After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 4
Jiangcheng No. 1 High School had four classes every afternoon, but the last one was a forty-minute self-study period, after which school was over.
The afternoon passed quickly.
Tan Yushan left the classroom after selecting the class committee members during the last period.
The class president, Tang Xinxin, was on duty at the front of the class.
As soon as Tan Yushan left, Chen Huaian immediately ran to the back door to sneak a peek at him. He didn’t return to his seat to notify Jiang Youli until Tan Yushan’s figure had completely disappeared around the corner of the hallway. “Boss, boss, Old Tan is gone. Let’s go.”
Hearing this, Jiang Youli immediately packed her bag, ready to leave.
Chen Huaian also sat down and began packing his bag.
One minute later, Jiang Youli and Chen Huaian, with their backpacks on, walked out the back door of the classroom. They often left early during the last self-study period. Tan Yushan had lectured them multiple times about leaving early, but they continued to do as they pleased, sneaking out during the last period. They were so thick-skinned they were like dead pigs not afraid of boiling water.
Tang Xinxin looked at the two empty seats in the back row and shook her head helplessly. She couldn’t stop Jiang Youli and Chen Huaian from leaving early even if she wanted to.
It had been this way for all three years of middle school.
Now, Tan Yushan was too lazy to even bother with Jiang Youli and Chen Huaian leaving early.
Shortly after Jiang Youli and Chen Huaian left the academic building, they ran into two seniors from the third year of high school. They were all friends who regularly skipped class together.
“Brother Shen, Brother Zong,” Jiang Youli said, “where’s Sister Xun?”
Qiao Yixun was the boss of the entire Jiangcheng No. 1 High School.
“Sister Xun is still traveling abroad and flirting with foreign Omegas,” said one of the Omega seniors, Chen Shen. “She’ll probably be back next week.”
“Oh,” Jiang Youli said.
The other Beta senior, Wang Zong, said, “A-You, you and Lu Yaoyi…”
Jiang Youli had a headache just hearing Lu Yaoyi’s name. She had already explained the whole story countless times today. “Lu Yaoyi and I… it was a misunderstanding.”
She sighed helplessly. “Brother Zong, please don’t even bring it up.”
“Alright,” Wang Zong replied understandingly. “I won’t.”
The four of them walked toward the field. There was a tree next to the field’s fence, and they usually climbed it to sneak out when they skipped class.
On the way, they passed by the bike shed.
Jiang Youli immediately spotted her bike with the flat tire, as well as Lu Yaoyi’s pink bike. She stopped in her tracks.
The other three looked at Jiang Youli strangely.
“What’s wrong, boss? Why did you suddenly stop?” Chen Huaian turned his head and looked at the bike shed, following Jiang Youli’s gaze. “Is there something there?”
He then shrank back suspiciously. “There aren’t ghosts, are there?”
“You’re the ghost,” Jiang Youli said.
She stared at Lu Yaoyi’s bike, her eyes narrowing slightly, and an ill-intentioned smile slowly spread across her lips. Then she walked toward Lu Yaoyi’s bike.
“We’ve got work to do, guys.”
Chen Huaian followed her. “What kind of work?”
Jiang Youli’s eyes twinkled, and her smile deepened. “Interesting work, of course.”
All the trouble today started because of a bicycle.
Since Lu Yaoyi had gotten her into so much trouble today, she had to get even.
After an unknown amount of time, the long, melodious school bell rang out, echoing throughout the school.
The last self-study period was over, and school was dismissed.
The once-silent Jiangcheng No. 1 High School suddenly became noisy.
Lu Yaoyi packed her bag and walked toward the bike shed with her deskmate and good friend, Jin Rubing. Suddenly, a male Alpha blocked their path.
The Alpha was holding a letter, which appeared to be a love letter.
Many students nearby looked on curiously.
The incident with Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi had been a hot topic all day, and now a male Alpha was publicly giving a love letter to Lu Yaoyi. Since Lu Yaoyi was famously aloof at Jiangcheng No. 1 High School, they couldn’t help but stare and watch the show.
