A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 3
Because she was looking through the crack in the door, Yu Jinzhao couldn’t see clearly. However, she had a nagging feeling that the woman had been bullied before she woke up. After all, as one of the masters of the house, she hadn’t even been allowed to enter the room; she was simply standing outside.
Combined with the things the System had told her earlier, Yu Jinzhao’s dissatisfaction with Yu Xincheng reached its peak.
“May I come in?”
This was the first time Yu Jinzhao heard her speak. It wasn’t the soft, delicate voice she had imagined. On the contrary, her voice carried a natural chill, yet the end of her sentences seemed to have a tiny hook that unconsciously tugged at Yu Jinzhao’s heartstrings.
Yu Xincheng let out a cold snort, maintaining his high-and-mighty posture, and did not respond to Pei Daowan.
Yu Jinzhao didn’t want Pei Daowan to be dragged into this. She struggled to get out of bed, wanting to take Pei Daowan away from this place and out of Yu Xincheng’s line of sight.
The butler panicked the moment he saw Yu Jinzhao trying to get down. “Miss! You mustn’t! You used a banned substance against regulations this time, and it caused great damage to your glands. If you don’t rest properly, there will be permanent after-effects.”
Yu Jinzhao frowned. Although she had already learned what “glands” were, wasn’t Pei Daowan the one who was supposed to be drugged?
Why weren’t they worried about Pei Daowan? Why were they crowding around her? This Yu family was truly outrageous.
The System sucked in a breath of cold air. It had forgotten that it had exaggerated things a bit too much when coaxing Yu Jinzhao earlier. It hadn’t mentioned that the drug had only slightly affected the Host, while the majority of it had ended up in Yu Jinzhao’s own system.
The System glanced timidly at Pei Daowan. Pei Daowan gave a subtle nod, signaling it to proceed.
The System hurriedly scrambled into Yu Jinzhao’s mind again. “Uh, there was a bit of an accident. When the original soul tried to drug the Female Lead, the FL resisted so fiercely that part of it ended up on you. So, your glands are actually the ones with the problem.”
Yu Jinzhao froze for a moment, but she didn’t take it to heart. Glands or no glands, it didn’t matter. She hadn’t forgotten that she could only return to her own world by helping Pei Daowan fulfill her wish.
Seeing that Yu Jinzhao didn’t care about the glands, the System hurriedly advised her further: “Don’t get into a conflict with Yu Xincheng yet. After all, he is your father in name. Everything you have was given by him. He might not necessarily make things hard for you, but he will definitely make them hard for the Female Lead.”
Yu Jinzhao’s expression darkened. She was clearly repulsed by the fact that “Yu Xincheng was her father,” but considering he might take it out on Pei Daowan, she instinctively softened her tone.
“This matter has nothing to do with Pei Daowan. It was my own willful decision to use the banned drug. I’ll be more careful next time.”
Pei Daowan hadn’t expected Yu Jinzhao to say that. She could hear every word of the conversation between the System and the girl. She just wanted Yu Jinzhao to shut up. Since she had returned to this specific point in time and currently had no power of her own, “biding her time” was the only logical move.
She didn’t want Yu Jinzhao to bring disaster upon her or expose her to Yu Xincheng’s scrutiny this early. After all, a large reason she had struggled for so long in her previous life was because of Yu Xincheng.
If “Yu Jinzhao” was stupid and cruel with zero brains, Yu Xincheng was different. He was an old fox of a thousand years, with an endless supply of conspiracies and dirty tricks.
“No! It’s my fault for not taking good care of Jinzhao. It’s my problem.”
Pei Daowan was wearing a beige shawl top today over a black dress. Even though it was a bit thicker than what she’d worn that other night, Yu Jinzhao inexplicably felt that she looked cold.
The clothes were somewhat oversized, and her frame was so thin that Yu Jinzhao became even more certain that she must have faced a lot of hardship before she woke up.
After all, looking at Yu Xincheng’s face, his every word revealed contempt for Omegas and the arrogance of an Alpha.
Yu Jinzhao took a deep breath, suppressed her internal frustration, and offered Pei Daowan a kind smile. “I don’t blame you. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Hearing this, Pei Daowan’s eyelashes fluttered. She finally lifted her gaze slightly, looking at Yu Jinzhao tentatively before quickly looking away.
It was only then that Yu Jinzhao noticed the rims of her eyes were red. Her eyes were like clear autumn water, and there was an abnormal flush on her cheeks. Though she had a cold beauty, at this moment, she looked as fragile and ethereal as a cicada’s wing.
