Summary
Synopsis:
Jin Tang had been an ordinary young man in the twenty-first century. Unfortunately, one day he was hit by a truck and flattened into a pancake.
He died.
But his soul remained.
A mysterious entity calling itself a System whisked his soul away to a dynasty that had never existed in history, stuffing him into the body of a young emperor who had just taken his own life.
The System said, “As long as you cooperate with me and complete my missions, you’ll be able to come back to life.”
Having neither fallen in love nor made his fortune yet, Jin Tang immediately agreed.
“Deal.”
Only then did he discover that the System’s missions required him to become a tyrant—frame loyal officials, squander the nation’s resources on extravagant construction projects, and turn himself into a ruler despised by all, worthy of execution by everyone.
Jin Tang refused.
He broke with the System, and after a relentless struggle against it, he ended up dying once more.
After his “death,” Jin Tang’s soul became bound to his personal jade pendant. That pendant was taken by the Regent Prince, Xiao Li, who carried it close to his heart every single day, tucked safely inside his robes against his chest.
From there, Jin Tang witnessed with his own eyes just how utterly unhinged Xiao Li became after losing him.
At long last, the System was completely defeated, and Jin Tang was truly resurrected.
The very first thing he did after coming back to life was throw his arms around his Regent Prince.
Xiao Li had fallen in love with him.
And he had fallen in love with Xiao Li as well.
Note: The shou is intersex (possessing both male and female reproductive anatomy).
Also, Jin Tang before and after becoming the young emperor has always been the same person from beginning to end. He never replaced anyone—he was always the same Jin Tang, constantly fighting against the System.