Jin Rubing, an Omega, faintly smelled the Alpha’s restless pheromones. She looked at him cautiously and asked, “What do you want?”
The Alpha’s entire face turned red.
He shyly extended the letter toward Lu Yaoyi. “I… Lu Yao…”
Before he could finish, Lu Yaoyi walked right past him with a blank expression.
Her coldness instantly froze the Alpha in place.
“Yaoyi,” Jin Rubing quickly followed Lu Yaoyi. “Wait for me.”
Snickers and jeers could be heard from the people around them. The Alpha turned and watched Lu Yaoyi’s back as she walked away, unconsciously clenching his fist and crumpling the envelope into a ball.
A moment later, Lu Yaoyi and Jin Rubing arrived at the bike shed.
Both of them stopped suddenly.
Jin Rubing looked at the bike shed and said in surprise, “Yaoyi… your bike…”
In the bike shed, the pink bike, now just a frame with its two wheels removed, lay on the ground. It was obvious that someone had intentionally taken off the wheels.
Jin Rubing was speechless. “Who… who did this?”
Lu Yaoyi looked at her now-broken pink bike with a detached expression. She knew who the culprit was without even thinking about it, but she wasn’t angry. She just said with a lukewarm tone, “Besides her, who else would be so bored?”
Hearing this, Jin Rubing immediately understood. “Jiang Youli is too much!”
Lu Yaoyi didn’t say anything.
“Yaoyi,” Jin Rubing couldn’t stand it anymore. “Aren’t you and Jiang Youli neighbors who grew up together? Why does she always single you out and bully you?”
Lu Yaoyi stared at her bike absentmindedly, then spoke faintly with her thin lips.
“She hates me.”
“Hates you…” Jin Rubing immediately got angry. “She’s the one who’s hateful!”
Jiang Youli went straight home after skipping class.
If her Little Dad, Li Henian, who was a lawyer, wasn’t still at work, and her Dad, Jiang Xiyuan, who was the CEO, wasn’t on a business trip, she wouldn’t have been so audacious as to go home early.
Every house in Jiang Youli’s neighborhood was a three-hundred-square-meter villa, and each one had a small front yard for flowers and plants. However, this area wasn’t a gated community. She was currently playing on her skateboard on the main road outside her house.
After a while, a girl who appeared from the intersection ahead caught Jiang Youli’s attention. She stopped her skateboard and watched Lu Yaoyi walking toward her, a triumphant smile blooming on her lips. She then pushed off her skateboard and quickly glided toward Lu Yaoyi.
It was the perfect time to get even with Lu Yaoyi while their parents weren’t home.
“Hey there, Classmate Lu. Why are you coming home so late today?”
Lu Yaoyi continued to walk, ignoring Jiang Youli.
“Why are you walking home, Classmate Lu?” Jiang Youli persistently followed Lu Yaoyi on her skateboard. “Where’s your precious pink bike?”
Lu Yaoyi still didn’t pay any attention to Jiang Youli.
Jiang Youli asked, even though she already knew the answer. “Your bike isn’t broken, is it?”
Lu Yaoyi kept walking toward her house, completely ignoring Jiang Youli, not even sparing her a glance. Jiang Youli was like a tail, following her on her skateboard and constantly saying sarcastic things to annoy her.
But she didn’t take the bait.
Just as Lu Yaoyi reached her front gate and was about to go inside, Jiang Youli suddenly pushed her skateboard with her foot. The skateboard shot past Lu Yaoyi and hit the wall. Jiang Youli took a few steps forward, extending her left hand forcefully to pin it against the wall, blocking Lu Yaoyi’s path. “Lu Yaoyi, don’t think that just because you’re ignoring me, we can pretend nothing happened today.”
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli calmly. “What do you want?”
Before Jiang Youli could speak, she caught a whiff of a fresh, pleasant scent coming from the girl in front of her. For a moment, she thought she smelled Omega pheromones, but then she remembered that as a Beta, she couldn’t smell them. So it must just be Lu Yaoyi’s natural scent.
