A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 2
An Muxue appeared to have fainted from an episode. The An household instantly dissolved into chaos.
Lin Yue could only wait in the living room, watching as they hurriedly ushered a private doctor in a white coat into the bedroom. After a while, the doctor emerged to speak with An Muxue’s mother.
Unable to simply remain a bystander, Lin Yue drew closer.
Ming Yulan listened to the doctor with a deeply furrowed brow. Seeing Lin Yue, she immediately beckoned her over. “Child, come here. We need to talk.”
Lin Yue nodded and followed her into the adjacent study.
What Ming Yulan told her aligned with the plot of the novel: An Muxue suffered from a rare gland disorder that almost exclusively affected high-level AOs (Alphas and Omegas). These elite individuals could secrete pheromones several times stronger than average, yet usually possessed exceptional control over them.
However, if their pheromones remained congested within the body without release, the glands would eventually become disordered, refusing to respond and causing the owner to lose control over them entirely. The only solution was guidance from a highly compatible partner’s pheromones.
The doctor had informed Ming Yulan that they needed someone with a compatibility rate of at least 95%—ideally 97% or 98%—to be safe. This was an incredibly high bar; most AO couples are perfectly happy for life with 80% compatibility.
Ming Yulan never expected to find a 100% match.
She laid out the requirements plainly: she hoped Lin Yue would stay by An Muxue’s side daily, releasing pheromones to soothe her until her glands recovered enough to function on their own again. Of course, she was strictly forbidden from marking her.
Unlike the original plot, An Muxue’s episode had struck tonight. Ming Yulan was clearly anxious, hoping Lin Yue would try the “guidance” immediately.
Lin Yue knew this was her destiny, but she still clung to a shred of hope, wanting to resist. “Madam… Miss An doesn’t seem to like me very much.”
Earlier, before An Muxue’s pheromones had fully dissipated, Lin Yue had sensed the emotion in the lingering scent… it was intense loathing. Even if she hadn’t released her pheromones intentionally back then, the result was the same. In the book, An Muxue detested her.
“Perhaps she could find someone better…”
But Ming Yulan slammed her hand on the desk in desperation. “Don’t worry, she isn’t targeting you—she doesn’t like any Alpha!”
Lin Yue: “…”
“Madam, but…”
Lin Yue wanted to say more, but her face flushed before she could speak. The An family had paid off her loans and cleared the high interest; they were her benefactors and creditors. Making excuses to avoid helping felt impossible from her current position.
Seeing Lin Yue’s hesitation, Ming Yulan misunderstood the cause. To AOs, pheromone blending is more intimate than kissing a stranger. It was normal for a young Alpha to find it hard to accept.
After all, An Muxue couldn’t accept it either. But what choice was there?
Ming Yulan sighed. “If you won’t help her, she’ll have to go to the hospital to have the doctor insert a needle into her gland to manually extract the pheromones. That child has been stubborn and proud since she was little. Her face goes white with pain, yet she won’t say a word. Every time they extract it, it takes at least a month for her neck to move freely again, yet she still insists on filming without missing a day.”
“She even wants surgery to remove the gland entirely. How could that be good for her health? You might think I’m being overbearing and dictatorial, but she’s so young. I can’t let her live the rest of her life in pain.”
Ming Yulan’s eyes reddened as she spoke. Lin Yue could feel the mother’s desperate love, and the words of refusal died in her throat.
“Mom?” An Qi had likely overheard and realized her sister’s condition was serious. Her face was pale.
“Get over here,” Ming Yulan said, pulling her aside to scold her and make her apologize to Lin Yue. “She’s here to treat your sister.”
Lin Yue kept her head down, thinking about the needle in the gland. That really does sound painful…
It seemed she really had no choice but to cure her quickly so she could leave.
The study door swung open. An Qi stared at Lin Yue in disbelief. “You… you still want to refuse?”
Lin Yue looked at her blankly.
An Qi scrutinized Lin Yue’s face. Seeing that she truly seemed reluctant, her eyes widened further. Is there actually an Alpha in this world who doesn’t fantasize about my sister? Especially one so ordinary, dressed so poorly, with low-grade pheromones…
When An Qi didn’t speak for a long time, Lin Yue lowered her gaze. “You don’t have to apologize if you don’t want to…”
“Ah. No, I—I was wrong. I apologize,” An Qi stammered. “It’s just that since news of my sister’s illness got out, too many Alphas have harassed her. I thought…”
This was also mentioned in the book. Lin Yue nodded, showing she believed her and wasn’t angry.
An Qi looked at Lin Yue and dazed for a moment. This person seems a bit slow. But, looking closely, she’s actually quite… pretty.
She wasn’t wearing a drop of makeup and her hair was tied in a simple low ponytail. Her clothes were… hideously out of style. But her face was nice—it just didn’t look like an Alpha’s. She looked more like a Beta.
