After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 36
On the weekend, Jiang Youli’s sixteenth birthday party was scheduled for the evening.
Li Henian planned to make a feast to celebrate Jiang Youli’s sixteenth birthday with Lu Yaoyi’s family. After they finished breakfast and tidied up the kitchen, Li Henian found that they didn’t have enough ingredients, so he decided to go to a big supermarket to buy more.
He grabbed his car keys and walked to the entrance in the living room. As he was changing his shoes, he heard Jiang Youli’s pleasant voice behind him. “Little Dad, where are you going?”
Li Henian stopped changing his shoes and turned to look at her. “Yaoyao’s family is coming over tonight to celebrate your birthday, so I’m going to the supermarket to buy some ingredients to make some good food. Dingding, do you want to come with me to the supermarket?”
Jiang Youli thought for a moment. She was just bored at home anyway, so she might as well go to the supermarket with Li Henian to buy some snacks and get some fresh air. So she agreed. “Little Dad, wait for me, I’m going upstairs to change.”
On weekends, she usually stayed at home in her pajamas, lying around like a lazy person.
Li Henian looked at Jiang Youli in her light red pajamas and smiled slightly. “Okay, go change. I’ll wait for you here.”
Jiang Youli nodded obediently. “Okay, Little Dad.” She then turned and ran upstairs.
A moment later, Jiang Youli came downstairs in a loose, long casual outfit. The weather wasn’t cold, and it was even a little hot. She had wanted to wear shorts, but she was afraid her lower body would be too noticeable, so she gave up on that idea. She still wasn’t used to the ugly thing that had grown on her. It was especially awkward when she woke up in the morning. The physiological phenomena of an Alpha were giving her a huge headache. Sometimes, she really regretted differentiating into an Alpha. Sigh…
She came downstairs and walked to the entrance. “Little Dad, let’s go.”
“Okay, let’s go,” Li Henian said.
Li Henian drove Jiang Youli to a large shopping mall in the city center. It was the weekend, and there were a lot of people in the city center, especially since it wasn’t even 8:30 a.m. yet. The mall was already packed with people.
Since she differentiated, Jiang Youli hadn’t been a fan of crowded places because there were too many Alphas and Omegas, and the scents of their pheromones were all mixed together. She felt like the whole world was a mix of colorful pheromones. But she could only bear with it.
After Li Henian and Jiang Youli entered the mall, they went straight to the food section on the third floor. The food section included vegetables, seafood, fruits, and meat. Since the seafood section was the closest to the escalator, they went there first.
They walked through the seafood section, looking at the wide array of seafood. Jiang Youli pushed the shopping cart and followed behind Li Henian. Li Henian suddenly stopped and looked at the glass tanks filled with various types of seafood. He couldn’t remember what seafood Lu Yaoyi liked to eat, so he thought for a moment, took out his phone from his pocket, and said to Jiang Youli, “Dingding, if you like sea prawns, go buy them over there first. I’ll call Yaoyao and ask her what seafood she likes.”
“Little Dad, you don’t have to call her,” Jiang Youli took a step forward and pressed down on Li Henian’s hand, which was about to make a call. “I know what she likes. She doesn’t like seafood much, just sea prawns, like me. She can just eat sea prawns with me.” She then glanced at the glass tanks filled with various seafood. “As for the other seafood… Little Dad, you can just buy whatever you think is good.”
Li Henian looked at the serious Jiang Youli and thought for a moment. “I’ll still call Yaoyao. Besides sea prawns, there are other things to eat. Yaoyao hasn’t been to our house for a long time. I have to ask her what she likes and then make it for her.”
When Jiang Youli heard that, she said without hesitation, “Little Dad, you can just ask me what she likes. You really don’t have to call her and waste time.”
Li Henian slightly raised an eyebrow. “Then tell me what she likes to eat.”
“She likes chicken wings and pork ribs, and she also likes bean sprouts, eggplant, and potatoes. She doesn’t like fatty meat, not even a little bit,” Jiang Youli said. “She’s even a pickier eater than me.”
Li Henian looked at Jiang Youli with a gentle expression and didn’t say anything.
“She also doesn’t like mushrooms and enoki mushrooms. You can buy some lean pork to make stir-fried meat with chili later,” Jiang Youli continued, talking a lot about the foods Lu Yaoyi liked. “Oh, right, she also likes spring roll wrappers with roasted duck. Anyway, she can’t eat that much by herself, so you can just make a few of her favorite dishes.”
