A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 2
Qin Shujian had been in a vegetative state for half a year. She could clearly perceive the sounds and touches from the outside world, yet she couldn’t make a sound or move an inch.
It was as if she were trapped within the shell of her own body; her consciousness was awake, but she had no way to communicate with the outside world, forced to passively absorb all information.
The memories of being rescued after the car accident had become a bit blurry. She had grown accustomed to a routine life: every morning, specialized nurses and doctors would come to check her body.
Her mother, Qin Wan, would discuss her condition with the doctors. The results, naturally, were despairing—the chances of her waking up were nearly zero. In the beginning, her mother would sit by the bed and talk to her, her voice occasionally punctuated by stifled, low sobs. As time passed, her mother mostly became silent as well.
This situation had persisted for a long time, and everyone began to grow numb. They would administer nutritional injections, handle her bodily functions on schedule, let her sleep, and eventually…
Not a single person would say a word to her all day.
Her mother was busy, as the entire Qin family business rested on her shoulders. Qin Shujian was rational; during the long, lonely hours, she kept telling herself that her mother loved her and would not give up on her.
Until the last time her mother came to see her. Sitting by the bed, her fingers gently traced Qin Shujian’s stiff cheek, and tears fell onto her neck.
She felt a trace of burning heat.
Qin Shujian struggled to open her eyes; she wanted to respond to her mother, to reach out and hold her hand, but in the end, she could do nothing. She could only listen in despair to her mother’s soft whispers.
“Shujian, Mama has arranged a marriage for you. I know this is cruel to you, but I have no choice. The Qin family needs an heir…”
“I only have one daughter. I cannot hand over the massive Qin estate to someone else. After the wedding, I will use an artificial womb to gestate a child with your genes. Don’t blame Mama!”
“Shujian, you must be well…”
As her mother repeated the plan over and over in her ear, Qin Shujian felt her heart turn cold bit by bit. She struggled desperately, wanting to scream for her mother, wanting to refuse this absurd arrangement, but her mouth could not produce any sound.
Her mother left.
She suddenly felt a sense of sorrow—what was the point of living like this?
But she couldn’t even manage to die.
Later, she pieced together bits of information from different people’s conversations. Her mother had found an Alpha named Ye Fan to be a matrilocal spouse. This Ye Fan lacked Alpha pheromones and could not mark an Omega.
This actually made her heave a sigh of relief. At least her body wouldn’t be humiliated by a strange Alpha; otherwise, she truly would be in a state where she could neither seek life nor death.
She suddenly felt a surge of resentment toward her mother, who had ultimately chosen to give up on her. The arrival of a new life would dilute her mother’s grief, while she would slowly be forgotten in the dust.
Perhaps dying silently would be her best destination.
When the door was pushed open, she heard the matrilocal Alpha, Ye Fan, enter. At that moment, she wished she were nothing more than an unconscious walking corpse, rather than being in this state of terrified helplessness.
Fortunately, this person didn’t do anything out of line. She was just a bit talkative, chatting away incessantly by her ear.
She said: “You’re quite pitiful. Can’t eat, can’t drink, can’t walk or jump. Your soul is locked in a shell. If you had no consciousness, it would be fine, but if you do, how lonely must it be!”
“Don’t worry. Since you’ve become my wife, I’ll talk to you every day. At least you won’t be that lonely. Let me tell you a joke…”
Loneliness!
The word filled her with dread. She tried with all her might to break free of her shackles, to escape, but… she was just a husk.
She hadn’t expected that, in the end, it would be a stranger who understood her heart and the depth of her pain and helplessness. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t move—even listening to someone talk was a luxury.
At that moment, tears slid down her pale face.
“Why are you crying? Can you really hear me? Did I say something wrong? I didn’t mean to bully you. Don’t be afraid, I’ll take good care of you, okay?”
Okay.
Even though she knew the other person couldn’t hear her, Qin Shujian answered solemnly in her mind.
After that, the woman rambled on about many things. She listened quietly. Although she had always disliked talkative people, she now felt that this was actually quite nice.
Until the other person fell asleep leaning against her side, her light breathing audible. At that moment, she felt an unprecedented sense of peace and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: “This matrilocal Alpha… aside from talking too much, she seems alright.”
Her tense nerves relaxed, and Qin Shujian soon fell into a light sleep.
Ye Fan opened her eyes blearily and felt a smooth, soft sensation in her arms. She was actually hugging Qin Shujian’s arm, treating it like a body pillow.
She quickly sat up and carefully released the arm. Checking the time, it was already past 11:00 PM. She had slept for over two hours, and no one had come to wake her in the meantime.
“Sleep well. I’m going out for a bit.”
After whispering to the person on the bed, Ye Fan opened the door and went downstairs. The housekeeper, Su Yu, was in the hall directing the servants. Upon seeing Ye Fan, she greeted her respectfully.
