After Breaking Up with the Scumbag Girl, I Became an Alpha [Entertainment Circle] (GL) - Chapter 3
During evening study hall, the classroom suddenly lost power. The entire class erupted, everyone excited, thinking they could go home early.
The result was that the class teacher, Liu Xiaoguang, came in bringing light—a pile of candles—and seriously crushed the students’ hopes. “The power will be back on in a bit. Just use the candles for now. Don’t think about going home! Look at the time!”
The group all became listless, pitiful little things, resigned to using candles as if they had returned to life in the nineties. Because the candlelight was too dim to do homework, most people just chatted or played on their phones at their desks.
Xu Wuhuan has poor eyesight and couldn’t do homework, so she leaned on her desk and chatted with Yuan Lai.
Yuan Lai suddenly spotted something and whispered, “Hey, the person in front of you seems to have a lot of novels. Let’s borrow a few from her.”
Yuan Lai is a novel enthusiast, but since their class had only recently been reshuffled, most people were still strangers. Yuan Lai wasn’t very familiar with her.
The person in front of Xu Wuhuan was Zhong Yan. Sure enough, there were several brightly colored novels stacked on her desk. She and her deskmate were reading by the light of a candle, an image strongly reminiscent of studying by lamp light in ancient times. Xu Wuhuan found the sight amusing and couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
Xu Wuhuan poked her on the back. Zhong Yan turned around blankly: “???”
In the dim, yellow glow of the candle, her face looked very serene. The light fell on her brows and eyes, making her look peaceful and obedient.
Xu Wuhuan smiled. “Can I borrow a couple of novels from you?”
Zhong Yan snapped out of her daze. “Oh, sure.”
She took the books from her desk, just about to pick some out for Xu Wuhuan, when her deskmate suddenly shrieked, “Holy shit, a mouse!”
Upon hearing this, Zhong Yan was scared out of her wits. Everyone around them jumped up from their seats, panicking, and shrieks rose one after another.
The mouse scurried right by Zhong Yan’s feet. Zhong Yan screamed, her hand shaking, and she threw the book directly at Xu Wuhuan’s face.
Xu Wuhuan, hit in the face: “…”
This was probably the definition of an unexpected disaster.
It wasn’t over yet. Zhong Yan was terrified of mice. All sense of reason and calm vanished. In her panic, she scrambled out of her seat and hid behind Xu Wuhuan. Xu Wuhuan was about to tell her it was fine, but then the mouse ran past Yuan Lai’s feet. Most girls are afraid of mice. Yuan Lai was so frightened that she jumped around in her seat, and all the girls around her did the same.
In the dark, Xu Wuhuan only heard shrill screams, which made her head reel. Zhong Yan tightly gripped the fabric on her back. Xu Wuhuan felt like her skin was about to be pinched off.
“No, Zhong Yan, don’t—Oh shit!” Before Xu Wuhuan could finish her sentence, a push came from her back. She couldn’t control her balance and, along with Zhong Yan, began to fall forward. Reflexively, Xu Wuhuan shielded Zhong Yan with her body.
“Thud!” Xu Wuhuan’s head hit the ground, with Zhong Yan sprawled on top of her.
The mouse was finally caught by one of the boys. The class recovered from the chaotic frenzy.
“Zhong Yan, get up quickly,” Xu Wuhuan reminded her.
Zhong Yan finally realized their proximity. They were so close that their noses were almost touching, and Xu Wuhuan’s beautiful features were magnified right in front of her.
Zhong Yan’s cheeks flushed crimson. She scrambled to her feet, pulled Xu Wuhuan up, and apologized profusely, utterly embarrassed. “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry!”
Xu Wuhuan stood up. When she fell just now, she had instinctively used her left hand to brace herself, causing the wound to reopen and bleed slightly.
She hid her hand behind her back and comforted her, “It’s fine.”
Zhong Yan also felt that she had been incredibly embarrassing—scared witless just by a mouse. She was frustrated; she just couldn’t help being terrified of mice.
The class settled down. Some people had accidentally knocked over their candles, but thankfully, no books were burned; it just made the classroom even darker.