If her natural scent was this fragrant, what would Lu Yaoyi’s pheromones smell like?
A moment later, Jiang Youli regained her focus and said, “I want to settle the score with you, of course.”
Lu Yaoyi’s expression remained unchanged. “What score is there to settle between us?”
“You slandered me in front of the whole class today, saying I sexually harassed you,” Jiang Youli said, looking down at the shorter Lu Yaoyi. “Of course we have a score to settle.”
Lu Yaoyi said, “You were the one who said ‘sexual harassment’ yourself.”
She paused, then continued, “Why are you accusing me of slandering you?”
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Jiang Youli said, furious. “You clearly…”
A memory from earlier today suddenly flashed in her mind. It was true, she was the one who said “sexual harassment.” So she had put herself in the hot seat? But why didn’t Lu Yaoyi explain things? Instead, she tacitly agreed to the accusation?
She got even angrier thinking about it. “Then why didn’t you explain yourself at the time?”
Lu Yaoyi countered, “Why should I explain?”
Jiang Youli was confused. “???”
Why should she explain? Lu Yaoyi was actually asking her why she should explain?
Lu Yaoyi’s thin lips parted, and she spoke unhurriedly.
“Jiang Youli, have you learned your lesson about letting words cause trouble for you?”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Wow, how could this despicable Omega be so self-righteous?
Was her not explaining a lesson for her to learn to watch her words?
She was so mad she was about to explode. “Even if I said ‘sexual harassment’ first, why didn’t you explain? Do you have any idea that the whole school is saying I ‘forced’…”
Her words stopped abruptly.
She couldn’t bring herself to say the words in front of Lu Yaoyi.
Lu Yaoyi looked directly into Jiang Youli’s clear, beautiful eyes. There was a glimmer of something unfathomable in her gaze as she asked, “You forced what?”
Jiang Youli couldn’t tell if Lu Yaoyi genuinely didn’t know what the school was saying or if she was just pretending. Either way, they had come this far, so there was no point in holding back. “They’re saying I forced myself on you over the summer.”
Lu Yaoyi didn’t say anything.
She simply pushed away Jiang Youli’s arm and walked toward her own yard.
It was as if she didn’t want to talk about this topic with Jiang Youli.
“Lu Yaoyi, you haven’t explained anything for yourself. Don’t you care at all what people are saying about you?” Jiang Youli asked, looking at Lu Yaoyi’s retreating back. She suddenly remembered Lu Yaoyi’s taunt about her being undifferentiated earlier today and sneered mockingly, “Or are you saying you actually wanted to be… ‘forced’ by me, an undifferentiated Beta?”
Hearing this, Lu Yaoyi suddenly stopped.
Her cheeks felt a little hot, but the warmth quickly faded.
Yes, I did. But so what?
You don’t want to.
She answered Jiang Youli in her heart, then turned around, her face not showing a single flush. She looked at Jiang Youli with a cold, emotionless tone.
“Jiang Youli, do you want to?”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
The girl’s breathtaking beauty directly crashed into her eyes. She had to admit that Lu Yaoyi’s face would have been a cause of disaster in ancient times. However, she was still infuriated. “What are you talking about? How could I possibly have feelings for you? Don’t you think that just because you’re an S-class Omega, everyone in the world will like you? I would rather like a Beta with no pheromones and no estrus than force myself on you.”
Lu Yaoyi’s eyes darkened. “Then what makes you think I want to be forced by you?”
Jiang Youli was speechless.
Lu Yaoyi didn’t wait for Jiang Youli to respond and turned to walk away.
Leaving behind an extremely cold back.
“It’s not that I think you want to be forced by me!” Jiang Youli yelled angrily at Lu Yaoyi’s retreating back. “It’s all your fault for not explaining anything and just silently agreeing! That’s why everyone is talking nonsense and spreading rumors! It’s all your fault!”
Lu Yaoyi opened her gate, walked in, and “bang!” she shut the door.
Jiang Youli was so angry she gave her skateboard a hard kick.
“I’m not interested in you at all!”
