After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 3
“A Beta? How is that possible?!” Dr. Han exclaimed in shock.
She quickly pulled up Xia Zhiyu’s medical report and reviewed it carefully.
The ID information for Xia Zhiyu indeed stated she was a female Beta, but the examination report clearly showed that she had Alpha pheromones and was a genuine female Alpha.
So, what Xia Zhiyu said was true: she had undergone a secondary differentiation at the age of 26, completing an evolution from a mediocre Beta to an elite Alpha.
“Unbelievable, this is simply unbelievable!” Dr. Han couldn’t help but exclaim. “I’ve been a doctor for 30 years, and the oldest person I’ve treated for secondary differentiation was no older than eighteen. By all rights, after eighteen, a Beta’s hormones are stable and a secondary differentiation shouldn’t be possible. Secretary Xia, your case is a miracle!” Dr. Han’s cheeks flushed with excitement.
Ruan Wu, seeing Dr. Han’s exaggerated reaction, glanced at Xia Zhiyu, her eyes darkening slightly. What a cruel world, where simply having Alpha pheromones in one’s body could be met with such awe.
If Xia Zhiyu had differentiated into an Omega, Dr. Han would likely have reported it immediately, getting Xia Zhiyu—a new “breeding machine”—into an Omega school to learn how to please her Alpha and how to produce high-quality offspring.
Ruan Wu’s sudden change in mood was subtle, but Xia Zhiyu was sensitive enough to pick up on it. Dr. Han, meanwhile, was still marveling at Xia Zhiyu’s differentiation at such an advanced age.
Guessing that Ruan Wu didn’t like wasting time on useless chatter, Xia Zhiyu naturally shifted the topic. “Dr. Han, would you like to hear what I did last night that caused this sudden secondary differentiation?”
Dr. Han immediately stopped her exclamations. “Yes, yes, please tell me. Maybe we can find the reason behind it.”
Xia Zhiyu carefully recounted how she took a drink on behalf of Ruan Wu. “Other than that, there shouldn’t have been anything else strange. Ms. Ruan can confirm that we were together the whole time at the banquet.”
“Xia Zhiyu is correct,” Ruan Wu said.
Dr. Han nodded, pondering for a moment. “Could the drink have been drugged? But if there was a drug that could cause a Beta to undergo secondary differentiation, it would have taken the world by storm. Could it be a newly developed drug?”
“Dr. Han, that glass of wine was for Ms. Ruan,” Xia Zhiyu reminded her.
“Ah, the wine was for Ms. Ruan. But Ms. Ruan is an Omega, so a secondary differentiation isn’t possible for her. This means the drug in the wine likely has other effects, and the person who put it in didn’t know it could make a Beta differentiate.”
Dr. Han grew more excited with each guess. She looked at Xia Zhiyu and Ruan Wu with a burning gaze. “Secretary Xia, Ms. Ruan, do you still have that glass of wine?”
If she could analyze that drink, she might just discover a new, world-changing drug!
Xia Zhiyu shook her head. “No, we don’t.” Even if the wine was still there, Dr. Han likely wouldn’t find anything.
In the novel, “Xia Zhiyu” died a month later, and there were no signs of secondary differentiation before that. Based on this, Xia Zhiyu guessed that this Beta body’s differentiation was related to her own arrival.
After all, Xia Zhiyu was an Alpha before she transmigrated, so her soul might have influenced the body.
Xia Zhiyu brought up the wine to Dr. Han to divert her attention from the differentiation itself and focus it on the drug.
At most, the wine contained a drug that caused memory loss. Xia Zhiyu had just remembered that the original novel had a short passage describing “Xia Zhiyu” getting drugged after drinking for Ruan Wu.
[The next day, Xia Zhiyu woke up in a hotel bed with no memory of the previous night. She looked at her watch and, realizing she was about to be late, she leaped out of bed. She rushed to the company after a quick wash but was still five minutes late. At the morning meeting, Ruan Wu publicly reprimanded Xia Zhiyu, who in turn began to resent Ruan Wu and plot how to get revenge on her Omega boss.]
At the time, Xia Zhiyu wasn’t interested in the story of this side character with the same name and didn’t pay any attention to this passage. Only now did she realize its subtle implications.
