A Paranoid Alpha Childhood Friend is Acting Spoiled Again - Chapter 14
Finding the culprit wasn’t difficult. Primary schoolers are afraid of teachers in their very bones, much in the same way they fear their parents. With just a slightly stern interrogation, they will confess everything.
However, since the person who started the rumor was Fang Xiaoyu, Teacher Zhang could only give her a verbal warning and a lecture. If the head teacher didn’t even want to deal with this child, it certainly wasn’t the place of a subject teacher to intervene.
To resolve it, Teacher Zhang simply called out Fang Xiaoyu in front of the class, made her apologize to Nuo Fanxi, and had them shake hands and make up in front of everyone.
The matter was laid to rest for the time being.
For the next week or two, Fang Xiaoyu stayed away from Nuo Fanxi. She even stopped pestering Tang Mo like a sycophant. This led Nuo Fanxi to believe that Fang Xiaoyu had truly repented, so she stopped holding a grudge.
That was until Tuesday of the third week, during recess. Nuo Fanxi was at her desk working on her math homework when Fang Xiaoyu suddenly walked over.
“Nuo Fanxi.”
Nuo Fanxi looked up in confusion. Seeing it was Fang Xiaoyu, she didn’t feel hatred, but she didn’t like her either. She asked bluntly, “What are you doing here? Isn’t your seat over there?”
Fang Xiaoyu still sat next to Tang Mo, but lately, she hadn’t been bothering her. She had been staying in her seat quietly, not even going out to play with the others—she had been remarkably well-behaved.
“I was wrong about what happened before. I already apologized in front of the class and we shook hands. Now, I want to be friends with you.”
“Be friends with me?”
“Yeah, is that not allowed?”
“Then what about your other friends? Are you not playing with them anymore?”
The “other friends” referred to Fang Xiaoyu’s lackeys who followed her everywhere like shadows.
Upon hearing this, Fang Xiaoyu’s face twisted with disdain. “They aren’t my friends. They just want my snacks and toys. If I weren’t so bored and looking for people to talk to, I wouldn’t bother with them at all.”
“Then you’re really quite pitiful.”
“What did you say, Nuo Fanxi?!”
Nuo Fanxi replied, “Other students have their own best friends, but you don’t. If that’s not pitiful, what is?”
Stung by the truth, Fang Xiaoyu flew into a rage. “Who—who says I don’t have best friends?! It’s just that those people aren’t worthy of being my friends! Their families are so poor; I can buy them off with a single snack. They get happy for half a day over a toy. They just want to suck up to me for things. They don’t deserve to be my friends.”
“Oh.” Nuo Fanxi didn’t care to argue and lowered her head to continue her math problems.
Seeing that she was being ignored, Fang Xiaoyu felt slighted. Her face darkened with anger, and she suddenly snatched Nuo Fanxi’s math workbook away.
“What are you doing?!” Nuo Fanxi stood up. “Fang Xiaoyu, give my workbook back!”
Seeing Nuo Fanxi grow anxious, Fang Xiaoyu smirked triumphantly. “I won’t. But if you want it back, you have to answer one question. Otherwise, I’ll throw it out!”
September in City B had ushered in the rainy season. Torrential rain poured down daily as if the sky were an open faucet. The entire school building and office blocks were shrouded in rain; the ground was soaked, and there wasn’t a dry spot to be found. Sitting in the classroom, one could hear the constant drumming of rain against the windows.
If it weren’t raining, it wouldn’t have been a big deal if Fang Xiaoyu threw the book out; Nuo Fanxi could just go down and pick it up. But with the heavy rain, the paper would be ruined the moment it touched water—and today happened to be the day Teacher Zhang was collecting the homework.
Nuo Fanxi was a very principled child. She felt physically uncomfortable if she didn’t finish her assignments. Faced with Fang Xiaoyu’s threat, she was forced to surrender. “Fine. Ask your question.”
Fang Xiaoyu was shrewd. Fearing that Tang Mo would find out and refuse to be her friend, she pulled Nuo Fanxi into a corner and whispered, “What exactly is your relationship with Momo? Why do you get to come to school in her car?”
Fang Xiaoyu wasn’t the only curious one; everyone was. Being connected to the Tang family suggested a wealthy background—at least the kind of family that was incredibly rich from business. But Nuo Fanxi’s stationery, her backpack, and even her snacks didn’t look like they belonged to someone from that kind of wealth. This discrepancy bothered Fang Xiaoyu deeply.
