A Pharaoh and Her Beloved Queen: Modern Chapter - Chapter 6
A bruise the size of three fingers was visible along the line of her back, and on the way to the hospital, her ankle had already swollen to the size of a steamed bun.
When Su Ya entered the ward, a nurse was applying an ice pack to Ye Zhiqing. Edith stood to the side, brow furrowed, her gaze calm yet critical.
Lightening her steps, Su Ya whispered, “VP Yi, I’ve collected all the medicine. Once the preliminary treatment is done, she can be discharged.”
“Mm,” Edith gave a perfunctory response, her eyes never leaving Ye Zhiqing for a single second.
Su Ya very consciously shrank to the side, trying her best to minimize her presence while occasionally stealing cautious glances at Edith and Ye Zhiqing.
After hesitating repeatedly, Su Ya finally pulled out her phone stealthily.
She opened WeChat, went to the “Rongbaozhai Melon-Eating Brigade” group, and her fingertips moved rapidly across the screen.
VP Ye’s Assistant Su Ya: VP Ye’s injuries are mostly handled. I’m certain this new VP Yi definitely has “ulterior motives” toward VP Ye.
HR Yuan Chacha: So the Big Boss has a love rival! And a very powerful competitor at that!!!
Planning Dept Ye Yiyi: You guys didn’t see the way VP Yi carried VP Ye out of the elevator. That domineering yet gentle look was just too handsome. Heart-eyes-face.jpg
Passerby A: I’m still rooting for the Big Boss.
Passerby B: To be honest, I feel like if the Big Boss doesn’t come back soon, her wife might get snatched away by someone else.
Passerby C: Agreed with the person above.
Su Ya was grinning brilliantly at her phone, completely failing to notice that Edith was watching her. By the time she realized it, Edith’s oppressive gaze seemed to manifest into a physical weight pressing down on her.
Su Ya hurriedly tucked her phone away. “VP Yi,”
“Go back to the company first. Prepare several extra sets of the necessary medications and put them in Zhiqing’s office,” Edith said, arching an eyebrow, her tone remaining indifferent.
Su Ya shivered involuntarily and quickly slipped out of the ward. Patting her chest, she let out a long sigh of relief, silently complaining that the new Vice President was far too fierce.
Lying on her side on the bed, Ye Zhiqing heard Edith tell Su Ya to leave. Her thick lashes drooped and trembled slightly; her red lips parted silently, but in the end, she said nothing.
Ye Zhiqing didn’t know if Edith did it intentionally or not, but with Su Ya gone, most of her needs from then on would have to rely on her.
Thinking back to Edith’s various actions while they were trapped in the elevator, Ye Zhiqing buried her head in the pillow, feeling only bashful annoyance.
The nurse soon finished treating the injuries on Ye Zhiqing’s back and ankle. When Ye Zhiqing looked up, she happened to see the nurse instructing Edith on the various precautions to take.
Edith listened very intently, looking like a student obediently following a lecture.
Soon after the nurse left, only the two of them remained in the ward.
Edith walked to Ye Zhiqing’s side, her voice now warm and gentle, a stark contrast to a moment ago. “Zhiqing, do you want to go home first or back to the office?”
Ye Zhiqing unconsciously gripped the edge of the bedsheet. The intimate address “Zhiqing” was far too ambiguous for someone she was meeting for only the second time.
After a few moments of silence, Ye Zhiqing considered her current situation. She lowered her eyes to deliberately avoid Edith’s burning gaze and said softly, “Back to the office.”
“Alright,” Edith agreed. Naturally, she turned her back and crouched down. “I’ll carry you to the car.”
“VP Edith, you can just support me and let me walk down slowly,” Ye Zhiqing declined flatly. Propping herself up with one hand on the side of the bed, her pupils dilated slightly as she looked at the crouching Edith, her eyes filled with a trace of shock.
The interactions between them seemed to be getting more and more…
Edith remained in a semi-crouched position. In the shadows where Ye Zhiqing couldn’t see, her cold expression gradually took on a hint of irritation, and her brow furrowed, but it vanished quickly. “Be good. Get on.”
Her voice was slightly husky, tinged with a hint of coaxing.
The standoff didn’t last long. Ye Zhiqing was the first to compromise, obediently leaning onto Edith’s back, even though the posture made her feel a fair amount of shame.
Though they hadn’t known each other long, Ye Zhiqing had a deep understanding of Edith’s exceptionally stubborn nature regarding certain matters.
She was certain that even if the standoff continued, the end result would likely just shift from voluntary to forced.
No longer putting up a useless struggle, Ye Zhiqing was very cooperative this time, proactively wrapping her arms around Edith’s neck.
Clearly, this move greatly pleased Edith. Supporting Ye Zhiqing’s hips, Edith walked quickly and steadily.
Both had taken off their coats earlier, leaving only thin inner layers. As they moved, the parts of their bodies pressed tightly together rubbed silently, sending a tingle of electric warmth through them.
Edith’s back was lean and powerful. Ye Zhiqing rested her head on Edith’s shoulder, feeling the cool body temperature of the person beneath her. This strange sense of security was something one couldn’t help but crave.
It was inexplicable and undefinable—she wanted to escape it, yet she couldn’t refuse.
After getting off the elevator, they reached the underground garage.
The hospital wasn’t far from the company—about a thirty-minute drive.
The car stopped steadily in front of the company entrance. Edith was the first to get out and open the back door, maintaining the posture of wanting to carry Ye Zhiqing upstairs.
Edith’s eyes were as deep as ink, filled with undisguised worry and sincerity. Looking into her eyes, Ye Zhiqing suddenly felt an abnormal throb in her chest.
Deliberately avoiding Edith’s gaze, Ye Zhiqing pursed her lips slightly and said in a gentle tone, “This won’t look good for my reputation in the company. Let’s use a wheelchair instead.”
Edith didn’t press her further. Seeing that Ye Zhiqing’s originally pale complexion had gradually returned to a rosy hue, her own tense emotions relaxed, and she waited silently to the side.
Su Ya moved quickly. A few minutes later, a wheelchair appeared downstairs.
Then, Edith naturally bent over and, in an absolutely possessive posture, lifted Ye Zhiqing from the back seat and placed her in the wheelchair.
“Ah—” Ye Zhiqing let out a startled cry. Realizing what Edith had done, the tips of her ears quickly turned crimson. Her originally elegant and self-possessed demeanor was scattered by uncontrollable bashfulness and panic.
Su Ya witnessed the entire process in a daze. With her mouth agape, she watched as the new VP Yi pushed VP Ye into the elevator.
Isn’t this my job? Who is the assistant here exactly?
By the time Su Ya followed them up to the door of VP Ye’s office, she very consciously retracted her hand before knocking.
The two in the office seemed to be getting along exceptionally harmoniously.
Ye Zhiqing reclined on the sofa, her injured foot propped up high on a cushion.
Meanwhile, Edith sat at the desk, seriously reviewing the documents. Occasionally, she would look up to ask a question in a soft voice.
It was a strange yet incredibly harmonious scene.
At that moment, Ye Zhiqing’s phone vibrated repeatedly. It was Ruan Yu.
The soft, seductive female voice came from the other end: “My darling Qingqing, I heard you got hurt. Is it serious?”
“I sprained my ankle, no bone damage. It’ll probably be mostly better by the time you’re back,” Ye Zhiqing replied, her expression relaxed and comfortable, wearing a faint smile.
Edith’s hand flipping through the documents paused for an instant upon hearing Ruan Yu’s voice. A moment later, she continued reading as if nothing had happened, but a deep crease was left on that page of paper.
