A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 19
Yan Nanjue was so shocked she couldn’t speak for a long while; she didn’t even have the presence of mind to maintain her persona or respond.
Bai Wan closed her mouth, the faint trace of mockery on her face fading as she detoured around the flower bed and brushed past her.
Behind her, Yan Nanjue closed her eyes in weary shock, then snapped them open in disbelief. “System, what kind of ‘wild’ words is she spouting…?”
Bai Wan surely thought far too lowly of her! She clearly just hadn’t dodged in time! How did it look intentional in Bai Wan’s eyes?
【System: Stop worrying about whether it’s low-brow or not; you’re about to OOC.】
Yan Nanjue snapped back to her senses with a jolt. She grabbed Bai Wan’s arm, coldly pinned her against the wall, and snarled, “Have I been giving you too many smiles lately?”
Her tone was sinister. “Bai Wan, you dare speak to me in that tone?”
Forced into a corner, Bai Wan’s gaze was thin and light, her expression gloomy. “What kind of words did I speak?”
“I simply stated the things you’ve done, and you’re already flying into a rage of humiliation?”
“Isn’t Luo Shuqing here for you? She dared to throw herself at you right in front of Grandma; wasn’t that by your silent consent? And now you’re playing innocent in front of me? You always tell me to remember my duties as Mrs. Yan, so let me ask you—Yan Nanjue, have you fulfilled your duties as a spouse?”
Yan Nanjue rarely heard her speak such a long string of words. She laughed out of pure anger. “Bai Wan, you seem to have forgotten your place.”
The distance between them was exceptionally close—close enough for Bai Wan to smell the perfume radiating from her. It was a strong scent of Iris.
And this scent did not belong to Yan Nanjue. It came from Luo Shuqing’s perfume.
Bai Wan furrowed her brows, loathing the heavy fragrance. She struggled to free her pinned arm, saying word by word: “Get away from me. Don’t touch me.”
“Are you ordering me?”
Yan Nanjue shackled her chin, her fingertips pinching Bai Wan’s cheek. Her gaze was icy and dangerous. “Remember this clearly, Bai Wan: I do whatever I want. Even if I stand this close, you have no choice but to endure it. Don’t think for a second that because I haven’t marked you, you are free.”
At the mention of the “Mark,” Bai Wan’s movements halted. Then, her eyes suddenly erupted with a fierce hatred as she glared at Yan Nanjue.
Being stared at with such loathing made Yan Nanjue’s scalp tingle. Internally, she was screaming for help while her brain worked at high speed to figure out how to clarify that she had no interest in Luo Shuqing.
“Luo Shuqing is the second Miss of the Luo family. Using her specifically to humiliate you? You think too highly of yourself, Bai Wan.”
The Alpha’s voice was unmasked mockery, scrutinizing her from above like a piece of merchandise. Bai Wan gritted her teeth so hard she tasted a hint of copper.
“The Yan Corporation isn’t so pathetic that it needs an alliance marriage to sustain its empire.”
As she spoke, Yan Nanjue mentally marveled at her own wit. She increased the pressure on her hand, pinching Bai Wan’s cheeks tightly, and issued a fierce warning: “I don’t want to hear any more of this nonsensical trash. My patience has limits, Mrs. Yan.”
Yan Nanjue withdrew her hand almost impatiently. Her gaze inadvertently swept over the Omega’s cheek; two faint red finger marks had appeared on the soft flesh, standing out vividly against her snow-white skin.
Yan Nanjue felt a sudden, faint pang of guilt. She cast a cold glance at her. “Follow me back.”
By the time they returned to the living room, the red marks on Bai Wan’s face had faded; they were only visible if one looked closely. Yan Nanjue breathed a subtle sigh of relief.
The ancestral home was exceptionally lively today. With Ji Ziyi and Chen Wanjun there, the disaster Yan Nanjue feared didn’t happen, and the afternoon passed peacefully. After dinner, Ji Ziyi even directly hauled Luo Shuqing away.
Yan Nanjue marveled at how reliable Ji Ziyi was—she even provided “after-sales service.”
While waiting for the driver at the door, the remaining Chen Wanjun coughed twice. She pulled out a handkerchief and pressed it to the corner of her mouth, saying indifferently, “There’s lipstick on your cuff.”
Yan Nanjue froze and instinctively looked down. Sure enough, there was a small smear on the inside of her cuff. It wasn’t noticeable unless one looked closely.
“I’m the only one who saw it,” Chen Wanjun said, not explaining the meaning behind her sudden reminder. “The car is here. I’m heading back.”
The night wind was biting, blowing her hair about. She departed like a passerby who didn’t want to be involved in anything. She clearly had no intention of meddling in her childhood friends’ romantic entanglements.
Behind her, Yan Nanjue looked confused. When did that get there?