Xu Wuhuan returned the books to Zhong Yan. Her candle had been knocked over, so she couldn’t see to read anymore. “I can’t see them now, so I’ll give them back.”
Zhong Yan looked down, fiddling with her fingers, and stammered, “Um… why don’t you keep them? Just give them back when you’re done.”
Xu Wuhuan saw her looking down, frowning uncomfortably, her small face practically crumpled like a bun, so she didn’t refuse.
“Shit, it’s a hamster,” one of the boys said.
The hamster had been bought by a female student before evening study hall, and it had accidentally escaped. The class was suddenly left in stunned amusement.
So, a whole group of people were scared half to death just by a hamster?
“It’s genuinely terrifying when a mouse suddenly appears late at night,” Yuan Lai complained, still visibly shaken.
Xu Wuhuan didn’t speak, using a tissue to wipe the blood from her left hand. Yuan Lai saw it and exclaimed, “Why is your hand bleeding?”
“I probably scraped it when I fell.”
Yuan Lai wanted to find a candle to look at Xu Wuhuan’s hand, but she didn’t know where she had flung hers. “Hey, where’s my candle?”
Xu Wuhuan clicked her tongue. “You must have lost it when you were freaking out.”
“Well, I was scared! After all, I’m an Omega,” Yuan Lai said, even putting on airs.
Xu Wuhuan scoffed, and suddenly, a light appeared in front of her.
Zhong Yan gave her her own candle. She had clearly heard their conversation and moved her stool close to Xu Wuhuan’s desk so they were facing each other.
Xu Wuhuan raised an eyebrow. “Mhm?”
Zhong Yan blinked her large eyes and whispered, “Did your left hand split open?”
In the faint candlelight, Zhong Yan’s eyes looked incredibly obedient, her dark pupils shining, and her lips tightly pursed. She was like a harmless, endearing little hamster, so well-behaved that it felt like a sin to get angry at her.
Xu Wuhuan smiled softly, her eyes curving. “It’s not a big deal. You don’t need to feel guilty.”
The candlelight spilled into Xu Wuhuan’s eyes, illuminating a soft pool of light. Undoubtedly, Xu Wuhuan looked gentle and graceful in the candlelight.
Zhong Yan thought that this Alpha didn’t look like an Alpha at all. How could an Alpha be so peaceful and beautiful?
The power didn’t come back on, so the school had no choice but to let them leave.
Xu Wuhuan was a day student, and Yuan Lai was a boarder. Usually, Xu Wuhuan walked home alone.
As she stepped out of the school gate, someone suddenly called out to her.
Xu Wuhuan turned and saw Zhong Yan running towards her.
Zhong Yan caught up to her, breathing heavily. “Xu Wuhuan, why are you walking so fast?”
“Because my legs are long,” Xu Wuhuan joked.
Zhong Yan looked at her own legs and pouted, dissatisfied. Then she took something out of a bag and handed it to her. “I bought this band-aid from the school store just now. It’s for you.”
Xu Wuhuan thought to herself that she actually had plenty of them, but she didn’t want to hurt Zhong Yan’s feelings. She smiled and accepted it. “Thanks.”
“And also,” Zhong Yan took a piece of candy out of the bag. “I bought this too. Since it’s evening, I was worried you might get cavities if you ate too much, so I just bought you one.”
Her expression was very serious, completely unaware that, in Xu Wuhuan’s eyes, she was inexplicably and incredibly cute.
Xu Wuhuan took the candy. Seeing her face flushed from running, she couldn’t resist pinching her cheek. “Why are you so thoughtful, like an Omega?”
Zhong Yan pouted and mumbled indistinctly, “Ow, stop pinching my face! It’s already fat enough.”
Xu Wuhuan let go. Zhong Yan used her hand to touch her own cheek, as if she could pat the fat back into place. “This is just payment for being my human cushion earlier.”
Someone was calling Zhong Yan. Zhong Yan gave Xu Wuhuan a sweet smile. “I’m leaving now. Bye-bye.”
Xu Wuhuan watched her ponytail bounce as she hopped away, the smile on her lips deepening.
She tore open the wrapper and popped the candy into her mouth.
It was quite sweet.
