After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 11
Around six in the evening, Cen Ziqin and the others were called home for dinner by their parents. Jiang Youli was once again home alone, lounging on the couch.
However, it wasn’t long before Jiang Xiyuan and Li Henian returned.
As soon as Li Henian got home, he went to the kitchen to make dinner.
Jiang Xiyuan helped him out.
Jiang Youli, meanwhile, lay on the sofa watching TV. Her dads had been so in love for so many years. She had once been told that her name, “Dingding,” was their way of showing affection for each other. She had to agree.
After dinner, Jiang Youli continued to lie on the sofa, watching TV and playing on her phone.
Jiang Xiyuan finished washing the dishes and came out of the kitchen.
He walked up to the sofa and looked at Jiang Youli. “Dingding, go upstairs and change. We’re going to the hospital to visit Yaoyao later.”
Jiang Youli reflexively refused. “Dad, I’m not going.”
Jiang Xiyuan looked down at her. “Why not?”
“I…” Jiang Youli started.
“Hm?” Jiang Xiyuan hummed.
Of course, Jiang Youli couldn’t tell Jiang Xiyuan the truth. If she went to the hospital to see Lu Yaoyi, Lu Yaoyi would probably make fun of her. She didn’t want Lu Yaoyi to think she was worried about her. So, she softened her voice and said pitifully, “Dad, you can see I’m in no state to go out.”
She suddenly covered her abdomen. “And my stomach still hurts.”
“Dad, I’ll just stay home and rest. Anyway, if I want to see Lu Yaoyi, I can just go to her house anytime. It’s not a big deal if it’s not today.”
Jiang Xiyuan thought for a moment and then agreed. “Okay, you stay home and rest.”
“Got it,” Jiang Youli said obediently.
Soon after, Jiang Xiyuan and Li Henian left.
Jiang Youli stood at the window, watching the black Bentley disappear into the night. In a daze, Lu Yaoyi’s cold but beautiful face suddenly appeared in the reflection on the glass. She unconsciously said, “I wonder how that annoying girl Lu Yaoyi is doing.”
She paused, then waved her hand dismissively.
“Hmph, what do I care about her.”
Then she closed the curtains and went back to the sofa to continue lying down, watching TV and playing on her phone.
Around 9:30 in the evening, Jiang Xiyuan and Li Henian returned home with several bags.
They were all filled with snacks Jiang Youli loved.
Jiang Youli sat up on the sofa and looked at Jiang Xiyuan and Li Henian as they walked from the front door into the living room. “Dad, Little Dad, you’re back.”
Jiang Xiyuan walked over with the bags. “Yep.”
Li Henian also walked over and placed the bags on the coffee table. “Dingding, these are all your favorite snacks. If you want anything else, just tell your dad to go out and buy it for you.”
Hearing this, Jiang Xiyuan looked at Li Henian affectionately but said nothing.
“Okay,” Jiang Youli said with a smile.
Jiang Xiyuan turned and walked toward the stairs. “I’m going upstairs first. I’ll take a shower later.”
“Okay,” Li Henian said.
He then turned to look at Jiang Youli. “Dingding, Yaoyao still hasn’t woken up yet, but she’s recovering well. Don’t worry too much about her.”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Did I say I was worried about her?
What’s wrong with my Little Dad?
She suddenly felt like Li Henian was trying to set her up with Lu Yaoyi. She unhappily said, “Little Dad, I’m not worried about Lu Yaoyi.”
Li Henian looked at her without saying anything.
After a few seconds of silence, he walked over and sat next to her. “Dingding.”
“Did you and Yaoyao get into a fight?” he asked.
Jiang Youli was stunned.
“Why do I feel like you really hate Yaoyao?” Li Henian asked.
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Is it that obvious?
She wouldn’t admit it. “No, I don’t hate Lu Yaoyi.”
Li Henian stared at her, as if trying to find the answer he wanted in her flustered eyes. “Really? You’re not lying to me?”
“Of course not,” Jiang Youli said with certainty.
Li Henian was still suspicious.
After all, he rarely saw Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi hanging out together.
Their families had been neighbors for so many years.
But Jiang Youli had hardly ever brought Lu Yaoyi home to play.
“Little Dad, I just think that since Lu Yaoyi is in the hospital, I can rest assured,” Jiang Youli defended herself earnestly. “Little Dad, we have to trust the doctors, right? Don’t overthink it.”
“Okay,” Li Henian said. “I believe you.”
He chose to trust his daughter.
“But Little Dad,” Jiang Youli said, immediately sitting up straight and looking at him seriously. “I advise you to give up on the idea of setting me up with Lu Yaoyi. You know I’m going to differentiate into an Omega. I will only ever like Alphas.”
