A Scummy Alpha Supporting Character Accidentally Marks the Heroine After Transmigrating into a Book (GL) - Chapter 20
Bai Wan’s eyelashes trembled slightly.
The hand she was using to take notes froze, and she slowly raised her head.
Before her was Luo Shuqing’s face, blooming with a smile. The girl seemed utterly unaware of what she had just said; her expression even carried a hint of confusion. “What’s wrong, Sister Bai Wan?”
“Was there something wrong with what I said?” she asked, even the hand stroking the bookshelf coming to a stop.
The atmosphere in the office dropped to the freezing point. Luo Shuqing walked nonchalantly toward the sofa where Bai Wan sat, her fingertips brushing the backrest like she was stroking flower petals.
“Are you curious why I’m so certain you’ll be divorced in a year?”
Then, she leaned down, bringing her face close to Bai Wan’s, staring directly into those amber eyes that were too beautiful to be real.
“It’s because she told me everything, of course.”
“We grew up together. No one in this world is closer to her than I am—I knew her before Ji Ziyi or Chen Wanjun. There are no secrets between us.”
Luo Shuqing’s tone was flat. “—You’re in a contract marriage. She saves your sister, and you act as her wife for three years. If I remember correctly, the contract ends in a year. You’ll divorce, and she’ll be free.”
“The other protagonist of my wedding will be her. It can only be her.”
She didn’t speak the name, but both women knew exactly who she meant.
Luo Shuqing stared intently into Bai Wan’s eyes, hoping to find even a shred of wavering emotion. However, she was wrong. Bai Wan simply looked at her coldly; her pupils didn’t even flicker.
She was as cold as a statue enshrined in a temple—dignified, indifferent, eyes closed to the world. No matter what suffering the worshipers spoke of, she simply listened in silence, because she was just an image.
A powerless, cold-hearted image.
After a long time, her voice finally sounded in the office.
“I hope you get your wish,” Bai Wan said indifferently.
The smile on Luo Shuqing’s face widened instantly. “Thank you.” Her tone was exceptionally light.
“I truly didn’t misjudge you. Sister Bai Wan, you hate her, don’t you? I’m the exact opposite.”
“I came here not just for your help, but also to confirm this matter. It seems my judgment of people is quite good. I have a bit of a obsession with cleanliness,” she paused, then said word for word, “I hate it when others touch my things.”
“But for her, I can make an exception. She is my only exception.”
Bai Wan lowered her gaze. “I am not interested in your affairs, Miss Luo.”
Luo Shuqing straightened up.
“Fine then, Sister Bai Wan. I also congratulate you in advance on getting your wish.”
Bai Wan tilted her head slightly, as if she didn’t understand what “wish” she was referring to.
Luo Shuqing smiled. “Didn’t you marry her because you were poor? You won’t be poor much longer. That residential building your adoptive parents left you is about to be demolished. That way, after the divorce and leaving the Yan Corporation, you won’t have to worry about money for a while.”
…Demolition?
Luo Shuqing’s words hit home. Bai Wan’s mind went blank for a split second. The pen in her hand slipped through her fingers.
With a clatter, it hit the floor. The sound was magnified several times over, echoing through her world.
Seeing her frozen state, Luo Shuqing gave her a strange look. “You didn’t know, Sister Bai Wan?”
“The document Assistant Lin took from the villa last weekend was the planning proposal. It’s been in Sister Nanjue’s study all along; I thought she told you. Speaking of which, it’s thanks to you that Assistant Lin got the proposal so quickly.”
The document Assistant Lin took…
The news came too suddenly, carrying a destructive force that shattered Bai Wan’s precarious mental world into pieces within minutes. Luo Shuqing’s voice now sounded distant and hazy, as if separated by a layer of glass.
…Yan Nanjue clearly promised her.
Yan Nanjue had promised not to touch that land as long as she returned and stayed by her side obediently. Why go back on her word… Why?!!
Was it another punishment? What exactly did that lunatic want?!
She had already destroyed so much—her life, her career, her dignity… why destroy even this last refuge? She clearly knew that was the only thing she had left…
Luo Shuqing checked her watch. “It was lovely chatting with you, Sister Bai Wan. I have things to do this afternoon. Send the initial designs to my email; I’ll give you feedback.”
She took two steps back, bypassing the dazed Bai Wan. “I’m leaving now.”
Luo Shuqing left the floor with a light step. While waiting for the elevator, she adjusted her hair and sprayed perfume on her wrist; a faint iris scent filled the enclosed space.
When she reached the lobby, she headed for Assistant Lin’s office. “Assistant Lin!”
By the printer, Assistant Lin was talking to a subordinate. She looked surprised. “Miss Shuqing, why are you at the company so suddenly?”
Luo Shuqing said, “I was passing by and thought I’d drop in to see Sister Nanjue. Does she have plans this afternoon? I want to take her to dinner.”
“President Yan? She has no scheduled meetings this afternoon. She just got back from the canteen; I’ll lead you over.”
Luo Shuqing declined with a smile, clearly in a good mood. “Don’t bother, Assistant Lin. I’ll head over myself.”
In her office, Yan Nanjue heard a knock. Without looking up, she said, “Come in.”
The door opened, and an unexpected voice spoke. “Sister Nanjue”
Yan Nanjue looked up, her expression freezing almost imperceptibly. She screamed at the System in her head: “Holy crap, why is the Vicious Supporting Lead here?! Why did Assistant Lin let her in!!”