Li Henian asked, “Are you sure you remembered correctly?”
“Of course I did,” Jiang Youli looked at Li Henian seriously and confidently. “Little Dad, I’ve known her for so long. I would never remember wrong.”
After hearing what Jiang Youli said, Li Henian’s expression suddenly became very strange. He really didn’t expect Jiang Youli to know so much about what Lu Yaoyi liked to eat. Even he didn’t remember what Lu Yaoyi liked, and Jiang Youli was so confident that she hadn’t remembered wrong. He looked at Jiang Youli’s eyes and asked meaningfully, “Dingding, do you remember what Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan like to eat?”
Jiang Youli was speechless. She really didn’t remember what Lu Meishan and Guan Luyu liked to eat. So she smiled awkwardly. “How about… you call and ask Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan?”
Li Henian suddenly couldn’t control his laughter. So this was Jiang Youli’s so-called dislike for Lu Yaoyi, but she remembered all of Lu Yaoyi’s preferences so clearly? He was about to tease his precious daughter, but in the end, he didn’t.
Jiang Youli was speechless. She looked at the very happy Li Henian and couldn’t help but ask, “Little Dad, what are you laughing at?”
“Nothing, I just suddenly think our Dingding is very cute,” Li Henian said, laughing and patting Jiang Youli’s head. “I’ll call Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan now and ask them what they like to eat. Tonight, Dad is going to show off his cooking skills.”
Jiang Youli nodded. “Okay.”
After that, she suddenly suggested, “Little Dad, how about we split up?”
Li Henian looked at Jiang Youli. “How?”
“I’ll go buy fruits, drinks, and snacks, and you can buy seafood, meat, and vegetables over here. How about that?” Jiang Youli said, pushing the shopping cart in front of Li Henian. “Little Dad, you can use this shopping cart. I’ll go get another one later.”
“Okay,” Li Henian grabbed the shopping cart. “Go ahead.”
The two of them split up.
By the time Jiang Youli and Li Henian walked out of the mall with their two shopping carts, it was already 10:30 a.m. On the way home, Li Henian suddenly asked Jiang Youli, “Dingding, what flavor of cake do you want today? Later, when I call your dad to come home, I’ll tell him to pick up the cake from your favorite cake shop.” He then looked at Jiang Youli, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
Jiang Youli looked at the scenery outside the window and said blandly, “Anything is fine.”
“Okay,” Li Henian said.
The two of them got home at 11 a.m. Li Henian went to the kitchen and cooked some pasta for them to eat, and in the afternoon, he was completely busy in the kitchen. Jiang Youli lay on the sofa, bored, playing on her phone and watching TV. When she got tired, she would just lie on the sofa and sleep. She was so bored she was practically growing mold.
Around 3 p.m., Jiang Xiyuan walked in with a cake. He walked into the living room and saw Jiang Youli sleeping on the sofa. He walked over, put the cake on the coffee table, picked up the blanket from the small sofa, and gently covered Jiang Youli with it. Even though he was being very careful, Jiang Youli, who had just fallen asleep, woke up.
Jiang Youli opened her bloodshot eyes and looked at Jiang Xiyuan. Her voice was hoarse and low from just waking up. “Dad… when… when did you get back?”
“Just now,” Jiang Xiyuan said. “Go upstairs and sleep in your room.”
Jiang Youli shook her head. “No, I’ll just lie here for a bit.”
“Okay,” Jiang Xiyuan covered her with the blanket. “Then you sleep for a bit longer. I’m going to the kitchen to help your little dad . I’ll come wake you up later.”
Jiang Youli found a comfortable position and closed her eyes. “Okay.”
The sun set and hid behind the western horizon. The sky gradually became dark, covering the bustling and lively Jiangcheng. The streets and alleys began to light up. The entire city was quickly decorated with brilliant lights.
Jiang Youli sat in the living room watching TV. Li Henian and Jiang Xiyuan were still busy in the kitchen. She had wanted to go to the kitchen to help them, but her two dads, who had always spoiled her and never made her work, shooed her out of the kitchen because they found her to be in the way. She was helpless.
After some time, the doorbell rang.
“Dingding,” Jiang Xiyuan’s voice came. “Go open the door for Aunt Lu and her family.”
Jiang Youli responded, “Got it.” She then got up from the sofa and jogged to the entrance to open the door.