The answer came when her gaze landed on Bai Wan’s lips. Yan Nanjue’s body went rigid. She realized the red smear had come from Bai Wan (when she pinched her cheeks).
“Holy crap… did Chen Wanjun see me pinning the heroine against the wall?”
Back at the villa, Yan Nanjue spent a long time overthinking before finally falling asleep. When she woke up the next morning, Bai Wan was already waiting in the car.
Unlike the ancestral home, the villa only had one resident driver for daily commutes. If they stayed at the villa, they shared a car to the office. Bai Wan would get off early at a subway station three stops away from the company.
The workday morning felt exceptionally long. Near the end of lunch break, Bai Wan was suddenly called away by her superior.
“A customer specifically wants to see me?” Bai Wan asked, puzzled.
Director Zheng nodded and whispered, “This customer has quite a temper. She’s a socialite from a prominent family. If you can’t handle the design she wants, don’t force yourself.”
He knocked twice and entered the room upon permission. Hearing the door open, the person in the swivel chair tapped the floor lightly and turned around.
Seeing who it was, Bai Wan’s confusion vanished, and her gaze turned cold.
Luo Shuqing smiled brightly. “Long time no see, Sister Bai Wan.”
Director Zheng, who was about to introduce her, paused. “Xiao Bai, you and Miss Luo know each other?”
Before Bai Wan could answer, Luo Shuqing spoke: “More than just know her. Sister Bai Wan is actually…”
Bai Wan’s eyes snapped up sharply.
The office fell into a deathly silence. In that instant, Bai Wan understood the girl’s intent and knew the words she was about to say. Once her identity was made public, her life would be destroyed again; that lunatic would have a reason to lock her back in the villa. She couldn’t have a single trace of a connection to that madwoman.
…Absolutely not.
Luo Shuqing stared straight at her and unhurriedly finished her sentence: “…my senior from school.”
Hearing that the identity she feared hadn’t been revealed, Bai Wan’s clenched hands relaxed slightly.
Luo Shuqing leaned back in her chair, appearing completely relaxed—a stark contrast to Bai Wan’s cold, stiff expression. Luo Shuqing rested her elbow on the armrest and waved her hand dismissively.
“Director Zheng, you may leave. I want to talk to my senior alone.”
The office was soon empty. It was lunch break, and there were almost no employees on the floor; it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Luo Shuqing smiled at Bai Wan. “Sister Bai Wan, why are you looking at me like that?”
She stood up, moving as gracefully as a bird. As if attracted by the bookshelf behind Bai Wan, she approached her and brushed past her shoulder. Luo Shuqing stopped at the shelf and looked up. “I came to ask you to design something for me. I truly admire your talent.”
Aside from her initial surprise, Bai Wan showed no further emotion, quickly reverting to her professional “customer service” attitude. “May I ask what kind of jewelry Miss Luo has in mind?”
Luo Shuqing tapped her chin thoughtfully, her tone light: “A ring.”
“I want a pair of rings. They should incorporate elements of freedom. Most things on the market related to ‘wind’ or ‘sea’ aren’t to my liking. Perhaps you could try something related to the sky… like a soaring bird.”
“Sister Bai Wan probably doesn’t know me well? I like being unique. Whether it’s hair color,” Luo Shuqing twirled a strand of her blonde hair, “or jewelry, my things must be the most special, the one and only.”
Bai Wan’s recording hand paused for just two seconds. She looked up at the smiling Luo Shuqing. “What occasion is this for?”
Luo Shuqing’s red lips parted: “My wedding.”
She added kindly, “I’m in no hurry; you have plenty of time to design. However, I hope you can drop your other projects and focus solely on mine. I can pay you triple your hourly rate for the time you put in. If you feel slighted, name your price.”
“I’m quite picky, so the process will be long—but not too long.”
Bai Wan recorded the requirements calmly, but frowned slightly at the end, looking straight at Luo Shuqing.
Luo Shuqing seemed oblivious to the stare. She looked up curiously. “Is that not allowed? I don’t want my designer serving anyone else at the same time.”
Bai Wan said indifferently, “…No. Miss Luo is very generous.”
Luo Shuqing’s smile bloomed like a peony. “Since it’s for my wedding, naturally I have to spend more time on it.”
Bai Wan asked, “How long do you want to extend the project period?”
Luo Shuqing said: “One year.”
“My wedding is in a year. You have a whole year to design what I want.”
Bai Wan didn’t blink. “Understood. I’ll add your contact information.”
Luo Shuqing pulled out her phone, the white light of the screen reflecting on her chin. “Speaking of which, I want to invite you to my wedding, Sister Bai Wan. You are very welcome.”
“After all, the other protagonist of my wedding,” she smiled like a flower in full bloom, gaudy and piercing, “—will be your current wife.”
