A Vicious Supporting Female is the Female Lead's Darling (GL) - Chapter 6
A few days of absence, and Jin Ruge’s change was unexpectedly massive.
Zhang Xinyuan watched with his own eyes as she walked into a shabby convenience store—a place she would normally never step foot in. She pushed the door open with ease, and without a hint of heiress arrogance, she curled her lips into a brilliant smile toward the cashier standing inside.
Zhang Xinyuan paused. He felt like he could read three parts kindness, three parts friendliness, and three parts intimacy from her expression.
He even inexplicably sensed a few parts of… “simp” behavior.
Zhang Xinyuan: “???”
A bit dazed, he looked at Jin Ruge, then at his little sidekick, and then reached up to feel his own forehead.
Temperature is normal; no fever.
He pinched his cheek. It hurt, proving he wasn’t dreaming.
So, it wasn’t him who was sick—it was definitely Jin Ruge!
Baffled, he took a few steps forward and stood behind Du Qingqing, his face tense as he listened to their conversation. However, when he recognized that Su Jimian was the same “flyer girl” he had encountered by chance that other day, he couldn’t help but freeze and instinctively curl his lips into a smile.
He had intended to greet her, but unexpectedly, she didn’t even spare him a glance.
Zhang Xinyuan felt somewhat awkward. He cleared his throat, shifted his posture, and continued to listen with a stiff face. He even took the opportunity to instinctively poke Du Qingqing’s arm, whispering, “What exactly is going on?”
Du Qingqing was currently anxious to explain herself to Su Jimian and had no time for him. Her tone was hurried and cold as she told him, “We’ll talk later!”
The moment she said that, Zhang Xinyuan’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Was Jin Ruge… snapping at him?
They hadn’t seen each other for just two days; what on earth had caused her to turn into this? You have to know, in the past, she wouldn’t even say a harsh word to him.
Zhang Xinyuan blinked, feeling that the Du Qingqing before him was simply unreasonable. He stared at her profile for a long time but couldn’t squeeze out a single word.
Left with no choice, he let out a soft huff, turned away, and leaned against the doorframe.
He acted as if he didn’t care at all, yet his eyes couldn’t stop darting back toward them, his gaze filled with resentment.
Du Qingqing: “…” Is he mentally ill?
The System chimed in: “I think he is.”
“I think so too.” Du Qingqing thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement with the System’s assessment.
In the original script, the Male Lead was set up as a “growth-type” character—the kind who is annoying in the beginning but becomes very inspirational later. The wealthy young master gives up his family fortune for love, bravely breaks his shackles to start from scratch, and finally achieves fame and success to marry the beauty.
It sounded decent, but that was all in the future. At least for now… he still looked like the same familiar idiot.
Du Qingqing sighed. She really couldn’t look after so many people. Since she could barely save her own skin right now, she chose to temporarily ignore the Male Lead.
She quickly turned her face back and continued to apologize to Su Jimian, saying she truly had no intention of causing trouble.
“I’ll take my people away right now.” She gave a fawning smile and hurried to the door to dismiss the thugs. Then, she stepped back inside and politely asked if they had broken anything so she could compensate them at full price.
“It’s nothing,” Su Jimian said. Perhaps because there were others present, her tone sounded relatively gentle and polite. “Miss Jin, you can leave now. After all, the apology has been made and the misunderstanding cleared.”
“We are even.”
The subtext was clearly that she wanted to cut ties completely.
The smile on Du Qingqing’s face froze. She paused, and seeing that Su Jimian was about to turn and leave, she hurriedly spoke up again to fight for a chance: “How can that be enough?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Hearing her sudden remark, Su Jimian instinctively turned her head. Her beautiful brows furrowed slightly, her lips pursed, and her gaze was sharp as she stared unblinkingly at the person before her.
She looked as if she were saying: Please, start your performance. I want to see what kind of flowery words you can come up with.
Du Qingqing felt an invisible pressure. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath to settle her thoughts before speaking. “The main thing is that I was immature before and caused you too much trouble.”
“I know you are magnanimous and don’t hold a grudge, but I really can’t let it go.” She said, even leaning forward a few steps to show Su Jimian the dark circles under her eyes—the ones she got from staying up talking to the System. “I was so full of self-reproach that I didn’t sleep all night.”
Su Jimian: “Oh? Are you sure it wasn’t because you stayed up late chatting or playing games?”
Du Qingqing: “…” Why are you exposing the truth like that?
