After Breaking Up with the Scumbag Girl, I Became an Alpha [Entertainment Circle] (GL) - Chapter 2
Five years ago, summer.
“Xu Wuhuan, I’m warning you again, don’t go after Wen Yi!” Wan Xing pointed at Xu Wuhuan viciously.
Xu Wuhuan was surrounded by a group of people and cornered in an alley. While it looked like a disadvantageous position, she stood with her arms crossed, maintaining a relaxed posture, showing no signs of panic. She said with a hint of playfulness, “Trouble is, who’s provoking whom? I’ve tried to avoid her repeatedly, but I can’t stand her relentlessly clinging to me. What am I supposed to do?” After speaking, she spread her hands innocently.
“Bullshit!” Wan Xing was furious. “Who knows if you’re taking advantage of being an Alpha to seduce her?”
Wen Yi was a top-tier beauty, an Omega in the second year of high school at Xu Wuhuan’s school. Wan Xing, also an Alpha from the second year, was hopelessly devoted to Wen Yi. However, the object of her affection was solely focused on Xu Wuhuan. Infuriated, Wan Xing gathered a group of people after evening study hall and cornered Xu Wuhuan in this alley, intending to teach her a lesson.
Xu Wuhuan’s eyes went cold. She scoffed, “I’m not interested in her. If you lack ability, who’s fault is that?”
Wan Xing exploded, clenching her fist and charging forward. Xu Wuhuan slightly sidestepped, then used her left hand to grab Wan Xing’s incoming wrist. The next second, she used her other elbow to slam hard into the ribs beneath Wan Xing’s armpit. Wan Xing groaned in pain. Xu Wuhuan deftly grabbed her hair and tossed her to the ground. Xu Wuhuan was very strong; Wan Xing couldn’t withstand the force and fell.
A male member of the group rushed forward, intending to slap her. Xu Wuhuan’s eyes narrowed, and she preemptively slapped him instead. Before the boy could react, Xu Wuhuan delivered a side kick, sending him lightly colliding with the wall.
Seeing two people consecutively beaten so badly by one female Alpha, the rest of the group swarmed her.
Zhong Yan was engrossed in looking at beautiful photos of her idol on her phone. Because she was so focused, she unknowingly walked into the alley and heard an unusual commotion.
She looked up and saw the scene of destruction ahead: four or five people groaning on the ground. The only person standing was a girl wearing the same blue and white school uniform as her. In the dim light, the girl kept her head lowered, her hair slightly messy.
Although Zhong Yan was a Beta, she could still faintly sense the oppressive Alpha pheromones in the air.
Zhong Yan had never witnessed a scene like this. Although she had heard plenty of stories about campus bullying and gang fights, they were just rumors. Suddenly seeing this sight firsthand, her inherently obedient, good-student heart couldn’t handle it.
To make matters worse, the girl’s eyes glanced over at her. Perhaps because she had just finished fighting, her gaze still held an undispelled ferocity.
Zhong Yan felt even more intimidated. She swallowed hard. Her brain suddenly went haywire, and she covered her eyes with her hands. “Um, my eyes seem to have gone blind. How come I can’t see anything?”
She cautiously began to back away.
Unfortunately, Xu Wuhuan wasn’t an idiot; she recognized Zhong Yan.
She had only just learned her name. Their class had been reshuffled for the final year of high school, so the class was full of different people. Zhong Yan sat in front of her, but since they had only been in the new class for a few days, the two were not familiar and had no interaction.
Xu Wuhuan waved at her. “Come here for a second, Zhong Yan.”
Zhong Yan naturally recognized Xu Wuhuan as well. She was surprised for a few seconds. In her impression, this girl, despite being an Alpha, seemed easy to get along with. How could she be like this?
Zhong Yan really didn’t want to go over. She truly didn’t want to get involved with this group of people. She wore a distressed look. “…Can I… not go over?”
Xu Wuhuan couldn’t help but smile. “Am I that scary? I just need you to help me with something.”
When Xu Wuhuan smiled, she looked very innocent and harmless. The fear in Zhong Yan’s heart dissipated considerably, so she reluctantly walked over.
