A Paranoid Alpha Childhood Friend is Acting Spoiled Again - Chapter 11
But children don’t understand such complexities. Nuo Fanxi only knew that if she and Tang Mo were both Alphas, they would grow up to be like their parents—they would have to marry Omegas. If that happened, they couldn’t be “Number One best friends” anymore.
So, while Bai Xiaozhu and Tao Wanqing were busy arguing over who would eventually be the mother-in-law and who would be the mother-of-the-bride, Nuo Fanxi decided the adults were being far too childish. Why argue over something when she could just go and ask her Momo directly?
“Momo, I have to tell you something. My Mommy said that because I’m an Alpha, I have to be with an Omega later. When I grow up, I have to marry an Omega, so I won’t be Number One best friends with you anymore.”
When Tang Mo heard that Nuo Fanxi wouldn’t be her Number One best friend, her little brows knitted together. She stood up from the sofa, confused. “Why does Xixi have to be with an Omega later? There isn’t a rule saying that!”
Nuo Fanxi’s big, watery eyes darted around as she had a sudden spark of inspiration. “But Mommy said Alphas marry Omegas when they grow up. Momo is an Alpha too, so you’ll have to be with some other Omega, just like me.”
This made Tang Mo incredibly unhappy. She only wanted to play with Nuo Fanxi; she didn’t want to find anyone else. If growing up meant she had to play with other people, she’d rather not grow up at all.
“But why do we have to find other Omegas?” Tang Mo pouted. “I play perfectly well with Xixi. Why should we be with other Omegas just because we’re Alphas? Don’t you think that’s totally unfair, Xixi?”
Nuo Fanxi nodded in agreement. “I actually think the adults’ way of thinking is very unfair too! But that’s what they say, and we’re just kids. We can’t win an argument against them.”
“But what adults say isn’t always right! Since they aren’t always right, why should we do what they say?”
Tang Mo couldn’t wrap her head around it. This was something she desperately wanted to understand. “Like Daddy and Mommy—the things they say aren’t always right either. Just because we’re kids doesn’t mean they can refuse to admit they’re wrong and claim they’re right. Don’t you think so, Xixi?”
Nuo Fanxi nodded vigorously. “Exactly, exactly. But we have to convince my Mommy and Godmother Xiaozhu. Otherwise, they’ll definitely make us be with some other Omega kids.”
Convincing adults was no simple task. Bai Xiaozhu was very strict with her; once she made a decision, she rarely changed it. For Tang Mo, facing her father was easy, but when it came to Bai Xiaozhu, she truly lacked confidence.
But she really didn’t want to be with other kids. She only wanted to be by Nuo Fanxi’s side. They were happy together, but it would be different with anyone else.
Tang Mo thought for a long time, then suddenly looked up, her eyes shining. “The adults want us to be with other Omega kids because Omegas grow up to marry Alphas, right? Then I’ll just agree to marry you, Xixi! That way, you won’t have to be with some other Omega kid when you grow up!”
Nuo Fanxi had expected Tang Mo to say that they’d stay best friends no matter what Godmother said, and that they just wouldn’t do the things they didn’t want to do. But after hearing Tang Mo’s proposal, Nuo Fanxi felt this method was much more reliable.
She bent down and began rustling through her small backpack.
Tang Mo tilted her head, confused. “Xixi, what are you looking for?”
After a moment, Nuo Fanxi pulled out a children’s smart watch. Tao Wanqing had bought it for her because she was worried the girl might get lost; it had a GPS tracker and could make calls. Nuo Fanxi took it everywhere.
“A watch?” Tang Mo was even more confused. “What are you doing with your watch, Xixi?”
On the day she got it, Nuo Fanxi had tested every single feature. Some of them she didn’t quite understand—they were a bit difficult for a child to grasp—but she knew what most of the basic buttons did.
She swiped the screen, found the voice recording function, and held it up to Tang Mo’s mouth.
“This is…”
“Since adults don’t believe what we kids say, I’ll record what you just said, Momo. That way, when I go to Godmother Xiaozhu, she won’t think we’re lying.”
Tang Mo thought that made sense, so she spoke into the watch, repeating what she had just said.
A few days later, during a holiday, Tao Wanqing and Bai Xiaozhu were enjoying a rare afternoon tea together at home. Their husbands, Nuo Lin and Tang Guanqing, had also managed to squeeze some time out of their busy schedules to join them for a meal. With both sets of parents present, Nuo Fanxi brought out her watch.