When the door opened, a refreshing scent came over her. Jiang Youli’s heart skipped a beat as she looked at Lu Yaoyi standing at the door. Under the night lights, Lu Yaoyi’s skin was as white as jade and as flawless as cream. She was as pure and otherworldly as a fairy untouched by a speck of dust. Jiang Youli suddenly understood why so many people liked Lu Yaoyi. It was hard not to like such a beautiful Omega.
She blinked and quickly composed herself. Hmph, she didn’t like her.
Just then, she saw Lu Meishan and Guan Luyu smiling and shaking the gift boxes in their hands. “Dingding, happy sixteenth birthday!” they said. “This is your birthday gift.”
Jiang Youli took a big step to the side and gave Lu Meishan and Guan Luyu a beautiful smile in return. “Thank you, Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan. Please come in.”
That night, the two families enjoyed dinner in a very joyful atmosphere. Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi sat across from each other. Despite the small unpleasantness that happened in the nurse’s office on Friday, they both tacitly agreed to pretend that nothing had happened and acted like they had a very good relationship in front of their parents. This was a habit they had formed after knowing each other for so many years.
Jiang Youli was thick-skinned and didn’t take anything to heart. She happily put food on Lu Yaoyi’s plate. Lu Yaoyi, not to be outdone, also put food on Jiang Youli’s plate. They finished their dinner in a very harmonious atmosphere.
The four adults still didn’t know about their 99% perfect pheromone compatibility. They also didn’t plan on telling their parents about it.
After dinner, the two families sat in the living room and chatted. Jiang Youli chatted with Lu Meishan and Guan Luyu for a while, but she couldn’t sit still anymore, so she made an excuse and went up to her room. She stood on her balcony, staring blankly at the bright moon in the night sky. The night breeze blew her hair, and her features looked especially delicate and beautiful under the moonlight.
Her thoughts drifted far away. She didn’t know what she was thinking about, or maybe she wasn’t thinking about anything at all.
After a while, there was a knock on her bedroom door.
“Knock, knock, knock—”
“Come in,” Jiang Youli responded. She turned and looked at the door.
Lu Yaoyi pushed open the door and entered Jiang Youli’s sight. Jiang Youli was a little surprised as she looked at Lu Yaoyi. “Why are you here?”
“My mom and your dad are chatting happily in the living room. They told me to come to your room to talk to you,” Lu Yaoyi said calmly as she walked in. “I’ll stay in your room for ten minutes, and then I’ll leave.”
“Fine,” Jiang Youli said. “I’ll be merciful and let you stay for ten minutes.” It was hard to refuse Lu Yaoyi at this time.
Lu Yaoyi walked over to Jiang Youli and didn’t say anything, facing the breeze. Jiang Youli rested her hands on the balcony railing. She looked at the cold-faced Lu Yaoyi and couldn’t help but say, “I didn’t say you could stand next to me.”
“Oh,” Lu Yaoyi said, her thin lips parting slightly.
Jiang Youli was speechless. She couldn’t be bothered to argue with Lu Yaoyi anymore.
The two of them just stood on the balcony, staring at the moon. The moonlight shone on them, giving them a layer of a pure white glow. Lu Yaoyi’s fresh scent constantly wafted into Jiang Youli’s nose. Jiang Youli subtly glanced at Lu Yaoyi out of the corner of her eye. She couldn’t understand why Lu Yaoyi smelled so good. It wasn’t the scent of her pheromones. Was this the special thing about an S-class Omega?
The two times her body reacted to Lu Yaoyi were because she smelled the scent on Lu Yaoyi, but she still didn’t know what Lu Yaoyi’s pheromones smelled like. Lu Yaoyi was very good at hiding it. She had never smelled it before. But… she felt that she was at a bit of a disadvantage. After all, that useless thing had made her lose all her face in front of Lu Yaoyi.
So she suddenly asked, “Lu Yaoyi, what do your pheromones smell like?”
Lu Yaoyi slowly looked at Jiang Youli and didn’t say anything.
Jiang Youli felt uncomfortable under Lu Yaoyi’s gaze, so she quickly looked away at the distant night scenery. “Don’t look at me like that. I was just asking.”
Lu Yaoyi asked with a straight face, “Do you want to smell my pheromones?”
Jiang Youli didn’t necessarily want to smell them, she just wanted to know what they smelled like. But it seemed like it wouldn’t be a bad idea to smell them. Since Lu Yaoyi no longer had her scent on her, she probably wouldn’t go into a heat so easily again. However, just as she was about to speak, she heard Lu Yaoyi say, “Or… do you want to smell my scent gland?”
