A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 11
The skin she touched was ice-cold, and a wave of damp moisture brushed against her. Yan Nanjue had a fleeting illusion that she wasn’t holding a person, but a block of ice.
Amidst the humid scent of rainwater, Yan Nanjue caught a very faint whiff of orange blossom.
…So fragrant.
Her mind went blank for a long while before she snapped back to reality. She brushed away the wet hair clinging to Bai Wan’s face. The person in her arms had her eyes tightly shut and her brows locked; she had already lost consciousness. Even in a faint, she bit her lower lip hard, her features clouded with unease and loathing.
Yan Nanjue reached out to check her temperature. Bai Wan was cold all over, except for her forehead, which was scorching.
She panicked. How long had Bai Wan been standing in the rain?!
Yan Nanjue felt the back of her neck and her palms; the temperature was terrifyingly high. She grew even more frantic. “System! The heroine seems to have a fever. What do you do when an Omega has a fever?!”
【System: …You call for an ambulance and send her to the hospital, obviously.】
Water continued to drip from Bai Wan’s body, quickly soaking Yan Nanjue as well. That chill traveled through their touching skin like seaweed in the depths of the tide, wrapping around her with a ghost-like presence.
The ambulance arrived quickly.
Bai Wan was ill with a fever of 40°C (104°F).
Yan Nanjue sat leaned back on a sofa, watching the hospital bed not far away. A nurse was changing the IV bottle. Bai Wan’s face was flushed, her delicate and slender frame almost sinking into the blankets.
She frowned deeply, her dry lips moving as if whispering, though her words were unintelligible. For a fleeting moment, her expression was etched with hatred.
The nurse looked at the Omega on the bed, who was as beautiful as the moon, and couldn’t help but steal glances at the Alpha nearby, who was equally stunning but radiant like the sun. Wondering about the relationship between the two, the nurse quietly exited the room.
Yan Nanjue stared at the bed, somewhat dazed, until Assistant Lin pushed the door open, causing her to retract her gaze.
Lin Furuo briefly explained the diagnosis: “The issue isn’t too severe. Three days of IV fluids should lead to a full recovery. There may be some lingering effects like dizziness or pheromone instability, but those will vanish naturally within seven to fifteen days.”
Yan Nanjue nodded slightly, signaling her to leave.
Assistant Lin remained in place, saying tactfully, “President Yan, your clothes are wet. I’ve contacted the butler to have a fresh set sent over.”
Yan Nanjue looked down and realized she was soaked. Her wet shirt clung to her chest, faintly revealing her silhouette—a clear testament to how distracted she had been.
“Fine.”
She changed her clothes and sat by the bed. Bai Wan’s pale face was half-hidden in the shadows. Even in illness, her beauty hadn’t diminished; instead, she looked increasingly fragile and broken, like a piece of fine porcelain.
Yan Nanjue stared at this near-perfect face and unseasonably remembered the original book. After “blackening,” the heroine personally destroyed her own face. She loathed the face that caused her life to be ruined, and she loathed the original Yan Nanjue who loved that face even more.
Yan Nanjue couldn’t help but feel curious. “What do you think the heroine was saying in her sleep just now?”
【System: Cursing you, probably.】
Yan Nanjue: “…”
Refusing to believe it, she leaned in closer.
“Get away… Get… Don’t come near me…”
“Mama… Love… is it…?”
“Go die… lunatics… all of you… Yan Nanjue, get out…”
【System: I told you she was cursing you.】
Yan Nanjue’s heart felt heavy. Just as she was about to pull back, Bai Wan suddenly snapped her eyes open and stared straight at her!
In an instant, Yan Nanjue’s hair stood on end. Like a prey being watched by a predator, her body went rigid as her mind raced for an excuse. However, she realized Bai Wan’s gaze was passing through her, staring at the ceiling. After a few seconds, Bai Wan released her grip on the blanket, her eyelids rolled back, and she fell into a total coma.
Yan Nanjue held her breath for a long time before confirming she had passed out again. She fled the ward like a fugitive and took a deep breath in the hallway.
“Scared the life out of me!”
【System: That’s what you get for being bold enough to challenge fate.】
“I didn’t…” Yan Nanjue muttered.
Midnight, VIP Ward.
Bai Wan opened her eyes abruptly. She threw off the covers, stood up, and ripped out her IV tube. She circled the room once and picked up the phone on the table.
The faint, eerie glow of the screen reflected on her face. Her light-colored pupils were like the deepest part of the ocean—filled with a thick, terrifying darkness, appearing almost inorganic.
