After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 11
“Minister Li, the reason I came to see you is to ask about the spring outing the day after tomorrow. When I was compiling the list, I noticed that the Omega employees in the company don’t seem very willing to attend. Since the Tech Department has the most Omegas, I came here first to check. I wanted to ask them directly, but as you saw just now, they’re quite resistant to me. If I were to ask, it might not only be difficult to communicate but could also lead to misunderstandings, so I was hoping you could help me out.”
Xia Zhiyu watched Minister Li’s expression the entire time she was asking. Minister Li showed no panic at the question; instead, he looked surprised and shook his head. “Secretary Xia, I hadn’t noticed this issue because I always choose not to participate myself.” He took out his phone and showed Xia Zhiyu his WeChat chat history, which contained private messages from his tech employees asking for leave because they had personal matters and couldn’t attend the outing.
“I don’t participate because of personal matters, too. I finally get a couple of extra days off, so I’m taking my child to my parents’ place for two days. Putting myself in their shoes, I figured they must also have important personal matters, so I never asked them for the specific reasons. However, since you need my help, Secretary Xia, I’m certainly willing to assist.”
Xia Zhiyu reflected on her conversation with Minister Li as she took the elevator to the floor of the HR and Finance departments.
The HR department was closer to the elevator. As Xia Zhiyu walked past, she heard a voice inside exclaim, “Ah, ah, ah! That fish just made the rich, handsome Omega from the Tech Department cry!”
Xia Zhiyu: “…” Is this what they mean by bad news travels fast? But this is way too fast.
Xia Zhiyu knocked on the door from outside. Only after someone inside said, “Come in,” did she push the door open.
The HR employees were in an uproar, ready to gather and curse Xia Zhiyu, but the next second, the subject of their anger appeared directly in front of them.
There was a silence of more than ten seconds in the office. Everyone stared at Xia Zhiyu, their minds blank, as if they had forgotten how to speak.
Xia Zhiyu smiled and asked, “What’s wrong, everyone? You look scared. Am I really that terrifying?”
Yes, you are, everyone thought internally.
The older employee, who had seen a few big scenes, was the first to recover and spoke up. “Secretary Xia, what brings you here? Is it another archive change?”
She just made one person cry; surely Secretary Xia isn’t still feeling unsatisfied and wants to make another person cry here, right?
Xia Zhiyu shook her head. “No archive change this time. I’m looking for Minister Yu. Is she in?”
The older employee secretly breathed a sigh of relief. “What bad luck. Minister Yu just went to attend a meeting on behalf of our department. She probably won’t be back for an hour. Secretary Xia, since your time is so limited, why don’t you focus on other work and come back in an hour?”
Ah, ah, ah, well said! Get rid of that fish quickly! everyone mentally cheered.
Unfortunately, Xia Zhiyu did not comply with their wishes.
She said, “It’s fine that Minister Yu isn’t here. I can talk to you, Sister Zhou.”
Xia Zhiyu found it amusing to watch Sister Zhou’s suddenly slack jaw. She added, “You must not be busy. I think I heard you all chatting when I arrived.”
Sister Zhou’s scalp went cold. Minister Yu wasn’t there, so she had been speaking without a filter, and now she had walked right into Xia Zhiyu’s line of fire.
Is there anyone in the world unluckier than me?
No!
“I’ll wait for you outside.” Xia Zhiyu said, leaving the HR department without giving Sister Zhou a chance to refuse.
Xia Zhiyu gently closed the HR door. The junior employees inside immediately lowered their voices to comfort and cheer up Sister Zhou.
“Sister Zhou, you didn’t even mention her name just now, and maybe she didn’t hear clearly what you said.”
“Exactly, Sister Zhou. You’re a core employee in HR, and you’ve been at the company for several times longer than that fish. Don’t be afraid of her. Show her the powerful attitude you used to protect us!”
Sister Zhou: “…” I could be confident before because I was in the right. Now, I was caught badmouthing someone behind their back. The situation is completely different. It’s really hard to be tough now.
Sister Zhou adopted a posture of brave sacrifice and deliberately used a humorous tone to ease the younger employees’ worries. “I’m going. Remember to collect my body.”
