After Attending School A, I Differentiated into an Omega - Chapter 3
The Next Day
Qin Fengyue slept until the sun was high in the sky. The calendar by her bed showed that the summer holiday countdown had begun.
She picked up her phone from the floor and opened the QQ app; the class group chat history showed thousands of unread messages.
Qin Fengyue: “?”
She opened her private chat with Chu Yang. There were over thirty messages. With sleep-deprived eyes, she skimmed them briefly, then concentrated and re-read them from bottom to top.
“…”
Qin Fengyue: “Since when did I become a ‘scumbag Alpha’ who abandons Omegas?”
She was sitting on the edge of the bed recording a voice message when Fang Yi pushed the door open. “Yue-yue?”
“Wait a sec—I need to make a call first—” Qin Fengyue held up a palm.
“Get your butt down here right now!” Qin Dong’s roar erupted from downstairs.
Qin Fengyue: “…”
On the way to the hospital, Qin Fengyue endured a tidal wave of spit and fury from Qin Dong. She was lectured into a daze; when she got out of the car, she nearly couldn’t stand straight.
The group headed straight for the City Hospital. Seeing the familiar gates, Qin Fengyue suddenly remembered something and opened WeChat.
The messages were still stuck on her last outgoing record from yesterday.
This Omega is so “tsundere”! Qin Fengyue tapped away at her phone.
[Good morning~]
Jiang Zhao had just finished paying the final hospitalization fee and went to the window to collect An Su’s medicine. She hadn’t brought her phone, leaving it on the bedside table in the ward.
When the phone vibrated, An Su was tidying up the nightstand.
Jiang Zhao never set a password on her phone. As the message popped up, An Su saw it at a glance.
[Good morning~ I’m the one who exchanged cash with you yesterday.][What’s your name? :P]
To anyone else, the wording would seem affected and pretentious. But to An Su, the sender seemed like a very cute Omega. She smiled, glanced at the door, and couldn’t resist tapping on the phone.
[Jiang Zhao.]
The other side: [I’m at the hospital again, but I brought enough money today! Thanks for yesterday.]
An Su tried her best to mimic Jiang Zhao’s tone and replied with a simple room number.
Replying directly with a room number?
Qin Fengyue was delighted. This Omega had suddenly become very smooth!
Suddenly, Qin Fengyue bumped into Qin Dong’s back.
“Dad?”
The isolation area was quiet. Several doctors in white coats and masks stood outside the door.
Qin Fengyue blinked. “The isolation room?”
At that moment, Chu Yang—who had been eating “gossip melon” until midnight and finally woke up—sent a message.
[Liu Mei is in heat.][Her mom said in the group chat last night that because of you, Liu Mei refused to take suppressants. It got so bad she was taken away by an ambulance.][Since you didn’t speak up, I watched Liu Mei’s mom almost single-handedly ruin your reputation!][Luckily, your fan club was strong and broke through her defense. Finally, she contacted the homeroom teacher, and Old Zhang notified your parents.]
Qin Fengyue: “…”
The isolation room door opened. Mother Liu was helping Liu Mei walk out. Liu Mei’s eyes lit up when she saw Qin Fengyue.
“Fengyue!”
Mother Liu glared. “Is this your attitude? Coming only after the isolation period is over.”
Qin Dong: “I think the timing is just right. Coming earlier would only lead to misunderstandings.”
Mother Liu froze. “Parent Qin, what do you mean by that?”
Qin Dong stepped aside to reveal Qin Fengyue behind him. “Explain it yourself.”
Qin Fengyue narrowed her long eyes. Looking at the sobbing Omega before her, she said, “Auntie Liu, I came here because I hope you will clarify the things you said in the class group last night.”
“…” Liu Mei twisted her fingers together.
Mother Liu: “What do you mean!”
Qin Fengyue: “I mean that Liu Mei and I have no relationship whatsoever. Pinning such a huge label on me—that I caused her to be hospitalized for her heat—isn’t that a bit too despicable?”
The yet-to-differentiate Alpha let a thin, cold smile play on her lips, as if watching a joke.
