A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 16
Bai Wan’s steps came to a sudden halt.
On the other end of the line, Luo Shuqing’s voice remained laced with a smile. “Is there something you need from Sister Nanjue? You can tell me; she won’t mind.”
“…Business. Tell her to return the call when she has time.”
As Luo Shuqing spoke, her fingertips picked through the scattered tarot cards on the table. Finally, she pulled one out and flipped it over: Judgment.
“I’m afraid that won’t work,” she said, clutching the card. “Sister Nanjue is a bit drunk. We’re at Suhui. Sister Bai Wan, Sister Nanjue said for you to come pick her up. I’ll send you the address. We’ll be done in about two or three hours; if you arrive early, I’m afraid you’ll just have to wait for her at the entrance.”
She hung up without giving Bai Wan a chance to refuse.
Listening to the dial tone, Bai Wan’s gaze darkened. Seeing the call end, Assistant Lin, standing beside her, asked: “Madam, did President Yan say where the document is?”
“Is the document urgent?” Bai Wan asked.
Assistant Lin nodded with a troubled expression. “Only President Yan knows where it is. It’s very urgent; it’s needed for the meeting tomorrow morning. I can’t enter President Yan’s study without her permission. If it’s in a locked cabinet, President Yan might need to come back in person.”
Bai Wan closed her eyes, appearing to loathe the situation before her. The hallway light fell on her thin frame, making her look exceptionally lonely.
“She’s at a bar. Prepare the car to take me there.”
“Your relationship is already terrible. You know I didn’t approve of your methods from the start, but you were too obsessive for any of us to talk sense into you. The result is this current state of mutual hostility.”
Under the streetlamp, Chen Wanjun spoke softly. “Your recent actions make me suspect you’ve started to fall for Bai Wan.”
Yan Nanjue replied without a second thought, “Impossible.” Neither the original body nor she could ever.
Chen Wanjun shook her head slightly. “Besides, she still doesn’t know that the reason you married her was to—”
“She won’t know,” Yan Nanjue interrupted, staying in character.
Chen Wanjun wasn’t annoyed by the interruption. She simply noted, “It seems to be starting to drizzle.”
Yan Nanjue raised her hand, palm up. “Yes.” A drop of rain fell on her cheek, bringing a slight chill.
A hand suddenly dropped onto her shoulder, and a familiar voice rang in her ear: “You two are quite poetic, enjoying the rain or the moon out here?”
Unaccustomed to physical contact, Yan Nanjue’s body went rigid. Chen Wanjun lightly patted Ji Ziyi’s hand. “Hands off.”
Ji Ziyi withdrew her hand with a mix of helplessness and amusement. Only then did Yan Nanjue’s body relax, and she subtly took a half-step back.
“What took you two so long to buy something? Or do you just enjoy standing by the road in the cold wind?” Ji Ziyi asked.
“Just a quick chat. Why did you come out?” Chen Wanjun asked.
Ji Ziyi tilted her chin toward Yan Nanjue. “Xiao Qing wanted A-Yan to help her buy something. A-Yan left her phone on the sofa, so I came out to help her buy it and see why you weren’t back yet.”
Hearing this, Yan Nanjue instinctively felt her trench coat pocket. It was empty. “I didn’t notice.” She frowned. “Let’s finish the shopping and head back. It’s going to rain properly soon.”
The moment they returned to the suite, the drizzle turned into a downpour. The heavy sound of rain hammering the glass was stifling. Yan Nanjue looked out at the blurred neon lights behind the curtain of water. This rain reminded her of the night Bai Wan returned.
“Sister Nanjue, come draw a card too?” Luo Shuqing called out.
Yan Nanjue declined. “No, I don’t believe in that stuff.”
Luo Shuqing looked disappointed but hid it with a smile. “Then isn’t it boring just drinking?”
“It’s fine.”
As someone else called for Luo Shuqing, she left Yan Nanjue’s side reluctantly. Yan Nanjue continued sipping her drink. Beside her, Ji Ziyi leaned back into the leather sofa, her graceful figure sinking in slightly.
Yan Nanjue noticed the shy Omega from earlier leaning in, timidly calling “Sister Ji,” but her voice was drowned out by the noise.
“You want her to draw a card for you?” Yan Nanjue asked, turning her head.
The Omega jumped at the sudden voice. She looked at Ji Ziyi, then at Yan Nanjue, and shook her head quickly. “N-No. It’s raining, and my sister said she’s passing by to pick me up. I wanted to tell Sister Ji I’m going home first…”
“I’ll tell her for you. I’ll have someone see you out,” Yan Nanjue said. Since Bai Wan wasn’t here, she was happy to be a “helpful person.”
“No need, my sister said she’s almost at the door. Thank you.” The Omega checked her phone. “She’s here.”
They were sitting near the door. The suite door was pushed open, and Yan Nanjue looked up to see a familiar face. She paused.
Why is the Devoted Second Lead here?
She looked at the Omega. “What’s your name?”
“Ming Yan,” the girl whispered.
Ming Yue, Ming Yan.
Yan Nanjue “wowed” internally. What a coincidence to run into the second lead’s sister.
As Ming Yan walked toward her sister, Yan Nanjue exchanged a brief greeting with Ming Yue. She was about to turn back when she was stopped.
Ming Yue frowned. “President Yan, it’s raining very hard outside.”
“And?” Yan Nanjue didn’t follow.
“I ran into Mrs. Yan when I came in,” Ming Yue said tactfully. “She seems to have been waiting for you for a long time. Even if it’s a joke, there should be a limit. She is your wife, after all.”
Yan Nanjue was stunned. Bai Wan is at the door? Since when… no, why is she here?
Sensing a disaster, Yan Nanjue bolted downstairs. Sure enough, she saw a familiar figure by the entrance. Bai Wan was holding an umbrella in the storm, but it was useless; her dress was soaked, and the wind outlined her thin frame—like a lonely piece of duckweed.
Thinking back to Ming Yue’s words, Yan Nanjue understood. The original body often did things to torment Bai Wan. She didn’t care about her; she even allowed others to bully her. Anyone in their circle knew this.
The problem was, she hadn’t asked Bai Wan to come!!!!
Meeting Bai Wan’s icy gaze, Yan Nanjue felt her vision go dark.
I’m finished…