Tao Wanqing and Bai Xiaozhu watched the precocious little girl, wondering what she was up to. They stared as Nuo Fanxi swiped the screen and tapped the recording.
“Xixi baby, what are you doing?” Bai Xiaozhu couldn’t help but ask.
Nuo Fanxi said, “Godmother Xiaozhu, I heard the adults say that if Momo and I are both Alphas, we have to find other Omega kids later. But Momo and I don’t want other Omega kids. So, Momo said she wants to marry me! That way, we don’t have to look for anyone else!”
Tao Wanqing had just taken a sip of tea. Hearing this, she instantly spat it out. Beside her, Nuo Lin had the same reaction. Both were shocked by their daughter’s words and even felt a bit guilty—as if they had taught her something scandalous.
They felt especially guilty facing Bai Xiaozhu.
Tang Guanqing, on the other hand, didn’t see a problem. He found the child’s logic hilarious and burst into laughter. Only Bai Xiaozhu remained still. If her thoughts could be visualized, her expression would have been cracking into pieces.
“Xixi baby, do you actually know what adults mean by ‘marriage’?” Bai Xiaozhu asked, shooting a sharp glare at Tao Wanqing and Nuo Lin.
The look in her eyes was unmistakable: Fine, you don’t teach her anything good, but you teach her this? You’re actually trying to find a way to abduct my daughter!
“Of course I know!”
Bai Xiaozhu’s expression darkened further. “Then Xixi baby, tell Godmother—what does it mean for Momo to marry you when she grows up?”
Nuo Fanxi stood tall and confident. “It means Momo can only be with me, just like Mommy and Daddy, and just like Godmother and Uncle Tang. We’ll be Number One best friends forever, and we won’t have to go find other Omega kids.”
Well… that explanation wasn’t technically wrong. The deeper layers of the meaning weren’t something they could teach a child yet. Tao Wanqing and Nuo Lin let out a sigh of relief that Nuo Fanxi hadn’t said anything more shocking.
They were usually so busy that they had little time for education, and they didn’t dare think too far into the future. The “betrothal” was just a casual agreement; no one knew what the future would hold. Although the Tangs and Nuos were old family friends, the generation with the deepest ties was gone. There was a significant gap in their social status now—honestly, the Nuo family was “climbing up” by associating with the Tangs.
Fortunately, Nuo Fanxi was still small. It was normal for her to be clingy with Tang Mo. A child’s world is pure. It wasn’t strange for her to say such things without an adult teaching her.
“I see.” Bai Xiaozhu gave Tao Wanqing another look. “So, Xixi baby just wants Momo to play with her, and doesn’t want other kids to play with her? Is that it?”
Nuo Fanxi nodded hard. “Because Momo and I made a pinky promise. We are Number One best friends. No one else is.”
Seeing the girl mark her territory at such a young age, Bai Xiaozhu grew even more suspicious that Tao Wanqing was the culprit. She’s teaching the kid nonsense all day just so she can be the mother-in-law!
“But Xixi baby, when people grow up, they have many, many friends. You’ll meet many other kids your age, and so will Momo. Your interests might change. How can you be sure you’ll still be Number One best friends with her then?”
As soon as the question left her mouth, Bai Xiaozhu realized it was “out of the syllabus.” Even adults couldn’t answer that, let alone a six-year-old. It was a reflex from her years of work; she couldn’t help but ask. She quickly corrected herself: “Let me ask a different question. Was what you just said your own idea, Xixi baby?”
As she asked, she stared intently at Tao Wanqing.
Nuo Lin and Tao Wanqing looked down guiltily. They were certain they hadn’t taught her this, but Bai Xiaozhu’s “my daughter is being stolen” aura made them feel like thieves anyway.
Nuo Fanxi replied, “Of course it was my own idea!”
“Oh? Not something Daddy or Mommy taught you?”
“Nope.”
“Xixi baby, you can’t lie to Godmother, you know?”
“I know for sure!”
Only then did Bai Xiaozhu retract her murderous gaze. She smiled and patted Nuo Fanxi’s cute head. “Alright. If Momo has no objections, then Godmother has no objections either.”
Nuo Fanxi’s watery eyes lit up instantly. “Really?! Godmother Xiaozhu!”
Bai Xiaozhu gave a perfunctory “Mhm” and coaxed Nuo Fanxi to go upstairs and play with Tang Mo.
As soon as Nuo Fanxi was gone, Bai Xiaozhu looked across the table at Tao Wanqing—who had an “I won, yeah!” look and was laughing. In a fit of pique, Bai Xiaozhu picked up a pillow and threw it straight at her.