The examination results showed that both women were in perfect health, with no problems whatsoever. Before leaving the hospital, Xia Zhiyu specifically told Dr. Han not to mention Ruan Wu’s past health issues from refusing to be marked by an Alpha.
Dr. Han chuckled. “Don’t worry. Ms. Ruan is completely fine now. If I said anything, people would just think I was slandering her.”
“Oh, and Secretary Xia, if you find out who drugged the wine, could you let me know? I’m incredibly curious about what it was.”
Xia Zhiyu nodded generously. “Of course. No problem.” It would be at least a few days until they found anything, if ever. Since the hospital couldn’t find a problem with her now, there would be no clues to be found later.
When Xia Zhiyu and Ruan Wu left the hospital, it was almost noon. Once they were in the car, Xia Zhiyu took the initiative to speak before Ruan Wu could. “Ms. Ruan, I’d like to treat you to a meal.”
Ruan Wu turned her head to meet Xia Zhiyu’s expectant gaze, a knowing look in her eyes. “There’s no need if it’s about last night,” she said coldly.
They just slept together and got a temporary mark. She had no desire to pursue a relationship with Xia Zhiyu. Ruan Wu still loathed Alphas, and Xia Zhiyu was now one of them. Whether Xia Zhiyu wanted to take responsibility or wanted her to, she would refuse, so there was no need to have a meal together.
Xia Zhiyu persisted. “I know you don’t care, Ms. Ruan, but I still want to apologize.”
“Apologize?” Ruan Wu narrowed her eyes slightly. “Do you think the Alpha is the one who benefited from an Alpha and Omega sleeping together?” Ruan Wu’s expression was even colder than before.
“That’s not what I meant…” Xia Zhiyu wanted to explain but couldn’t find the words.
Her apology stemmed from the fact that her entry into “Xia Zhiyu’s” body was what caused the body to suddenly differentiate into an Alpha, which then triggered Ruan Wu’s heat, leading to their passionate night.
Ultimately, if she hadn’t transmigrated, nothing would have happened last night.
But Ruan Wu didn’t know the truth and disliked Alphas so much that it seemed normal for her to misunderstand.
Ruan Wu looked away, seemingly tired of looking at her. “My body has completely recovered because of last night. If anything, I’m the one who benefited more. Don’t worry, you’ll get every bit of compensation you’re owed.”
Xia Zhiyu suddenly found Ruan Wu a little cute for even arguing about who benefited more.
Wake up, Xia Zhiyu. Ruan Wu is a cold, vindictive, great Omega female lead!
Xia Zhiyu said, “…Thank you, Ms. Ruan.”
They returned to the company after noon. It was lunch break, so Xia Zhiyu, as an employee, didn’t have to work.
Ruan Wu, the CEO, had no plans to rest. She had wasted an entire morning and needed to make up for it during lunch.
Ruan Wu sat focused on her work behind her large desk. Xia Zhiyu had planned to ask if she wanted her to get her lunch, but seeing Ruan Wu’s “do not disturb” demeanor, she gave up on the idea.
Whether Ruan Wu ate or not, she would get her lunch.
This was the attitude of a good secretary.
Ruan Wu already disliked Alphas, which was why she had hired “Xia Zhiyu” as a Beta. Now that “she” had suddenly differentiated into an Alpha, she was definitely an eyesore to Ruan Wu.
Xia Zhiyu didn’t want to lose this job just yet, so she was going to do whatever she could to make Ruan Wu happy. Work was undoubtedly the workaholic Ruan Wu’s favorite thing. She would have to be crazy to interrupt her.
Xia Zhiyu quietly left the CEO’s office. On her way to the top-floor cafeteria, she ran into a number of colleagues. Acting like the “Xia Zhiyu” from her memory, she smiled and greeted the Omegas and Betas. “Good afternoon, everyone. Are you all heading to the cafeteria?” she asked, walking into the elevator and pressing the button for the top floor.
These people were often harassed by “Xia Zhiyu” in the past. They had even created a group chat without her, where they shared her cringey words and actions every day and complained about her together to vent their discomfort.
Seeing Xia Zhiyu enter the elevator, the rest of the people exchanged glances before reluctantly shuffling in. No one wanted to be near Xia Zhiyu, so they plastered themselves against the walls, creating a large empty space around her.
