After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 24
When Zhou Chong and Xie Li were taken away by the police, there wasn’t much of a scene. Furthermore, the employees were told the night before that the two had left early due to unforeseen circumstances. So, when the employees woke up and started wandering around the resort, they didn’t notice anything amiss. They only felt that, with two perverts gone, they could relax and enjoy the trip more.
“Why would Zhou Chong and Xie Li leave early? They clearly told me they had found their targets and were waiting to make a move.” Yu Chou stood on the balcony, looking at Ruan Wu’s almost indistinguishable private residence in the distance, taking a drag from his cigarette.
“I find it strange, too. Those two are from two different branch companies. It’s too much of a coincidence for them to both have sudden business at the same time.”
“We’ll ask old Qiu and the others later. They occasionally hang out with Zhou Chong and Xie Li,” Zhao Sheng said.
“Why hasn’t Ms. Ruan come out yet?” The three of them had specifically stood on this balcony—the only one that offered a glimpse of Ruan Wu’s courtyard—since early morning, hoping to “accidentally” run into Ruan Wu the moment she stepped out. But it was already nine o’clock, and they had been waiting for a full hour without seeing a soul.
“You know Ms. Ruan’s personality. She must feel like she wasted an entire day yesterday and is catching up on work now. Oh, God, why did you give her perfect looks, family background, personality, and ability, only to strip her of the ability to fall in love? I really can’t wait any longer. Every day, all I think about is how to get her,” Yu Chou sighed.
“Don’t rush,” Ke Miao said. “If that matter succeeds, we might have a chance.”
“Ke Miao is right. Money is all-powerful. If we have enough money, we can…”
…Kidnap Ruan Wu to a deserted island. Even if it’s by force, as long as they get her, they would have lived a fulfilling life.
Everything was unspoken. The three exchanged a knowing glance, raised their wine glasses simultaneously, clinked them, and drank an entire glass of wine in the excitement and anticipation of the early morning.
At 9:30 a.m., Zhao Sheng and the other two confirmed that Ruan Wu wasn’t coming out and left the balcony. They decided to find somewhere to hang out and see if they could run into Ruan Wu at lunchtime.
Walking behind a rock garden, the sound of gurgling water covered their footsteps. Ke Miao vaguely heard the words “Ms. Ruan” and immediately raised her hand to signal Zhao Sheng and Yu Chou to be quiet.
The three stopped and stood in a hidden corner, straining their ears to hear what the people outside were saying.
“Really? Everyone will be so happy if they find out about this.” This was a clear, pleasant male voice.
“Of course, it’s true. I asked Secretary Xia at seven this morning, and she said Ms. Ruan went out early to take care of it.” The second male voice was slightly deeper.
“Since Zhou Chong and Xie Li have already been taken away by the police, and the evidence is solid, Minister Li, can I tell everyone about this?”
“Of course. You can reveal a little bit early, or wait until the company officially announces it tomorrow. Everyone in the company will receive an email then. But since it’s such good news, the sooner they know, the happier they’ll be. Just mention it in the group chat later.”
“Okay!” The two men talking left. The utterly shocked Zhao Sheng and the other two exchanged dumbfounded glances. They were completely disbelieving.
How could people they had just chatted with yesterday suddenly be taken away by the police today? How did they not hear a single thing about it?
“They’re going to tell others about it, aren’t they? We’ll just find someone to ask about it at lunchtime.”
Minister Li and Yu Qingyi chatted as they walked. Yu Qingyi sighed. “Secretary Xia must be working hard. I always thought the CEO’s secretary had an easy job, at least easier than us in the Tech Department.”
Minister Li was confused. “Where did you get the idea that Secretary Xia is working hard?” He recalled his earlier words but found no hidden information.
Yu Qingyi explained, “Minister Li, you asked Secretary Xia about this after seven this morning. At such an early hour, I was still asleep, but Secretary Xia already knew Ms. Ruan had gone to handle the matter. That means Secretary Xia went to Ms. Ruan’s room early this morning. Ms. Ruan, needless to say, sees work as her greatest hobby. She wouldn’t put it down even on a vacation. From this, I deduce that Secretary Xia must have gone to Ms. Ruan for work as well. Secretary Xia surely doesn’t love work as much as Ms. Ruan, having to get up early even on a trip. That’s why I say she’s working hard.”
After listening, a light bulb went on in Minister Li’s head. He was suddenly enlightened.
He was a married man with a loving wife, unlike a young person like Yu Qingyi who lacked relationship experience. Yesterday, he kept feeling that the way Xia Zhiyu and Ruan Wu interacted was strange, especially Ruan Wu, who only showed the true side of her personality when facing Xia Zhiyu.
“I get it! So that’s what it is!” Minister Li said, suppressing his excitement.
Logically, managers like them should be staying on the same floor. However, Minister Li had never seen Xia Zhiyu on his floor, and neither had anyone else. Every time he saw Xia Zhiyu, she was always next to Ruan Wu.
Minister Li hadn’t given it much thought before because he assumed Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu could never be together.
However, after hearing Yu Qingyi’s analysis, Minister Li suddenly realized that Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu might be involved. The reason Xia Zhiyu knew Ruan Wu’s whereabouts so early was that she lived in Ruan Wu’s private courtyard.
That’s Ruan Wu’s! Private! Courtyard! Who else but Ruan Wu could stay there? Why would Xia Zhiyu be allowed to stay there?
It must be because of Ruan Wu’s preference!
Minister Li almost couldn’t hold back his smile. He quickly put on a different expression and leaned closer to Yu Qingyi, whispering mysteriously, “Qingyi, I have some gossip about Secretary Xia. Do you want to know?”
Minister Li kept his eyes fixed on Yu Qingyi’s expression. Yu Qingyi probably hadn’t realized his feelings for Xia Zhiyu yet. His eyes sparkled when he heard Minister Li’s words, but he didn’t look shy. “What kind of gossip could Secretary Xia possibly have?”
Xia Zhiyu was under the constant scrutiny of almost every employee in the company. She couldn’t hide any gossip.
“I only just found out myself. Besides the people involved, I’m the only one who knows in the entire company.” As Minister Li said this, Yu Qingyi involuntarily grew more expectant.
“Minister Li, stop keeping me in suspense,” Yu Qingyi urged.
Minister Li then told Yu Qingyi about his discovery. “…Don’t all these signs show that Ms. Ruan feels something special for Secretary Xia?”
Yu Qingyi’s expression was slightly unnatural for a moment. He was stunned, then managed a forced smile. “It certainly seems so. I just wonder if Secretary Xia likes Ms. Ruan…”
Yu Qingyi immediately realized he had said something foolish. No one in this world disliked Ruan Wu. No one could escape her charm, and Xia Zhiyu wouldn’t be an exception.
