After Breaking Up with the Scumbag Girl, I Became an Alpha [Entertainment Circle] (GL) - Chapter 13
For the next few days, Xu Wuhuan stayed in a recording studio in C City. Once she finished recording, she received a message.
Lu Yu: [CEO Xu, I heard you’re in C City. Let’s meet up.]
Lu Yu was her secretary and assistant.
The two met in Xu Wuhuan’s hotel room. Xu Wuhuan returned to the hotel wearing a mask and a hat. Recently, Zhong Yan’s words and actions had pushed her into the eye of the storm once again; rumors of discord were everywhere, and both of them were being relentlessly slandered. Of course, Xu Wuhuan got the worst of it. The PR department had to put in a massive effort to suppress the noise. Xu Wuhuan had to keep a low profile for the time being.
Lu Yu was already waiting outside Xu Wuhuan’s room.
Lu Yu was a striking beauty with flaming red lips, sharp eyes, and long, wavy hair. She looked like a top-tier Omega, but she was actually an Alpha.
“CEO Xu, why are you so slow? I’ve been waiting for ages,” Lu Yu said in a playful, exaggeratedly “fake” tone.
Xu Wuhuan glanced at her. “Speak properly.” She opened the door and entered the room.
Lu Yu giggled, dropped the flirtatious act, and followed her inside. “CEO Xu, how have you been lately?”
Xu Wuhuan sat on the sofa and brewed two cups of coffee, handing one to Lu Yu. She took a sip, and perhaps finding it not sweet enough, added several sugar cubes before taking another small sip. “Don’t you already know?”
“Aiya, how would I know? I’m abroad all year managing the company for you. I have no idea.”
Xu Wuhuan curled her lip, ignoring the feigned ignorance.
Seeing that Xu Wuhuan wasn’t playing along, Lu Yu dropped the drama queen routine. Her expression turned serious and a bit puzzled. “CEO Xu, I really don’t get you. Why neglect the overseas company just to return home to be a choreographer? And joining a girl group… what are you after?”
Xu Wuhuan gave a soft laugh and countered, “What do you think?”
Lu Yu rested her chin in her hands, frowning as she thought. “Just for that Beta? You didn’t even hesitate to drive the Wanfu Group into bankruptcy. Do you know how much the company lost because of that? Gu Chang’an is watching us like a hawk—he’s been restless again lately.”
Xu Wuhuan’s expression remained calm as she gave a slight nod. “Mhm, I know what I’m doing. Besides—” She let out a cold laugh. “Gu Chang’an is just a piece of trash. He won’t be jumping around for much longer.”
Seeing Xu Wuhuan’s icy smile again, Lu Yu felt an inexplicable chill run down her spine.
She had met Xu Wuhuan abroad. At that time, Gu Yuanming was on his deathbed, and the company faced a succession crisis. Almost everyone favored Gu Chang’an, but to their shock, Gu Yuanming’s will stated that more than half of his shares in the Chengxing Group were to go to Xu Wuhuan. Gu Chang’an only received a tiny portion. Xu Wuhuan became the majority shareholder and CEO. At first, Gu Chang’an and everyone else tried to push her out, but Xu Wuhuan suppressed them all with a ruthless, iron-fisted style that contrasted sharply with her innocent appearance. Her methods were sharp and bloody, making her the absolute ruler. Lu Yu had been headhunted by her from another company and became her right-hand woman.
In recent years, for reasons unknown, Xu Wuhuan suddenly wanted to return to China. Lu Yu handled the company’s business in her absence. Since she was in C City for a business trip and knew Xu Wuhuan was here, she invited her to meet.
“By the way,” Xu Wuhuan said suddenly. “I’m running low on my high-potency Omega suppressants. Hurry up and order a few more boxes for me.”
“Understood,” Lu Yu said. “I’m telling you, as an Omega chasing a Beta… do you really think there will be a good ending for you two?”
Xu Wuhuan’s gaze was frantic and obsessed. “I don’t care.”
Lu Yu sighed, truly unable to understand that Beta, Zhong Yan. Although she lived abroad, she had heard Zhong Yan’s name many times. Zero once held a concert over there, and the attendance was staggering. Especially when Zhong Yan rapped—Lu Yu had seen videos online where the fans’ screams nearly blew the roof off. She was pretty, sure, but she was a Beta.
Zhong Yan, Jiang Cha, and Chu Yun were also in C City today for a fansign event for their last album. After it ended, they returned to the hotel. The four of them stayed in separate rooms. Jiang Cha and Chu Yun had already entered theirs. Zhong Yan’s room was just past Xu Wuhuan’s. As she was about to walk by, Xu Wuhuan’s door opened, and Zhong Yan came face-to-face with Lu Yu.
Seeing a glamorous woman coming out of Xu Wuhuan’s room, Zhong Yan’s face darkened. Especially when this woman looked at her with a pair of smiling, foxy eyes that hinted at something ambiguous, Zhong Yan felt a surge of irritation.
When she was unhappy, she didn’t filter her words. She said crossly, “What are you smiling at? Are you sick?”
Lu Yu naturally recognized the person in front of her. As someone CEO Xu cared about, she was very familiar with her. Zhong Yan was wearing her signature twin pigtails today, though they were dyed a pale blue. She wore a thin jacket over a black tank top and black cargo pants—a very cool look. To Lu Yu, her “exploding cat” temper was quite amusing. Perhaps because this was the person her indifferent CEO was so focused on, Lu Yu couldn’t help but want to see what she was like.
She teased, “I’m happy because I see a beauty, so I laughed.”