An Qi scratched her cheek, suddenly feeling like she had been too unreasonable. Like she was bullying someone. “I’m sorry. I’ve apologized, so… stay and help. Okay?”
Since An Muxue was still unconscious, they coordinated with the doctor and prepared to begin the guidance immediately.
Walking into a bedroom larger than her entire house, Lin Yue finally saw An Muxue in person. It was an indescribable beauty, an ethereal presence. Even with her eyes closed in fitful sleep, An Muxue was more stunning than any video or photograph could capture. Simply lying there with her dark hair splayed out, she made the room look like a scene from a high-budget film.
Lin Yue worried she might feel an uncontrollable, heart-racing “love at first sight.” But after checking her feelings, she felt okay. She breathed a sigh of relief.
Soon, only Lin Yue, Dr. Wu, and two temporary Beta nurses remained in the room. No one said it, but Lin Yue knew the nurses were there to stop her if she lost control and tried to mark An Muxue.
Once everything was ready, Dr. Wu gently peeled back the gauze on the back of An Muxue’s neck. Even from a distance, Lin Yue could see the gland area was swollen, a bruised red and blue. It looked agonizing.
Dr. Wu directed Lin Yue to sit in a chair and relax. “If it becomes too much, please tell me.”
Lin Yue nodded. “Then, please begin. Just release your pheromones normally.”
Lin Yue exhaled softly and closed her eyes. As the scent of sandalwood emerged, the floral fragrance surged out once more. Within a few breaths, Lin Yue felt as if she were bathing in a sea of flowers.
But these weren’t colorful wildflowers on a mountainside; they were like proud plum blossoms on a snowy peak. Petals drifted down like snow, settling on her.
Lin Yue lowered her head and gripped the armrests of the chair. She felt the floral vines wrap around her again, nuzzling her affectionately, desperate to merge with her pheromones.
Dr. Wu was stunned. The floral scent in the room was so thick that even she, a Beta, could smell it. She could even sense the “exclusion” in the scent. It was silently driving out everyone except Lin Yue. Like an animal claiming territory, the language of pheromones was blunt:
It likes Lin Yue.
Lin Yue belongs to it.
Was the effect really this strong?
It took the doctor a moment to react. She hurriedly turned on the AC’s purification function and looked at Lin Yue with concern. Could this ordinary Alpha maintain control under the impact of such high-concentration, perfectly compatible Omega pheromones? Could she put the treatment first?
“Doctor…”
Lin Yue slowly raised her head. Her face was flushed, her eyes slightly out of focus. The doctor tensed, preparing to pin her to the chair.
“Can I… release a bit more?”
The pheromones were clinging to her. The floral scent was so thick it felt physical, sticking to her eyelashes and soaking her clothes. If she didn’t release more to neutralize it, she felt like she wouldn’t be able to breathe.
The doctor’s eyes widened. She’s actually controlling herself perfectly.
“Of—of course you can.”
The doctor didn’t know that for Lin Yue, this was a life-or-death resistance. She had to hold on, even if she had to grit her teeth.
The concentration of pheromones in the room continued to rise. Sandalwood and floral scents hooked into each other, wave after wave. Neither would stop. Because Lin Yue was a low-grade Alpha, her output eventually plateaued, but An Muxue’s side seemed bottomless.
Dr. Wu was starting to feel dizzy. Yet Lin Yue remained quiet in her chair, doing nothing but flushing red. The doctor was amazed. This Alpha is too well-behaved.
Conversely, the neglected An Muxue grew increasingly restless in her sleep. “Mnh…”
Her brow was tight, sweat beaded at her temples. Her breathing hitched as her legs curled up under the covers. In every previous episode, An Muxue had felt as though she were lying in thorns, her flesh pierced through.
But this time, a fresh breeze had blown in. The pain was slowly dissolving. The breeze brought sunlight and the scent of wood. It felt like a leisurely walk in the forest from her childhood, but more dreamlike and sweet.
How could there be such a wonderful smell in the world?
It was so pleasant that every pore in her body relaxed. She felt as though she had fallen into the clouds, floating in the sky. But it was so little. She wanted more.
Not enough. Not nearly enough.
A little more…
“Mnh…” She reached out, gripping the bedsheets tightly.
Why won’t you come over? Come closer, press against me. Give me more…
No matter how she called or pleaded, that wonderful scent remained unresponsive. it only teased her from a distance. The fragrance had become a different kind of torture.
Too much…
She would go there herself. She would snatch that scent, possess it, and take a bite!
An Muxue suddenly rolled off the bed. She opened her eyes, and the world slowly came into focus. Her mind cleared. Only then did she realize the source of the scent was a person.
An Alpha who was currently in her room.
