A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 8
“Yue, why are you still wearing scent blockers?”
Lin Yue stiffened. She had purposefully worn a high-collared shirt, but it clearly wasn’t enough to hide everything.
Wen Ya was full of curiosity, even standing on her tiptoes to peek at Lin Yue’s neck. “It feels just like high school.”
“Are you feeling unwell?”
Lin Yue shifted slightly to avoid the gaze. Not knowing what to say, she simply nodded. “Mhm…”
“Huh? Then why didn’t you ask for leave? Isn’t it supposed to be really uncomfortable?”
Lin Yue paused, realizing Wen Ya had misunderstood. “I… no. It’s not my rut.”
The boy standing next to Wen Ya had been trying to ask her out, but the moment Wen Ya spotted Lin Yue from a distance, she had ditched him and run over. Now she was circling Lin Yue, her eyes practically sparkling—clearly much more enthusiastic toward Lin Yue than him.
Betas like him were often suppressed or outshone by Alphas, and their girlfriends were frequently “stolen” by them. Seeing the girl he wanted to date ignore him, he had an almost physical reaction.
“Can’t you control your pheromones normally?” He looked at Lin Yue with a frown. “That’s pretty weak… though you really don’t look much like an Alpha anyway.”
Lin Yue ignored him. She looked down at her phone and said to Wen Ya, “I have to go now.”
The driver sent to pick her up for her meeting with An Muxue had arrived; she couldn’t be late.
“Ah?”
Lin Yue left just like that. Wen Ya glared at the boy. “What’s wrong with you? Yue doesn’t like people talking like that.”
The boy felt guilty but muttered, “I’m just stating facts…”
“And how is that any of your business?” Wen Ya found him truly annoying. She decided then and there to cut ties with him.
Lately, Lin Yue was always busy with her new job and often away at night. Wen Ya had finally managed to run into her, only for this guy to ruin it after just a few sentences. She felt it was a real pity.
Wen Ya walked out of the school gates, chasing after the direction Lin Yue had gone, hoping to ask her to dinner. Instead, she saw Lin Yue walk to a quiet side street and get into a car that looked incredibly expensive.
“Huh?” Wen Ya’s eyes went wide. Lin Yue’s family was in financial trouble. Whose car was she getting into? Had she seen it wrong?
An Muxue was currently filming a period drama, which required shooting at a replica historical film base. During non-filming hours, the base accepted tourists, but at the moment, no one could enter without a special permit.
Lin Yue waited for a while until Assistant Lu ran over and hung a small pass around her neck to lead her inside.
The area was crowded. As Lin Yue walked past, she accidentally overheard some gossip.
“I heard An Muxue lost her temper today.” “It was the male lead. He used the filming as an excuse to harass her.” “Harass? Aren’t they playing a couple?” “Playing a couple doesn’t mean you have to actually release pheromones.” “Didn’t you see An Muxue’s face the moment the director yelled ‘cut’? She almost slapped him.” “And now he’s claiming he just couldn’t help himself because of her face. So shameless.”
Lin Yue’s pace faltered. They had reached the private rest area. Standing in front of An Muxue’s dressing room was indeed a man.
He was dressed as a heroic swordsman, tall and handsome. Any male star working with An Muxue was naturally top-tier. Even though Lin Yue didn’t watch many dramas, his face looked familiar. She cast her gaze downward.
The male lead, Sun Hao, saw Assistant Lu and walked over. “Please, tell her again—I didn’t mean it. Just give me a chance to apologize to Miss An properly.”
He looked sincere. Assistant Lu couldn’t be rude, but she remained surprisingly firm. “I’m sorry, President An is resting.”
She said a few words and immediately ushered Lin Yue inside, closing the door.
“Ah, wait?” Sun Hao was confused. If she’s resting, then who was that girl? Why is An Muxue seeing her during her break?
Inside the room, An Muxue was slumped over the table, her mood clearly sour. Despite only being a week without treatment, her body was aching again. Moreover, Sun Hao was obsessed with creating a “couple” narrative for publicity and wouldn’t leave her alone, even going so far as to pretend he was pursuing her.
She really did hate Alphas. Knowing Lin Yue was coming soon only made her mood worse.
“President An, Lin Yue is here.”
But when the door opened and she saw Lin Yue follow the assistant in—standing blankly by the door, not even knowing how to greet her or daring to intrude—An Muxue’s irritability and revulsion suddenly vanished for some reason.
Her gaze drifted toward Lin Yue. She looked at the bridge of her pale nose, the stray hairs at her temples, and her ordinary hoodie and backpack. The moment Lin Yue entered, the air in the room seemed to become cleaner and clearer.
“Mhm. Come over here.”
An Muxue spoke, and Lin Yue finally walked toward her.
“I’ll head out then,” Assistant Lu said, closing the door behind her.
An Muxue was still in her costume—a white, ethereal gown with a slight neckline and a sash that defined her slender waist. Layers of white gauze made her look like a celestial being rather than a mortal.
An Muxue turned her gaze away, awkwardly trying to adjust her dress before giving up. “…Begin.”
She tilted her chin up and closed her eyes in a gesture of resignation.
It was a posture waiting for a kiss.
Lin Yue froze. She tried to lean in, then stopped, her eyes filled with confusion. An Muxue waited for a long time, but Lin Yue never kissed her. She opened her eyes, equally confused. “What’s wrong?”
Lin Yue: “My gland is already healed.”
An Muxue: “Huh?”
“Do we… still have to kiss?”