Sister Zhou pushed the door open, her expression turning serious. She walked up to Xia Zhiyu, feeling nervous, and her voice was a little weak. “Secretary Xia, what is it that you wanted to ask me about?”
Xia Zhiyu smiled and patted Sister Zhou’s shoulder. “Relax. It’s just a simple little question.”
Instead of relaxing, Sister Zhou became even more nervous.
Xia Zhiyu had to get straight to the point. “Sister Zhou, do you know why the Omegas in our company aren’t willing to attend the annual company spring outing?”
Sister Zhou was slightly taken aback that this was all she wanted to ask.
Xia Zhiyu explained, “I overheard the words of comfort they gave you just now. I can tell you’re very trustworthy in the eyes of the younger employees. They must be willing to share things with you.”
Sister Zhou was horrified. She could hear us through a closed door and with such a low voice? Did she put a wiretap in our office?
“I’m just kidding,” Xia Zhiyu laughed. “Why are you so nervous? Don’t worry, even if I did hear it, I wouldn’t be angry.”
Sister Zhou: “…” Don’t scare people like that.
However, after Xia Zhiyu’s scare tactic, Sister Zhou felt slightly less nervous.
“Secretary Xia, what did you ask just now? Could you ask again? I was too nervous to pay attention.”
Xia Zhiyu repeated the question.
Sister Zhou composed herself and said, “Oh, it’s about the spring outing. I probably have some insight into that.”
“Secretary Xia, you should know that our Ruan Group has the most Omega employees in the country, even the world. This is all because our CEO is Ms. Ruan.”
“Many people stereotype Omegas as inherently delicate and incapable of doing the work that normal people can do. Many Omegas are indignant but can’t refute it, because due to biological factors, they do need to take regular leave and can’t endure frequent overtime. But that doesn’t mean they are inferior to others. They can achieve the same work as others in less time by improving their work efficiency.”
“Ms. Ruan’s appearance proves that Omegas can also do many things that Alphas cannot. They join the Ruan Group because Ms. Ruan is their guiding light. They admire Ms. Ruan and want to be close to her.”
Xia Zhiyu asked, puzzled, “I know all of this, but what does it have to do with the spring outing?”
Sister Zhou said, “It has everything to do with it. Ms. Ruan isn’t attending the spring outing, so they naturally want to follow Ms. Ruan’s example and work instead.”
Of course, there was a more important reason she didn’t mention: while Ruan Wu wasn’t going, Xia Zhiyu and some Alpha employees from branch companies would be there. They were arrogant, looked down on Omegas and Betas, and were always trying to get close to them. It was disgusting and impossible to avoid, so it was better to skip the outing and enjoy some peace.
Xia Zhiyu nodded. “Thank you for the information.”
She could tell that Sister Zhou hadn’t told her everything she knew, and the untold truth was likely related to her, which was why Sister Zhou couldn’t speak openly.
Considering what the original “Xia Zhiyu” had done in the past, Xia Zhiyu already had a good idea of what it was about without needing to ask.
Having obtained the main reason, Xia Zhiyu paid a visit to the Finance Department. The employees there looked at her not with the previous caution, but with a mix of awe and curiosity.
Xia Zhiyu didn’t understand why. After asking an older female employee, she returned to the CEO’s office.
Ruan Wu hadn’t seen her for a long time. Seeing her return, she frowned and asked, “Where did you go? Is the spring outing list finalized?”
Xia Zhiyu had gotten used to Ruan Wu’s cold face. She walked over and asked, with a tone of having discovered a great secret, “Ms. Ruan, do you know that all the Omegas in our company came here because of you?”
“I know,” Ruan Wu said coldly.
“Huh?” This was something Xia Zhiyu hadn’t expected. “How do you know that?”
Ruan Wu looked at her as if she were an idiot. “I look at the resume of every employee who joins the company. Not only Omegas, but half of the Beta employees also consider me their idol.” She disliked Alphas, and all Alpha employees had been transferred to branch companies. Xia Zhiyu was the only Alpha currently in the main office.
Ruan Wu narrowed her eyes at Xia Zhiyu. If Xia Zhiyu weren’t still useful, she wouldn’t even be in front of her right now.
Xia Zhiyu: “…”
Why did Ruan Wu’s eyes suddenly turn a little scary? What did I say?
