After Awakening, The Vicious Male Supporting Character Refuses the 'Bad Ending' Script - Chapter 2
Hearing those words, the joy in Su Yin’s heart was beyond words. He nodded several times, repeating Pei Weixue’s “Mm” in the same tone like a giddy teenager. “Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.” It was soft, a bit reserved.
“You!” Pei Weixue raised a hand in mock annoyance, and Su Yin took off running. Pei Weixue immediately gave chase. “Gou Yin! Stop right there!” His legs weren’t as long as Su Yin’s; as a fashion designer, Su Yin acted as his own model, and his physique was as perfect as a supermodel on a catwalk.
The wind caught the hem of his shirt, offering a glimpse of a tight waist and the defined curves of his abdominals.
Meanwhile, Pei Weixue’s head was filled with nothing but the desire to catch Su Yin and pin him to the ground for mimicking him. But no matter how he chased, he couldn’t catch up. Su Yin ran too fast. His physical stamina wasn’t as good as Su Yin’s, but for some reason, after running for a while, Su Yin seemed to lose steam and slowed down. Unable to brake in time, Pei Weixue slammed right into him, and the two rolled onto the grass together.
“Are you okay?” Pei Weixue was cushioned on top of Su Yin. He propped himself up on the ground. “Are you hurt?”
Su Yin patted the ground beside him. “I’m fine. Lie down and enjoy the breeze with me.”
Pei Weixue didn’t suspect a thing and lay down beside him, looking up at the starry sky.
The summer night was filled with the sound of cicadas, the rustle of the breeze, and the distant chatter of students exercising or walking on the playground. It was both noisy and silent. Pei Weixue felt immensely relaxed; it had been a long time since he had looked at the stars with such peace.
It was a feeling he’d only had since meeting Su Yin.
So…
“Yin-ge.” He was exactly one year older than Su Yin.
He turned his head to meet Su Yin’s surprised gaze and called out again, “Yin-ge.”
Su Yin grinned and rolled onto his side to look at him. “You’re very happy today, huh?”
Pei Weixue nodded, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly. “Mm. Yin-ge, thank you. And thank Auntie for me.”
“Since you called me ‘brother,’ then my mom is your mom. Let’s become sworn brothers like in the Peach Garden!” Su Yin pulled Pei Weixue up, excited to swear an oath. He glanced around. “Oh no, no peach garden.” Seeing two large banyan trees nearby, he pointed. “Let’s swear by the banyan trees then. From today on, I’m your big brother.”
It was nonsense, but Pei Weixue followed him to the banyan tree anyway. They lit three matches, and after Su Yin mumbled a long incantation, he asked, “Was that fun?”
Pei Weixue nodded.
Su Yin wrapped an arm around him and said, “Since you call me ‘brother,’ I’ll call you Xue’er.” He had wanted to call him that for a long time. Pei Weixue’s skin was as white as snow; he looked good in any color. The first time Su Yin saw him, he was wearing purple pants and a red shirt—an absurd combination that still couldn’t hide his handsome features.
Pei Weixue blinked unnaturally and gave a small nod. “Okay.”
Later, Su Yin would always track his schedule to take him out during their free time. They played games, climbed mountains, and looked at the sea together. He took him to play basketball, and they sat together under the big banyan tree by the playground—one drawing design drafts, the other working on web designs. They shared everything, and Su Yin frequently brought him home for dinner.
Because of Su Yin, his episodes almost stopped. His mental state recovered quickly, and he nearly stopped taking his maintenance medication. Su Yin gave him a pair of contact lenses to assist with his treatment, and finally, during his junior year, he gradually began to see colors.
He still remembered the moment he saw color again.
The piercing sunlight hit his eyes. Pei Weixue slowly opened them, reaching for the remote to close the curtains. He didn’t notice the color of the sun or the room at first. Instead, his gaze locked onto a pair of brownish-amber eyes, his own reflection shimmering in the pupils.
“Yin-ge.” He saw the deep red of Su Yin’s lips, the healthy glow of his face. The corners of those eyes were crinkled in a smile as Su Yin asked, “You’re awake. I got up in the night and saw your door was open. I went to close it but saw you’d kicked off your blanket. I suddenly got a burst of design inspiration, so I stayed in your room to draw. You’re not mad, are you?”
He had been sitting quietly on the floor by the bed, drawing slowly. Sometimes he spent ages on a single detail. Time had flown by until dawn, and when he heard movement on the bed, he turned around.
Pei Weixue called out “Yin-ge” again. He sat up and grabbed Su Yin’s hand. “I can see colors.”
Su Yin didn’t register it at first. “What did you say?”
“I said, I can see colors. Yin-ge, your eyes are brownish-amber.” Pei Weixue thought to himself: So beautiful. So intoxicatingly beautiful. Su Yin practically jumped into the air, only to whack his head against the ceiling lamp. He let out a yelp and clutched his head. In a panic, Pei Weixue jumped off the bed barefoot to help him. “Where did you hit? Where does it hurt?”
Su Yin wailed for a second, then grabbed Pei Weixue’s wrist, ignoring his own injury. He pointed to the tree outside the window. “What color is that?”
“Yellow leaves, brown branches.”
“And—and that sports car? What color is that?”
“Red.”
Su Yin fired off a dozen questions before running out and back again, holding a plate of sliced kiwis. “What color is this?”
Pei Weixue smiled gently at him and pointed. “Yellow flesh, red center.”