Bai Wan was working just downstairs. If Luo Shuqing ran into her, Yan Nanjue didn’t even want to think about what would happen…
【System: You gave your other three childhood friends permission to enter and leave your office at will.】
Yan Nanjue had completely forgotten about that. Since the girl was already inside, she couldn’t make an excuse. She suppressed her shock and asked, “Why the sudden visit?”
Luo Shuqing smiled excitedly. “I just dropped by to see you. Also, my mother has prioritized the letter of intent Assistant Lin sent this morning. she wants to schedule a time to talk.”
Yan Nanjue thought for a moment. The Yan family did indeed have a deal to discuss with the Luo family. The document Assistant Lin needed urgently last night was the letter of intent.
She frowned internally. Luo Shuqing came for business?
Thank goodness… I thought she came specifically to cause trouble.
Luo Shuqing then said, “Speaking of which, Sister Nanjue, I ran into Sister Bai Wan on my way here.”
Yan Nanjue’s nerves tightened instantly. She met Bai Wan?! Did they talk? Did they greet each other? This little Green Tea didn’t try to cause trouble, did she…
She frowned slightly, asking casually, “You bumped into her?”
Luo Shuqing nodded. “She was talking to someone I didn’t recognize. I wanted to say hello, but after hearing what that person said, she looked completely out of it and just walked right past me. It’s almost like she doesn’t want people to know we know each other.” Her face took on a look of concern. “Sister Nanjue, I’m a bit worried about her.”
Yan Nanjue hummed internally. Her mind was full of doubt. What happened to Bai Wan? Assistant Lin’s report said nothing special happened this morning.
Luo Shuqing probed further, “Sister Bai Wan hasn’t met any… questionable friends, has she? She’s never adapted well to this environment; maybe she’d make the wrong friends in search of freedom.”
Here it comes! Luo Shuqing was subtly trying to poison her mind against Bai Wan. Yan Nanjue perked up, maintaining her persona. “That is not your concern.”
Luo Shuqing seemed to drop it, changing the subject. “One thing I’m curious about, though—does no one in the company know about your relationship with Sister Bai Wan?”
“No,” Yan Nanjue said. “I don’t like our relationship being the center of attention.”
Luo Shuqing nodded. “I see… Don’t worry, Sister Nanjue, I’ll keep the secret! I’ll tell Ziyi and the others too, so we don’t blow your cover.”
Yan Nanjue didn’t want any more involvement with her. she called Assistant Lin in to set a time for the contract and gave her a look to see the guest out.
Lin Furuo played along. “President Yan, Mr. Li called just now to invite you to the golf course this afternoon. The car is ready.”
“Miss Shuqing, I’m so sorry. Mr. Li’s invitation was sudden; President Yan probably can’t go out with you.”
Luo Shuqing looked unhappy but had no choice but to leave.
Once in the car, Assistant Lin asked, “President Yan, where to?”
Yan Nanjue had nothing to do but didn’t want to stay in the office. She leaned back and closed her eyes. “Back to the apartment. I’m giving you the afternoon off.”
Assistant Lin looked surprised. “What, not enough?” Yan Nanjue asked.
“No, I just feel like you’ve been in a better mood lately, President Yan. Your way of handling things is different from before.”
Yan Nanjue’s heart began to drum. Is Assistant Lin suspicious? Assistant Lin wasn’t a “major character,” but she was a frequent tool in the original book. If she noticed the change…
“Oh?” Yan Nanjue probed.
“You don’t seem as controlling as before,” Lin Furuo said. “You’re more… friendly, and you don’t go out much. You used to never refuse Miss Shuqing’s invitations; you said you treated her like a sister, so you were extra indulgent with her.”
Unlike now, where she seemed to avoid Luo Shuqing like the plague.
“Is that so?” Yan Nanjue said indifferently. “Shuqing has been spoiled too much. She’s lacked boundaries for too long; someone needs to teach her what they are.” She raised her eyes, meeting Assistant Lin’s in the rearview mirror. “People change. You didn’t used to be so talkative.”
Assistant Lin smiled. “True. Then, thank you, President Yan. I’ll enjoy my time off.” She got out of the car.
Yan Nanjue returned to the apartment and ordered an ice cream cake for delivery. When the first bite hit her tongue, she wanted to cry from happiness.
【System: You’re very excited.】
“Skipping work legally to eat dessert at home with no intruders? How can I not be excited!” Yan Nanjue said righteously.
【System: Were you a shut-in before transmigrating?】
“Not really,” Yan Nanjue said through a mouthful of cake.
【System: What did you do?】
“Freelance, I guess. I was a struggling art student, same major as Luo Shuqing.”
A painter, the System thought. It watched as she polished off the small cake in a trance of sugar-induced bliss. 【No one is fighting you for it.】
“It’s so good I wouldn’t even notice if the heroine suddenly blackened!”
【System: . 】
Yan Nanjue immediately spat out some air. “Bad luck! That’s bad luck.”
She destroyed the delivery box to hide the evidence from Bai Wan. She prepared for Bai Wan to come home, but the girl didn’t show.
“It’s 9 PM. Why isn’t she back? Did she run again? Or get into an accident!” Yan Nanjue panicked.
【System: No warning from the monitoring system. She’s still on the plotline. Physical health is fine, but emotions are fluctuating significantly. Why don’t you call her?】
Yan Nanjue scrambled for her phone. The apartment was quiet. She leaned against the sofa and waited for the call to connect. It rang, but no one answered.
Just as the call was about to time out, she faintly heard music. She paused. She moved the phone from her ear and listened.
The sound was coming from outside the door.
Yan Nanjue stood up and walked to the entryway. The music grew clearer. Just a door away, Bai Wan stood with her head down, her pupils reflecting the name dancing on the screen.
She never picked up.
