A Disguised Scum Alpha Marked Her Aloof Ex-Wife - Chapter 2
Bai Shuzhou’s gaze shifted toward the window at the same moment those six crimson eyes turned.
Against the light, the girl’s short blade pierced the insect’s shell with clinical precision. Without a hint of hesitation, she twisted and stirred the blade with all her might. In an instant, the metallic, earthy stench of Zerg blood wafted through the air.
With a swirl of her cloak, the girl shielded her. The gargantuan creature collapsed to the floor with a heavy thud, dead before it could even let out a shriek. One strike, one kill.
Their skin pressed together; Bai Shuzhou could feel a heartbeat thumping like a drum—only then did she notice the girl’s arms were trembling.
The moment Bai Shuzhou spoke, Zhu Yu snapped her head up. Like a rabbit peeking out from its burrow, she stole a glance at the grisly remains of the carcass.
The insect’s scarlet eyes remained wide in a permanent stare, but they had grown cloudy, like cheap glass marbles that might roll out of their sockets at any moment. They stared fixedly at Zhu Yu, defiant even in death.
Zhu Yu froze, a bizarre sense of discomfort welling up inside her. That thing had been wearing a strange “grin” moments ago, but now it looked like nothing more than an inorganic camera lens—as if something, somewhere, was observing them through those eyes.
But it was clearly dead. And in death, there should be nothing left.
After a few sharp breaths, Zhu Yu turned her head to look at the wounds on Bai Shuzhou’s legs. She spoke soothingly, “It’s okay now. I got the inhibitor. There’s an emergency medical kit on the first floor. Let’s go down first.”
This place was once an abandoned outpost that the original owner had converted into a secret base. Zhu Yu carried Bai Shuzhou to a bed in the observation room before running back to the second floor alone to lock the doors and windows, confirming the insect was truly dead.
She pressed her palms together in prayer, struggling to swallow down the nausea. The last time she had bowed this sincerely was to the God of Wealth back home.
“Don’t blame me. You attacked first. This was self-defense. Every debt has its debtor—you brought this on yourself.”
“Rest in peace.”
With a final stroke of her knife, the insect finally stopped ‘watching’ her. Its cloudy eyes glazed over completely. Zhu Yu let out a long sigh of relief.
…
By the time Zhu Yu hurried back clutching the medical kit, the woman was nowhere to be found on the narrow cot.
Startled, she immediately began searching, following the scent. She finally spotted the hem of a dress caught under a cabinet door in a far corner.
The woman had hidden in a rush; a few stray drops of blood stained the floor. Zhu Yu stopped. The crisp clack of her long boots hitting the floor ceased, sounding like the malicious mockery of a disaster drawing near. The hem of that dress was shaking.
—Found you.
Zhu Yu’s heart gave a violent jolt.
Oh no. Is this turning into a horror movie?
She couldn’t imagine how the proud Princess had managed to drag her broken body into such a cramped, dark cabinet. The thin wooden door did nothing to muffle her low, broken sobs.
She didn’t trust her.
In the heavy silence, Zhu Yu could feel the woman watching her, just as she could sense the woman’s terror. That weightless gaze pressed down, collapsing in the narrow corner until it felt heavier than a mountain.
Zhu Yu kept the ice cube in her mouth, struggling to articulate her words clearly: “Your Highness, I will not hurt you.”
She slowly pulled open the cabinet door. The light spilled unevenly over the woman’s damp hair. If tears could turn into pearls, the floor would have been covered by now.
Zhu Yu softened her tone. “Look, the inhibitor and the medical kit. It won’t hurt much longer.”
“Let me carry you out first, okay? It’s too dark in there to give you the injection properly.”
Zhu Yu leaned down and lifted the curled-up Bai Shuzhou into her arms.
Bai Shuzhou’s silver hair was soaked with sweat, clinging wetly to her collarbone. Her skin was incredibly pale, making the cinnabar mole on her wrist look exceptionally vivid. She lifted her eyes coldly; those pale blue orbs reflected the luster of gemstones—chilly and sharp.
Though the backdrop was just a crude cot and a surveillance screen, it felt as though they were in a lush garden. Deep red roses and emerald vines seemed to surround her, the warm yellow light caressing her profile with the texture of an oil painting.
Zhu Yu bit down on the ice, but her body temperature continued to climb. She wore a black mask over her nose and mouth, a desperate attempt to block out the Omega’s allure, but her heart only pounded harder.
She lowered her head, not daring to look at her.
“I’ll inject the inhibitor first, then treat your wounds.”
Bai Shuzhou was still scrutinizing Zhu Yu.
The girl’s sleeves were rolled up high, revealing lean, powerful forearms. She had discarded her coat and cloak, leaving only a form-fitting white shirt. Even the specialized fabric hadn’t fully shielded her from the close-range spray of Zerg venom; out of the corner of her eye, Bai Shuzhou could see that the girl’s joints were a bloody mess.
