After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 19
Xia Zhiyu breathed a sigh of relief when all the Omegas had left. Before Ruan Wu could speak, she said thankfully, “I’m so glad you came back for me, Ms. Ruan. I was incredibly embarrassed just now.”
“Embarrassed? What was embarrassing for you?” Ruan Wu narrowed her eyes at Xia Zhiyu. She suspected Xia Zhiyu was caught close to violating the agreement and was trying to find an excuse to absolve herself.
Xia Zhiyu had clearly been smiling just now; Ruan Wu hadn’t seen any sign of embarrassment.
“You don’t know, Ms. Ruan, but the Omegas in the company don’t like me very much. They only stopped to talk to me just now because I’m your secretary. Didn’t you notice how red their faces were from being startled by me? Their voices were quiet and trembling, and they barely dared to look at me, but when they talk to you, their eyes sparkle and they look directly at you. They see you as an idol, so they naturally behave that way. Their behavior toward me is completely different. I find it difficult not to be embarrassed.”
Xia Zhiyu spoke with genuine emotion, even sighing afterward, as if she were truly troubled.
Ruan Wu: “…” Is Xia Zhiyu being serious?
She seemed to be serious, actually.
Ruan Wu was momentarily silent. She never expected Xia Zhiyu to be so dense when faced with the attention of others.
Or is it because she has already fallen for me, and her entire heart is focused on me, causing her to subconsciously block out the emotions of others?
Thinking of this possibility, Ruan Wu’s cold gaze softened, and her heart rate quickened slightly. But she couldn’t reciprocate Xia Zhiyu’s feelings. She could only look away and change the subject. “Let’s go. The banquet is about to start.”
“Okay, Ms. Ruan.”
Ruan Wu walked ahead. Xia Zhiyu quickly moved to her side. The faint scent of Alpha pheromones drifted to Ruan Wu’s nose. The cool breeze of the spring night failed to cool Ruan Wu’s body and, instead, added an extra layer of warmth.
Ruan Wu pursed her lips and said, “Stand on my other side.”
A flicker of confusion crossed Xia Zhiyu’s eyes, but she didn’t ask for the reason. She agreed and moved to Ruan Wu’s other side.
Ruan Wu could finally no longer smell her pheromones, and her slightly raised body temperature gradually went down.
However, a disturbed mind is difficult to calm down.
“You just said that the Omegas in the company don’t like you. Why is that?” Ruan Wu hadn’t paid much attention to Xia Zhiyu when she was a Beta, but as her secretary, she was competent at her job, had a promising career, and her looks were impeccable. Ruan Wu couldn’t understand why the entire collective would dislike her.
Xia Zhiyu hadn’t expected Ruan Wu to bring up this question, and her mind immediately stalled.
Why did I volunteer the information that I was unpopular during my explanation? How should I explain myself now?
Telling the truth was definitely out of the question; Ruan Wu would think she was crazy.
But what if I don’t tell the truth?
“Ms. Ruan, I told you I owe a debt because of some issues. You know I’m an orphan, and I didn’t have anyone to consult when I ran into trouble. That amount of money was too huge for me at the time. I happened to read some incorrect statements online and believed them, which led me to do some inappropriate things.”
“What statements did you read, and what did you do?”
Ruan Wu seemed determined to get to the bottom of the matter.
Xia Zhiyu uncomfortably averted her gaze. “Ahem, it was about finding a rich marriage partner to pay off my debt. But I had no experience pursuing people, so I just…”
Xia Zhiyu couldn’t continue.
Everything the original “Xia Zhiyu” had done was practically jumping on Ruan Wu’s pet peeves.
“So what?”
Ruan Wu was immediately filled with displeasure when she heard that Xia Zhiyu had pursued others. She wanted to see how Xia Zhiyu had pursued people before, and whether she was as thoughtful and compliant as she was in her pursuit of Ruan Wu (?).
“It was some immature and naive methods. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have offended Yu Qingyi and the others. I know I was wrong, Ms. Ruan. Can you please not ask anymore?” Xia Zhiyu pleaded. If she continued, she was truly afraid Ruan Wu would immediately break the contract and fire her.