The people lying on the ground, seeing Zhong Yan, felt utterly humiliated and stared at her with unfriendly eyes.
The Alphas’ gaze was truly intimidating. Zhong Yan was so scared she walked behind Xu Wuhuan and stammered, “What do you… want me to do?”
Xu Wuhuan smiled at her. “Can you help me get a band-aid from my school bag?”
“Huh?” Zhong Yan was confused. Just for that?
Xu Wuhuan noticed her confusion and raised her hands. “My right hand is scraped, and my left hand was cut. It’s really hard to reach.”
Xu Wuhuan’s left hand was indeed cut, constantly bleeding, and her right hand was covered in scrapes.
Zhong Yan honestly said, “Oh.” While they were talking, the group of people had already fled, though Wan Xing glared at Xu Wuhuan before leaving.
Seeing them gone, Zhong Yan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Oh my god, that group was too scary.
Xu Wuhuan’s school bag was in a corner further away. Zhong Yan ran over, retrieved it, and walked back to Xu Wuhuan.
Xu Wuhuan looked tired and sat down on a nearby spot.
“Where are your tissues and band-aids?” Zhong Yan asked her.
“The very last pocket.”
Since Xu Wuhuan couldn’t use her hands for the moment, Zhong Yan had to dress the wounds herself.
Luckily, the injuries didn’t look serious. After wiping the blood from the cut hand, only a shallow wound remained. The right hand seemed to be worse, so Zhong Yan applied a band-aid to the most alarming-looking scrape.
“You should go to a clinic for the rest. I can’t help you with that,” Zhong Yan said.
“Why go to a clinic?” Xu Wuhuan stood up. “It’s just a tiny scratch.”
Zhong Yan: “…” Definitely an Alpha. Tough skin.
Xu Wuhuan put an arm around her shoulder. Zhong Yan was small, and Xu Wuhuan easily put her arm around her.
Zhong Yan’s body trembled. “Oh my god, what are you… doing?”
Xu Wuhuan grinned. “Let’s discuss something. Can you not tell anyone about this?”
Zhong Yan thought: How dare I? Do I have a death wish?
Zhong Yan quickly nodded. Xu Wuhuan smiled again. “Thanks. You helped me today, so let me treat you to bubble tea.”
Zhong Yan gave a polite, dry laugh. “No, thank you. My teeth aren’t good.”
Zhong Yan was genuinely a little afraid of her. One person managed to take down several others, including men and Alphas. What kind of monster is this? Based on today’s spectacle, Xu Wuhuan was definitely not a quiet or easygoing person. She was just a small, pitiful Beta and really didn’t want to enter the Alpha world.
Xu Wuhuan didn’t give her a chance to refuse. She put her arm around her and started walking. “Aiya, don’t refuse. Are you afraid of me? No need, I don’t eat people.”
Zhong Yan inwardly roared: But you beat people up!
The weak Zhong Yan had to resign herself to fate.
“What do you want to drink?” Xu Wuhuan asked her at the bubble tea shop.
Zhong Yan didn’t want to drink anything; she just wanted to go home. But if she didn’t order anything, she figured Xu Wuhuan wouldn’t let it go, so she just randomly named one.
“You like your bubble tea that sweet, huh?” Xu Wuhuan paid the bill.
“Yes, I prefer sweet food.”
Xu Wuhuan gave a look of playful teasing. “It really suits your appearance.”
Zhong Yan tilted her head and gave a confused “Ah?” When she realized what Xu Wuhuan meant, her ear tips flushed red. She said awkwardly, “…Thank you for the compliment.”
Xu Wuhuan’s words were true. Zhong Yan looked sweet. She had a small face with baby fat, air bangs, and a petite figure, making her look both sweet and Lolita-like.
Xu Wuhuan was taller than her. Looking down at her fair, round face, she thought she looked especially like a hamster.
“Thank you for today,” Xu Wuhuan patted her head. “Don’t tell anyone, okay?”
