A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 9
It wasn’t until the waves finally receded that An Muxue realized what she had done.
She sat up abruptly from under the covers, her face flushed crimson. What was wrong with her? It was as if she had been possessed, lured into such a state by mere pheromones.
And… she had never experienced this before. When she reached down to check, the sheets were damp. Her face burned even hotter with unbearable shame.
It was so, so loathsome. It was all that Lin Yue’s fault. She had clearly said she didn’t want to use them, yet Lin Yue insisted she try, leading to this.
She hurriedly peeled off the scent blocker and headed for the bathroom.
The next day, Lin Yue’s phone vibrated.
Looking down, she saw a message from An Muxue telling her not to bring any more scent blockers in the future.
Huh? Why so sudden?
“Lin Yue!”
Lin Yue looked up to see her friend, Wen Ya.
“Let’s go grab lunch together.” Wen Ya walked over happily and linked her arm through Lin Yue’s.
Lin Yue gently pulled away and said in a low voice, “You don’t have to treat me.”
“Oh, it’s fine! You can’t just eat vegetables all the time. Besides, I can’t finish it all anyway. Plus, I need to borrow your notes.”
Although the An family had promised to clear Lin Yue’s debts if she cured An Muxue, her current living expenses and tuition still depended on her part-time jobs and scholarships. Consequently, she was always very frugal. Wen Ya, unable to stand it, would often eat with her to make sure she got some protein.
“By the way,” Wen Ya suddenly asked, “where did you go last Saturday?”
Lin Yue paused. “I… went to work.”
“But I saw you get into a car that looked really expensive.” Even if Wen Ya didn’t know cars, she could sense the luxury. She was genuinely curious: what kind of part-time job sends such a nice car to pick someone up?
Even though Lin Yue was an Alpha, she was still very pretty—Wen Ya worried she might be getting scammed!
Lin Yue pursed her lips, her face slowly turning red. She was never good at lying. “That car was mostly… to pick up someone else. It just happened to pick me up that day…”
Wen Ya looked worried. “Where exactly are you working?”
“I…” Lin Yue couldn’t exactly say the An family. “I’m going to… the Film City.”
“Oh! Working on a film set? Is it a legit production? Do you get to see stars?”
Seeing her friend’s concern, Lin Yue confessed: “I… I get to see An Muxue.”
Wen Ya’s eyes went wide. Who? At first, she was in disbelief, then she let out an almost silent scream.
“What! An Muxue?!”
That must be a massive production. In her excitement, she forgot to ask what Lin Yue’s actual job was. “Heavens! Then can you help me get an autograph?”
The moment she said it, she felt it might be asking too much. Lin Yue was likely just a stagehand; seeing An Muxue from a distance was probably lucky enough. “Ah, actually, forget it—”
“An autograph?” Lin Yue thought for a moment. “It should be possible.”
The following weekend.
Lu Qian knocked on the door: “Sister An, Lin Yue is here. I’ll go pick her up.”
An Muxue hesitated. Even though she knew Lin Yue was coming, she bit her lip, looking conflicted—like she didn’t want to meet her but had no reason to refuse.
“Mhm…”
For some reason, Lu Qian felt that An Muxue seemed a bit nervous. But she dismissed the thought; An Muxue was used to accepting awards on stage, why would she be nervous about this?
Lin Yue followed Lu Qian inside once more. Upon seeing An Muxue, she knew immediately that she hadn’t been using the scent blockers.
An Muxue had changed back into her casual clothes and even removed her makeup, but her exquisite profile remained ethereally beautiful. However, her face was pale, and her shoulders were stiff. Lin Yue could tell from the faint pheromones in the air: An Muxue was in pain.
So why won’t she use the medicine? Lin Yue didn’t understand.
Seeing Lin Yue approach, An Muxue felt she was coming too close and instinctively backed away. “You can just sit over there…”
Lin Yue held the photos Wen Ya had given her. She pulled them out of her bag, hesitated, then set them down. “Could you… help me sign these?”
An Muxue blinked. Was Lin Yue a fan? She hadn’t shown it before… No, wait, she did show up at the movie premiere!
She looked at Lin Yue’s expression, but found it as blank and dazed as ever. An Muxue pursed her lips. The type of fan who hides it deep, apparently.
She signed things all the time, but this felt awkward. “I can…”
As she picked up the pen, she rubbed her fingers. Lin Yue noticed the stiffness in her joints. She had heard that when An Muxue’s condition flared up, it felt like being pricked by needles; her whole body would ache, and her limbs would feel “rusty” and hard to move.
She’s definitely starved for pheromones. How could this go on?
Since An Muxue wouldn’t cooperate with the blockers, Lin Yue figured she had to give her as much as possible while they were together. “Let’s just kiss.”
