A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 5
Qin Shujian’s voice was urgent. Ye Fan nodded quickly. “I get it, I get it. We’re on the same page! Neither of us wants a child!”
“Correct. I may not be able to wake up right now, but I have no desire to mess around and produce some child.” Her voice suddenly dipped, sounding a bit dejected.
Ye Fan’s heart tightened, and she hurriedly comforted her: “Don’t worry, I won’t force you. Or, I could talk to your mother about this. She should…”
“No.”
Qin Shujian sighed and repeated: “My mother won’t agree, and she won’t trust you. It’s useless even if you say it.”
Hearing this, Ye Fan’s mouth fell open. “No way… Mother Qin cares so much about you. If I tell her things that only you two know, she’ll definitely believe me! Then I can make a clean break, and we won’t have to deal with any baby!”
“Are you sure?” Qin Shujian had calmed down by now. She asked slowly, “What if I never wake up for the rest of my life? You might be kept here forever by my mother to serve as my personal translator.”
Ye Fan was about to say that being a translator was better than getting injections and having a baby, but before she could speak, Qin Shujian added another point.
“Look on the bright side—the Qin family doesn’t lack money, and paying for a translator is well within their means. But don’t you think this is too paranormal? What if, one day, you can no longer hear me? How would you explain that to my mother? Would she believe you then?”
Ye Fan’s mouth hung open; she was completely dumbfounded.
She truly hadn’t considered any of this. After discovering that Qin Shujian was conscious, Ye Fan’s first thought was simply: This is great!
A vegetative person having a conscious inner voice was a miracle—but what if that voice could only be heard by her? What if today was just an anomaly?
Ye Fan wasn’t a good liar, nor did she have any way to learn about Qin Shujian’s past life to impersonate her. If Qin Shujian hadn’t warned her, she likely would have dug her own grave. But… didn’t Qin Shujian want to communicate with her own mother?
Confused, Ye Fan didn’t understand why Qin Shujian was saying this.
Faced with this question, Qin Shujian didn’t know how to answer at first. She could only describe it as best she could.
In fact, her mother had already made it clear: the Qin family needed an heir who could take over. If she couldn’t wake up, then whether her consciousness existed or not made no difference to the family business.
Could Qin Wan really announce to the board of directors and the public: “The Qin family heir is a vegetable, but she has an inner monologue”?
Or perhaps: “Ye Fan may be a sexually inadequate Alpha, but she can hear the thoughts of a person in a coma”?
By that point, Qin Shujian wasn’t sure who would be sent to the mental asylum first—her or Ye Fan.
At this realization, Ye Fan chickened out. She really hadn’t thought things would be so serious. She swallowed hard and said with a trembling voice, “N-no way. Can’t they just look on the bright side? For example—”
For example, what? Ye Fan couldn’t think of anything herself. After hesitating for a long time, she gritted her teeth and started talking nonsense.
“For example, what if we’re destined to be? Like, some kind of natural fate, which is why I can hear your heart… just like they write in novels and TV shows…”
Before she could finish, a laugh came from the other side.
Ye Fan’s face turned bright red; she knew how unrealistic she sounded. But when she thought about the fact that Qin Shujian was conscious and yet Qin Wan was treating her like this…
That was her biological daughter. Qin Wan might be a cold-blooded, ruthless “iron lady,” but surely she still hoped for her daughter to wake up. Ye Fan couldn’t imagine it: if her own mother were conscious and could speak to someone, but that person refused to tell her…
Just putting herself in those shoes made Ye Fan feel like she was going to die of sadness.
She stood up abruptly and shook her head. “No, no, I don’t think we should jump to conclusions so hastily.”
With that, she suddenly ran out. Qin Shujian didn’t even have time to call her back. Just as she was worrying about what Ye Fan was up to, the door opened.
Ye Fan had brought Su Yu back with her. Su Yu didn’t understand what Ye Fan wanted, but she cooperated as best she could until Ye Fan leaned in and asked cautiously: “Do you hear… the sound of someone talking?”
Su Yu: “…”
Ye Fan’s face was full of anticipation, while Su Yu became increasingly silent.
Finally, unable to hold back, Su Yu asked coldly: “Did the Ye family not even let you attend school?”
“Huh?” Ye Fan was bewildered.
Su Yu had reached her limit. She bypassed Ye Fan and walked toward the door. Just before closing it, she glanced back at Ye Fan and said, “Miss Ye, please believe in science. There are no paranormal events in this world.”
With a “bang,” the door was shut.
The sound wasn’t particularly loud, but for Ye Fan—she had suffered soul-deep damage.
How could she be like this?!
Ye Fan finally realized that Su Yu was implying she was uneducated and superstitious! But clearly…
“I told you, only you can hear me. I’ve been in this state for a long time, but you’re the only one who can hear my voice,” Qin Shujian’s cool voice drifted from the side.
Ye Fan finally gave up. With a mournful face, she sat back down beside Qin Shujian and said with a pout, “I’m just a bit sad. Such a good thing… why can’t we say it?”
