A Vicious Supporting Female is the Female Lead's Darling (GL) - Chapter 14
Since it was intended for both of them to use, Du Qingqing had specifically bought a large bottle of Essential Balm with a rollerball. It came in a white box and actually felt surprisingly substantial in her hand.
Du Qingqing was quite pleased. As soon as the other girl got into the car, she happily pulled it out to offer it, thinking Su Jimian might even praise her for being so thoughtful.
Who would have guessed that things would go the opposite way? Not only did Su Jimian not praise her, she kept struggling and shouting that she didn’t want it.
It’s just Essential Balm; is such a huge reaction necessary?
Du Qingqing was dazed. She looked at the box in her hand and then at Su Jimian’s slightly reddening earlobes. After a long moment, she suddenly realized something was wrong.
She hurriedly asked the System in her mind: “Oh my god, she didn’t misunderstand, did she?!”
“I suspect so,” the System nodded in response. “She probably thinks you have some… improper designs on her.”
Du Qingqing froze: “But it’s just a bottle of Essential Balm!”
The System coughed: “But it looks exactly like a bottle of lu-bri-cant.”
“If you don’t believe me, look at the size and color of the box. Shake it twice and listen to the sound—it clearly sounds like a small bottle filled with liquid!”
Du Qingqing: “……”
Wait, why are you all so knowledgeable about this?
She sat there stunned, replaying her words and actions from a moment ago. It really did seem quite prone to misunderstanding.
Great. Her “illustrious” reputation was ruined in one day. Not that she had much of one to begin with.
Du Qingqing sighed. After hesitating for a long time, she finally chose to open the box herself, took out the Essential Balm, and held it right in front of Su Jimian’s eyes.
She looked at her pitifully and introduced it with a stiff upper lip: “Es… Essential Balm.”
“……”
Su Jimian looked down, and her face turned red at a speed visible to the naked eye.
They say having too much empathy isn’t always a good thing. Du Qingqing originally only felt awkward, but the moment she saw Su Jimian’s bright red face, her own face flushed crimson as well.
Looking around, there were now two human-shaped red apples sitting in the car.
This was beyond awkward!
Du Qingqing felt silly. Unable to bear the atmosphere any longer, she hurriedly changed the subject. “Mianmian, b-buckle your seatbelt. We’re, we’re heading out now.”
Because she was nervous, she even started to stutter.
“Oh,” Su Jimian nodded in response. She looked down to check her belt and said, “I’m, I’m buckled.”
Du Qingqing: Sigh, two stuttering apples.
“……”
The drive was silent.
Du Qingqing drove forward while privately navigating the awkwardness, occasionally stealing a glance at Su Jimian’s face to observe her tiny expressions.
As time passed, she noticed the other girl seemed to have returned to normal. At first glance, she looked just as quiet and aloof as usual.
Except for her eyes.
Du Qingqing felt that Su Jimian was thinking about something. Her brows were slightly furrowed, her lips pursed, and her face was cold, with a hint of gloom hidden in her gaze.
Could she be unhappy about what just happened?
Du Qingqing immediately turned into a coward and instinctively shivered, shifting slightly away toward her side of the seat.
Unfortunately, the movement was a bit too obvious. Su Jimian noticed the shift instantly and turned her head toward her.
Du Qingqing jumped, not daring to look her in the eye or even take a loud breath.
After a half-second, Su Jimian spoke first. “Is there something the matter, Miss Jin?”
Her voice sounded normal—no murderous intent like Du Qingqing had imagined.
Du Qingqing relaxed a bit and forced a smile. “Nothing, nothing at all.”
“Mianmian, have some chips,” she said, grabbing a bag of potato chips and stuffing it into Su Jimian’s hands. “This flavor is delicious. I used to eat it all the time.”
Having said that, she sat up straight, cleared her throat, and pretended to be a very serious driver, not daring to look at Su Jimian again for the rest of the trip.
Because she was so focused on avoiding eye contact, she naturally didn’t notice the gloom in Su Jimian’s eyes deepening.
Nor did she hear the girl’s lips part to let out a very, very soft sigh.
“Sigh.”
