After Ditching Four Powerful Alphas, I Differentiated into an Omega - Chapter 3
Meng E glanced at Qiao Yu’s pale face, which was trying hard to stay calm, then at Jiang Mei’s cold, unapproachable demeanor, and quietly lowered her presence. She had been classmates with Jiang Mei since middle school, and she knew Jiang Mei’s temperament better than anyone. Before Qiao Yu transferred, if she claimed to be the second person who understood Jiang Mei, no one would dare to claim they were the first.
She had always thought Qiao Yu was Jiang Mei’s salvation, since everyone had noticed a significant change in Jiang Mei after Qiao Yu stubbornly forced her way into her world.
She couldn’t say exactly what had changed, but it was definitely linked to Qiao Yu’s arrival.
Qiao Yu stood motionless. Meng E couldn’t resist lightly nudging her with her elbow and whispered, “Yu Yu, I’ll step out for a bit.”
She gave Qiao Yu a meaningful look, and the message was clear.
Qiao Yu instinctively reached out her hand to grab Meng E, but the supposedly delicate and helpless omega found a burst of energy from who knows where and disappeared out the door in just a few steps.
The atmosphere around them instantly turned cold. Qiao Yu’s toes clenched, and she wished she could just leave too.
But running away wasn’t a solution. She had to win Jiang Mei over. Qiao Yu bravely turned to the back row, her tea-colored eyes fixed on Jiang Mei, who was writing her homework. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it yesterday. I apologize to you.”
Jiang Mei remained unmoved. Qiao Yu’s fingers, which were gripping her cuff, began to tighten. “Can you please forgive me just this once?”
Jiang Mei’s pen tip paused, and she finally looked up. Her gaze swept over Qiao Yu’s face, which was filled with extreme regret, and finally settled on her slightly reddened eyes. “You did nothing wrong.”
The one who was wrong was herself, for so abruptly revealing her feelings and breaking the final barrier, leaving them without even a friendship. Qiao Yu had already rejected her very politely and graciously.
Jiang Mei’s eyelashes fluttered down, covering her dark, clear eyes. “I need to study my vocabulary now.”
She clearly didn’t want to talk about the topic anymore. Qiao Yu didn’t have the audacity to pester her.
Meng E came back and found that not only had the two not reconciled, but the atmosphere had become even heavier. She almost wanted to ask the teacher for a new seat that very night. Sitting down cautiously, Meng E stole a glance at Jiang Mei and Qiao Yu and hesitated before asking, “Yu Yu, when are you expected to differentiate?”
Qiao Yu rubbed her face. “I don’t know for sure, but it should be soon.”
Most of the students in the class had already differentiated. Jiang Mei had differentiated into an Alpha two years ago, and even Meng E had become an Omega just last week, but Qiao Yu still hadn’t shown any signs. She took her test report from her desk and frowned slightly. “If this is accurate, my differentiation should happen in about two or three months.”
Meng E was about to lean in for a closer look when she felt a sharp gaze like a needle on the back of her head. She instinctively pulled away from Qiao Yu and lowered her voice. “Yu Yu, you won’t be weaker than Jiang Mei after you differentiate, right?”
Qiao Yu’s spirits lifted. Of course not. The original Qiao Yu would differentiate into the most powerful Alpha in the capital, surpassing all of Jiang Mei’s other suitors.
None of Jiang Mei’s future partners were weak, especially her own “cannon fodder” ex-wife.
After a half-second pause, Qiao Yu suddenly thought, “Since I’m about to differentiate into a powerful Alpha, why do I even need to win the female lead over? Even if she wants to get revenge on me later, she won’t be able to beat me.”
The system couldn’t help but say, “I think your idea is a bit dangerous, Host.”
Qiao Yu replied, “I don’t care what you think, I only care what I think.”
Jiang Mei suddenly noticed that the woman in front of her seemed to be in a better mood. Not only was she humming a tune, but she was also getting close to Meng E—a clear violation of the “A and O shouldn’t touch”—and fawning over Song Wanying’s photo. But fortunately, the two of them soon stopped talking and picked up their books to study.
Jiang Mei subtly sighed in relief.
She wanted to completely cut ties with Qiao Yu, but… how easy was it to forget someone?
She could only rely on her Alpha’s superior self-control to try not to think about her, but it seemed useless. The more she told herself not to think, the more her mind was filled with the other’s gentle and clean features, soft and moist red lips. Every single part of her body became even more mesmerizing under her deliberate suppression.
She wanted to be closer to her even more.
But she knew she wasn’t worthy of her. She was always self-aware.
But this was something Qiao Yu only dared to think about in her mind. It was best not to offend the female lead if at all possible, otherwise, who knows if some heavenly justice would strike and cause her to die young? But failing to win Jiang Mei over made Qiao Yu feel frustrated. Just then, she coughed uncomfortably. Meng E and Jiang Mei simultaneously looked up. “Yu Yu, are you okay?”
The moment Jiang Mei’s gaze shifted, Qiao Yu noticed. While saying she was fine, Qiao Yu weakly coughed twice more. “I just caught a cold from the rain yesterday. It’s no big deal.”
Meng E relaxed. “Then I’ll go with you to the infirmary to get some medicine after class.”
Qiao Yu nodded, and noticing that Jiang Mei’s gaze hadn’t yet been withdrawn, she covered her mouth and coughed again, her voice sounding frail. “Thank you.”
Jiang Mei looked away and stared at her textbook, a subtle frown on her face. She has a cold?
