A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 3
It was that loathsome scent of sandalwood.
Yet her pheromones completely disobeyed her. They were being lured over uncontrollably by that person, desperate to meld with the other’s scent.
No.
Come back.
Who is the master of this body?
But no matter how she rebuked them, the long-suppressed pheromones continued to surge toward that person. The wondrous sensation of her scent intertwining with another’s washed over her in waves.
She didn’t want this! It was disgusting!
An Muxue’s face flushed crimson with shame, and she had never felt so furious. Her eyes reddened with rage as she struggled to open her mouth.
“Get… out.”
“Miss An?” The doctor turned around in surprise.
But An Muxue kept her gaze fixed on the Alpha sitting in the chair with her back to her.
“Get out!”
The person in the chair seemed to let out a breath. Before the doctor could even speak, she stood up and walked out the door with unsteady steps. An Muxue only caught a glimpse of a ponytail from behind.
The doctor and the nurses quickly excused themselves and closed the door.
The sandalwood fragrance faded immediately, but it hadn’t vanished entirely. An Muxue suddenly realized she was still breathing deeply, as if trying to catch every lingering trace. She truly wanted to slap herself.
She didn’t want it. That wasn’t her…
The aftereffects of the episode left her weak. She collapsed on the floor, taking a long time before she could pull the covers over herself. She wanted to shower and wash away this sticky sandalwood scent, but the moment she moved her legs…
“!” Her face turned even redder, her earlobes practically dripping blood.
That damnable… Alpha.
Lin Yue was exhausted by the time she came out. her hands were shaking slightly, and her brain felt numb. she only vaguely knew that a group of people were surrounding her and talking.
Ming Yulan nearly moved to tears when the doctor said the guidance was a success. She asked Lin Yue how she felt. Lin Yue looked up blearily and eventually nodded, though she was actually on the verge of passing out.
An Qi saw Lin Yue’s face was as red as a tomato, looking dazed like she was drunk, and couldn’t help but chuckle. What’s with this girl? This nerd is actually kind of cute.
Realizing she had been neglectful, Ming Yulan immediately gave Lin Yue a guest room to rest in. Lin Yue was led there obediently. Heavens, she had never seen a bed so soft, so comfortable, and so huge…
As she lay down, the charming scent of flowers still clung to her clothes and hair. Lin Yue drifted off to sleep without even realizing it.
In her dreams, she vaguely heard people talking outside, but soon fell back into a deep slumber.
When she woke up the next day, Lin Yue realized she had actually slept at the An estate all night. She hurried downstairs to find a lavish breakfast spread.
Ming Yulan beckoned her. “You didn’t eat last night. You must be hungry. Come, sit.”
To save money, Lin Yue often skipped meals. She had never seen such a feast. Various pastries and dishes were laid out like a high-end dim sum spread. Her eyes lit up, and she couldn’t help but feel a spark of anticipation. She nodded shyly. “Um, thank you…”
The more Ming Yulan looked at Lin Yue, the more suitable she seemed. It wasn’t easy to find an Alpha with such a good temperament.
Unfortunately, An Muxue had explicitly rejected Lin Yue’s help the night before. She refused to even try again, her attitude even more determined than before. She wouldn’t even agree to a meeting and had left early that morning.
As a top-tier celebrity, An Muxue was always on the move. She had only been home because she had work nearby. She insisted she had work at dawn and refused to see anyone.
Ming Yulan couldn’t do anything about her daughter, but she didn’t give up. Instead, she discussed a plan with Lin Yue.
“From now on, I’ll send a car to your school in the evening. You’ll come over for an hour or two and fill her room with your pheromones. When she comes back to sleep, she’ll absorb them gradually.”
“The treatment might be less effective this way, so I’ll have to ask you to come more frequently.”
Lin Yue listened blankly and nodded in agreement. This way, she wouldn’t have to face An Muxue directly. That was good, but would the treatment be too slow?
According to the plot, the Protagonist Alpha would appear in a year… and in the original text, the treatment took at least a year and a half. It was during those extra six months that she would annoy the lead, Shu Yan, by interfering with their dates and harassing An Muxue.
No, I have to find a way to give An Muxue even more pheromones…
As she was thinking, she took a bite of an exceptionally delicious soup dumpling, her eyes widening slightly.
“So good,” she whispered with a flush.
“Oh, then eat more.” Ming Yulan felt her maternal instincts flare up looking at this “poor child” who had lost her parents in an accident.
“Okay.” Lin Yue couldn’t help but smile happily, her eyes curving into crescents. An Qi, who happened to glance over, was momentarily stunned.
She’s so… so easy to please.
For the next few days, Lin Yue attended classes during the day and rushed to the An villa at night to “saturate” the room with pheromones before leaving before An Muxue returned. Because of the distance from school, she usually stayed the night in the guest room across from An Muxue’s bedroom.
Ming Yulan had arranged this deliberately, hoping the two girls would bridge the gap. It didn’t work. Though Lin Yue had An Muxue’s contact info, and An Muxue had presumably been forced to accept her friend request, An Muxue’s avatar sat silently at the bottom of Lin Yue’s contact list. They hadn’t exchanged a single message.
The only thing connecting them was the floral scent.