“……”
The car moved quickly and soon arrived back at the fields.
They arrived just as the sun was about to dip below the horizon. Looking out, the horizon was a brilliant, shimmering expanse of gold.
It was breathtakingly beautiful, possessing a soul-cleansing quality. One look, and all unpleasant thoughts were tossed to the back of one’s mind.
Back when Du Qingqing had just lost her parents, her mood was extremely low. She was immersed in grief every day, unable to pull herself out.
Later, a senior from her school told her: “When you’re in a bad mood, watch the sunrise and the sunset. Feel the light and shadow change slowly before your eyes. Feel the passage of time. Sit quietly and think.”
“What do you want? What can you hold onto? What exactly should you do?”
Du Qingqing had actually listened. She often ran to high ground after school to watch the sunset, sitting there for a long time. She wouldn’t just watch the lingering glow on the earth; she’d watch the brilliant starlight that slowly lit up her vision after the glow faded.
Just like now.
Du Qingqing smiled. She instinctively grabbed Su Jimian’s hand and led her to sit on the ridge of the field, tilting her head to gesture for her to look at the sky.
She thought happily: Now I’m passing on what my senior taught me to you. You have to be happy every day from now on.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, she noticed Su Jimian’s lips curl into a slight smile.
She really was happy!
A great sense of accomplishment surged in Du Qingqing’s heart. She smiled and composed another poem in her mind to express her joy. Just as she had the System print it out for her, she noticed Su Jimian slowly opening her backpack and pulling out a notebook and a pen.
Du Qingqing was startled and asked naturally, “Are you going to write a poem too?”
Su Jimian paused, then said softly, “Drawing.”
Oh, right. According to the script, Su Jimian was indeed a talented artist. Later, she would even become a somewhat famous painter.
Du Qingqing realized this and nodded encouragingly. “Draw, go ahead and draw. I’ll admire it from the side.”
As she spoke, she consciously turned on her phone’s flashlight, acting as Su Jimian’s human lamp. Her manner was clumsy yet obedient.
Su Jimian glanced at her from the corner of her eye. After a long moment, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly. She didn’t speak again and immersed herself fully in the creation.
Because she hadn’t expected to see such a beautiful scene, the tools Su Jimian had brought were very basic—just a notebook and a ballpoint pen. Yet, she could still depict the starry sky perfectly. The brilliant points of light connected in the dark night; it was tranquil, beautiful, and surprisingly striking.
Du Qingqing accidentally became entranced. Her expression was even more serious than Su Jimian’s. Even after the drawing was finished, she was still in a daze.
Finally, Su Jimian asked, “What’s wrong, Miss Jin?”
“Nothing, I’m just a bit shocked,” Du Qingqing snapped back to reality. She paused for a few seconds before showering her with unreserved praise. “It’s like an immortal’s painting.”
That might have been a bit of an exaggeration.
Su Jimian smiled but didn’t say anything. She closed her notebook and clicked her pen, preparing to put her tools away.
But before she could unzip her bag, Du Qingqing reached out to stop her.
Su Jimian was puzzled. “What is it?”
“I just wanted to ask,” Du Qingqing said, curling her lips and leaning closer to Su Jimian. Her voice was light and clearly playful. “Do I have the qualification to obtain this ‘immortal’s painting’?”
She actually wanted her drawing. Did she like it that much?
Su Jimian lowered her head and instinctively looked at the notebook. A smile slowly flashed through her eyes.
“Since you said it’s an immortal’s painting,” she said, her eyebrows arching slightly, “it’s not something that can be obtained so easily.”
At those words, the smile on Du Qingqing’s face grew even wider. She stood up, zipped back to the car, sat in the driver’s seat, and triumphantly drove her little car right in front of Su Jimian.
Then she hopped out, mysteriously opened the trunk, and waved Su Jimian over.
“Can we do a trade?” she asked, picking up the bedsheets, duvet cover, pillows, and body wash one by one to show her. “Mighty Immortal, see if there’s anything you want~”
Su Jimian was shocked. She hadn’t expected such a small trunk to hold so many things.
Did you move the entire supermarket back with you?
“……”
