After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 1
September.
Today was the first day of school for all the students across the country. Jiang Youli was dallying at home for a while before finally hopping on her bike and zipping out the door. If her dad, Jiang Xiyuan, hadn’t been away, she would have been chased out of the house to school long ago.
Jiang Youli had never cared about school.
She had lost count of how many times she had been last in her grade. At school, she was a chaotic devil-may-care leader. She had already befriended the high school “bosses” in middle school, and now in her first year of high school, she had already gathered a good number of followers.
Li Henian watched Jiang Youli’s figure disappear like the wind on her bike, shaking his head helplessly. He had no idea who Jiang Youli had gotten her personality from.
It was certainly not from him or Jiang Xiyuan.
September is a romantic season, with a wisp of early autumn fragrance in the air.
Jiang Youli was on her way to Jiangcheng No. 1 High School, leisurely riding her bike and humming a tune. She didn’t expect to run into the person she hated the most so soon after leaving home.
—Lu Yaoyi.
Lu Yaoyi was riding her bike a short distance ahead.
Lu Yaoyi was Jiang Youli’s neighbor’s daughter. They had known each other since they were toddlers, and this was their sixteenth year of knowing each other.
Having grown up together, they should have been childhood friends and besties.
Instead, they had never gotten along.
Because Jiang Youli absolutely detested Lu Yaoyi.
Not only did Lu Yaoyi have perfect, flawless skin and a beautiful face that surpassed all others, but she was also an A-grade student who was loved by everyone.
Because she was so exceptional, Jiang Youli constantly heard people praising Lu Yaoyi.
Since kindergarten, she had never been able to escape topics about Lu Yaoyi. The number of people who had a crush on Lu Yaoyi was countless. The most important thing was that, ever since she was a child, Lu Yaoyi was the “ideal daughter” her two fathers always talked about. So no matter how she looked at Lu Yaoyi, she couldn’t stand her. Her favorite thing to do was bully Lu Yaoyi.
As long as Lu Yaoyi was unhappy, she was happy.
She already hated Lu Yaoyi enough, but during the summer break, Lu Yaoyi had even differentiated into an extremely rare Omega, a national-treasure-level S-class Omega at that.
Lu Yaoyi becoming an S-class Omega would only make her more popular.
Jiang Youli still hadn’t differentiated.
Although her physical exam report said she had a 99% chance of differentiating into an Omega, she was still mad that Lu Yaoyi had become an S-class Omega. And to make things worse, they were even in the same class in high school. How could Lu Yaoyi be such a persistent nuisance?
And so, she hated Lu Yaoyi even more.
She looked at Lu Yaoyi’s back as she rode her bike ahead, a slight smile forming on her lips as her eyes darkened. She then pedaled faster, charging forward.
Bang!
The two bicycles crashed into each other.
Jiang Youli deliberately used her front wheel to hit the back wheel of Lu Yaoyi’s bike. Watching Lu Yaoyi almost fall over, looking slightly flustered, Jiang Youli was in a great mood and let out a laugh. “Lu Yaoyi, the road is so wide. Why do you have to block my way?”
Lu Yaoyi was silent.
If she hadn’t managed to stabilize herself and stop in time, she probably would have fallen.
She knew Jiang Youli had done it on purpose.
Jiang Youli had been picking on her for no reason ever since they were kids. She turned to look at Jiang Youli calmly, her tone flat. “The road is so wide, yet you still managed to crash into me.”
“Your eyesight is really something.”
Jiang Youli was thick-skinned and wasn’t afraid of Lu Yaoyi’s sarcasm.
“I can do whatever I want. What’s it to you?”
With that, she continued riding forward. As she passed Lu Yaoyi, she didn’t forget to kick Lu Yaoyi’s bike as a final provocation.
Ah, that felt so much better now.
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli’s carefree disappearing figure and muttered under her breath.
“You childish brat.”
Jiang Youli was still happy from provoking Lu Yaoyi when she suddenly found her back tire was punctured by a random nail, and it went flat.