Zhong Yan’s brow furrowed deep. She was very unhappy. Crossing her arms, she asked bluntly, “Why are you in Xu Wuhuan’s room?”
Lu Yu raised an eyebrow, her hand reaching out playfully as if to touch one of the pigtails. Before she could, Zhong Yan slapped her hand away. “What do you think you’re doing? Hands off!”
Lu Yu couldn’t stop laughing, finding this person quite entertaining. Zhong Yan felt like she was about to explode. She muttered “Crazy” under her breath and tried to walk past her.
Suddenly, a voice came from inside the room. “Yan Yan.”
Xu Wuhuan walked out. Seeing Zhong Yan’s gloomy face, she smiled. “What’s wrong? Who bullied you?”
Zhong Yan’s face instantly darkened further, her tone fierce. “Who the hell would bully me?!”
Xu Wuhuan’s gaze shifted between Lu Yu and Zhong Yan, and she understood. She explained, “This is Lu Yu, my—friend.”
Lu Yu looked at Zhong Yan with smiling eyes, adding fuel to the fire. “A very good friend.”
Zhong Yan: “…” Is there something wrong with this woman?
Xu Wuhuan found Lu Yu’s presence a bit of an eyesore and signaled her with a look to get lost immediately. Lu Yu winked at Xu Wuhuan and, sure enough, beat a hasty retreat.
Now, only the two of them were left in the corridor.
“Xu Wuhuan, have you become addicted to playing with people? How long do you plan to play with this one before you dump her?” Zhong Yan’s tone was mocking and barbed.
“You misunderstand,” Xu Wuhuan said gently. “She’s just a friend. And she’s an Alpha.”
Zhong Yan realized belatedly that her tone just now was a bit inappropriate—it sounded like she was jealous, especially since Xu Wuhuan felt the need to explain. Why explain to me? Afraid I’ll misunderstand? This woman has a high opinion of herself.
To cover up the weirdness of her tone, she put on a “cool and tough” face and snorted, “Heh, what does it have to do with me?”
Xu Wuhuan sighed helplessly. “Yan Yan, must you always talk to me like this?”
“Oh, and how else?” Zhong Yan’s eyes were cold, her face expressionless, her tone flat and contemptuous. “What kind of tone do you want? Sweet and gentle? Coquettish?”
She scoffed. “Who do you think you are?”
Xu Wuhuan blinked, silent for a few seconds. “Yan Yan—”
“Don’t call me Yan Yan!”
“…”
Xu Wuhuan pursed her lips. “…Zhong Yan.”
Those two simple words seemed to pull them miles apart. Her tone carried a faint plea. “I was wrong back then. It was my fault. I know you’re angry, maybe even unable to forgive me, but could you—”
“No!” As if knowing what she was going to say, Zhong Yan cut her off and stepped close to her. Before Xu Wuhuan could speak, Zhong Yan roughly grabbed her hair and pulled her head back, saying almost cruelly, “Xu Wuhuan, don’t f*cking think I’ll buy into your ‘forgiveness’ act. I absolutely loathe being toyed with. It makes me feel… disgusted.” The last word was whispered, slithering over Xu Wuhuan’s skin like a cold, terrifying snake.
The tugging on her hair was painful, but Xu Wuhuan’s expression remained as calm as ever. She simply stared straight at her. Despite being in a vulnerable position, she didn’t look defeated in the slightest.
Zhong Yan had always hated her aloofness—like a high-and-mighty queen looking down on the joys and sorrows of the commoners. Zhong Yan wanted to drag her down into the mud.
“Xu Wuhuan, you’d better quit Zero on your own. Don’t make me force you out. For the sake of our past, I don’t want things to get ugly. What do you think? Hmm?” Zhong Yan raised an eyebrow provocatively.
Xu Wuhuan still smiled warmly. “That won’t do. Without you, I’m not going anywhere.”
This ambiguous sentence ignited the violence and anger in Zhong Yan’s heart. She truly couldn’t understand how this woman had the nerve to say such things after what she had done. Where did she get the face?!
Zhong Yan used her strength and yanked Xu Wuhuan backward. Caught off guard, Xu Wuhuan was thrown to the floor by the sheer force.
Zhong Yan looked down at her, a malicious smile on her face that didn’t match her sweet appearance. Her tone was somewhat morbid. “If you insist on being a masochist, then there’s nothing I can do.”
She squatted down slightly, tilting her head innocently. “I will make you leave. Please look forward to it.”
Xu Wuhuan propped herself up with her hands, leaning her upper body closer. She let out a laugh. “Alright.”
The two locked eyes for a few seconds—one icy and freezing, the other soft but barbed—creating a turbulent and complex electric tension.
Zhong Yan was so angry that a faint trace of pheromones leaked out. Xu Wuhuan smelled a light lemon scent. It was fresh yet carried a strange momentum that was attracted to Xu Wuhuan’s hidden pheromones. Xu Wuhuan felt a faint surge of heat, but she didn’t understand why.
“Your perfume smells good,” Xu Wuhuan said.
Zhong Yan frowned. Perfume? She hadn’t sprayed any today. Where would a scent—wait, could it be—
She suddenly remembered that the Alpha suppressant she took a few days ago was about to wear off. So—
Her expression shifted. She had to get out of here. she couldn’t let her pheromones be exposed to outsiders. She gave a stiff “Oh” and walked away without a second look.
Only after she left did the heat in Xu Wuhuan cool down. She didn’t think much of it, assuming it was a normal Omega reaction.
She watched Zhong Yan’s retreating back, lost in thought.