Her voice sounded so distressed she seemed ready to cry. Qin Shujian found it incredible—how could an Alpha’s personality be this soft?
But Ye Fan’s words had indeed touched a sore spot. If she could, she also wanted to confess to her mother and show that she had “returned”—but then what?
Could her mother not know that a vegetative patient might have consciousness?
And yet, even sitting by the bed to talk to her was a luxury. Qin Shujian could only comfort herself by thinking her mother was simply too busy. With the massive Qin estate and so many people eyeing it greedily, why add more trouble to her plate?
Even if she said Ye Fan could hear her heart, so what? Would it change the reality of the Qin family in the slightest?
No. Qin Shujian knew her mother’s mind too well. Qin Wan would do anything to achieve her goals; how could she possibly care about what Qin Shujian thought?
She knew exactly what she would do if she were in her mother’s position.
Otherwise, why would the outside world say that the student had surpassed the master—that Qin Shujian was the best heir the Qin family ever had?
Thinking of these things, Qin Shujian gave a bitter mental laugh. She eventually shook her head and advised Ye Fan: “There’s really no need to think about these things. You just need to understand what I’m saying.”
That made sense. After moping for a bit, Ye Fan finally perked up. “Then do you have any good ideas? I really can’t convince your mother on my end. She’s too stubborn and won’t listen to anything I say—I even tried to run away before, you know? It was completely useless!”
Ye Fan was referring to the issue with the child. However, on this point, Qin Shujian didn’t have any great solutions either.
She could only advise Ye Fan to behave, gain the trust of everyone in the Qin household first, and feign weakness to lull them into a false sense of security. Then, wait for a moment of chaos to escape. “It sounds like a hassle, right? But you have no other choice.”
As Qin Shujian said this, she reminded her, “The Qin family bodyguards aren’t there for show. You should realize how tough my mother is from the fact that I became the heir as an Omega. Direct escape is truly the worst possible move.”
Hearing this, Ye Fan realized the truth and nodded repeatedly. Her eyes were sparkling as she whispered a compliment: “You’re way too smart!”
Faced with such enthusiastic praise, Qin Shujian felt a bit helpless.
“This isn’t really ‘smart,'” Qin Shujian said, though her tone couldn’t help but rise slightly. “My mother and Su Yu aren’t easily fooled, so you have to learn to play the long game…”
“I know that one!” Ye Fan cut in with a quick answer. “Play the long game to catch the big fish, right!”
Qin Shujian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Ye Fan followed with a giggle and asked a few more questions. Surprisingly, Qin Shujian didn’t show any signs of impatience and answered them all one by one.
In truth, Ye Fan wasn’t stupid; she just wasn’t used to this way of interacting. Of course she knew she had to gain their trust, but…
Looking at Qin Wan and Su Yu—this master and servant pair were so stiff and stubborn. Did they look like people whose trust could be easily gained?
Ye Fan was very worried. If it weren’t for Qin Shujian’s confidence beside her, she probably wouldn’t even dare to try. Fortunately, Qin Shujian comforted her: “No need to worry. Housekeeper Su usually doesn’t talk much and doesn’t have a habit of snitching.”
“You can be a bit more casual with her; it’s okay to be a little bolder. As for my mother, she dislikes trouble. Once she’s arranged things, she won’t micro-manage, so she won’t come here often. Don’t be afraid.”
I-is it really that simple? That’s it?
Ye Fan’s eyes widened. She asked hesitantly, “But they’re so mean to me.”
“Being ‘mean’ helps keep you obedient,” Qin Shujian replied quickly and concisely.
Ye Fan was speechless, but she had to admit that the heavy stone in her heart had indeed been lifted.
This time, it was Qin Shujian’s turn to be curious. She pondered for a moment and suddenly asked: “Aren’t you going to ask why the Qin family wants you to be obedient? I thought you’d be curious about that.”
“I’m not an idiot,” Ye Fan said casually. “Mother Qin and you both just said it—it’s for a qualified heir.”
That was a difficult topic to follow. A silence suddenly fell between them. Qin Shujian didn’t know how to respond, while Ye Fan had suddenly thought of something else.
Ye Fan stole a secret glance at Qin Shujian, wondering: since her eyes couldn’t open, how did she see that her face had turned pale earlier?
Could it be that her soul was floating outside her body?
Unable to contain her curiosity, Ye Fan waved her hand over Qin Shujian’s tightly closed eyes. She suddenly broke the silence: “Do you feel like anything is… off?”
Qin Shujian: “…”
As soon as the question was asked, Qin Shujian guessed that Ye Fan had probably done something sneaky and was now testing her on purpose.
But Qin Shujian didn’t understand why Ye Fan was being so obvious about it. She decided to play along and bluff, drawing out her voice as she answered slowly: “…Hmm. Your hand… what is it doing?”
Ye Fan was startled. She lunged back two steps, looking around in panic, and finally said: “! So you really can see?!”
