After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 5
When Xia Zhiyu returned to the CEO’s office, Ruan Wu was still hard at work.
Hearing the sound, Ruan Wu quickly looked up. Seeing it was Xia Zhiyu, she said, “These reports need to be signed by the finance department. You can now…” Ruan Wu stopped midsentence, remembering it was still break time and the finance department might not be fully staffed. She paused, then continued, “At two o’clock, take them to the finance department so they can double-check the data and sign them for me.”
“Okay, Ms. Ruan.” Although Xia Zhiyu was a little scared of Ruan Wu from what she had read in the novel, she couldn’t help but say, seeing Ruan Wu’s pale, delicate face and bloodless lips, “Ms. Ruan, there’s always more work to be done. How about you eat first before continuing?”
After she said it, Xia Zhiyu immediately regretted it. The tone was too intimate, and it would be bad if Ruan Wu thought she was trying to become the CEO’s wife.
In this novel, all the Alphas who coveted Ruan Wu came to a bad end. Once she was done using them and they had lost their value, Ruan Wu cast them aside like dirt. She would acquire their companies and crush their resources, mercilessly dragging them into the mud. It seemed she wanted to get revenge for having to pretend to be nice to them while being disgusted.
“You’re telling me to put down my work and eat?” Ruan Wu’s brow slowly furrowed.
Although it was just a simple question, the hairs on Xia Zhiyu’s arms stood up instantly.
She quickly lowered her voice and, with an awkward laugh, held up the takeout she’d bought for Ruan Wu. “Ms. Ruan, I brought you lunch. You used up a lot of energy last night, and you didn’t eat breakfast. If you don’t eat lunch, you’ll get low blood sugar. Look in the mirror; you can see how pale your face is. If you faint from low blood sugar, it’ll only delay your work more…”
Facing Ruan Wu’s increasingly sharp glare, Xia Zhiyu’s voice trailed off.
She felt like Ruan Wu wasn’t pretending at all in front of her. She was nothing like the gentle and harmless person she was in front of others.
Only when Xia Zhiyu fell silent did Ruan Wu speak. “Xia Zhiyu, I told you, I was not at a disadvantage for us sleeping together last night. You don’t need to do this out of guilt.”
She glanced at the takeout containers in Xia Zhiyu’s hands. Her empty stomach suddenly felt hungry and grumbled twice.
“…” Ruan Wu’s face stiffened slightly. She had heard it loud and clear, and she didn’t know if Xia Zhiyu had. If Xia Zhiyu had, she would have to get a new secretary.
Xia Zhiyu had heard it, of course, but she chose to pretend she hadn’t.
When it came to your boss’s embarrassing moments, the less you knew, the better.
However… Ruan Wu’s startled, somewhat uncertain expression was rather cute.
“Ms. Ruan, if you don’t want to eat, could you reimburse me for the cost of the meal?” Xia Zhiyu asked a little cautiously.
“How much?” Ruan Wu asked.
Xia Zhiyu took it upon herself to bring her food, and now she wanted to be reimbursed. Ruan Wu felt like something was off.
“Not much, fifteen. You can just Venmo it to me,” Xia Zhiyu said quickly.
She was so fast it was as if Ruan Wu would change her mind and not reimburse her.
“You said fifteen?” Ruan Wu couldn’t help but confirm again.
Xia Zhiyu not only tried to placate her with a measly fifteen yuan meal but also wanted her to pay for it.
Ruan Wu was speechless but also a little relieved that Xia Zhiyu wasn’t actually trying to pursue a different kind of relationship with her. After all, no Alpha who wanted to pursue her would be so stingy.
“Are you not happy with your current salary, or have you forgotten that you’ve undergone secondary differentiation and are now an Alpha? What’s with this stingy behavior?” Ruan Wu said, displeased, as she sent the money to Xia Zhiyu via WeChat.
“One thousand five hundred? Ms. Ruan, you don’t need to…”
Ruan Wu’s eyes told Xia Zhiyu to shut up. “The extra is a tip. I need silence now.”
“Thank you, Ms. Ruan.” Xia Zhiyu finally closed her mouth.
Ruan Wu let out a sigh of relief, ready to ignore her embarrassing grumbling stomach and get back to work. Then she saw Xia Zhiyu, who hadn’t left the office yet, walk over to the guest sofa, sit down, and place the food on the coffee table. She opened the takeout boxes.