In the middle of the night, Lin Yue would secretly set an alarm and crawl out of bed. She would carefully open her door and sit in the hallway, guarding the entrance to An Muxue’s room. The pheromones she laid out earlier would be absorbed quickly, so she sat by the door and continued to release more.
Because Lin Yue was so careful, she hadn’t run into An Muxue yet. The only downside was the lack of sleep. Sometimes, she would fall asleep sitting up, only to be “woken” by the floral scent squeezing out from under the door, as if pouting and demanding more pheromones. She would continue to release them in a half-dreaming state.
One morning, Lin Yue was so groroggy and rushed for class that she forgot she was still cloaked in a lingering floral scent. Walking through campus, several students turned their heads.
They marveled at her “Omega’s” strong possessiveness. To have rubbed so much scent onto her… what else could it be but marking territory? Fortunately, most days, Lin Yue remembered to shower before returning to school.
“Lin Yue, where have you been going every night lately?”
As she entered the classroom, someone ran over and grabbed her arm. It was Wen Ya, a friend from high school. As a Beta, she couldn’t smell pheromones, and knowing Lin Yue’s personality, she never really thought of her as an Alpha. She mostly worried about Lin Yue being bullied.
Lin Yue said, “I got a part-time job.”
Wen Ya looked sympathetic. “All night?”
“Mhm…”
“Heavens, how tiring is that? What kind of job requires those hours?”
Lin Yue’s ears turned red. She was a bad liar, so she looked down and changed the subject. “What were you all just talking about?”
“You know that new movie Welcoming Spring? There’s a premiere nearby and they’re looking for audience members!” Wen Ya was excited. “Lin Yue, you should sign up too!”
An Muxue was troubled. She hated that her mother filled her room with sandalwood scent every night. But no matter what she said, it didn’t matter. She could stay at her other apartments, but that would just lead to more lectures from her mother.
Fine. She only had promotional work for her previous movie for a few more days, then she would join a new film crew. Then she could escape the sandalwood scent without an argument.
And, though she hated to admit it… lately, aside from some embarrassing dreams at night, she felt fantastic. The weight that usually pressed down on her had vanished. Her glands didn’t hurt as much. She could breathe freely without being blindsided by sudden pain.
When she stepped out of her car at the promotional venue, a faint smile played on her lips. She looked stunning—her black hair shining like silk, her figure emphasized by a custom dress. Her mere presence left everyone breathless.
The famous “Ice Queen” was actually smiling? The staff member greeting her flushed and began to stutter.
But as she entered the crowded venue, the chaotic mixture of scents made her brow furrow again. An investor was intentionally approaching her, talking incessantly while his gaze lingered on her chest. This greasy, middle-aged Alpha had tried to ask her out several times before. He was clearly releasing his pheromones on purpose, trying to see if they would affect her now that she was “sick.”
An Muxue felt nothing but disgust. “Excuse me, Mr. Jin, if you aren’t feeling well, you should go home and rest.”
“Why do you say that? I’m fine.”
“Really? If it’s not a medical issue, I’d assume only someone with no manners or a teenager would be unable to control their pheromones.”
The man gave an awkward laugh. “Miss An doesn’t hold back, does she?”
“I have to get my makeup done.” She turned and left.
Hmph. The man’s greedy gaze followed her. What’s there to be so arrogant about? No matter your status, you’re still an Omega. You’ll need an Alpha eventually. No matter how much of a goddess you are out here, once you’re marked, you’ll be on your knees at home.
The “conquering” desire of Alphas was real. Who wouldn’t want to take down an Ice Queen like her?
Back in her private dressing room, An Muxue felt dizzy and nauseous. Her headache was returning, worse than before.
“President An, are you okay?” her assistant, Lu Qian, asked worriedly.
“I’m fine.” She had to hold on. She couldn’t let the reporters see anything wrong.
Strangely, she realized that compared to this venue, the sandalwood scent was actually the “least stinky” smell… In fact, her mind was suddenly filled with it.
Her mother’s words echoed: If you’re uncomfortable, you can call Lin Yue anytime.
An Muxue looked at her phone. No, what am I thinking? I can’t get used to relying on her.
But… she thought she smelled a hint of it? Was it an illusion?
The venue was crowded and hot under the stage lights. Lin Yue was sweating.
“I think I just saw An Muxue!” a girl cried out, grabbing Wen Ya. Wen Ya let out a silent scream of excitement. “Aaah, really?!”
“Quick, let’s get closer to the front!”
“Come on, Yue!”
Lin Yue shook her head frantically. “I… I’m not going.” She hadn’t realized this was An Muxue’s movie event.
“Why not? It’s such a rare chance!”
Lin Yue couldn’t lie, so she just kept shaking her head, her face red. “I’m really not going.” Every time she heard that name, she could almost smell the flowers… and the loathing. “You guys go, I’ll wait outside.”
As Lin Yue turned to leave, her phone vibrated. She had to check it twice to make sure she wasn’t seeing things.
[An Muxue: Are you nearby?]
It was a sudden, contextless message. It took Lin Yue a few seconds to process.
[Lin Yue: Yes.]
The other side showed “typing” for a long time, as if writing and deleting. Finally, a new message appeared.
[An Muxue: Come to the backstage. I’ll have my assistant pick you up.]
After a pause, she added an awkward explanation:
[An Muxue: I’m not feeling well.]