She had no choice but to stop and sullenly push her bike forward.
Soon after, Lu Yaoyi’s figure appeared behind her.
Without a second thought, Jiang Youli rushed up and blocked Lu Yaoyi’s path. “Lu Yaoyi, my bike tire is flat, and I can’t ride it. We’re going to be late. Give me a ride.”
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli. “You’re afraid of being late?”
“Of course, I am. I’m a model student,” Jiang Youli said with a straight face, even though she didn’t believe it herself. “Good students shouldn’t be late for school.”
“Especially not on the first day.”
Lu Yaoyi said, “Didn’t you just say I was blocking your way?”
“Let’s not talk about what just happened,” Jiang Youli said without a change in expression. “We need to look forward, not live in the past, okay?”
Lu Yaoyi was silent.
While it wasn’t the first time she had seen Jiang Youli’s brazenness, she was sometimes truly impressed by how thick-skinned she could be. She wouldn’t let Jiang Youli get her way. “In your dreams.”
Jiang Youli frowned. “Why do you hold a grudge?”
Lu Yaoyi retorted, “What’s it to you?”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
What goes around comes around.
“We’ve been neighbors for over ten years,” Jiang Youli said, grabbing the handlebars of Lu Yaoyi’s bike. “How can you have no sympathy?”
“My tire is flat.”
“Lu Yaoyi, don’t be so petty.”
Lu Yaoyi didn’t believe for a second that Jiang Youli would behave herself on her bike. In the past, whenever she was soft-hearted, she would always get tricked by Jiang Youli. Who knew what kind of trick Jiang Youli was planning now? “Helping me is a favor, not helping me is your duty.”
She seemed to have a hidden meaning in her words. “You hate me so much.”
“What kind of favor can there be between us?”
Jiang Youli had no response.
She didn’t deny hating Lu Yaoyi. Although there was no favor between them, she was thick-skinned. She just wanted to drag Lu Yaoyi into being late with her.
Just as Jiang Youli was about to pester Lu Yaoyi shamelessly, Lu Yaoyi suddenly said, “If you keep blocking me, I’m going to scream that you’re sexually harassing me.”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Lu Yaoyi added, “Sexual harassment of an Omega by an Alpha is a serious crime.”
In this unequal world of gender and rank suppression, the rare and delicate Omega is a key protected species. An Alpha’s pheromones can suppress an Omega and even cause them to go into heat prematurely.
Once an Alpha enters their susceptible period, it’s difficult for them to control themselves and not harm Omegas without the use of suppressants. Because of this, the nation has a very strict law.
Under any circumstances, if an Alpha harms or sexually harasses an Omega, they will be sentenced to twenty years in prison. In severe cases, they can even be sentenced to life imprisonment or death. Since this law was enacted, society has become much more stable, and it’s now very rare for an Alpha to harm an Omega unless they are out of their mind and looking for death.
Jiang Youli’s mind drew a blank.
That’s so random. She’s not an Alpha.
“Lu Yaoyi, I’m not an Alpha.”
Lu Yaoyi looked Jiang Youli straight in the eyes and said slowly, “Even if you’re just an underdeveloped Beta, Beta sexual harassment of an Omega is still a serious crime.”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Why was she making a personal attack now?
So what if she was an undeveloped Beta? So what if Lu Yaoyi had differentiated into an S-class Omega? Was being an S-class Omega so great? Who was she looking down on? She gritted her teeth and said, “Lu Yaoyi, I’m not sexually harassing you!”
“So what if you’re an S-class Omega?”
“Even if I was just a Beta who likes Beta-Beta relationships, I wouldn’t be interested in you, okay!”
Hearing this, the look in Lu Yaoyi’s eyes suddenly became complicated. She coldly threw down a final sentence and rode away on her bike. “That’s for the best.”
Jiang Youli stared at Lu Yaoyi’s retreating back. “What’s for the best?”
Her face was turning green with anger. “It’s a definite! Not ‘for the best’!”
She would never be interested in Lu Yaoyi in her entire life!
