A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 13
Lin Ruoxue was a person who kept her word; generally, if she made a promise, she would definitely see it through.
Take, for example, the vow she made to An He last night: that no matter where An He went, she would bring Lin Ruoxue along, staying inseparable.
So, when An He scrambled out of bed early this morning to wash her face, Lin Ruoxue scrambled up right after her, following close behind her heels.
An He was still dazed with sleep. She bent down, preparing to splash her face, when she caught a glimpse of a person standing behind her. She was instantly startled into a shiver.
Lin Ruoxue quickly reached out and rubbed An He’s head, handing over a towel with a smile that looked perfectly harmless.
An He was choked up by that smile; the words she wanted to say got stuck in her throat. It took a long time before she could force out a sentence: “Don’t follow me like this next time.”
“Okay,” Lin Ruoxue nodded, agreeing lightning-fast.
Only then did An He feel relieved. She turned back to continue washing her face. Lin Ruoxue stared at her from the side for a while before she, too, began splashing and scooping water to freshen up. Her eyes were bright and full of joy.
After freshening up, An He planned to go out for a stroll and grab some breakfast.
Before she could even decide whether or not to invite Lin Ruoxue along, Lin Ruoxue had already consciously stuck to her side.
“Stay a bit further away from me,” An He didn’t hesitate this time, scolding her with a frown.
Lin Ruoxue acted as if she hadn’t heard a word.
Not only did she ignore it, but she also blinked at An He with a face full of innocence, looking like a young maiden who knew nothing of the world.
An He: “…” Stop acting. You think I don’t know your true colors?
Seeing that the person behind her was dead-set on following, An He didn’t bother wasting any more breath—it was useless anyway. She took a deep breath and tried her best to ignore the “large organism” stuck to her side, pushing the door open and walking out as usual.
The Ghost Festival had passed. The prosperity and bustle gradually returned to calm, and everything reverted to its original state.
Ghost Brother had returned early to light the stove and fill the wine jars. The ghosts who frequently drank at the inn followed one after another, finding random tables to sit at. Most of them looked quite happy, unlike their previous gloomy selves; some even ordered an extra jar of wine.
However, this scene was not a good omen for An He.
Yesterday, the Gates of Hell were wide open. Every ghost who could go back had returned home for a look. Naturally, they all knew exactly how their wives and children were doing. There was no longer any need for them to spend money to listen to An He’s nonsense.
Thus, An He became a “discarded concubine in the cold palace.” Her little stall remained deserted all morning; not a single ghost was willing to patronize her.
During this time, Lin Ruoxue got her a bowl of soy milk and two vegetable-filled buns. Although An He was reluctant to eat greens, she felt the current scene was a bit too tragic, so she fiercely wolfed down the buns until not a crumb remained.
“The famous divine calculator, Immortal An~” the System nagged in her head, mocking her. “Falling from grace overnight—what is the hidden story behind this? Is it a loss of morality or a distortion of human nature?! Welcome to the first episode of System Leads You to Decipher An He’s Unspeakable Stories!”
An He: “…That’s enough out of you.”
Seeing that there really was no business today, An He sighed, intending to just pack up her stall and call it a day. Suddenly, Lin Ruoxue, who had been sitting beside her in silence all morning, spoke with a hint of sentimentality.
“Xixi, was your business always this bad before?”
As she spoke, her eyes remained fixed on An He, and she unconsciously shook her head slightly, as if she were pitying her.
“Don’t do this anymore in the future,” she added. “I’ll take care of you.”
An He: “…” I feel like I’m being looked down upon. Yet, she couldn’t find a single reason to refute her. It was infuriating.
“You’ll take care of me?” An He finally felt she couldn’t lose face. She couldn’t resist trying to act tough and talk back. “With those gold ingots you conjured out of mud?”
An He got angry just thinking about it. The reason she had been “slept with” by Lin Ruoxue, in the final analysis, was because she had been momentarily confused—her eyes blinded by that glittering gold ingot.
Later, while she was still lying in bed unable to get up, she had tried to comfort herself. She thought that although she’d been “eaten,” she hadn’t really lost out; at least she got a gold ingot and some pleasure out of it.
It wasn’t until she propped up her aching waist and leaned against the wall to check the ingot that she discovered it had turned back into a pile of mud.
An He: “I have a few words I’d like to—” System: “Say them! Go for it! Take her down!” An He: “I can’t. I’m a coward. I can’t beat her.” System: “Then what are you even talking to me for?! What’s wrong with you, sis?!” An He: “…”
In the end, that matter had passed because An He didn’t dare speak up. But hearing Lin Ruoxue making such grand claims today, she couldn’t help but want to snap back.
“Oh, that.” Lin Ruoxue looked uncharacteristically embarrassed. She smiled, trying to explain, “I was in a hurry back then and had nothing on me. I could only use a small illusion to trick you. Besides, didn’t you fail to see through it at the time?”
“Hey!” An He had been waiting for an apology, but Lin Ruoxue’s response only made her feel more “furious in all directions.”
Just as she was preparing to continue her rebuttal, Lin Ruoxue suddenly grabbed her hand and placed a small, round object into her palm.
“What’s this?” An He froze and looked down at her palm.
It was actually a pale purple pearl—plump, round, and quite lovely.
“Pick it up and look.” Lin Ruoxue’s voice sounded in her ear, her breath tickling An He’s cheek.
It was strangely embarrassing.
An He thought this while gently holding the pearl up to the light, turning it over to inspect it. She saw characters engraved on it—every stroke was exquisite. At a glance, it was clear that a great deal of time and effort had gone into carving it.
On the front was Lin Ruoxue, and on the back was Ren Xixi.
“Do you like it?” At some point, Lin Ruoxue had clasped An He’s hand. Her palm was very warm, and the heat quickly traveled through the skin to An He. “This time it’s real. No tricks.”
“Mhm…” An He responded, rolling the small pearl in her palm. “Where did you get this?”
“Back when you were still keeping me,” Lin Ruoxue smiled, her eyes scattered with tenderness. “You rarely stayed in the room to accompany me. I had nothing to do, so I always wanted to make some little trinkets.”
“I thought it would be a good birthday gift for you in the future. I figured you’d probably be happy when you saw it…”
“So this pearl was also from that time…” An He paused.
“Yes,” Lin Ruoxue nodded. She transformed her hand back into a claw to let An He see the tips. “I carved it bit by bit with these.”
“Including the hairpin on your head, and this pearl in your hand.”