The aroma of the food filled the air almost instantly. Ruan Wu’s mouth began to water. She glared angrily at Xia Zhiyu. “This is an office. You’re going to eat here?” Did Xia Zhiyu have any sense of propriety as a secretary?
Xia Zhiyu looked up in surprise. “Ms. Ruan, I already ate in the cafeteria. I’m not hungry. This food is for you. How could I eat your food?”
“I’m not eating. Take it out of here immediately.” A faint blush appeared on Ruan Wu’s pale cheeks, and her dark eyes glistened with anger.
Xia Zhiyu was already mentally prepared for Ruan Wu to get angry. She calmly began to pack up, all while talking. “Okay, Ms. Ruan. I was just thinking that since you paid so much for this food, it would be a shame to waste it…”
Xia Zhiyu then seemed to remember that she shouldn’t talk about her boss this way and immediately shut up, looking at Ruan Wu with her clear, beautiful, and innocent-looking eyes.
Ruan Wu was so annoyed she almost laughed.
What was this? A new way for Alphas to pursue Omegas?
“Leave the food and don’t touch it. Get out of my office now and come back when it’s time to work,” Ruan Wu said, pointing at the door with a cold expression.
“Okay, Ms. Ruan.” Xia Zhiyu quickly put down the things in her hands and, without a moment’s hesitation, turned and left the office.
As Xia Zhiyu closed the door, a smile appeared on her face. Ruan Wu wasn’t so scary after all. Once she figured out her temper, she was actually easy to get along with.
She returned to the secretary’s office to rest. As soon as it was two o’clock, she walked into the CEO’s office on the dot.
Xia Zhiyu walked straight to Ruan Wu’s desk without even glancing at the food, as if she didn’t care whether Ruan Wu had eaten it or not. This annoyed Ruan Wu, who had been watching her out of the corner of her eye ever since she entered the room.
How can an Alpha like Xia Zhiyu even exist?
Ruan Wu unconsciously said it out loud.
“Ms. Ruan, I’ve only been an Alpha for less than a day. If you’re not satisfied with me, I will work hard to learn how to be a secretary that an Alpha like me can be proud of,” Xia Zhiyu said earnestly.
“…” The words were flawless. She said she would learn to be an “Alpha secretary.” There was no reason for Ruan Wu to fire her.
“These are the reports that need to be signed by the finance department. When you return, go to the HR department and change your gender to Alpha,” Ruan Wu said, her expression returning to a neutral one, speaking in a businesslike tone.
Xia Zhiyu took the reports. “Okay, Ms. Ruan.”
Xia Zhiyu took two steps before turning back around, meeting Ruan Wu’s glaring eyes. She paused, trying to hold back a laugh. “Ms. Ruan, if I just go to HR and change my gender like this, what if no one believes me?”
Ruan Wu’s pale face was taut, and her lips were a thin, straight line, revealing her frustration at being caught. “I’ll call HR and have them pull your physical exam records from Jiangguang Hospital.”
Xia Zhiyu could hear the gritting of teeth in Ruan Wu’s voice. She dared not provoke the lion any further. She left with a final “Okay, Ms. Ruan” and ran out of the office.
Outside the office, a smiling Xia Zhiyu went to the finance department.
The finance department was relatively relaxed at the beginning of the month, with many employees working from home, leaving only two or three on duty.
“Knock, knock, knock!”
The crisp knocking made the two female Betas at their desks look up. Their calm expressions instantly fell when they saw Xia Zhiyu’s smiling face.
“Xia Zhiyu,” as the CEO’s secretary, should have been treated with a certain level of respect. People wouldn’t normally show their true feelings to her face. But ever since a certain employee got so fed up with her that she started insulting her, only to find that “Xia Zhiyu” was completely unfazed, everyone’s confidence grew.
Especially the quick-tempered employees in the finance department, who had given “Xia Zhiyu” a hard time on many occasions.
“Hello, ladies. Sorry to bother you. I have some reports here that the finance department needs to sign and review.”
Xia Zhiyu’s smile was bright and clear. Her dark eyes were bright and beautiful. This caused the two employees who were about to start mocking her to lose their voices.
They exchanged surprised glances. Since when did Xia Zhiyu talk like a normal person? Before, every time she came in, she would give them a greasy wink and say, “Hey, beauties and hunks, I’m here. Did you miss me?” And they would reply, “The sight of you makes me want to vomit.”
Did Xia Zhiyu take the wrong medicine today???