“What?” An Muxue was so startled that the pen skidded across the photo.
“Kissing, or… I stay the night?” Lin Yue looked down in thought, serious as if she were planning a study schedule. “If you don’t have enough pheromones, your illness won’t get better.”
An Muxue’s face heated up, and she immediately frowned. “You don’t need to worry about that. Just do as I say. I’ll have my mother pay you as usual; there’s no need to be… so proactive.”
Standing outside her door at night or bringing scent blockers—none of it was necessary. An Muxue didn’t know Lin Yue was paying off a debt; she thought her mother was paying her a monthly salary.
But Lin Yue knew that if she didn’t cure her, the An family likely wouldn’t let her leave—to say nothing of the original plot. “But why refuse treatment? Aren’t you uncomfortable?”
Lin Yue crouched down, looking up at her with concern. Suddenly meeting Lin Yue’s eyes at close range, An Muxue’s face grew hotter, and she felt inexplicably annoyed. What do Alphas know?
“It’s none of your—”
“Let’s have a quick kiss,” Lin Yue suggested.
To Lin Yue, this was just a synonym for “Let’s have a quick treatment.” But An Muxue’s face turned even redder, and her eyes widened. How could Lin Yue say such a thing… while looking at her with those puppy-like eyes?
Lin Yue, purely anxious about the failed treatment: “Is it really not okay?”
She… she’s acting spoiled with me? “You…” An Muxue suddenly looked at the signature on the desk, trying to change the subject. “I messed up the autograph.”
Lin Yue glanced at it. “It’s fine, I’ll bring another one next time.”
An Muxue: “?” Does she have a lot of my photos at home?
Unfortunately, Lin Yue wasn’t distracted. She quickly added, “I really think we should kiss. You’ve already started hurting again, haven’t you?”
An Muxue gripped the pen, her earlobes scarlet. She pretended to be busy fixing the signature, ignoring her. Lin Yue watched her for a moment, then tentatively leaned in for a kiss.
“!!” An Muxue’s eyes flew open. She wanted to refuse, but she already smelled the sandalwood. She could have dodged, but she was a second too slow, and in her daze, their lips met.
“Mnh…”
An Muxue’s eyelashes trembled. She reached out as if to push Lin Yue away, but the pen dropped from her hand. Soon, her senses were completely swept away by the sandalwood, and her mind turned to mush.
The Ice Queen’s pale complexion gradually flushed. Her body went soft, her jaw relaxed, her tongue met the other’s, and her eyes slowly closed. “Mnh…”
She was almost about to wrap her arms around Lin Yue’s neck.
Knock, knock, knock.
The door sounded. An Muxue snapped back to reality and hurriedly pushed Lin Yue away.
“?” Lin Yue nearly lost her balance.
“Teacher An.” The voice outside was the male lead, chuckling. “Can you really not give me a chance to apologize? Can we talk?”
An Muxue’s expression turned cold instantly. She didn’t even want to pretend she wasn’t there; she walked straight over and opened the door.
Sun Hao froze. He immediately detected another Alpha’s pheromones on An Muxue. Even more potent in the room was the floral scent—arrogant, flourishing, and aggressively entwined with the Alpha’s scent, silently proving An Muxue’s attitude toward this visitor.
Who was it? Who had managed to win An Muxue’s favor while he was being repeatedly rejected?
Sun Hao’s eyes turned red with envy. He looked inside… and saw only a slender, delicate female student.
Huh? The one from last time… so she’s the Alpha??
“Ha, so, Great Beauty An rejected me simply because my pheromones didn’t make the cut?” An Alpha’s competitive instinct made him want to test Lin Yue’s strength immediately.
He was coldly blocked by An Muxue before he could try. Usually, An Muxue was just indifferent and distant, like an immortal who didn’t belong in the world. But now, as she looked at him, her frown held a cold, sharp edge.
“Since Teacher Sun knows, why don’t you stop bringing your ‘smell of smoke’ out to choke people?”
“?? That’s not smoke, it’s the ‘scent of combustion’!” Sun Hao finally lost his devoted persona, his mouth twitching with rage. Insulting an Alpha’s unique pheromones was equivalent to shaming his very manhood.
“Please move.” An Muxue didn’t bother with him further. Instead, she suddenly grabbed Lin Yue’s hand, led her out of the dressing room, and took her straight to her car.
Lin Yue hugged her bag, somewhat dazed as she followed An Muxue to the hotel where the crew was staying.
The assistant looked back; Sun Hao’s car was right behind them. Since they were actors on the same set, they couldn’t stop him from staying at the same hotel. But the “disgusting” feeling of being stalked was unavoidable.
“Forget it. Come inside.” An Muxue suddenly grabbed Lin Yue’s wrist again.