Mother Liu had thought Qin Fengyue was here to apologize and pay compensation. She didn’t expect this fledgling Alpha to look more like she was here to demand accountability!
A nurse chimed in: “Little girl, is that true? This classmate was calling your name all night long!”
Qin Fengyue: “Liu Mei and I are just classmates.”
Liu Mei’s body went limp as she cried, “Fengyue, I… I really, really like you—”
Liu Mei and Qin Fengyue were classmates. She had pursued Qin Fengyue during their sophomore year, but her previous two confessions had been deftly deflected.
Qin Fengyue never imagined that besides being clingy, Liu Mei also liked to fabricate their “love history” everywhere. There were many rumors inside and outside school. Half of her “scum” reputation was thanks to Liu Mei.
Although Qin Fengyue loved to flirt, she had a bottom line. Even a rabbit doesn’t eat the grass near its own burrow!
As for yesterday’s Omega fight, it was also Liu Mei who had initiated the provocation.
Qin Fengyue was generous toward Omegas, but that didn’t mean they could treat her like a soft target. “Liu Mei, if you’ve forgotten, then I am officially rejecting you one more time right now.”
Liu Mei’s face turned pale; she was about to start crying again.
Qin Fengyue: “I’ve said my piece and I’ve apologized. Now, go into the group and tell the students and teachers the truth.”
Liu Mei: “…Tell them what?”
Qin Fengyue looked at her, brow furrowed slightly, before waving her hand helplessly with a lopsided smile. “Tell them to clear my name, obviously. Clarify that we are not in a relationship.”
“Xiao Zhao?” “What are you looking at?”
Jiang Zhao was standing at the end of the corridor. Dr. Lin, with a medical file tucked under her arm, leaned over from behind her. “Oh… it’s Qin Fengyue.”
“You know her?” Jiang Zhao asked.
Dr. Lin laughed. “Didn’t you look at her questionnaire yesterday?”
Jiang Zhao raised an eyebrow. “She’s that Alpha?”
Dr. Lin: “Quite Omega-like, isn’t she?”
Jiang Zhao found it amusing but didn’t say much. The isolation rooms and An Su’s ward were on the same floor. The isolation zone was for Omegas in heat and Alphas in their rut; it was also where people came to differentiate. It was rumored to be a hotspot for disputes and gossip.
“Qin Fengyue! What do you mean by this!” It must have been the mother of the Omega who just finished her heat, screaming at Qin Fengyue at the top of her lungs.
Jiang Zhao withdrew her gaze. “Dr. Lin, I’m going downstairs to get the medicine.”
Dr. Lin nodded. “Go ahead. By the way, after you get the medicine, ask your mother to stop by the third floor before you leave.”
“Okay.”
Just as Jiang Zhao left, Qin Fengyue called out to Dr. Lin.
“Morning, Dr. Lin,” Qin Fengyue said, a phone pressed to her ear. She asked casually, “What are you doing here?”
Dr. Lin pointed to the other side of the hallway. “Going on rounds. Is that Omega your girlfriend?”
Qin Fengyue shook her head, then said into the phone: “…Yes, please deliver it to Room 601… Yes, for a girl named Jiang. Tall, slender, hot figure, absolutely beautiful face.”
The more Dr. Lin listened, the more something felt off. Room 601, surname Jiang?
Qin Fengyue hung up. Dr. Lin struck up a conversation. “Who were you calling?”
The little Alpha said, “I ordered a bouquet of flowers.”
“What kind of person are you sending flowers to?”
Qin Fengyue just smiled and didn’t answer.
Dr. Lin: “‘Hot figure, beautiful face.’ You’re quite the wordsmith.”
Qin Fengyue chuckled. “Do you know her?”
There really was such a person; she was one of the rarest beauties Dr. Lin had seen in her career. Looking at Qin Fengyue, Dr. Lin figured her habit of flirting with everyone she met was acting up again. Dr. Lin thought to herself: Forget the fact that Jiang Zhao is an Alpha—even if she were an Omega, there’s no way she’d give Qin Fengyue a second look.
“Give it a rest.”
