A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 14
Yan Nanjue breathed a silent sigh of relief. She had used her anger as a pretense to execute her little scheme. Important items like IDs couldn’t be left with the heroine; what if she got triggered and tried to run again?
Inside the study, Bai Wan faced the locked safe, the loathsome gaze behind her feeling as heavy and tangible as a physical weight.
She squeezed her eyes shut. Ever since she decided to run, she had anticipated countless terrible outcomes. Just putting the documents back and returning to her former life wasn’t the worst possible end.
Bai Wan turned around and asked, enunciating every word: “Can I leave now?”
Yan Nanjue, leaning against the door with her arms crossed, gave a slight tilt of her chin.
Bai Wan turned to leave immediately.
Just as she was about to walk away, Yan Nanjue straightened up and called out sharply, “This is the last time, Bai Wan. If there is a next time, I will definitely demolish that building, and you can forget about ever leaving this villa again.”
The Omega froze in place.
With those words, Yan Nanjue turned and headed upstairs, brushing past her and leaving behind a scent that mixed citrus and lavender.
The voice-activated wall lamps dimmed as she departed. In the darkness, Bai Wan’s lips parted slightly as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she only cast a look of pure disgust toward the direction in which Yan Nanjue had vanished.
Regarding Bai Wan’s escape, Yan Nanjue had recorded it as a week of sick leave at the company. However, the heroine seemed to despise staying at the villa; she cut her leave short by four days and returned to work early.
When Yan Nanjue received the report from Assistant Lin, she didn’t care much, simply replying “Let her be” before turning off her phone. As long as the Blackening Value didn’t fluctuate, she wouldn’t interfere with what Bai Wan chose to do.
Yan Nanjue turned her head, her gaze falling on a bar sign through the car window.
Ji Ziyi had organized a gathering. It wasn’t a large group this time—just the three childhood friends and a few socialites, making it a relatively private affair. Having declined so many times before, she truly had no excuse to refuse this one.
Furthermore, she wanted to meet her other two childhood friends besides Luo Shuqing.
The meeting place was still ‘Suhui.’ Most of the young masters and ladies in City A’s social circle loved hosting here. Ji Ziyi was a party-goer, and Suhui was her regular haunt.
Yan Nanjue’s face was highly recognizable at Suhui. The moment she stepped through the doors, a waiter greeted her, whispering politely, “President Yan, Young Master Ji and the others are in the upstairs private suite. Let me lead the way.”
Yan Nanjue didn’t refuse.
As the suite door was pushed open, the sounds of flirting and laughter spilled out.
“Sister Nanjue! You’re here!”
Luo Shuqing spotted her almost instantly. Her eyes lit up as she waved from the center of a crowd.
Yan Nanjue nodded. Seeing that Luo Shuqing couldn’t break away immediately, she scanned the room, her gaze finally landing on Ji Ziyi, who was sitting in a corner of the sofa.
Even knowing Ji Ziyi’s character description from the book beforehand, she couldn’t help but marvel: As expected of the most flirtatious woman in the original story.
Ji Ziyi wore a dark red slip dress. The chiffon fabric shimmered with golden patterns under the lights. She wore a simple bracelet on her right hand and a velvet flower pinned to her low bun. She looked both languid and casual—a beauty of exceptional unruliness.
Sensing she was being watched, Ji Ziyi turned her head and smiled before even speaking. “Oh? The great President Yan has arrived?”
“Where’s Wan-jun?” Yan Nanjue asked, having not seen her during the initial scan.
Ji Ziyi pointed toward the balcony. “Getting some air. She’s a bit dizzy from the wine.”
Yan Nanjue’s gaze followed her finger. At that moment, an Alpha pushed open the balcony door and walked in.
She wore a thin knit cardigan. Her straight, dark hair was partially tucked into her collar, which she didn’t seem to mind, simply smoothing her shoulder. The woman was extremely pale and wore no lipstick; her lips had a natural, faint whiteness. She possessed an icy, snow-like aura that made people only dare to watch from afar.