Such a moving, pitiful expression on Pei Daowan’s face made her look particularly heart-wrenching, weak, and innocent.
But Yu Jinzhao looked away after just one glance. She suddenly realized that her gaze just now might have seemed scrutinizing or judgmental, which was very disrespectful.
“I’m tired and want to rest for a bit. Pei… Wanwan can stay and look after me.”
The name “Wanwan” seemed to burn her tongue. Yu Jinzhao pronounced it so quickly that if one didn’t listen closely, they wouldn’t even realize it was a double-character nickname.
Yu Jinzhao felt her face heat up with embarrassment. She didn’t dare look at Pei Daowan’s expression. Calling her by her full name felt too stiff and distant, but calling her “Daowan” felt awkward, so she could only bite the bullet and go with “Wanwan.”
In truth, Yu Jinzhao was quite shy. She always felt that nicknames were reserved for very intimate people, and she rarely used them. She could only keep comforting herself with the fact that they were legally “wives,” even if the original soul had used underhanded means to force the marriage.
She had always been a person with a strong sense of responsibility. Since she had taken on the identity of the partner, she couldn’t remain indifferent. She had to do something.
Yu Xincheng scanned the two of them expressionlessly, tolerating Yu Jinzhao’s occasional disobedience. After all, he knew what his daughter was like. She was cruel and ruthless enough outside, but in front of him, she was always as obedient as a dog. A little bit of temporary defiance was harmless.
“It just so happens your marriage leave hasn’t ended yet. Combined with this recovery period, I’ll give you half a month off. You don’t need to go to the company.”
“Okay, I understand.”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t argue. She agreed simply to go along with him. She was a newcomer here and knew nothing; everything she knew came from the System. She had no idea what her “job” even was, so not going was for the best.
Hearing her agree, Yu Xincheng snorted and turned to leave. His exquisite cane clicked loudly against the floor. At this moment, he didn’t look like a member of the upper class at all, but rather an incompetent middle-aged man who was throwing a tantrum because he hadn’t achieved his goal.
The butler looked at Yu Jinzhao with a look of “why can’t you be better?” “Miss, everything the Master does is for your own good. You must not get angry at him over an Omega. After all, you are his only Alpha; he does all of this for you.”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t get angry this time. she only felt pity. With such a “father” and such a biased butler, it was no wonder the original soul had committed so many atrocities.
As the crowd followed Yu Xincheng out, only the two of them were left in the room. The atmosphere became awkward for a moment.
“You…”
The moment Yu Jinzhao spoke, Pei Daowan turned and closed the door. It was unclear if she had heard her.
Now that the others were gone, Pei Daowan stared at Yu Jinzhao without any expression. Because she was standing, Yu Jinzhao felt an inexplicable sense of pressure and felt slightly uneasy.
“How do you want me to ‘look after’ you?”
Finally, Pei Daowan spoke first. The words gave Yu Jinzhao such a jolt that she almost wished she hadn’t spoken at all.
She apologized somewhat frantically: “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. I just…”
Meeting Pei Daowan’s gaze, Yu Jinzhao unconsciously swallowed. Strange. She was someone who had seen her fair share of storms; she had negotiated with plenty of “old foxes” when she was starting her own business, and none of them had ever intimidated her. Why was the Female Lead’s aura so heavy?
However, she didn’t think much of it. The System had said she would eventually reach the pinnacle of life, even if the process was a bit twisty. Perhaps this was just “FL Aura.”
Taking a breath, Yu Jinzhao looked back at her.
“I only said that to deal with him, to get him to leave quickly. I didn’t actually mean for you to look after me.”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t use the word “father.” She didn’t know if Pei Daowan understood, so she hurriedly tried to explain herself: “And… I didn’t mean to call you ‘Wanwan’ on purpose. I just…”
By the end, Yu Jinzhao couldn’t even finish her own sentence. After all, she knew what had happened before this.
The original soul had spotted Pei Daowan at a banquet and, using her status, forced her into marriage, then subjected her to verbal abuse and control.
When Pei Daowan refused to submit, she actually tried to use banned drugs to break her. If it were Yu Jinzhao herself, let alone peaceful coexistence, she would probably be trying to kill the other person.
“In short, rest assured. I swear that kind of thing won’t happen again. I won’t restrict your freedom. You can go out as you please and do whatever you want. Even… even divorce is an option.”
“Oh? Divorce?”