Zhu Yu’s aura seemed to have changed.
It was clearer than before, carrying a faint, minty coolness. Amidst the dizzying, thick fragrance of the room, it was strangely grounding. Bai Shuzhou’s breathing slowed down unconsciously.
As the distance closed, the silver needle slowly approached the gland.
The image of the girl leaping to her rescue flashed through her mind again. Descending like a whirlwind, the girl had clearly been terrified—closing her eyes at the last second—yet she had stubbornly wrapped her arms around her.
She had squeezed so hard Bai Shuzhou’s ribs ached. They were still throbbing now.
Zhu Yu is a master of lies.
This… must be another disguise.
What else could she possibly want?
Zhu Yu watched the needle with extreme care. The heat inside her was becoming unbearable. She used her left hand to grip her right wrist with all her strength to keep it from shaking.
However, the woman who had just calmed down suddenly began to struggle violently. With a forceful swing, she swiped at the air; the “inhibitor” spun through the air, nearly stabbing Zhu Yu’s own arm.
“You dare lie to me again! This isn’t an inhibitor…!” Bai Shuzhou’s eyes were rimmed with red as she shrank back.
She knew it. Zhu Yu had never harbored any good intentions. This was just her perverse sense of humor taken to the extreme. How could she have entertained even a moment of hope regarding such a person?
Huh? Zhu Yu blankly picked up the dust-covered “inhibitor.” This was part of the original owner’s private stash at the base; it indeed lacked any official safety certification label.
One corner of the label was slightly peeled back. Zhu Yu flicked it with her nail, revealing the drug’s true name: Veterinary Anesthetic.
She had actually given Bai Shuzhou hope with a fake inhibitor, only to throw it away? Just to toy with her?
Zhu Yu’s movements froze. She felt faint with rage. She had risked her life to retrieve this thing. If the original owner was dead, she must have died from being an absolute piece of work!
The ice was melting in her mouth. Bai Shuzhou’s skin was just as cold—like jade, like porcelain. In the sweltering air, thin beads of condensation formed on her skin, rolling down alongside her painful tears.
An Alpha and Omega in their respective cycles both need the comfort of a partner; otherwise, they risk mental instability.
At this moment, Bai Shuzhou was hyper-sensitive. She could feel the slide of every single bead of sweat. Clutching her skirt, she tilted her face up with a sense of shame, her voice raspy: “Give it to me…”
Zhu Yu looked around frantically and hurriedly handed over the only thing she had—the anesthetic.
Bai Shuzhou grit her teeth: “Give me… your pheromones.”
She lowered her eyes as if accepting her fate, using a commanding tone to mask her hatred. Though her body was forced to go limp and the veins in her neck throbbed, there wasn’t a trace of lust in those pale blue eyes. They were as cold as if Zhu Yu were nothing more than a tool to relieve her physical agony.
She couldn’t die here. She couldn’t lose control. She couldn’t… couldn’t!
Tears dampened her lashes, blurring the world. A sudden, icy sensation made Bai Shuzhou flinch. She opened her eyes and saw Zhu Yu taking the melting ice cube from her own mouth and pressing it against the burning side of her neck.
The humiliation of being toyed with surged. Bai Shuzhou hissed, “Zhu Yu, you…!”
Zhu Yu quickly pulled the ice away, pressing it into her own palm. “Does it feel bad? I’m sorry, I thought this might help a little.”
Vines grew wildly around them, swaying and coiling around the girl’s waist and arms.
Beep, beep, beep. A sharp alarm rang out.
The surveillance screen lit up with a series of images, blindingly bright in the dim room. Several aircraft were approaching.
Bai Shuzhou’s dull eyes flickered with hope. It must be the Guard searching for her! She tried to prop herself up, but Zhu Yu stood up, blocking her view of the screen.
“WE HAVE ARRIVED TO PROTECT YOUR HIGHNESS—”
Without the aid of an intercom, the newcomer shouted the proclamation with enough force to make it echo across the desolate wilderness.
A chaotic, dense array of Alpha pheromones flooded the area, surrounding the large, abandoned base.
Figures leapt from the aircraft. Their sharp gazes scanned the cameras, brimming with murderous intent.
Zhu Yu was only a D-grade Alpha, while every person outside had powerful pheromones. The leader—a “Grey Wolf” hybrid—walked to the door, fiddling with a handgun. She raised a contemptuous eyebrow.
“Zhu Yu, open up. Hand over the Princess. I know you’re both in there.”
Citizens of the Empire could undergo “beastification.” Ordinary people could only switch between human and beast forms or lacked control entirely. Those more powerful could transform at will, possessing both human agility and bestial strength.
The Grey Wolf clearly belonged to the latter. As a symbol of the strong, she casually kicked the front door. Boom! Even the walls shook.
Her words sounded dignified, but Zhu Yu was hit by a sudden sense of dread. These people weren’t wearing epaulets, and their formation as they surrounded the base didn’t look like regular military.
