Accidentally Picked Up a Rich and Amnesiac Alpha (GL) - Chapter 21
Mr. Jin gave a look to one of his subordinates, and two men immediately moved to push Yan Qingqi.
Song Tingxue was afraid she would be hit. “Mr. Jin, my assistant is inexperienced. It’s a small matter. Please don’t take it personally.”
Just then, Mr. Jin’s phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he instantly transformed into a completely different person, bowing and scraping as he took the phone to the side to answer. “Mr. Jiang, what a surprise to hear from you… This, this, I really didn’t know. I truly didn’t know. My apologies, my apologies…”
Mr. Jin quickly returned, his attitude toward Song Tingxue completely changed. “Miss Song, I’m sorry. I drank too much today and said some terrible things. Please don’t take it to heart. Weren’t you going to the hospital? Please, go ahead.”
Song Tingxue didn’t know who made the call, but it clearly had a noticeable effect.
Song Tingxue said, “Mr. Jin, I apologize, but my assistant is here to pick me up. I’ll take my leave now.”
“Please, go ahead.” Mr. Jin was utterly deferential, smiling flatteringly. He then yelled at his subordinates, “Are you blind? Why aren’t you pressing the elevator button?”
When the elevator door opened, Mr. Jin bowed and scraped again, inviting Song Tingxue and the “pathetic little Alpha” assistant to get in.
In a private room far down the hallway, Qiao An glanced at the scene, turned, and walked into the room where Jing Michu was sitting. She smiled. “Your phone call was very effective. That fat, ugly guy behaved himself.”
“How dare he not?” Jing Michu sneered. “In L City, everyone gives face to Mr. Jiang. That Jin Fuwang is just a petty boss. How dare he curse at my cousin! If I don’t make him suffer a loss of three or five hundred million, I wouldn’t be doing him justice!”
Qiao An sat down across from her. “What about your cousin?”
Jing Michu said, “She should be fine today. I’ll go see her again tomorrow.” Jing Michu softened her voice. “You’ve been running around with me for most of the day. Eat something. It’s late-night supper.”
The food at the hotel was decent, nothing special, but Qiao An was hungry and ate several bites.
They were the only two in the private room. In the quiet, undisturbed environment, Qiao An’s heart calmed down. She secretly glanced at the Alpha sitting next to her.
Jing Michu thoughtfully served her food, gentle and attentive, just like before.
Qiao An wanted to ask several times, “Don’t you have anything to say to me?” But remembering that Jing Michu was completely focused on her cousin’s situation, she swallowed the words each time.
After the late-night meal, Jing Michu offered to take her home. “Where do you live?”
“I’m staying with my friend, over on Xiangxue Road, Xiangxue Court.”
The roads were clear late at night, with no traffic or many red lights. The drive was smooth.
Just as Qiao An was thinking about whether to invite Jing Michu up to her place for a moment, the car arrived at Xiangxue Court.
“We’re here. Is this it?”
“Yes, this is it.” Qiao An got out of the car and couldn’t help but say to Jing Michu, “I know you’re very worried about your cousin, but we’ve found her now, so you don’t need to worry so much. Go back and get some rest.”
Jing Michu’s eyes were shadowed with fatigue. Qiao An could tell she hadn’t slept well for several nights.
“Thank you,” Jing Michu paused, looking as if she had something more to say. “You… you take care of yourself.”
“I will.”
Qiao An nodded and started walking into the complex. As she walked, she suddenly remembered something.
Today, she had accompanied Jing Michu only to find her cousin. Now that her cousin was found, there seemed to be no reason to meet her tomorrow.
Qiao An pursed her lips, realizing again that they had broken up.
As for the reason they broke up, it seemed a little ridiculous now.
There was no third party, no cheating, no parental opposition, and their love hadn’t faded or grown weary.
Their breakup felt more like a joke, a tantrum.
That day, Jing Michu had come home late and tossed her jacket onto the sofa instead of hanging it in the place Qiao An had specified.
That day was also the first time Qiao An had tried to cook. She had spent three hours preparing a table full of food, burning her hand in the process, all to surprise her girlfriend with a romantic evening.
But Jing Michu had texted her very late: [Eating out. Will be home late tonight.]
Qiao An quietly packed up all the food, leaving only a plate of chicken wings. She waited on the living room sofa until Jing Michu came through the door close to midnight.
“You’re back.”
“Mhm. Why didn’t you go upstairs and rest? I told you I’d be late.”
Jing Michu casually tossed her jacket onto the sofa.
Qiao An frowned. “How many times have I told you not to throw your clothes everywhere?”
Jing Michu suppressed her impatience and hung the jacket where Qiao An wanted.
“Come, try this chicken wing.” Qiao An picked up a grilled chicken wing and held it out to Jing Michu’s mouth.
Jing Michu turned her head away. “I already ate.”
“Just try it. See if it’s good.”
Jing Michu frowned. “I’m not eating. I’m not hungry.”
“Just try it, just one bite.”