“Haha,” she gave a dry laugh, forcing herself to keep praising her. “You sure are humorous.”
“But please believe me, I am truly remorseful, so I really want to make it up to you.” As she spoke, she glanced up at the somewhat messy shelves. “How about I stay and help you organize things?”
“Or if there’s something else you want me to do, that’s fine too.” Du Qingqing clutched her chest in a dramatic display of “heartache.” “Otherwise, I really won’t be able to live with myself. My heart is in such agony!”
After all, looking around the convenience store, there wasn’t any heavy labor to do. Tidying shelves wouldn’t take much effort. Plus, it would provide more opportunities to spend time with Su Jimian, which would be a huge help in completing the mission. Why not?
Du Qingqing’s mental calculator was clicking away, thinking her plan was foolproof. Seeing that Su Jimian didn’t reject her again, she hurriedly and very proactively turned to start organizing.
However, she didn’t get far before Su Jimian suddenly reached out and grabbed her.
Du Qingqing quickly turned back. “What’s wrong?”
Before she could finish, she met Su Jimian’s meaningful gaze. Then, she heard her let out a soft, light laugh. “Is Miss Jin sure she wants to stay and help?”
Du Qingqing felt like something was wrong. She froze for a full three seconds before saying uncertainly, “Sure.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, the smile in Su Jimian’s eyes deepened. She tilted her chin slightly, pointing toward the door.
A small delivery truck was parked right at the entrance. Inside, cases of mineral water, drinks, and instant noodles were stacked box upon box.
Du Qingqing was stunned. She turned back to Su Jimian with wide eyes. “Ah… this.”
Su Jimian smiled. “Then it’s been hard on you, Miss Jin.”
Du Qingqing: “…”
Since she had dug the hole herself, she had to fill it, no matter how much she complained internally.
Left with no choice and unwilling to miss the chance to be near Su Jimian, she had to roll up her sleeves and cheer herself up in her heart: Do it!
She rushed outside and started lifting. Zhang Xinyuan’s jaw almost hit the floor.
What on earth is wrong with her!
Confused and curious, Zhang Xinyuan forgot about being snapped at earlier and followed behind Du Qingqing. Just as she hauled the first case of water into the shop, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her behind a shelf without letting her speak.
He asked sternly, “What is wrong with you? Why are you degrading yourself like this!”
“What?” Du Qingqing raised an eyebrow. “How am I degrading myself?”
“A dignified eldest miss of the Jin family, instead of going shopping, getting your nails done, or enjoying yourself, you come here to do manual labor for others—and you say that’s not degrading?” Zhang Xinyuan was bewildered. “Did you burn your brains out with a fever?”
“You call this degrading yourself?” Du Qingqing immediately criticized his view. “Haven’t you heard that ‘the laboring people are the most glorious’? Your level of consciousness is clearly lacking.”
“Furthermore, I don’t have a fever, and my brain isn’t burnt.” She waved him off, indicating she was busy. “To be honest, it’s probably because I’ve reached a complete epiphany.”
Epiphany? More like you’re insane!
Zhang Xinyuan clicked his tongue, still holding onto Du Qingqing to keep her from leaving. However, his tone changed from his previous manner to the “gentle” style that the original Jin Ruge loved most. He told her, “Ruge, let’s go back. This really isn’t the place for you to stay.”
“I don’t know what has happened these past few days or what you’ve been through, but I still hope you’ll listen to my advice. I’m truly doing this for your own good.” He said, “The outside world is too chaotic. You are too young and naive; I just want to protect you…”
Wake up, I was born a day earlier than you!
Du Qingqing almost rolled her eyes. She sighed, feeling that the Male Lead’s brain was really lacking. She was just about to explain things to him further when suddenly, the System called out in her mind:
“DANGER!”
“Where?!” Du Qingqing, having died four times already, had defensive awareness and reaction speeds far beyond a normal person’s. She reacted the instant the System spoke.
She looked up and saw a shelf diagonally above Zhang Xinyuan had come loose. The bottles and cans on top were about to roll down and smash onto his head.
At the critical moment, Du Qingqing reached out and braced the shelf, finally preventing the tragedy.
“What’s going on?!” Zhang Xinyuan was startled. He looked back, his hair standing on end and his heart pounding. He said almost instinctively, “That was way too scary…”
“Scary, right?” Du Qingqing raised an eyebrow, her eyes narrowing slightly as her red lips parted. “So, when you’re out and about, pay attention to protecting yourself.”
“I won’t trouble you to worry about me anymore,” she said. “Little brother.”