Lin Yue was very close to her now, looking at her intently as she asked. An Muxue’s face flushed. She had actually forgotten the gland would heal!
“Uh, no… no need.” She turned her face away, her earlobes pink. “Then just sit on the sofa.”
“Okay.” Lin Yue walked away obediently.
It was just a small episode, but the heat in An Muxue’s face wouldn’t subside. That’s right, the doctor said kissing was just a temporary fix… why did I just offer it up like that?
Lin Yue didn’t seem to notice. She had already started releasing pheromones while digging through her backpack. “I also brought you scent blockers.”
Just as An Muxue was beginning to calm down, she saw the peach-patterned stickers, and her face turned even redder. How could there be such childish scent blockers in this world!
She pulled a stern face. “I’m not using those.”
“That won’t do. There won’t be enough pheromones.” Lin Yue’s expression was uncharacteristically serious. Her goal was to cure An Muxue quickly, which meant stuffing her with as much pheromone as possible. If they only met once a week to release it into the air, the amount was definitely insufficient.
Lin Yue looked down, deep in thought. “Otherwise, I’ll stay the night.” If she stayed all night, maybe it would be just enough…
An Muxue jumped. “No!”
Lin Yue: “Then you have to use these stickers.”
“I told you, I’m not using them.”
Lin Yue’s expression turned troubled again. “Then I can’t leave.”
An Muxue was both embarrassed and annoyed. “You…”
“What happened last time to Miss An was too dangerous. It absolutely cannot happen again,” Lin Yue said firmly, looking genuinely worried.
The air was now thick with sandalwood, constantly soothing An Muxue’s nerves. Looking at Lin Yue, she felt an increasing sense of closeness. Maybe Lin Yue is just being professional.
An Muxue suddenly decided to give in. “Fine, I’ll use them.” Anyway, Lin Yue wouldn’t know if she actually used them or not…
Lin Yue looked delighted and immediately handed her a peach sticker. “Then try one now?”
An Muxue froze. “What?”
“Try it to see if you can absorb it.”
An Muxue stared into Lin Yue’s eyes for several seconds. Her lips parted and closed, but she couldn’t say a word. Is she asking me to put on her used scent blocker right in front of her? And it’s a peach?
Her beautiful eyes were wide. She had never experienced so many messy, shameful emotions at once. But perhaps the scent in the air was too soothing and Lin Yue’s gaze too honest; An Muxue actually took the pink sticker.
The used blocker felt slightly heavy and soft, as if it had absorbed liquid. Just touching it made An Muxue’s palm feel hot.
“Don’t… don’t look.”
“…Oh.” Though confused, Lin Yue obediently turned her head away.
An Muxue turned her back as well. She pulled her costume down slightly, exposing her pale, delicate neck. Biting her lip, she gathered her courage and pressed the sticker onto her gland.
“Mnh.” Her eyelashes fluttered instantly.
She could indeed absorb pheromones this way. And it was directly into the gland…
An Muxue’s eyes lost focus. Her body felt weak, and she slid down slightly in her seat, feeling as though she were drunk. Luckily, she was sitting.
After a moment, Lin Yue asked, “How is it?”
Startled, An Muxue raised a hand to cover her expression. “Mhm…”
The celestial fairy in her white robes now had ears of translucent red. She hurriedly peeled the sticker off. “It works.”
Once An Muxue promised to use them every day, Lin Yue felt relieved. She stayed for three hours, saturating the room with pheromones before leaving for the night.
After she left, An Muxue sat in her chair for a long time, hands covering her face. She didn’t want to admit it, but… just a bit of pheromone and her legs were weak. This “loathsome” Omega constitution.
Next time, I have to change my clothes first…
She locked the dressing room door, slowly unfastened the silk ribbons of her costume, and changed back into her own clothes. But even after she returned to her hotel and showered, that strange, awakened feeling persisted. She couldn’t relax.
Biting her lip, she finally made a decision. Perhaps it had just been too long. She had always avoided these things. Maybe that was why she was so clumsy; she tried several times, but she just couldn’t—
An Muxue let out a frustrated sigh and stepped out in her bathrobe, water dripping from her hair. She reached for some cold water to drink, but her hand paused.
She saw the scent blockers Lin Yue had left for her on the table.
What an ugly pattern.
She bit her lip, critiquing them in her mind, yet her throat felt strangely parched. She stared at them for a long time before looking away, pretending she hadn’t seen them while she drank her water.
But once she was lying in bed, she suddenly sat up. With pale, slender fingers, she reached out and picked up a used blocker from the table.
Her breath became hot. After applying it, she pulled the blanket over her head, curling into a ball in a self-deluding manner.
“Mnh…” Her fingers gripped a corner of the blanket.
In the tiny, dark space beneath the covers, the sandalwood scent surrounded her gland. It dispelled all other smells, opening every muscle and pore. Her cheeks quickly flushed deep red. She felt tingly all over, as if she were floating in the clouds.
Doing this in the dark, hiding under the blanket…
She couldn’t. Her eyes grew hazy, her toes curled, and she pressed her legs tightly together.
How can I do something so humiliating… at least… I should take the sticker off.
Otherwise, it’s like I’m thinking of her…
Her eyelashes trembled. Her shoulder slipped out of her open bathrobe as her breathing grew rapid and hot. Under the blanket, the floral scent of her own pheromones merged entirely with the sandalwood.
“Mnh…”
Her long legs kicked out beneath the sheets, wrinkling the fabric. In the end, she couldn’t resist the temptation.