In the back and forth, the chicken wing touched Jing Michu’s face, leaving a greasy mark on her pale cheek. Jing Michu instantly lost her temper. “Qiao An, what the hell! I told you I wasn’t eating! Why are you forcing me to eat it? Also, what’s wrong with leaving my clothes on the sofa?! Why can’t I leave them on the sofa? I want to leave them on the sofa!”
Jing Michu was like an exploding balloon. She rolled up her sleeves and sat down on the sofa in a huff. “So many rules! Aren’t you tired of it?! Isn’t it annoying?!”
That was the first time in their three years of dating that Jing Michu had lost her temper. Qiao An was stunned. Tears welled up in her eyes. “Are you saying I annoy you?”
Jing Michu didn’t look up and said stiffly, “That’s not what I mean.”
Qiao An said, “That is exactly what you mean! I annoy you! You’re getting tired of me!”
Jing Michu’s temper flared. “I said that’s not what I mean! Why are you letting your imagination run wild?”
“You clearly do!”
“Qiao An, can you be rational for once? I said no, so why are you being unreasonable?”
“I’m being unreasonable? Jing Michu, you’re finally speaking your mind. You’ve been annoyed with me for a long time, tired of me, and you’re starting to find fault with everything I do, aren’t you?”
Jing Michu laughed angrily. “Fine, fine. So, in your mind, this is what I really think.”
“Isn’t it? Since you find it annoying, then let’s not be together anymore. Let’s break up.”
Jing Michu said, “Qiao An, that’s going too far.”
“I’ve gone too far? I told you not to throw your clothes everywhere, and you say I’ve gone too far?”
Jing Michu was distraught. “Can you stop clinging to that one thing?”
Qiao An stared at her with bloodshot eyes. “You’re the one who said my rules were too much and that I annoy you.”
“Enough!” Jing Michu grabbed her coat and walked out. “You want to break up? Fine, we’ll break up!”
That day, Jing Michu really left. Qiao An was so angry that she immediately went to the room to pack her bags. She stuffed clothes into her suitcase, tears streaming down her face, and left with her luggage.
And just like that, they broke up.
Without warning, with anger and grievance, they went their separate ways.
Jing Michu never came looking for her, and she was equally stubborn and never went looking for Jing Michu.
Qiao An later wondered more than once if she really was too demanding, causing Jing Michu to get annoyed and not be able to stand her anymore.
It wasn’t until last month that her cousin called her. Her cousin had likely just found out they had broken up.
“Little An, I’m so sorry I’m only calling you now. Xiaochu kept it a secret from me. I asked her a few times why she hadn’t brought you over, and she lied and said you were busy all the time.”
“Actually, that night, she was truly exhausted. There was an issue with a product, a competitor seized the opportunity to steal a big order, and their stock price dropped. The foreign client she was waiting for that day had a four-hour flight delay. She was probably too tired and not in a good state. Please understand. But regardless, it was wrong of her to lose her temper at you.”
“I remember your birthday is next month. Should we have dinner together to celebrate? Of course, if you have a new girlfriend now and it’s inconvenient, I understand. Xiaochu didn’t cherish you properly.”
Qiao An agreed, knowing her cousin wanted to create an opportunity to bring them back together. But before her birthday, her cousin disappeared.
“An An, wait a minute!”
The clear voice behind her was tentative, piercing the silence of the night. Qiao An turned and saw the person had caught up to her.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. It’s too late. It’s not necessarily safe inside the complex either. I’ll walk you to your door.”
Qiao An didn’t refuse.
They walked side by side on the complex path. The light from the streetlamp stretched their shadows long, and a few times, the two long shadows crossed paths.
“I’m here.” Qiao An stopped at the entrance of her building. “My friend and I live on the 15th floor. Do you want to come up for a bit?”
“No, it’s too late. I won’t bother you and your friend.” She was proper and kept her distance.
Qiao An lowered her head and let out a soft “mhm.” The small hope she had secretly held onto was shattered.
“Um, are you two happy together?”
“Very happy. She’s moving to her boyfriend’s place overseas at the end of the year.”
Jing Michu nodded. “Alright, you go on up.”
Watching Qiao An walk into the lobby and press the elevator button, Jing Michu seemed to make up her mind and quickly followed her in. “Are you free tomorrow?”
“Hmm?”
“My cousin… she’s in this state… I’m afraid I can’t handle it alone,” Jing Michu finally came up with a clumsy excuse. “How about you come with me to see my cousin tomorrow?”
Jing Michu’s heart was pounding with nervousness and expectation, just like the first time she had asked this beautiful girl out to dinner.
The elevator arrived. The door opened with a ding.
Qiao An didn’t step in right away. She turned and smiled at her. “Sure.”
Jing Michu was overjoyed. She gave a radiant smile, completely lighting up. “Then get a good night’s sleep. I’ll pick you up at 10 tomorrow.”
“Okay!”
Watching Jing Michu leave happily, Qiao An’s lips curved, and her eyes sparkled. She was smiling even as she stepped into the elevator.
After a few seconds, she belatedly realized the elevator hadn’t moved. Qiao An, her face flushed, pressed the button for the 15th floor.
Tomorrow, they would meet again, just like a date from the past!
