A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 2
An He kept her head lowered, avoiding Lin Ruoxue’s gaze. Her pretty face was veiled in the darkness.
She remained silent, looking both stoic and pained—a sight that would inevitably make anyone feel a twinge of pity.
Lin Ruoxue simply stared at her, falling into an involuntary silence. The hand hidden beneath her sleeve clenched into a tight fist.
“Is today’s food not to your taste?” After an unknown amount of time, Lin Ruoxue finally spoke slowly.
She crouched down, her exceptionally beautiful eyes fixed on An He’s face, her tone gentle.
The food on the small wooden table was almost untouched. The rice was perfectly neat, and the green vegetables were undisturbed—no different from when they were first brought in.
“No,” An He replied. She rose from the ground, turned toward the corner of the wall, and sat down. With her eyes tightly shut, she added, “I just have no appetite.”
“But you can’t treat your body like—”
“I’m fine.” Hearing this, An He reopened her eyes, which were filled with mockery and disdain. “Don’t trouble yourself over it. Please leave.”
Upon hearing those words, the light in Lin Ruoxue’s eyes instantly dimmed.
An He didn’t engage with her further. She crossed her legs and began reciting the Diamond Sutra, having finally managed to remember the opening lines.
Lin Ruoxue said nothing more. She simply stood a short distance away, watching her silently.
She watched this person whose body she had clearly obtained, yet whose heart she could never seem to reach.
An He was very beautiful. Her eyes were beautiful, her nose was beautiful, and her lips were beautiful. Lin Ruoxue loved her eyes most of all; they were expressive, as if filled with the brilliance of spring.
Lin Ruoxue hoped that one day, those eyes would reflect her own image—even if only for a second, even if only once.
After a long while, the sound of the cell door opening suddenly rang out.
An He squinted and saw Lin Ruoxue lower her head, turn around, and depart.
At some point, a small medicinal pill had appeared on the table. An He waited until the sound of footsteps completely faded before walking over to inspect it, guessing that Lin Ruoxue must have left it for her.
The pill was pure white, wrapped in a faint blue glow. It smelled wonderful, carrying the scent of flowers.
“Let’s see here.” An He held the pill, turning it over several times before clicking her tongue lightly. “This is definitely good stuff.”
“Mm,” the system hummed in response.
“Lin Ruoxue is quite generous,” An He continued. “Refining this must have taken a lot of effort…”
“So?” the system sighed, its tone impatient. “Are you going to forgive her just because of a pill?”
“Of course not.” An He shook her head. She fished a handkerchief from her pocket, wrapped the pill up, and carefully tucked it away. “I haven’t forgotten how she’s treated me.”
Hearing this, the system’s attitude softened slightly, thinking that this girl at least had a bit of backbone.
However, a second later, a sentence came out of An He’s mouth that nearly infuriated the system to death.
“She won’t even let me eat meat anymore!” An He complained. “How excessive is that? This table is full of ‘forgiveness color’ (green veggies)—who could swallow this?”
System: “…” To hell with you.
Unaware of the system’s mental journey, An He sat back down on the patch of ragged straw in the corner, looking quite distressed.
Although she appeared to be practicing Buddhism—copying and reciting scriptures all day with great fervor—it was all for show. Back when she was at home, she never restricted herself from wine or meat.
Since being thrown into this dungeon, she had been forced to maintain her “desire-free” persona. She only pretended to pick at the vegetables when people were watching.
As soon as they left, she would usually shove meat into her mouth.
Some unobservant person must have seen her and reported back to Lin Ruoxue. Lin Ruoxue, thinking An He was mistreating herself, promptly cut off her meat supply and ordered the kitchen not to even use oil when stir-frying her vegetables.
An He felt that one day, she really ought to make Lin Ruoxue taste her rations personally. Who could eat these stir-fried leaves that didn’t have a drop of oil and were even slightly burnt!
An He: “So angry.”
System: “…”
An He: “Maybe I should just escape.”
System: “…”
An He: “Hey, System-er, do you have any items that can help me escape successfully?”
This time, the system finally spoke, using a single word: “Yes.”
“What is it?” An He asked eagerly, full of anticipation.
“Have you seen The Shawshank Redemption?” the system asked back.
“I have,” An He nodded. “The lead actor is very handsome, and the plot is especially… Wait. You don’t want me to tunnel out with a spoon, do you?”
The moment she finished speaking, a spoon appeared in her hand.
An He: “I have a few words I’d like to—”
System: “Unspeakable. Hold it in. Get lost.”
An He: “…”
She sighed and stared at the spoon for a while. She turned back to the table, sat down, and compared it to the spoon that came with her meal.
Only then did she realize that the spoon provided by the system wasn’t even as large as the one included in her set meal.
“System-er, this is unfair,” An He said, feeling very depressed.
“You can use both spoons to dig at the same time,” the system chuckled.
“How many years is that going to take?” An He asked.
“Why worry about that? Just dig!” the system said.
An He: “Sigh, fine, fine.”
Saying this, she tucked both small spoons into her pocket.
The guards in the dungeon changed twice a day—one for the day shift and one for the night.
Despite the heavy security, An He had long since observed that once the Hour of the Rat (midnight) passed, the night guard couldn’t help but doze off.
As soon as the guard fell asleep, An He was left unsupervised. She immediately pulled out her spoons, crouched in the corner, and began to dig.
Because the dungeon never saw sunlight, the corners were extremely damp. Not only were there mushrooms growing there, but there were also various bizarre-looking insects. In the short time An He had been digging, she had already seen several—black ones, white ones, fat ones, thin ones, big ones, small ones…
An He: “Gag.”
“Keep going!” The system cheered her on in her mind, specifically selecting a few of the loudest strings of firecrackers to play for her, complete with a rhythmic crackle-pop-bang.
Though the sound wasn’t exactly pleasant, it did encourage An He to an extent, making her feel as though her body was surging with strength.
After digging with full gusto for over an hour, the wall in front of her suddenly began to wobble.
“What’s happening?” An He was startled. She jumped back quickly and stared at the wall in surprise.
“It’s about to collapse,” the system said.
“It’s collapsing after just a few digs?” An He was incredulous.
“Bullsh*t,” the system countered. “Look at who gave you the spoon.”
As soon as the system finished speaking, the wall in front of her suddenly gave way with a loud BOOM.
The guard sleeping outside woke up instantly. He opened his eyes to see a massive hole in the wall.
And the girl he had been ordered to monitor was already long gone.