Zhong Yan had never been patted on the head like that before. She immediately felt a wave of awkwardness mixed with a little shyness.
Xu Wuhuan watched Zhong Yan’s retreating figure. Her smile faded, and she turned around to go home.
When she got home, as usual, only her younger brother, Gu Chang’an, was sitting on the sofa playing on his phone. Her parents were not home.
Gu Chang’an was the son of her stepfather, Su Lie. Su Lie had moved in just a few days after her father died. Her relationship with Gu Chang’an had always been very bad.
Xu Wuhuan didn’t even look at Gu Chang’an. Gu Chang’an only glanced at her when she opened the door, then turned his head back to focus on his phone.
Until Xu Wuhuan went back to her room, their eyes never met, and they didn’t say a single word, more estranged than strangers.
Xu Wuhuan thought this was great. No one bothered the other, and both were happy to be left alone.
She went into her bathroom and washed her blood-stained hands in the sink. A little blood trickled out of the cut on her left hand. Xu Wuhuan squeezed the wound hard with her fingers until fresh blood continuously oozed out and sharp pain flared. Only then did she stop.
Throughout the process, she looked as if she couldn’t feel the pain, her expression cold as ice. It was as if all her emotions had rotted away inside her skin and bones, leaving only a beautiful exterior on her face.
The next day, as Xu Wuhuan walked to the classroom door, she ran into Zhong Yan, who was on her way out to get water. Zhong Yan froze for a second.
Xu Wuhuan smiled. “Good morning, Zhong Yan.”
Because of yesterday’s events, their relationship was grudgingly a little closer. Zhong Yan wasn’t as afraid of her as she had been last night. She smiled and greeted her back.
When she got to her seat, her desk-mate, Yuan Lai, immediately asked her, “Huan’er, I heard that old hag Wan Xing was beaten last night and took a sick day today. Was it you— Holy shit, what happened to your hand?”
“Oh,” Xu Wuhuan said carelessly. “It’s nothing.”
Yuan Lai had a flash of inspiration. “Did Wan Xing cause trouble for you yesterday, and you couldn’t help but beat her up?”
Xu Wuhuan winked at her. “Your brain is pretty smart.”
Yuan Lai was agitated. “Damn it, that woman is crazy. I have to—”
“What are you going to do?” Xu Wuhuan glanced at her. “Go settle the score with her? Don’t bother. You’re an Omega, don’t be impulsive.”
Yuan Lai had a hot temper, and once her anger flared up, it was hard to extinguish. She huffed, “Fuck, she did this to your hand! Can you tolerate it?”
Xu Wuhuan took out a book. “I can’t tolerate it.” She turned and smiled sweetly. “That’s why I beat her up. Isn’t she unable to come to school today? We’re even.”
“She’s just an Alpha, she’s so damn arrogant. Serves that person right—”
“Wen Yi,” Xu Wuhuan reminded her.
Yuan Lai slapped the table. “Exactly, her! It serves her right for liking you.”
Xu Wuhuan chuckled twice and didn’t say anything.
Yuan Lai nudged her conspiratorially. “Hey, do you like her? She’s a top beauty, you know.”
Xu Wuhuan curved her lips, devoid of warmth. “No interest.”
“You have very high standards. So what type do you like? Don’t say it’s my type.”
Xu Wuhuan rolled her eyes at her. “Where does your confidence come from? I like—” She thought for a moment. It seemed she genuinely didn’t have a type she liked, and she had never liked anyone. Seeing Yuan Lai’s curious look, she randomly said, “Probably the sweet, soft, cute girl type.”
The moment she finished speaking, Zhong Yan happened to walk past her seat and distinctly heard Xu Wuhuan’s words.
Xu Wuhuan looked up at her. Zhong Yan recalled Xu Wuhuan’s words from yesterday and wouldn’t narcissistically assume that Xu Wuhuan liked her type, but there was a subtle, inexplicable awkwardness.
Xu Wuhuan’s eyes, looking down at her, made her pupils appear very dark, naturally giving her a clear gaze.
Zhong Yan’s eyelids inexplicably fluttered, and she returned to her seat.