“We can talk about that after you find an Alpha you want to spend your life with,” Li Henian said. He really liked Lu Yaoyi, so he didn’t take Jiang Youli’s words too seriously. “Until you find one, your dad and I will only recognize Yaoyao as our daughter-in-law.”
Jiang Youli was left speechless. She said to herself in her head, Hmph, Lu Yaoyi will never be our family’s daughter-in-law.
Li Henian gently stroked Jiang Youli’s head. “Go to bed early.”
“Goodnight, sweetie.”
With that, he stood up and walked away.
Jiang Youli was speechless.
What was that all about?
••••
Time flew by, and soon it was Friday.
Since the incident on Tuesday afternoon, Jiang Youli had been comfortably resting at home for three days. When she was hungry, Jiang Xiyuan would go out and buy her delicious food. When she was bored, he would play games with her. And now she had two more days of lounging around since it was the weekend.
In the morning, after eating breakfast, Jiang Youli lay on the sofa in the living room playing a game.
Jiang Xiyuan had left to take Li Henian to his law firm.
About an hour and a half later, Jiang Xiyuan returned home with a few bags of Jiang Youli’s favorite snacks. He had just walked in the door and changed into his slippers when his phone rang. He put the bags on the cabinet by the front door, took his phone out of his pocket, and saw that it was Lu Meishan calling.
He answered the call. “Hello? What’s wrong, Meishan?”
Lu Meishan’s voice came through the phone.
“Xiyuan, Yaoyao is awake.”
They talked for a few more moments and then hung up.
Jiang Xiyuan walked into the living room with the bags and saw Jiang Youli lying on the sofa, playing on her phone. He walked over to her. “Dingding, Yaoyao is awake.”
Then he put the bags on the coffee table.
Jiang Youli was stunned.
Lu Yaoyi is awake?
She looked up at Jiang Xiyuan.
“Wanna come with me to the hospital to see her later?” Jiang Xiyuan asked.
Jiang Youli hesitated. “I…”
“You don’t want to go again?” Jiang Xiyuan asked.
“No… It’s not that I don’t want to go,” Jiang Youli said. She wouldn’t tell Jiang Xiyuan and Li Henian the truth. “I just made plans with some friends to hang out later, and I can’t back out of them, so… I guess I can’t go.”
Jiang Xiyuan’s tone became a little more serious. “Are those friends more important than Yaoyao?”
“No,” Jiang Youli said, looking troubled. “It’s about keeping my word.”
“Dad, you taught me that, remember?”
She and Lu Yaoyi had bad karma.
Lu Yaoyi was now awake.
No matter what, she wouldn’t go to the hospital to see her.
After a moment of silence, Jiang Xiyuan finally agreed. “Come home early, and be safe.”
As a father, he had to keep his promise.
Although it was strange, he chose to believe Jiang Youli.
“Don’t worry,” Jiang Youli said with a smile. “I’ll be home early.”
“Okay,” Jiang Xiyuan said.
Then he turned and left.
Jiang Youli watched his back until he disappeared from view.
She sighed in relief.
However, she didn’t just stay put.
She immediately went upstairs to her room, changed her clothes, and left the house.
She had to pretend she was going to meet her friends.
Soon after, Jiang Xiyuan arrived at the hospital.
He pushed the door to the hospital room open and saw Lu Yaoyi sitting alone on the bed.
Lu Yaoyi greeted him politely. “Uncle Jiang, you’re here.”
She then looked past Jiang Xiyuan.
But she didn’t see the person she wanted to see the most.
Jiang Xiyuan walked in. “Why are you here by yourself? Where’s your other mom?”
“Mom went downstairs to buy something,” Lu Yaoyi said, still looking past Jiang Xiyuan with a hopeful expression. She desperately wished the person she missed would walk into the room right at that moment. “She should be back soon.”
Jiang Xiyuan looked at Lu Yaoyi’s beautiful face.
Lu Yaoyi’s complexion was rosy, and she looked like she was recovering well.
“How are you? How do you feel?” Jiang Xiyuan asked.
“I’m feeling great now,” Lu Yaoyi said. “Thank you for your concern, Uncle Jiang.”
“You’re welcome,” Jiang Xiyuan said.
“Uncle Jiang, please have a seat,” Lu Yaoyi said.
“Okay,” Jiang Xiyuan said.
He walked over and sat on the sofa.
“Uncle Jiang,” Lu Yaoyi said.
“Hm?” Jiang Xiyuan hummed.
Lu Yaoyi couldn’t help but ask, “Did… Dingding not come?”
“She said she had plans to hang out with some friends,” Jiang Xiyuan said.
“So she didn’t come.”
Hearing this, Lu Yaoyi’s eyes dimmed with disappointment.