Zhu Yu hid Bai Shuzhou slightly behind her and draped her own coat over the woman.
“Hmm? What a fragrance… is this the Princess’s pheromones?”
“Whoa, is Her Highness in heat?”
The speaker’s tone shifted instantly—from forced, elegant respect to raspy greed.
“Heh, little Zhu Yu, your pheromones aren’t even as strong as the Princess’s…”
“How can a D-grade waste be worthy of Her Highness? I bet you can’t even manage a mark! Don’t push yourself.”
“Why don’t you let us help out?”
The crowd erupted in laughter.
They were dressed in fine clothes, radiating the arrogant confidence of those used to getting what they wanted. They were completely out of place in this desolate border region.
Zhu Yu finally recognized the person in the lead, and her scalp went numb. Certain nobles had always harbored rebellious hearts; they had no business being here.
In the original novel, they pretended to be on good terms with the scum Alpha, using it as a cover to commit numerous offenses against the Imperial Family. Later, that debt was naturally pinned on the scum Alpha.
While their mouths uttered honorifics, their hearts clearly viewed Bai Shuzhou as a prize to be hunted and toyed with.
The air outside the door grew thick and viscous as the high-tier Alphas released their pheromones indiscriminately—like peacocks fanning their tails—completely disregarding how this chaotic, aggressive scent would affect an Omega in heat.
Amidst the soul-consuming scent of roses, several dominant Alphas crowded toward the door. Their faces appeared slightly distorted through the wide-angle lens, their eyes filled with a greed and madness even more terrifying than the Zerg.
The leader sneered, “Zhu Yu, open the door. You want to keep the prize for yourself? That’s not very neighborly.”
“Didn’t you always tell us how the Princess ‘tasted’ and said you’d share her with us? What, are you getting stingy now?”
“It’s settled then. Name your price. We won’t make it hard on you,” she added in a threatening tone.
Zhu Yu: Who is ‘settled’ with you??!
She instinctively looked back. Hearing those words, the woman behind her visibly shuddered.
Without her noticing, Bai Shuzhou had gripped the anesthetic tightly, her pale blue eyes going completely dark. No wonder Zhu Yu had tried to trick her just now. After she fell unconscious, what would these people do to her…?
She was an Imperial Princess! She was her wife!
Zhu Yu grit her teeth. Her own pheromones were very faint, almost undetectable. Now, she let them out—a coolness like a night breeze—softly enveloping Bai Shuzhou to shield her from the greedy stench of the outside world.
“No one is allowed to bully Her Highness!”
“If you dare to cross the line, I will report this to the General and Her Majesty!” She invoked the names of the powerful, acting like a fox borrowing the tiger’s terror.
Silence fell outside for a moment. Then the Grey Wolf leader let out a cold, distorted laugh. “Ha! Choosing the hard way then? What are you pretending for?”
The stare made a chill run down Zhu Yu’s spine. She tightened her mask and made a snap judgment. “We’re leaving. There’s a ship in the basement. We’ll be okay.”
Calling it a “ship” was generous; it was just an old military aircraft the original owner had modified herself.
Zhu Yu’s voice was wavering. The truth was, she was afraid of heights and didn’t know how to fly—at best, she had a manual-shift driver’s license. The original owner’s memories were fragmented, but she couldn’t stop.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m taking you home. There are troops stationed not far to the south. We’ll find General Izellia. The medical team will definitely have inhibitors…”
“Once we re-establish contact, all our problems will be solved!”
Zhu Yu began to talk incessantly to suppress her own heat. She picked up her pace, sweat soaking through her shirt.
The Alphas outside grew impatient. A piercing alarm blared through the base.
The reinforced concrete walls became as thin as paper under the brutal assault, shaking precariously. Zhu Yu carefully carried Bai Shuzhou into the old cockpit and hurriedly buckled her in.
The woman was unexpectedly quiet and obedient now. Her wet, misty eyes were devoid of light. As the lights flickered on, Zhu Yu saw the dried tear tracks on her cheeks, and her heart twinged with pain.
Zhu Yu placed the only safety helmet on her, carefully tucking away her silver hair. This old machine’s greatest strength was that it was sturdy and had plenty of power.
There was no time for fear. Zhu Yu followed her instincts to start the engine, targeting the skylight above the deafening roar. They had to burst out of here—it was their last chance!
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her neck.
Zhu Yu looked down. She saw the bright red mole trembling slightly. Bai Shuzhou was holding the needle of the anesthetic right against her throat. A bead of blood seeped from under the sharp tip.
“I hate you,” she whispered. Her cold voice was ground down to grit.
“I’m sorry,” Zhu Yu swallowed with difficulty. “Then go ahead and hate me.”
She pinned Bai Shuzhou’s wrist, forcing her into an embrace to protect her. At the same time, she slammed her hand onto the throttle at the exact moment the main doors were blown open.