“Why should I tell you?”
Nuo Fanxi was young, but she wasn’t stupid. She knew Fang Xiaoyu only wanted to use her to get closer to Tang Mo. She wasn’t about to give her that chance.
Fang Xiaoyu waved the workbook threateningly. “If you don’t tell me, it’s going out the window.”
As she spoke, she opened a window in the back row. Because the classroom windows were designed quite low, even a primary schooler could reach them by standing on their tiptoes.
Nuo Fanxi lunged forward to grab it. “Give it back!”
“Answer me, or it’s going down!”
“Give it to me!”
In the struggle, Fang Xiaoyu lost her grip. The workbook slipped from her hands and fell straight out the window, instantly disappearing into the downpour.
Nuo Fanxi stood on a chair to look down. Seeing her homework getting soaked, she scrambled down and ran out of the room without a moment’s hesitation.
In her haste, she forgot to take an umbrella. Frantic and terrified that the teacher would scold her, she ran directly into the rain to retrieve her book from the ground.
The rain was so heavy that even people with umbrellas got wet. Nuo Fanxi, running out unprotected, was drenched to the bone within seconds.
Tang Mo, who sat quite far from Nuo Fanxi, had been focused on her own work and had no idea what had happened behind her. Hearing a commotion, she looked up to see her classmates huddled by the windows. She wondered what was so interesting about the rain.
Then, a classmate sitting to her right ran over anxiously. “Momo, something’s wrong! Fang Xiaoyu threw Xixi’s workbook out the window, and Xixi ran down to get it. She’s getting soaked!”
Tang Mo immediately stopped writing, grabbed an umbrella, and ran down to find Nuo Fanxi.
But just as she stepped out of the classroom, she met Nuo Fanxi coming up. Drenched, shivering, and clutching the soaked workbook, Nuo Fanxi had a look in her eyes that was genuinely terrifying.
“Xixi!”
Tang Mo immediately turned back to her desk and pulled out tissues from her backpack. “You’ll catch a cold! Dry yourself first. I’ll call Uncle Chen right now and have him bring fresh clothes!”
Nuo Fanxi didn’t take the tissues. Fearing she would get Tang Mo wet, she took a step back.
“Xixi?”
Nuo Fanxi didn’t answer. Hugging her ruined workbook, she walked into the room. The other students parted to make a path for her, and she walked straight up to Fang Xiaoyu.
Fang Xiaoyu hadn’t expected Nuo Fanxi to get drenched just for a workbook. Feeling guilty and defensive, she backed away. “It’s not my fault! I didn’t tell you to go get it! It’s your own fault you got wet, don’t blame me!”
Nuo Fanxi’s desk mate, unable to stand it any longer, stood up behind Nuo Fanxi and pointed a finger at Fang Xiaoyu. “You went too far, Fang Xiaoyu! If you hadn’t thrown the book, Xixi wouldn’t be wet! It is your fault!”
The other students chimed in: “Yeah! That’s right!”
Even the lackeys who usually followed Fang Xiaoyu joined in the criticism this time.
Fang Xiaoyu was alone. No matter how much of a “princess” temper she had, being cornered and scolded by the entire class was too much. She reached out, intending to shove someone.
But the moment she raised her hand, she felt her balance give way. She fell backward, hitting the floor hard. A second later, the soaked, heavy workbook was slammed right into her face. The pain was so sharp that before Fang Xiaoyu could even see what was happening, she began to wail at the top of her lungs.
“Don’t you dare cry!”
Nuo Fanxi’s voice rang out, and the entire room fell silent. Even Fang Xiaoyu stopped mid-wail, stunned by the cold, sudden roar.
“N-Nuo Fanxi… you pushed me!” Fang Xiaoyu recovered and began to howl again. “Just you wait, Nuo Fanxi! I’m telling Teacher Zhu, and I’m telling my Mommy and Daddy! I’ll make them teach you a lesson!”
Nuo Fanxi was afraid—afraid the teacher might expel her. She had never done anything “bad” like this before. But this time, she truly couldn’t take it anymore. If someone bullied her, she would bully them back.
That was exactly what Tao Wanqing had taught her.
