A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 5
Once Pei Daowan received permission to leave the house, she did so without the slightest hesitation. She had someone she needed to find.
Before her marriage to “Yu Jinzhao,” she had been a high-level executive. Although her own family was far from noble—constantly acting like leeches—she had been, relatively speaking, free.
After all, a company that large required her decision-making. It was laughable that those fools truly believed they could rest easy just because they had latched onto the towering tree of the Yu family.
When Pei Daowan reappeared at the company, the members of the Pei family were stunned. They had all heard of Yu Jinzhao’s reputation: a notorious playgirl and an excessively arrogant Alpha. How had Pei Daowan managed to get out?
Her cousin, Pei Fangming, was the first to object. If Pei Daowan returned, his hard-won status in the company would vanish instantly.
“What are you doing here instead of staying at the Yu residence to serve Sister Yu? You’re an Omega; showing your face in public all day is disgraceful. Even if Sister Yu doesn’t scold you, don’t you think it’s embarrassing for the family?”
Pei Daowan’s gaze turned cold. This idiot. She had been in a relatively decent mood, but he had ruined it in a single second.
“Pei Fangming! You’re so stupid, it’s a wonder you haven’t managed to accidentally kill yourself yet. To have spent so long doing such idiotic things—I suppose I should admire your persistence.”
“You—!”
Rebuking him in front of so many employees was a massive blow to his pride, especially coming from an Omega. Pei Fangming felt his face flush with rage and even raised his fist to threaten her.
“Wipe that look off your face. Do you really think the company shareholders listen to you? If you don’t want to be thrown out, shut your filthy mouth.”
Pei Fangming fumed but was powerless. The veterans of the company indeed didn’t listen to him. In the month Pei Daowan had been gone, the company had suffered a string of blunders. If they hadn’t climbed onto the Yu family’s back, their competitors would have carved them up by now.
“Xiao Wan is back?”
Seeing the conflict between her son and Pei Daowan, Zhong Yao hurried over with a forced smile to play peacemaker, terrified they would start an all-out brawl.
Out of respect for her aunt, Pei Daowan chose to step back. However, seeing Zhong Yao arrive, Pei Fangming felt his backup had arrived, and his attitude became even more arrogant.
“Mom! Look at her! She doesn’t act like an Omega at all. Now that she’s married, she should stay home. I gave her a piece of advice, and she actually insulted me!”
“Look at you, child, watch your tongue. She is your elder cousin, after all.”
“I don’t have a cousin like her…”
Pei Daowan didn’t catch the rest of his words, as Zhong Yao was already pushing Pei Fangming into an office.
Years ago, when both her mothers were still alive, she had been the pearl of the Pei family’s eye. Her aunt and other relatives had treated her well enough back then.
But after that incident, everything changed. Once-familiar faces turned into sharp blades aimed at her heart. She couldn’t protect the legacy her parents left behind; she could only compromise and deal with these people through hollow pleasantries.
At that thought, the hatred in her eyes nearly solidified.
Yu Xincheng! You owe me. How are you ever going to pay me back!
After soothing her son, Zhong Yao smiled awkwardly at Pei Daowan. Suddenly, her eyes met Pei Daowan’s. She gasped, recoiling a large step in fear.
“Xiao Wan!”
Realizing she had lost her composure, Pei Daowan reigned in her emotions and put on a proper smile. “Aunt.”
Truthfully, her aunt still had a shred of conscience, even if her kindness was often mixed with self-interest.
Zhong Yao patted her chest, still shaken. That look just now had truly terrified her. How could Xiao Wan have such eyes?
“Xiao Wan, A-Ming is still young. Besides, he’s an Alpha; they’re hot-headed sometimes. Don’t lower yourself to his level.”
Hearing this, Pei Daowan remained expressionless. Her aunt was a stereotypical, rigid, ignorant person. She had no thoughts or pursuits of her own; her entire world revolved around her Alpha and her son.
Pei Daowan didn’t want to engage in small talk. She turned and brushed past her without a single extra glance.
She didn’t feel hurt; she was used to it. She only felt numbness and pity. Zhong Yao was a classic “domesticated” Omega whose every motive was to preserve the family unit.
No thoughts, no career, relying entirely on her Alpha. In her previous life, when Pei Daowan sought revenge on the Yu family, Zhong Yao had actually knelt and begged her not to be so ruthless. At the very least, she had begged that “Yu Jinzhao” shouldn’t die, because she couldn’t imagine how she would live without an Alpha to depend on.
Pei Daowan didn’t blame her, really. Zhong Yao had been brainwashed since childhood to the point where she had forgotten who she originally was.
With a light sigh, Pei Daowan pushed open the door to the conference room. That earlier scene was just a minor interlude; it wouldn’t affect what she came to do today.
Inside, a meeting was in progress. The shareholders cast displeased looks at the intruder, many ready to condemn this “ill-mannered” person—until they realized it was Pei Daowan.
Wasn’t she just recently married? Why was she appearing at a shareholders’ meeting?!
Wait! She married into the Yu family—how was she even allowed out?!
For a moment, everyone had their own hidden agendas, and the atmosphere became incredibly awkward. Pei Daowan slowly scanned the room, taking in every expression.
“President Pei!”
Only a few people showed genuine joy in their eyes. They had followed Pei Daowan for a long time, knew her character, and held decent positions in the company.
But since Pei Daowan left, their lives had been a living hell. Pei Fangming, that unlearned playboy, had been practicing cronyism to consolidate power, moving people around at will and making everyone miserable.
