A Max-Level Film Queen Takes on the Scumbag Alpha Script [Transmigration] - Chapter 14
The night breeze was gentle.
Jiang Baihe pulled Yan Shu toward a flower wall where there were fewer people. Under the glow of the wall lamps, she carefully examined Yan Shu’s wrist. Seeing the red marks slowly fading, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She felt a bit dejected and spoke with an apologetic tone: “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have left your side.”
“I don’t know what’s going on tonight, a bunch of random people coming out of the woodwork to cause trouble. I’m thinking we might need to bring a bodyguard whenever we go out from now on…”
As Jiang Baihe was dejectedly replaying the night’s events in her head, she heard Yan Shu’s cold, clear voice ring out in her ear.
“Is being married to me making things difficult for you?”
Jiang Baihe was startled. She looked up at Yan Shu: “How could you think that?!”
Seeing Jiang Baihe’s shocked reaction, Yan Shu paused. She closed her eyes for a moment, finally deciding to ask clearly: “I saw you near the restroom earlier. If you have an Omega you like, I won’t force you. Our marriage can be annulled at any time…”
“Stop! Stop right there!”
Hearing Yan Shu’s words become increasingly outrageous, Jiang Baihe couldn’t help but interrupt her. She was also a bit angry. Of course, she wasn’t angry at Yan Shu, but at herself. She was angry that she hadn’t handled things well enough to prevent Yan Shu from seeing those unpleasant people. Worst of all, she had actually been misunderstood.
Jiang Baihe felt a headache coming on. She felt her pheromones starting to stir again, but releasing them now would obviously only heighten Yan Shu’s wariness. She took two deep breaths, trying her best to suppress the urge.
She looked at the expressionless Yan Shu leaning against the wall and subconsciously ground her teeth. On impulse, Jiang Baihe reached out a hand and braced it against the wall next to Yan Shu, trapping her in a classic “kabedon” pose.
She looked down at Yan Shu and said calmly: “I can explain everything to you, okay?”
Yan Shu gave her a faint glance, noncommittal.
Seeing a chance, Jiang Baihe immediately spoke: “I know I used to be wild, and my character wasn’t the best…” As she spoke, Jiang Baihe couldn’t help but curse the original scumbag Alpha again for leaving such a mess.
She paused and continued: “But since we got married, I haven’t contacted any of them! I only went over to talk to them today to make a clean break and cut ties for good.”
“As for that Omega,” Jiang Baihe thought for a moment and decided to share her suspicions: “She was sent there on purpose to get close to me. Her acting wasn’t up to par, and I saw right through her. I don’t know who arranged it, but their goal was clearly to drive a wedge between us and make us fall out…”
“I’m really trying my best to become a better person, and I’ve always wanted to make up for my past mistakes.”
As she spoke, Jiang Baihe intentionally put on a hurt expression. She knew Yan Shu was the type who responded better to softness than force; this bit of acting was second nature to her. Besides, she really did feel a bit hurt today, so it wasn’t a total lie.
She lowered her gaze and concluded the night’s explanation with a slightly aggrieved tone: “Little President Yan, you aren’t really going to fall for someone else’s scheme to turn us against each other, are you?”
Yan Shu glanced at Jiang Baihe and then turned her head away.
The sky had completely darkened at some point. Stars twinkled in the ink-black sky, and the watery moonlight spilled onto the ground in patches. Under the dim yellow light above, their two figures, leaning close together, stretched indefinitely across the pavement.
Yan Shu thought back to what had just happened. When Jiang Baihe saw her in trouble, her anxiety and self-reproach didn’t seem faked. And the explanation she just gave sounded fairly sincere.
So… was Jiang Baihe truly worth her trust? Yan Shu couldn’t figure it out herself.
Seeing that Yan Shu wasn’t looking at her or speaking, Jiang Baihe didn’t know if she was believed or not. She started to get anxious: “If you don’t believe me, I’ll go find them and confront them—ugh!”
Caught off guard, Jiang Baihe found herself with an armful of Yan Shu.
Unlike the feeling when that female Omega lunged at her—where her only thought was to push her away and avoid physical contact with a stranger—when Yan Shu proactively hugged her, Jiang Baihe’s first instinct was to steady her own staggering body so she wouldn’t fall and take Little President Yan down with her.
Jiang Baihe reached out to stroke Yan Shu’s long hair and asked gently: “Were you scared tonight? I promise you, nothing like this will ever happen again.”
Yan Shu buried her face in Jiang Baihe’s shoulder and closed her eyes. She didn’t know why she had become so fragile tonight; it wasn’t like her old self at all. But hearing Jiang Baihe’s gentle voice in her ear, her chaotic thoughts slowly began to settle.
After hugging for a dozen seconds, Yan Shu sighed softly. Her red lips parted slightly as she spoke in a low voice: “I will investigate what you said over the next few days… I’ll give you one more chance.”
“Good.”
Leaving the flower wall, the two headed back toward the banquet area. Having resolved the conflict with Yan Shu, Jiang Baihe felt much lighter. She hummed a tune in high spirits, but paused when they passed the fountain, speaking with a bit of lingering fear: “Was I too impulsive just now? That Alpha won’t drown, will she? I won’t get retaliated against later, right?”
Yan Shu: “…”
How could anyone drown in that little bit of water? Jiang Baihe clearly had a very low opinion of that woman’s survival skills.
However, she didn’t burst Jiang Baihe’s bubble, simply stating: “She wouldn’t dare.”
“True.” Jiang Baihe thought of something and said with a bit of pride: “After all, I’m someone covered by Little President Yan. Little President Yan, are we staying much longer?”
“Mhm. I want to take you to meet two people.”
Jiang Baihe looked at Yan Shu curiously: “Can I ask who?” She had thought Yan Shu brought her tonight just to celebrate Gu Qingyan’s return. There were others?
Yan Shu: “Yu Wan and Ye Jiaojiao.”
“I brought you here to introduce you to them, but so much happened tonight that I’m not sure if they’ve left yet.”
Hearing those two names, Jiang Baihe froze in place. She swallowed hard and asked tentatively: “Are they the ones I’m thinking of?”
When she first transmigrated, Jiang Baihe had spent a lot of time online familiarizing herself with the world’s famous figures. Because she planned to develop her career in entertainment, she paid extra attention to big names and directors. The two people Yan Shu just mentioned were a married couple, both Betas. One had just won China’s Best Short Film Award, and the other was the screenwriter for that award-winning work.
And now, Yan Shu was saying she wanted to introduce her to them! It turned out that “pies really do fall from the sky”!
Yan Shu shook her head: “I have some history with them. We’re just going to say hello; it won’t influence any future casting.”
Jiang Baihe listened to the explanation, but she was no rookie in this circle. She knew that in any industry, those with a large network always have better opportunities. Even if it didn’t land her a role immediately, building a rapport with a great director ahead of time gave her a head start.
Jiang Baihe suddenly remembered the insults from those “fair-weather friends” earlier tonight. They all thought she was just “clinging” to Yan Shu’s leg to act big. Looking at the seemingly indifferent Yan Shu before her, Jiang Baihe had never craved success so intensely—she wanted the chance to stand as an equal by Yan Shu’s side.
She wanted people, when mentioning them together, to stop saying she was clinging and instead say they were a match made in heaven, a power couple.
She wanted many things… but at this moment, she only wanted Yan Shu. She looked at Yan Shu, who was a few steps ahead of her, and spoke playfully. Though she hadn’t drunk much, she sounded a bit tipsy:
“Little President Yan, why are you so good to me?”
So good… that I never want to let you go.