This was Yan Nanjue’s final childhood friend—Chen Wan-jun.
Ji Ziyi was seductive; Chen Wan-jun was frail and cold. Neither had many scenes in the original plot and were not considered major characters. Yan Nanjue’s gaze paused, sweeping over the two of them before looking back at Luo Shuqing in the center of the crowd.
Luo Shuqing was pretty and popular—the center of attention since childhood. This hadn’t changed even after she presented as a Beta. Her popularity was different from Ji Ziyi’s promiscuity. Chen Wan-jun, on the other hand, loved quiet; her family status allowed her to do as she pleased anywhere.
The four of them had grown up together as the eldest daughters of City A’s wealthiest families. Except for Luo Shuqing, they were all Alphas. Compared to Luo Shuqing, Yan Nanjue preferred interacting with these two.
Ji Ziyi leaned her chin on her hand and smiled. “Look who’s back.”
Before Yan Nanjue could speak, the approaching Chen Wan-jun said, “Move over. You didn’t leave a seat for A-Yan.”
An embarrassed Omega sitting next to Ji Ziyi quickly and timidly moved aside. Yan Nanjue glanced at the girl, a bit confused. Hadn’t Ji Ziyi said this was a private gathering? Why was there an Omega she didn’t recognize?
She looked at Ji Ziyi, who shrugged. “A child from a friend’s family. Doesn’t come out often; she’s shy.”
Chen Wan-jun frowned slightly. “How did they feel safe letting you take her out?”
“What about me? I might not be good with kids, but why shouldn’t they trust me?”
“Don’t you know your own reputation, Young Master Ji?” Chen Wan-jun countered.
Ji Ziyi laughed, her finger tracing her tassel earring, offering no rebuttal. “Fine, I really don’t have much of a reputation.”
Chen Wan-jun turned to Yan Nanjue. “A-Yan, have you been very busy lately?”
Yan Nanjue nodded. “Lots of company business.”
Ji Ziyi took a sip of her drink. Her voice was slightly raspy, which, combined with her low pitch, sounded exceptionally sexy. “You’ve been in the spotlight lately, A-Yan. I heard that Deng Siyuan being sent abroad had something to do with you. What happened?”
“The Deng family didn’t say why, but it seemed to involve your cousin’s birthday party?”
Yan Nanjue saw no reason to hide it and briefly narrated the events. The expressions on the other two were subtle. Ji Ziyi glanced at Chen Wan-jun. “…Because of Bai Wan?”
Yan Nanjue rubbed the cool rim of her glass, answering distractedly, “Yes.”
Ji Ziyi continued, “So, what Xiao Qing said about Bai Wan moving into the apartment and going to work is true?”
Yan Nanjue’s movements paused, her inner alarm bells ringing. Why is Luo Shuqing talking about this? Is she planning to pull something behind Bai Wan’s back?
Absolutely not! If you have a problem, come at me! Don’t target the heroine!
Seeing her silence, Ji Ziyi’s eyes held unmasked shock. “You…”
“What about me?” Yan Nanjue asked.
Ji Ziyi murmured, “You seem to have had a sudden change in personality. Didn’t you used to never care about these things? As long as that face wasn’t damaged, you wouldn’t ask questions. This doesn’t fit your usual style.”
Yan Nanjue didn’t argue. She thought to herself that her “usual style” was never coming back. This mission was impossible; preventing the blackening wasn’t enough—she had to strictly play the role of the cannon-fodder villain too.
Being in such a hateful role made saving the heroine incredibly difficult. She had to be good to Bai Wan without letting Bai Wan realize she had changed. The System’s requirements were truly a pain!
“This is better,” Chen Wan-jun said indifferently. “I told you long ago that twisted fruit isn’t sweet. It’s better for everyone if you’ve realized this.”
“—Sister Nanjue, what are you all chatting about?”
Luo Shuqing had left her companions at some point and walked over, smiling. “I think I heard Sister Bai Wan’s name. Did you invite her here too, Sister Nanjue?”