Ruan Wu’s dark eyes had already iced over again. Yu Qingyi again. So Xia Zhiyu had pursued him before.
After Xia Zhiyu finished speaking, Ruan Wu didn’t ask any more questions. Xia Zhiyu felt slightly relieved. She glanced sideways at Ruan Wu’s expression—it was perfectly cold, as usual.
Ruan Wu was not someone who would hold back her anger, so since she hadn’t lashed out now, she probably wouldn’t hold it against her later.
The two arrived outside the banquet hall. Zhao Sheng and the other two, who were chatting in front of the entrance, turned around simultaneously when they heard footsteps. Seeing Ruan Wu in her snow-white gown, all three looked mesmerized. “Ms. Ruan, you’re finally here.”
The three immediately walked toward Ruan Wu. As they got closer, they caught a faint scent of Alpha pheromones on the wind, and their brows instantly furrowed.
Yu Chou’s face darkened. “Ms. Ruan, did you just have close contact with an Alpha?”
Yu Chou was overwhelmed by jealousy, and his voice was full of envy.
Zhao Sheng’s expression was equally displeased.
Ke Miao was the deepest and most composed of the three. She didn’t rush to question Ruan Wu, instead looking at Xia Zhiyu next to her and the two muscular bodyguards behind her.
Ke Miao twitched her nose and suddenly looked at Xia Zhiyu, her gaze sharp as electricity.
“Are you an Alpha?”
Only after asking did Ke Miao notice Xia Zhiyu’s appearance. Her skin was set against the black gown like pale snow, her red lips were seductive, and her figure was stunning, completely overshadowing Ke Miao, a female Alpha herself.
Ke Miao’s face also turned ugly.
Alphas usually suppress their pheromones. You can only smell them when you are very close to their neck. But if there is wind, the Alpha’s pheromones will mingle with the air.
“What is your intention for pretending to be a Beta to get close to Ms. Ruan?” There was no wind at noon, and she was a certain distance from Xia Zhiyu, so she hadn’t noticed she was an Alpha. Alphas naturally repel each other. She could only coexist peacefully with Zhao Sheng and Yu Chou because they shared the same goal. She wouldn’t be polite to Xia Zhiyu.
Zhao Sheng and Yu Chou also realized this now and immediately glared at Xia Zhiyu, clearly treating her as someone with improper intentions toward Ruan Wu.
Zhao Sheng tried to grab Xia Zhiyu, but Ruan Wu stopped him.
“President Zhao, calm down.”
Zhao Sheng was incredulous. “Ms. Ruan, you’re stopping me for her? Did you already know she was an Alpha?”
The people Ruan Wu sent to the branch companies were still collecting evidence. She didn’t want to tip them off yet. She said gently, “Secretary Xia was indeed a Beta before. She only underwent a secondary differentiation into an Alpha about half a month ago after drinking a glass of wine for me and getting drunk. All the employees in the head office know about this.”
Zhao Sheng was still dissatisfied. “An Alpha has never been near you, Ms. Ruan. She’s dangerous to have around. Why haven’t you replaced her?”
Xia Zhiyu gently moved Zhao Sheng’s finger, which was almost touching her nose. Because I’m being sponsored by the person of your dreams. You should be jealous.
Ruan Wu glanced coolly at Xia Zhiyu. “Because Secretary Xia differentiated at a very old age, and the differentiation is incomplete. She poses no threat to an Omega.”
Zhao Sheng and the other two immediately looked at Xia Zhiyu for confirmation.
Alphas are proud and value saving face. No Alpha would tell others they are incapable unless they truly were and had to admit it.
“…Ms. Ruan is telling the truth.” A look of humiliation flashed across Xia Zhiyu’s face as she spoke. “I hope the three of you don’t misunderstand Ms. Ruan because of me. I truly am incapable. If the three of you don’t believe me, you can follow us back to A City and check at the hospital again.”
Ke Miao looked at Xia Zhiyu’s expression, deep in thought. After finding no fault, she smiled and patted Xia Zhiyu’s shoulder. “Secretary Xia, we were in the wrong just now. Don’t be angry. We didn’t mean to pry into your secret. Don’t worry, none of us will reveal this to anyone.”