She turned off the phone, walked into the washroom, and stared into the mirror for a long time. Then, she raised her hand, her fingertips gently brushing her cheek. In the mirror, a tiny, vivid red streak of blood meandered across the back of her pale hand, like a swaying little snake traveling over her skin.
She uttered a very, very soft “Ah,” sounding either confused or like something else entirely.
Moments later, she stepped into the hallway, approaching the nurse’s station without making a sound. The station was empty. A muted television was playing a financial channel. Bai Wan’s peripheral vision caught something; she looked up.
Yan Nanjue’s face appeared on the screen. The Alpha turned her head like a hunting falcon, her sharp gaze piercing through the crowds and the camera lens. Her beauty burned like a wildfire.
Across the screen, Bai Wan felt as if she were making eye contact with her.
“How can it be…” she whispered to herself, her tone bewildered. “Why are you here?”
The person on the screen couldn’t answer.
A nurse returning from another room spotted her. “Hey! Why did you get out of bed… Your hand! Why did you pull out the tube?! There’s blood everywhere!”
At the Yan Residence.
In a state between sleep and wakefulness, Yan Nanjue suddenly heard a scream in her ear. She sat up by reflex. “What happened?!”
The System was staring at the character attribute panel. The entire panel was shaking violently. The Blackening Value… it was maxed out?!!
Why did the heroine’s Blackening Value jump to 100?!
A massive, blood-red “DANGER” warning pulsed silently. The System was speechless with shock. Yet, in the blink of an eye, the crimson number dropped back to 72.
The System paused. Did I have a detection error? Just now, it was…
Yan Nanjue was tired and anxious. “Did something happen to the heroine?!” She threw back the covers.
The System scanned the value three times. It hadn’t changed. 【How can this be… The heroine is fine. My operating program just had a small glitch. I’ll upload an error report; go back to sleep.】
“I was so scared I’m wide awake now!” Yan Nanjue gritted her teeth.
【System: The heroine’s sleeping pills are in the right-hand drawer of the desk. Shall I find the instructions for you?】
“Do all you systems talk this sarcastically?”
【System: It depends on the individual system’s quality. I’m starting a program check and closing external connections for 1-3 hours. Leave a message if you need me, or hit the ‘Force Wake’ button for emergencies.】
The electronic voice cut out. Yan Nanjue called out twice but got no response. She looked at the panel; the value was steady at 72. She cursed the “late-night disturbance” of a system and eventually fell asleep.
The Next Morning.
Yan Nanjue went to the hospital. Bai Wan was still sleeping.
“Miss Bai woke up once in the middle of the night,” the nurse explained. “She pulled out her IV and went to the hallway. Her state was unstable, so we administered a sedative.”
Yan Nanjue turned her head. “Bring me the surveillance footage.”
The Yan Corporation held shares in this hospital. Soon, the recording was before her. On screen, Bai Wan walked toward the nurse’s station but was captivated by the muted TV for a full minute before the nurse found her. The video was silent.
Yan Nanjue felt a chill. “System, the heroine is acting weird…” The System didn’t respond. Yan Nanjue frowned at the blue-and-white figure on the screen. Something is wrong, but I can’t put my finger on it.
“What was on the TV?” she asked.
“The night nurse said it was just a commercial,” Assistant Lin replied. “Nothing special. The TV is in a blind spot for the camera, so we don’t know exactly what she was looking at.”
“Arrange a full physical,” Yan Nanjue ordered. “Check everything. Send the report to me if there are any issues.”
Bai Wan opened her eyes to the white ceiling and the IV drip.
“Madam, you’re awake?” Assistant Lin, who was waiting nearby, called the nurse.
Bai Wan’s face was cold as the nurse removed the needle. She scanned the room but didn’t see the familiar, sickening figure.
“President Yan went to the office after seeing you this morning,” Assistant Lin said, as if reading her mind. “There is a very important meeting today.”
Bai Wan closed her eyes, hiding her disgust. “Why am I in the hospital?”
“You had a high fever after the rain and have been unconscious for a day and a night.”
Bai Wan couldn’t remember. Her memory of that night was a blur—only the image of Yan Nanjue sitting in the car with her legs crossed and her chin on her hand, looking down at her with that casual, high-and-mighty gaze.
She seemed to remember following her back to the apartment, but nothing after that.
“Did you bring me to the hospital?” Bai Wan asked, pressing her temples.
“No,” Assistant Lin smiled. “President Yan brought you. You fainted the moment you got back to the apartment. I only received the call after you were already admitted.”
Bai Wan’s movement stiffened. Her memory suddenly surged back.
—She remembered now. The moment she collapsed, she had been caught by Yan Nanjue. A split second before losing consciousness, she had caught a glimpse of the panic and tension on the Alpha’s face.
