A Vicious Supporting Female is the Female Lead's Darling (GL) - Chapter 15
This was the first time Su Jimian had ever seen someone open a mini-supermarket in their own car trunk.
Are you planning to set up a street stall?
Amused and bewildered, Su Jimian stepped forward. Under the bright, ambiguous glow of the moonlight and starlight, she peered inside.
Immediately, a wave of shock surged through her.
There was truly a staggering amount of stuff.
As Su Jimian looked closer, she realized that besides what Du Qingqing had just shown her, there were all sorts of gadgets tucked deeper inside: hangers, lunch boxes, cups, toothbrushes, detergent, laundry powder…
The various items, large and small, packed the already modest trunk to the absolute limit.
She couldn’t help but wonder why this person had hoarded so much stuff just to drive it around in her trunk. Wasn’t she worried about the gas mileage?
The thoughts of the wealthy were truly difficult to fathom.
Realizing this, Su Jimian slowly shook her head. She looked at Du Qingqing, who was still frantically introducing her wares, and after a moment, the corners of her mouth curled up. She said softly, “I was joking with you just now. My drawing isn’t worth anything; I’m no ‘immortal.’”
“If Miss Jin likes it, just take it. Consider it a thank-you for bringing me to see the scenery,” she said, her gaze scanning the trunk calmly until it landed on a small toy bear lying in the corner. She froze for a split second before continuing, “You don’t need to give me something just for the sake of repayment.”
Her words sounded polite, but they were wrapped in a thick layer of distant formality.
Du Qingqing froze, her movements gradually coming to a halt. She stared at Su Jimian and quickly rejected the proposal.
“That won’t do,” she said. “You worked hard on this drawing. Since you put in the labor, I must give you compensation.”
“Don’t be polite, don’t be polite!” She shook her head and grabbed a bottle of body wash, shoving it into Su Jimian’s hands. “This one is great! It’s a new release, and the rose scent is wonderful!”
“And this! Retractable hangers! They’re so convenient, they suit you perfectly!”
“…”
She forcibly stuffed a mountain of miscellaneous items into Su Jimian’s arms.
Su Jimian was helpless. She finally found a gap to refuse: “I don’t want them.”
Du Qingqing was currently in the middle of a “giving spree,” her feet feeling like they were floating on auspicious clouds. How could she listen to a refusal? The moment the word “don’t” left Su Jimian’s mouth, Du Qingqing looked up and snapped with a fierce frown, “You have to take them! Why are you being so difficult!”
The words were out before she realized what she’d done.
Du Qingqing: !!! Did I just scold Su Jimian?!
She froze, her “cloud-walking” state instantly deflating. She peeked at Su Jimian’s expression and, sure enough, saw a look of utter speechlessness in the girl’s eyes.
In an instant, her fragile “tofu heart” turned ice-cold. She frantically screamed at the System in her mind: “Sys, I’m scared!”
“Fear not!” the System comforted. “I’m here!”
“I’ve already got my little notebook out,” it hummed softly. “If she hits you, I’ll record it as a work injury!”
Du Qingqing: “??? I’m even more scared now!”
She sighed, not daring to talk to the System further. Looking up at Su Jimian, she rushed to make amends. “No, no, I didn’t mean that you were bad.”
“I just wanted to tell you that your drawing is truly excellent. It’s worth every single item here.”
Good, that was a decent save. Back on track.
Du Qingqing nodded to herself. She continued, “I don’t care what others think, but as far as I’m concerned, you’re an ‘immortal’ artist. Your work is perfect and incredibly beautiful!”
“And you need to have confidence,” she said. “Our Mianmian is really, really great. I believe that if you work hard, you will definitely become an extraordinary painter. So, you have to believe in yourself.”
“And… please don’t talk about yourself that way ever again.”
She spoke with an unexpected seriousness and sincerity.
Su Jimian fell into a reflective silence. She didn’t speak for a long time, her eyes remaining fixed on Du Qingqing’s face as if observing her with deep intensity. Du Qingqing felt both shy and a bit frightened under the gaze, but to prove her sincerity, she braved the eye contact for a long, long time.
So long that the night wind began to grow sharp. The chirping of unknown insects grew louder, and the sound of swaying trees in the distance drifted into her ears. Yet, this only served to make the current atmosphere feel quieter—so quiet that Du Qingqing could almost hear her own heart thumping away.
