A Pharaoh and Her Beloved Queen: Modern Chapter - Chapter 8
“Hey, what on earth do you think that new VP Yi did to make VP Ye so angry? She hasn’t come to work for several days.” Sister Li from the Planning Department had been away on a business trip inspecting venues and missed the real-time updates; the moment she returned to the company, she couldn’t help but start gossiping.
The preparations for the Autumn Auction have officially entered the setup stage. Having survived the hair-pulling stress of the first half of the year, the Planning Department is actually quite idle this month compared to other departments.
“Who knows? But with VP Ye’s cold and aloof temperament, I’ve never even seen her turn red in the face. VP Yi must have gone too far.”
“If you ask me, VP Yi’s methods are too direct and aggressive—it’s easy to cause resentment.”
“Tsk tsk tsk, you guys are all…”
Before Li Shenshen could finish her sentence, a voice came from outside the door: “I think you all just want to work overtime, discussing the boss’s private affairs during office hours.”
The group, who had been chatting happily, fell silent instantly. Seeing it was Wen Wen, they let out a sigh of relief and tactfully dropped the subject.
“Hurry up and organize the planning materials for the large-scale events we’ve held over the past few years. The Big Boss wants me to send a copy of the core materials from every department to VP Yi, and they must be hard copies. It’s exhausting me.”
“Alright, you’ll have to wait a bit; the workload is likely quite large,” Sister Li replied with a smile, handing Wen Wen a glass of water.
Although Wen Wen was young, she was highly capable and down-to-earth. Her personality allowed her to get along well with the subordinates, so even though she was the CEO’s assistant, she was very popular among the staff.
The words she just spoke seemed like a joke, but while the speaker may have been casual, the listeners took it to heart. Sister Li was a veteran and understood that Wen Wen was giving them a warning.
Discussing a superior’s private life is never a glorious thing. Joking about it in a small private group is one thing—it can even be seen as building rapport between management and staff—but bringing it out into the open during work hours is clearly not a good career move.
Meanwhile, no one noticed a figure standing outside the door for a long time before finally leaving.
By the time Wen Wen had exhausted herself hauling the Planning Department’s materials upstairs, she found the office quiet and empty.
The materials from the Finance and Human Resources departments, which had been delivered that morning, had clearly been sorted, selected, and categorized.
As Wen Wen approached to place the Planning materials on the other side of the desk, she was surprised to find that the previously delivered documents were covered in pen marks.
Unable to restrain her curiosity, Wen Wen picked up a document at random. Upon a quick glance, the marked sections were, without exception, core data points.
Wen Wen’s expression shifted slightly. she skimmed through the remaining files; every single one had been meticulously highlighted.
“My goodness… it’s only been one morning. With such a massive workload, who exactly is this new VP Yi?”
While marvelling at the efficiency, Wen Wen sent a message to Ruan Yu.
As the CEO’s assistant, she knew exactly how supernatural it was to accurately screen and extract the most effective information from these files in a single morning. This new VP Yi was simply unfathomable, instantly triggering Wen Wen’s sense of alertness and professional crisis.
Ding-dong~ Ruan Yu replied quickly, but her question had nothing to do with Edith’s capabilities; instead, she asked about the conflict between Edith and Ye Zhiqing.
“What’s going on between Edith and Zhiqing?” Although away on a business trip, Ruan Yu kept a close eye on the company’s happenings.
“Boss, VP Yi officially took office three days ago… after coming back from the hospital, I went up to check once, and they seemed to be getting along harmoniously.”
Wen Wen spoke at length about every detail until her throat felt dry. She paused to take a sip of tea before continuing:
“But later, VP Ye suddenly had Su Ya go up and move things, giving up her own office to VP Yi. Especially after work, I ran into them in the garage. VP Yi wanted to hitch a ride with VP Ye, but she was rejected, and VP Ye’s expression didn’t look very good.”
After finishing her report, Wen Wen hesitated before adding, “Boss, do you have a cold?”
Ruan Yu’s voice was as soft and seductive as ever, but it sounded noticeably huskier.
On the other end of the phone, Ruan Yu paused. “No, just lacked sleep.”
Turning her head to glare fiercely at the hand currently misbehaving at her waist, Ruan Yu continued, “I’ll be back in about a week. Keep a close eye on things at the company.”
As soon as Ruan Yu finished speaking, she cut the call.
Wen Wen listened to the dial tone, looking bewildered. Is the Boss really that busy right now?
Tossing the phone onto the carpet, Ruan Yu reached back to pin the hand that had been causing chaos on her body, flipping over to sit astride Shu Ya.
She said resentfully, “Shu Ya, do you have to interfere even when I’m making a phone call? Hmm~”
Shu Ya looked up. The woman on top of her had eyes like silk and breath like orchids; every move was an alluring display of charm.
Her breathing slowed unconsciously. Shu Ya took the opportunity to pinch the soft flesh of Ruan Yu’s waist. The smooth, delicate texture under her palm made her narrow her eyes in satisfaction as she felt Ruan Yu’s slight tremor and heard that captivating soft moan.
“CEO Ruan, I am simply preventing you from accidentally leaking our relationship. After all, we are in the same industry; everyone knows us, and it wouldn’t be good for your reputation,” Shu Ya talked nonsense with a straight face, while her hands didn’t stop their movements.
Shu Ya’s upper body remained neatly dressed, while Ruan Yu was in disarray, seemingly turning into a pool of spring water. If not for Shu Ya’s hands supporting her, she likely would have collapsed long ago.
“Shu Ya, that’s enough,” Ruan Yu said, her hand trembling as she held Shu Ya’s wandering hand. She leaned forward until she was lying completely flat against Shu Ya. Turning her head, she said with feigned anger, “Director Shu, speaking of status, you are the illegitimate daughter of the Shen family who shouldn’t be seen. If our relationship were made public, you should be the one worried.”
Hot breath fell against the side of her neck, sending an electric current through her. Shu Ya’s expression darkened slightly. Upon hearing the words “illegitimate daughter,” a flash of ferocity crossed her eyes, but it was quickly hidden away again.
She grabbed Ruan Yu’s slender, white wrist with a heavy grip, and was satisfied to hear a muffled groan of pain.
Turning her head, she bit Ruan Yu’s earlobe with moderate pressure. Shu Ya’s voice was low: “Don’t let me hear those two words, ‘illegitimate daughter,’ ever again.”
Her body stiffened abruptly. Ruan Yu obediently hugged Shu Ya’s slender waist and buried her head in Shu Ya’s neck. “Mm,” her voice sounded muffled.
Ruan Yu’s mind was currently full of how Shu Ya remained cold and abstinent even in bed—looking so old-fashioned and serious, yet being a beast in disguise.
And she herself was being controlled completely. As if to vent her frustration, she took a bite of Shu Ya’s shoulder, yet couldn’t bring herself to actually use force.
Shu Ya’s eyelashes trembled. Her lips pressed against Ruan Yu’s ear: “CEO Ruan, for that bite you just took, you’ll have to pay it back twofold in bed later.”
“Shameless…”
“Mmph~~”