“Oh my god!” Su Yin set the plate down and scooped Pei Weixue up by the waist, spinning him around. “You really see it! That’s amazing! Woohoo—!”
He was as excited as if he were the one who had been cured. Pei Weixue draped an arm over Su Yin’s shoulder and quietly hooked his legs around Su Yin’s waist. Yin-ge, thank you.
He also remembered graduation. Su Yin had dragged him to that same banyan tree that held so many memories. Clutching a love letter, he said nervously, “Weixue, I like you.”
Pei Weixue looked down at the letter and then at Su Yin. Large eyes, a straight nose—his features were striking and bold, decorated with a carefree air that masked his underlying nerves. When Pei Weixue raised his hand, Su Yin’s heart leaped into his throat. His eyes widened further until Pei Weixue took the letter and said, “I like you too.” Only then did Su Yin look relieved, followed immediately by a wave of joy as he lunged forward to hug him. “That’s great! That’s great!”
Pei Weixue stumbled back from the impact, his hands frozen in the air. He looked at the letter, a faint smile appearing as he leaned down, his lips lightly brushing the top of Su Yin’s hair. He could see the deep blue of the sky and Su Yin’s amber eyes. To him, this was a treasure.
After letting him down, Su Yin pulled him in for a photo. They both made peace signs at the camera. Behind them was the playground, beside them the banyan branches, and above them the night sky with the moon hanging high, casting silver light on their heads.
Seducing Snow (Gou Yin Da Xue): [Image] I have a partner, don’t be jealous.
“Is that WeChat nickname a bit…” Pei Weixue leaned his head against Su Yin’s to look at the phone. The nickname made him see stars.
Su Yin said proudly, “I’m already being subtle. I could be more direct. Xue’er, let’s move in together tomorrow, okay?”
Pei Weixue pursed his lips. “Haven’t we… already been living together?”
“I mean in the same room.”
After Su Yin posted to his Moments, the comment section exploded. So many people messaged him that his hand went numb from the vibrations. Only then did he hear Pei Weixue’s voice—it was too soft. He leaned his ear closer. “What did you say?”
“Okay.” Pei Weixue hooked his arms around Su Yin’s neck, his eyes curving into crescents. “I’ve wanted that for a long time, Yin-ge.”
Su Yin asked teasingly, “Wanted what?”
Pei Weixue’s hand moved toward Su Yin’s collarbone. “To sleep with you. To be yours.”
Su Yin whispered in his ear, “My ‘big blade’ has been thirsty for a long time.”
They played games together often; it was a line from a hero in a game, but in this context, it was incredibly suggestive. Both of them laughed.
But….
Almost the very next day, without any warning, Su Yin’s passion suddenly vanished.
Opening the bedroom door, Pei Weixue bumped into Su Yin, who was dressed sharply. He knew Su Yin was going to see He Nan again. Suppressing his heartache, he spoke: “Don’t go looking for him anymore.” Before he could finish, he was cut off.
“What does it have to do with you?” Su Yin looked down as he buckled his watch. His shirt was tucked into his suit pants, cinched by a belt—not tight, but loose enough that the sunlight hitting the fabric revealed the lines of his body. “If you have time, sign the divorce papers.” He walked toward the door, but someone grabbed him. He turned to meet eyes filled with sorrow. For a split second, he dithered, but he quickly composed himself and sneered, “What? Looking for a screw?”
Watching the color drain from Pei Weixue’s face, he pushed him away cruelly. “Get lost. Someone like you? I wouldn’t even give you a second look. All day long you’re just a lifeless shell staring at code, not a bit of charm in you.”
“Su Yin.” Hearing the ugly words, Pei Weixue’s heart throbbed with pain. “What did I do wrong?” Why had it turned into this?
Su Yin turned and took two steps back toward him. He raised a hand and patted Pei Weixue’s chest, his chin held high. “Don’t give me that pathetic, begging look. I don’t love you. I’ve said it hundreds of times, but you just can’t seem to remember.” He was entirely out of patience. “Three more days. If you don’t agree to the divorce, I’m moving out and suing you.”
He turned to leave. Pei Weixue tried to grab him, but could only watch as the sleeve slipped through his fingertips.
The door opened, and Su Qingyue was standing there. “Are you going to see He Nan again?” She was carrying a bag of kiwis. If she hadn’t come, she didn’t know how heartbroken Pei Weixue would be.
Su Yin remained defiant. “I’m an adult; why are you controlling me? What’s wrong with me seeing him? If you’re that bored, go find a partner yourself. Stop watching me.”
“You!”
“Su Yin!” Pei Weixue rushed to Su Qingyue’s side, patting her back. He said reproachfully, “Su Yin, how can you talk to Mom like that?”
“Fine then, just act like you don’t have a son.” Su Yin watched as his mother struggled to catch her breath, his expression unchanging. “I’m going to see He Nan.” He looked at Pei Weixue. “I just hate you. You’re the one being a masochist by refusing to divorce.” Then he looked at his angry mother. “And you! Stop lecturing me.”
Slap!
The loud sound of a slap cut Su Yin off. He rubbed his stinging cheek, the resistance and coldness in his eyes swirling together once more. Finally, he said, “Finished? Feel better? Then can you move out of the way?” He shoved past them both and left.
Behind him came Pei Weixue’s terrified cry: “Mom! Mom!” Su Yin’s frame stiffened. His head throbbed, as if something were being suppressed. His chest felt tight, and tears he didn’t understand welled in his eyes. He wanted to turn back, but instead, he disappeared quickly through the doorway.