Is it because she was out in the wind and rain looking for me last night?
In an instant, a burst of uncontrollable joy welled up in Jiang Mei’s heart. So, she still cares about me? Because she cares about me, she didn’t mind her weak body and hurried to look for me in the heavy rain?
But a moment later, all of Jiang Mei’s joy vanished like a bubble. There was a world of difference between them. Qiao Yu was of noble birth. She would inherit all of the Qiao family’s assets and marry the most gentle and beautiful omega in the capital. In the eyes of these rich people, she was less than a watchdog.
How could I possibly hope for her to like me?
Qiao Yu gradually saw that Jiang Mei was trying to distance herself, so she decided to use her ultimate weapon: playing the weakling.
No one could be cruel enough to abandon a sick girlfriend who was about to differentiate into an Alpha, unless they had no heart.
The moment the bell rang for lunch, before the teacher even left the classroom, Qiao Yu hurriedly stood up from her chair. Acting dramatically, she pretended to trip over the table leg and aimed for Jiang Mei’s location, falling down in a panic.
That soft, delicate body was so close. Jiang Mei instinctively reached out and pulled her in. The waist in her hand was so slender and fragile, it felt like it could snap. The expensive fabric was exquisite to the touch, and at the same time, a faint scent unexpectedly wafted over her, almost making her freeze completely.
Having landed in Jiang Mei’s lap as planned, Qiao Yu was secretly delighted, but her face still showed a look of discomfort as she apologized. “Sorry, I felt a little dizzy just now.”
The system stared at the melodramatic host without moving. “…” What is there to be sorry for? You weren’t sorry when you just sat on her lap, were you?
Meng E was the first to snap out of it and rushed over to Qiao Yu in a panic. “Yu Yu, are you okay?! Are you about to differentiate?”
Some people get especially weak during the period leading up to their differentiation. Remembering that Qiao Yu was also sick yesterday, she quickly pulled Qiao Yu off of Jiang Mei’s lap. “I’ll go with you to the infirmary right now.”
The person in her arms had suddenly entered and then suddenly left. Jiang Mei’s heart also seemed to drift away with Qiao Yu’s departure, leaving behind a feeling of hollow confusion.
She moved her fingers. Her fingertips still retained the other’s softness and warmth. Jiang Mei looked up and watched Qiao Yu’s stumbling steps. Before her brain could even react, she had already stood up and naturally pulled her into her arms from Meng E’s grasp. “I’ll take her.”
Meng E was stunned, then wisely let go.
Qiao Yu quickly fell from Meng E’s hands into Jiang Mei’s embrace. Jiang Mei was tall and strong, and Qiao Yu hanging off her didn’t seem to make her frown at all. Qiao Yu couldn’t help but sigh with a yearning tone, “If I marry an Alpha, my life will surely be very happy.”
The system’s mind was a complete question mark. You’re not right.
Jiang Mei didn’t say a word the entire way. Qiao Yu had no choice but to continue her groaning and pretending to be sick. A few minutes later, she finally got Jiang Mei’s attention. “Are you feeling very bad?”
Qiao Yu’s spirits immediately lifted, and she weakly nodded. “Mm-hmm.”
But immediately, a warm and radiant smile appeared on her face. “But with you by my side, it doesn’t feel as bad.”
Jiang Mei didn’t reply again.
After a lot of commotion at the infirmary, the doctor gave Qiao Yu a few meaningful stares, but other than telling her to rest, he didn’t give her any medicine. In the end, Qiao Yu was so persistent, insisting she felt terrible all over, that the doctor gave her a box of cold medicine with a look of pity reserved for the mentally challenged.
The doctor looked at her frail, weak appearance as she leaned against Jiang Mei and couldn’t help but say, “Student, you are going to differentiate into a top-tier Alpha.”
Qiao Yu blinked. “I know.”
“So please don’t be so ‘zero-like,’ okay?”
Jiang Mei turned her face away, her tightly pressed lips trying to suppress a smile. Qiao Yu’s face turned red. She quickly pulled Jiang Mei out of the infirmary, feeling ashamed for being called “sissy” in front of her. Qiao Yu couldn’t lift her head and quickly slipped back to the “Heavenly and Human Realm.”
“Heavenly and Human Realm” was a one-year-old birthday gift from the original owner’s mother. After years of operation, it was now the most famous bar and club in the capital. Qiao Yu had a suite there and would stay for two or three days whenever she wanted. Before, she stayed to be closer to Jiang Mei so she could appear at a moment’s notice to help her out of trouble, but now…
Qiao Yu was dazzled. “That omega is so gentle!”
The system just glanced over, and Qiao Yu had already turned in another direction, staring intently at a group of beautiful omegas nearby. “Wow!”
The system grew wary. Just as expected, Qiao Yu then said, “Aren’t those my wives?”
Qiao Yu was about to turn eighteen, which was old enough for a romantic plot in a novel. So it wasn’t too much to ask for her to find a partner now, was it?
But Qiao Yu couldn’t help but sigh. “Still, Sister Song is the best. Calling her ‘Jie Jie’ during the day, and being called ‘Jie Jie’ at night.”
The system, with no emotion in its voice, said, “Host, I have to remind you. Your Sister Song belongs to Jiang Mei.”
Qiao Yu suddenly felt like arguing with the clueless system. “So what?”
“Her woman is ‘fine,’ but in a moment, she’ll be ‘mine’.”
