A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 15
“I think I heard Sister Bai Wan’s name.”
As Luo Shuqing spoke, she naturally took the empty seat opposite Yan Nanjue, her eyes sparkling as she looked over. “Did you invite her here, Sister Nanjue?”
“She’s resting at home.”
Luo Shuqing’s face showed disappointment. “I see… Sister Bai Wan doesn’t seem to like going out much. I won’t force her then.” Her tone shifted. “What were you all just talking about?”
Yan Nanjue didn’t want her to know the details of the previous conversation, so she said casually, “Nothing much. Ziyi said she wanted to celebrate your birthday at the hot spring resort next month.”
“I’m fine with whatever; if Ziyi wants to go, let’s go. Sister Nanjue, you absolutely have to come. Remember to clear your schedule in advance—you can’t disrespect me on my birthday.” Luo Shuqing smiled sweetly. “Will Sister Bai Wan be able to come this time?”
Yan Nanjue instinctively wanted to decline on Bai Wan’s behalf.
Luo Shuqing tilted her head slightly. “Sister Bai Wan can’t be busy every time we get together, right?”
The pointed nature of her words was too clear, and the goal was unmistakable. Yan Nanjue felt her temples throb.
The atmosphere grew slightly stagnant. Chen Wanjun gave Ji Ziyi a look.
The latter said with a smile in her voice, “Isn’t having us to accompany you enough?” She stood up, walked to Luo Shuqing’s side, and leaned over to gently pinch her cheek. “Do you know how many people out there would kill to have dinner with us? You’re making a profit, Xiao Qing baby.”
Luo Shuqing stared at her silently for a few seconds before looking away, muttering as if nothing had happened, “How many times have I told you not to pinch my face? I’m not a kid; I’m only three years younger than you.” She pulled out a small mirror to check her reflection. “You rubbed my makeup off.”
Chen Wanjun asked, “What do you want for a birthday gift?”
Ji Ziyi teased with a grin, “You better fleece her properly; she’s made quite a lot of money recently.”
The topic was successfully diverted. Seeing that Luo Shuqing was no longer fixated on Bai Wan, Yan Nanjue breathed a silent sigh of relief and took a small sip of her drink.
If nothing else, this drink was perfectly to her taste. The sweet fruit juice and alcohol blended beautifully; it started with a light grape flavor, hit the notes of alcohol in the middle, and finished with a lingering sweetness mixed with a bit of spice.
She whispered internally: System, System, help me find out the name of this drink and record it for me.
【System: Weren’t you just secretly cursing me as a ‘god-awful system’ earlier? Now that you need me, I’m not anymore?】
Yan Nanjue: “…” Forgot the System holds grudges.
“Let me explain… the mission is just too much. The persona I was given is so twisted and perverted, yet I’m required to stop a heroine who hates me to the bone from blackening without going OOC. It’s truly a tall order.”
“I can only secretly change the plot points that trigger her blackening, but a large part of it stems from her hatred for me. You know that too…”
【System: The ‘No OOC’ rule is a Headquarters regulation; it cannot be changed. Without it, a host who just entered a book could easily be detected as an outsider by NPCs. If too many NPCs become suspicious, it disrupts the order of that small world.】
Yan Nanjue was stunned. “The host can’t be discovered as an outsider?”
【System: Yes.】
“But aren’t they just NPCs?”
【System: NPCs are also the foundation of the world’s operation. Every small world has its own order.】
Yan Nanjue half-understood, thinking with a headache: Does that mean I have to go through the entire plot? Change every point that increases her blackening? How long is that going to take… will I even live to see the finale?
Just then, the System spoke: 【Search complete. This drink is called ‘The Banquet Beauty.’】
Yan Nanjue immediately perked up. “System, you’re the best!”
【Focus on the mission.】
Yan Nanjue gave a firm “Mm” and turned back to the three people chatting. She suddenly realized Chen Wanjun was staring at her with a scrutinizing gaze. She returned a questioning look.
Chen Wanjun blinked and didn’t answer, but stood up. “I’m going out for some air and to buy something.”
Yan Nanjue, filled with doubt, hesitated before standing up too. “I’ll go too.”
Leaving the suite, Yan Nanjue saw Chen Wanjun’s back as she was about to turn a corner and called out to her.
“A-Yan?” Chen Wanjun turned her head.
“I need to buy something too. Let’s go together.”
“Alright.”
Yan Nanjue walked beside her, carefully weighing her words. “What were you trying to ask me just now?”
As they walked out of the bar, the wind blew Chen Wanjun’s hair into a mess. She lightly pressed down her bangs. “I was just a bit surprised. You were actually spacing out just now.”
She bought a bottle of pure water from a nearby vending machine, took a pill case from her inner pocket, and swallowed a few tablets.
Under the dim yellow streetlamp, Yan Nanjue looked at her reflection in the vending machine glass and bought a soda. “Spacing out is just a way to relax,” she said.
Chen Wanjun smiled faintly, a smile as fleeting as snow. “Your expression didn’t look like you were just spacing out; it looked more like you were thinking about something. Let me guess… thinking about your wife?”
Yan Nanjue paused. Chen Wanjun’s guess was too accurate.
“I heard a bit about what happened with Deng Siyuan,” Chen Wanjun continued. “You know, her family depends on the Luo family. She targeted Bai Wan to help Xiao Qing vent her anger. A-Yan, punishing Deng Siyuan is fine, but do you know why you’re doing it?”
—To prevent the heroine from blackening, obviously.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t say that. Yan Nanjue frowned slightly, her striking features looking even more stunning. She said indifferently, “I know exactly what I’m doing.”
Chen Wanjun turned around and looked her straight in the eye. “My concern is that you won’t be able to distinguish whether you care about that face… or if it’s become… caring about the person.”
Meanwhile, inside the suite.
Luo Shuqing looked toward the door several times, displeased. “Why haven’t they come back yet?”
Ji Ziyi was playing with tarot cards with someone else. “Wanjun walks slowly; it’s normal for it to take a while.”
Luo Shuqing took out her phone. “Perfect, I’ll ask Sister Nanjue to bring something back for me.”
As the message was sent, a “ding-dong” sounded from a nearby sofa. Ji Ziyi felt under the cushion next to her for a few seconds and pulled out a phone. She laughed, “A-Yan even forgot to take her phone.”
She stood up lazily. “Whatever. Send me what you want on my phone; I’ll get it for you.” After speaking, she casually tossed Yan Nanjue’s phone onto the table.
Luo Shuqing was left alone on the circular sofa. She flipped through the tarot cards with little interest when suddenly, the phone rang.
It was Yan Nanjue’s phone.
Luo Shuqing looked down and saw a name on the screen she did not want to see. She initially planned to mute it and pretend she hadn’t seen it, but her hand paused. Suddenly, a thought struck her. Her finger landed on the answer button and swiped up gently.
“Assistant Lin said your study—”
“Sister Bai Wan, it’s me.” Luo Shuqing’s voice was filled with a smile. “Sister Nanjue’s phone is with me right now.”