Her calm tone was filled with sadness.
“Okay.”
She knew Jiang Youli hated her and didn’t want to see her at the hospital.
But she really wanted to see Jiang Youli.
She wanted to see her so, so badly.
••••
After leaving the house, Jiang Youli had nowhere to go.
It was Friday, and Chen Huaian and the others were at school. She had also heard that the dean of students was being particularly strict today, so they didn’t even have a chance to climb the wall to skip class. They had no choice but to stay in school until it was over.
Jiang Youli sent a text message to Jiang Xiyuan, telling him she would be home in the afternoon.
Then she went to a Starbucks and sat there for a few hours.
Around two in the afternoon, she couldn’t sit still anymore and left.
It was a beautiful, sunny day.
Jiang Youli wandered aimlessly down the street alone and unintentionally found herself in front of Jiangcheng No. 1 People’s Hospital. She stood there, staring at the words “Jiangcheng No. 1 People’s Hospital,” and her mind was filled with questions.
How did I end up at a hospital?
This is so weird.
She looked down at her feet, annoyed. “Why did you bring me to a hospital?”
She was so mad.
Then she annoyedly slapped her forehead and turned to leave.
She took a few steps and then stopped.
After a few seconds, she turned around and looked at the hospital.
She suddenly remembered what Chen Huaian had said last time: an S-class Omega’s heat would be much more difficult to endure. She then remembered how Lu Yaoyi had been lying on the ground.
Lu Yaoyi seemed to be suffering much more than she had imagined.
Since I’m already here, I might as well go in and take a look, right?
It’s not like it’s going to hurt me.
She found a plausible excuse to go into the hospital.
I saved Lu Yaoyi’s life, after all.
If Lu Yaoyi was recovering well, she, as her lifesaver, would feel like it was worth it.
At least she didn’t get beaten up for nothing.
However, before she went in, she went to a nearby store and bought a face mask and a baseball cap to cover her face. She also tied her hair up into a ponytail.
Then she went into the hospital.
She had just walked into the entrance when she realized she didn’t know which room Lu Yaoyi was in.
Just then, a familiar voice came from behind her.
“Dingding, what are you doing here?”
Jiang Youli immediately recognized the voice as Auntie Guan Luyu’s.
Damn it.
She didn’t want anyone to know she was here.
What would happen if Lu Yaoyi found out she was here?
She walked forward, pretending she hadn’t heard anything.
Guan Luyu looked at Jiang Youli’s back strangely. “Dingding?”
Jiang Youli just wanted to run away now.
She regretted going out today.
She quickened her pace and quickly disappeared into the crowd ahead.
Guan Luyu was speechless.
She had watched Jiang Youli grow up.
She couldn’t be mistaken.
She knew the girl with the face mask and ponytail was Jiang Youli.
From her height and body shape to her scent.
And she knew from her scent that she was a Beta.
But why did Jiang Youli pretend she didn’t know her?
Soon after, Guan Luyu arrived at Lu Yaoyi’s hospital room.
She walked in and asked, “Yaoyao, has Dingding been here?”
Lu Yaoyi’s expression was sad. “No.”
“She didn’t come? But I just saw her downstairs,” Guan Luyu said.
Hearing this, Lu Yaoyi’s eyes lit up instantly.
She looked up at Guan Luyu. “Really?”
“Of course, it’s real. Mom has watched Dingding grow up. How could I mistake her?” Guan Luyu walked over and sat next to Lu Meishan. “But I don’t know what’s wrong with her today. She was wearing a mask and a hat. If we hadn’t been neighbors for so many years and weren’t so familiar with her, I probably wouldn’t have recognized her.”
Lu Yaoyi’s eyes shimmered.
Jiang Youli had secretly come to the hospital without telling anyone.
She was so happy.
But the joy that had spread from the corners of her lips to her eyebrows was quickly hidden.
Lu Meishan suddenly said, “Did Dingding wear a mask because her face isn’t healed yet?”
“Probably,” Guan Luyu said. “Otherwise, she wouldn’t have worn a mask.”
“Mom,” Lu Yaoyi said.
Guan Luyu and Lu Meishan said in unison, “Hm?”
Lu Yaoyi lowered her head. “When can I be discharged?”
“The doctor said all your vitals are back to normal,” Lu Meishan said to Lu Yaoyi. “If you want to be discharged, you can go through the procedures tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Lu Yaoyi said. “I’ll be discharged tomorrow.”
“Yaoyao,” Guan Luyu asked. “Why are you in such a hurry to be discharged?”
The light in Lu Yaoyi’s eyes was gentle. “I want to go home and see Dingding.”
She wanted to see Jiang Youli. She couldn’t wait any longer.