Ye Fan then learned that Qin Wan had already left due to a busy schedule.
Su Yu said in a businesslike manner: “Miss Ye, please wait a moment. Lunch will be ready in half an hour. Around 2:00 PM, a specialist will come to give you a physical exam. If everything is fine, we can start preparing for the plan to gestate a baby through an artificial womb.”
Suddenly, the food didn’t seem so appetizing to Ye Fan. It was true she liked money, but the sudden prospect of creating a child with her genes was something she was very resistant to. It felt somewhat irresponsible.
She ate her meal without much appetite and, having nothing else to do, returned to the bedroom.
The bedroom was a suite—very large—with her own bedroom inside. The decor was luxurious. She stood by the bed looking at the quietly lying Qin Shujian, gave up the idea of going inside to rest, and decided to sit down and talk to her.
She began her monologue again.
“Sigh, you’re really unlucky—even unluckier than me. You’re so beautiful and your family is so rich; you should have had such a happy and carefree life, but now you can only lie here motionless.”
“Actually…” she paused, looking dazed. “My mom was also a vegetable. She was in a coma for five years, and finally, I chose to let go. I’ve never known if I did the right thing.”
“But I’ve read in cases about vegetative patients that some have their own consciousness, trapped in a body that can’t move. How desperate that must be. I think my mom wouldn’t have wanted to live like that either.”
Ye Fan looked at Qin Shujian on the bed again and sighed: “I wonder if you’re conscious? Two people who don’t know each other will soon have a child; I kind of regret promising your mom. I guess you wouldn’t want this either.”
“I’m not trying to curse you! If we didn’t have a child and I just stayed by your side until you passed, it wouldn’t be bad to be a ‘Widow Alpha’ and take the money to live a carefree life. But in our situation, having a child… isn’t that just creating misery?”
“I’ve decided. I still have to leave. No matter how much money they give, it won’t do.”
Qin Shujian, lying on the bed, heard Ye Fan’s words clearly. At first, she was quite moved—she also refused to have a child. But hearing the person curse her to death afterward and talk about taking the money to run away and have fun, that bit of emotion vanished instantly.
Long-term loneliness had eroded all of Qin Shujian’s hostility. It seemed nothing could stir her inner emotions anymore, and she soon came to terms with it.
It was fine if she left.
It just meant one less person to talk to.
If a child really were created, it would be even more of a hassle.
Ye Fan rambled for a long while and then went to the inner bedroom for a nap.
At 1:50 PM, Su Yu knocked on the door. The private doctor for the physical exam had arrived. Ye Fan opened the door and underwent the check-up.
The private doctor examined her thoroughly, reviewed all the results, and said: “Aside from the Alpha pheromone deficiency, everything else is normal. Before harvesting the eggs, we need to inject an Alpha pheromone stimulant in advance. Let’s proceed as planned.”
What? ‘As planned’?
Before Ye Fan could ask, the doctor pricked her arm with a needle. She cried out in pain: “What is this? You just jabbed me without warning!”
The doctor said with a smile: “Alpha pheromone stimulant. You’ll need an injection every day from now on. We can harvest the eggs in a month.”
One injection a day?!
This news further solidified Ye Fan’s plan to run away.
After the stimulant was injected, Ye Fan didn’t feel anything wrong at first. But after she showered and lay in bed after dinner, she suddenly felt a wave of dry heat rushing through her body.
The heat grew more intense. Minutes later, beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, and her body gradually became burning hot.
“It hurts…” She reached out to grab the bedsheets, but the more she gripped them, the worse she felt. It was as if something inside her body was about to explode.
Unable to endure it, Ye Fan began to tear at her clothes.
After taking off her pajamas, she felt much more comfortable, but the ensuing sensation of heat soon brought her sanity to the brink of collapse.
“Damn it! It must be that injection from today.”
Ye Fan struggled to get out of bed, wanting to take a cold shower. As she pushed open the door, a wave of dizziness hit her. She almost collapsed and only managed to steady herself by leaning against the doorframe.
She forced her consciousness to move toward the bathroom, but when she looked up, she was stunned by the scene before her.
On the bed, a woman with a graceful figure was lying there naked, her long black hair spread out. Her skin was white and delicate, emitting an alluring scent of pheromones.
Ye Fan felt a roaring sound in her head. She clutched her chest, her eyes widening in disbelief. Wasn’t the woman before her Qin Shujian?
Wasn’t she supposed to be lying motionless on the bed?
But at this moment, the woman on the bed brushed back her black hair, raised her eyes to look at her, and beckoned with a slight curl of her lips: “What are you dazed for? Come here!”
Ye Fan’s body went stiff, her heart racing faster and faster. She tried to stay calm, but the heat in her body made her increasingly unable to control herself.
She stepped toward the bed, a voice deep inside constantly telling her that this was just a dream.
Just a dream.