I hope Su Jimian can’t hear it.
Du Qingqing’s face flushed red. She was about to complain to the System to distract herself when the person in front of her finally spoke again.
“How do you know I’ll become an extraordinary painter? Are you that certain?”
Her voice was low, sounding solemn and aloof. Yet, for some reason, Du Qingqing felt she could hear a hidden spark of expectation in her words. It was as if she truly cared about what Du Qingqing had just said.
Du Qingqing nodded firmly. “I just know. I am absolutely certain!”
After all, I’ve read the script, she thought. Su Jimian is definitely going to be amazing in the future. This was a fact she could believe in without a shred of doubt. It was her unconditional faith in Su Jimian’s talent.
Perhaps moved by the absolute conviction reflected in Du Qingqing’s eyes, Su Jimian remained silent. The words she originally intended to say stayed in her throat. After a pause, the corners of her mouth curved up into a faint smile.
She looked at Du Qingqing and whispered, “This is the first time anyone has ever believed in me so much.”
The voice was so small it was scattered by the wind before it could be clearly heard.
Du Qingqing was puzzled: “What did you just say?”
“Nothing,” Su Jimian said, reaching out to pick up a random item and fiddling with it. “I can take any of these, right?”
She’s finally going to accept them!
Du Qingqing was overjoyed. She nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, yes! Take anything you want!”
“Better yet, take them all,” she said, her face beaming with a “simp-like” joy. “I can even provide home delivery service~”
She was playing the role of the devoted admirer to the absolute limit.
Su Jimian smiled but didn’t say anything. Her elegant hands sifted through the items for a moment before landing, seemingly by chance, on the small toy bear. She picked it up and said, “I’ll take this one.”
Actually, that toy was quite expensive. Su Jimian had seen it before and knew its price was anything but low. Swapping a simple sketch for this was a bit of an unfair trade for Du Qingqing. So…
Su Jimian smiled, hugging the bear in her arms. She reached back and gently unzipped her backpack. She spoke again, “Since Miss Jin knows I’m a good artist and that I’ll be a great painter, do you know that I can also perform magic?”
What? I never heard of that.
Du Qingqing was surprised and instinctively shook her head. She was about to ask the System if the script had changed again.
But before she could speak, Su Jimian said, “Close your eyes. I’ll show you one. Think of it as a ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ deal.”
How professional, Du Qingqing thought. She nodded, and seeing that Su Jimian was in a good mood, she honestly closed her eyes. She heard the girl count down: “Three, two, one.”
When she opened her eyes, an unexpected new drawing was in front of her. This time, it wasn’t the starry sky; it was a dignified and beautiful woman with long, jet-black wavy hair, almond eyes, red lips, and a slender swan neck.
Isn’t this… me?
Du Qingqing was stunned. It took her a while to recover. “Where did this come from? When did you draw it?”
But no matter how she asked, Su Jimian only gave a short answer: “It was magic.”
Du Qingqing had no choice but to believe it. She reached out to take the drawing to admire it, but she noticed a corner was missing. It looked like it had been intentionally torn off; the edge was uneven, and upon closer inspection, there were faint ink marks around it. It looked like something had been written there previously.
Curious, Du Qingqing asked about it, only to receive Su Jimian’s reply: “That’s because my magic ran out before the spell was finished.”
Du Qingqing: “…” Fine, whatever you say.
Du Qingqing was delighted to have received two drawings. Seeing that it was getting late and not wanting to disrupt Su Jimian’s rest, she hurriedly drove her back.
Only after watching her enter the dormitory did Du Qingqing finally feel at ease to return home. As soon as she got back, she pinned the two drawings in the most prominent spot in her bedroom so she could admire them at all times.
She didn’t know that Su Jimian was doing something similar.
For the first time ever, the girl moved her highly sentimental-looking music box aside. After wiping the desk with a tissue, she placed the toy bear she had traded from Du Qingqing on the table.
Finally, she pulled out the scrap of paper she had been clutching in her palm since the ride home—the one with the name “Jin Ruge” written on it. She smoothed it out and gently tucked it into the toy bear’s ear.
Having done all this, she stood up to get ready for bed. But before leaving, she didn’t forget to pat the bear’s head and flick the little scrap of paper with her finger, saying with a smile:
“Goodnight, Ruge.”