Qin Fengyue didn’t understand what she meant. Behind her, Qin Dong urged her to head back. She asked, “By the way, regarding that questionnaire yesterday… what on earth did you talk to my dad about?”
Dr. Lin looked at Qin Fengyue’s retreating back. “Oh, I just used a little bit of ‘exaggerated rhetorical devices’.”
Qin Fengyue: “…”
By the time Jiang Zhao finished the paperwork, half an hour had passed. An Su had packed her luggage and was chatting with a fellow patient. On the nightstand sat a cluster of bright roses, their petals glistening with dew.
“Whose flowers are these?” Jiang Zhao asked.
An Su smiled. “Look at your phone.”
Jiang Zhao picked up her phone. After reading the messages, she frowned. “Mom…”
An Su laughed heartily. “This little Omega is quite interesting.”
Jiang Zhao corrected her: “That’s an Alpha.”
An Su: “…” A wave of belated awkwardness hit her.
Jiang Zhao: “What’s more interesting is that she sent roses.”
An Su promptly shifted the blame. “You were in such a good mood yesterday, I thought you’d had a romantic encounter. I was just trying to help you maintain your rare ‘peach blossom’ luck.”
Jiang Zhao: “That’s an Alpha, and I’m an Alpha too. Or do you just happen to like sixteen-year-olds?”
An Su was an Omega. It took her two seconds to process Jiang Zhao’s words before she snapped, “What nonsense! You even dare tease your own mother.”
Jiang Zhao estimated the cost of the flowers and transferred the money to the other person. “Let’s go.”
An Su: “But the flowers…”
Jiang Zhao swung her backpack over her shoulder, scooped up the roses with her long arms, and took the elevator down with An Su. She walked straight to the trash can at the hospital entrance.
An Su: “Xiao Zhao!”
Jiang Zhao stood straight as a pine, the bouquet in the crook of her arm. She lowered her eyes, her long lashes fluttering, and let the roses drop straight into the trash.
An Su sighed. “My daughter’s first time receiving flowers in her life.”
Jiang Zhao added a final blow: “And they were sent by an Alpha.”
An Su: “…”
Qin Fengyue was playing with her phone. Chu Yang had sent her a link. Inside was a “check-in thread” for all the Omegas Qin Fengyue had flirted with at United Middle School.
Real people, fake ones, and bystanders all left their footprints in the thread. Because of the Liu Mei incident, the thread had been bumped back to the top and was nearly 2,000 floors high.
Qin Fengyue: “…”
Qin Dong, in the driver’s seat, glanced at her. “I’ve discussed it with your mother.”
Qin Fengyue looked up. “Hmm?”
Qin Dong: “It’s your senior year; studies are the priority. I’ve contacted the principal of the Independent Alpha School. We’re going to handle your transfer paperwork tomorrow.”
“Why didn’t you discuss this with me!?” Qin Fengyue’s scalp tingled. Independent Alpha School! The city’s most famous “monk temple” (all-male/all-Alpha school)!
Qin Dong: “There’s no discussion. What were you doing in the inpatient department just now? That whole building is for Omegas. Who were you there to see?”
Qin Fengyue muttered: “…What’s there to see? They’ve already been discharged.”
“I really underestimated you. Even a trip to the hospital gives you a chance to flirt at every turn.”
She argued the whole way home—crying, screaming, and threatening to hang herself—but Qin Dong remained unmoved. He was dead set on sending her to that “monk temple.”
Qin Fengyue gritted her teeth. She had finally met an Omega who suited her perfectly in every way except for height. She had just “fallen in love,” and now she was facing a long-distance relationship?
She opened her phone. A new transfer record had appeared in the WeChat chat history.
What a cute, unpretentious little Omega, she wouldn’t even accept the flowers for free.
Exhausted, Qin Fengyue wanted to chat with the little Omega.
[Are the flowers pretty?][Message sent, but rejected by the recipient.]
Qin Fengyue: “?”
[Hi?][Jiang has enabled friend verification…]
It wasn’t a long-distance relationship. Qin Fengyue had just experienced a breakup at the speed of light.