“I’m not here for anything major. I just wanted to see the results of your meeting. Carry on, ignore me.”
She said it, but everyone knew she was testing them. They had truly believed she wouldn’t set foot in the office again after the wedding.
When Pei Daowan was here, her competence brought in massive profits. However, she had always held them under her thumb, which wounded their pride as Alphas. They had endured it only because they couldn’t match her skills.
Now, during her absence, they had all scrambled to plant their own people and carve up the company’s interests. Seeing the rightful owner back, how could they not feel guilty?
Pei Yuanwu’s face was particularly complex upon seeing his niece. He had a love-hate relationship with her; her ability was undeniable, but she was an Omega.
Luckily, she was an Omega. Otherwise, how would he have ever had the chance to plot for his sister’s estate?
An Omega had to marry eventually. Once she married into the Yu family, everything left behind would naturally fall to him. As long as her relationship with the Yu heiress remained stable, the Pei family had nothing to fear.
“Why have you suddenly come back? Why aren’t you serving your Alpha? What are you doing here?”
Hearing such disrespectful words, Pei Daowan didn’t even flinch. She simply invoked Yu Jinzhao’s name; the identity of the Yu family’s eldest daughter was a very useful tool.
“A-Zhao said I should come back and see if anything needs help.”
At the mention of Yu Jinzhao, Pei Yuanwu’s face instantly wrinkled into a fawning smile.
“Look at you! You should have said so earlier. Did Little Yu come as well?”
Pei Daowan sneered inwardly. Truly, a man who forgets honor at the sight of profit. The moment Yu Jinzhao’s name was mentioned, his entire face changed.
“She didn’t come. It’s just me today.”
Now Pei Yuanwu was confused. Why would she come back alone? Did they have a fight?!
That wouldn’t do! They’d only been married a short time, and some of the paperwork hadn’t even been finalized. There couldn’t be trouble in paradise already.
“Then why didn’t Little Yu come with you?”
Truth be told, it was embarrassing. In the month they had been married, he hadn’t even seen Yu Jinzhao’s face. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to; it was that the Great Miss Yu didn’t deign to see him.
To be able to latch onto the Yu family was a stroke of incredible luck for the Pei ancestors. Even if Pei Yuanwu had complaints, he didn’t dare say them—he only dared to nag Pei Daowan.
“Look at you, wandering off to the company instead of staying home. Even if Little Yu dotes on you, you can’t be spoiled and arrogant. I’ve heard the Elder Master Yu is quite traditional and hates seeing Omegas show their faces in public…”
Pei Yuanwu seemed to have opened a floodgate. His niece was usually too independent, and her status in the company had threatened to surpass his. Now that he finally had an opening, he began his lecture.
Furthermore, now that his sister was gone, he was the head of the Pei family. His desire to usurp her position was becoming harder to hide; he even wanted to use the name of the deceased Pei Jingqiu to suppress her.
But he didn’t dare. He had seen his niece’s fury. Pei Jingqiu and Xiang Wanmian were her “reverse scales”—no one dared mention them.
Pei Daowan had no interest in his lecture and interrupted impatiently: “I didn’t come here today to listen to this.”
Pei Yuanwu froze. “Then what did you come back for?!”
Ignoring him, Pei Daowan turned to the crowd. “I have been in management here for four or five years. I know every operation, big and small. I’ve only been gone for a month, and the company has changed this much? The people I promoted have been pushed out, and the business lines I favored have been cut.”
The faces of those present turned red then white. So, this was an interrogation.
Pei Yuanwu looked the most uncomfortable. After all, he was the one who had orchestrated all these changes in a single month.
Just then, Pei Fangming pushed the door open, his voice arrogant and overbearing. “What does an Omega like you know? This is a business adjustment and personnel restructuring. Do we need to report to you? Instead of having a few children to secure your position, you’ve come here to boss us around?”
The words were foul. Several Omegas in management could barely suppress their rage. Before Pei Daowan could even speak, someone else couldn’t take it anymore.
“Master Pei, your sister is the Executive Vice President of this company. You don’t even have a title. According to regulations, you aren’t even allowed to attend this meeting.”
“Who do you think you are? Everyone knows this company belongs to my Pei family. So what if she’s Executive VP? That can be taken back with a single word.”
The speaker was Liu Qingyi. She had joined the company right after graduation and was hand-picked by Pei Daowan despite significant pressure. Seeing her mentor insulted by such an incompetent clown, she couldn’t swallow her anger.
“Pei Daowan’s contribution to this company is obvious to everyone! If not for her, would the business have been this good over the past few years? Would you even have the chance to squander money so freely?”
“Hmph! She’s an Omega who just got lucky. She really thinks she’s something. Besides, who knows what ‘methods’ she used to get those results.”
The moment those words left his mouth, it wasn’t just the Omegas; even several Alphas found it unbearable. This was an insult without any bottom line.
“You—!”
Liu Qingyi was so angry she was speechless. She wasn’t like Pei Fangming; she couldn’t bring herself to attack someone without a moral compass. Her own sense of ethics restrained her, preventing a powerful comeback.
Pei Daowan’s expression didn’t change, as if the words had zero effect on her. She simply turned to Pei Fangming. “Come here.”
“I’ll come over, don’t think I’m afraid of you!”
SLAP!
A crisp slap stunned everyone in the room. Except for Pei Daowan, everyone present was frozen in shock.
