After Divorcing the Beautiful Richest Woman, She Fell in Love (GL) - Chapter 6
Lin Feiruo was quite interested in that floor lamp and couldn’t help but want to ask where it was bought.
On second thought, how could anything in the home of the richest woman be easily purchased? Even if it could be found, the price would likely scare her to death. Although she was occupying the original owner’s identity and likely had a hefty sum in her bank account, the spending habits developed over twenty-four years were hard to change in an instant.
Lin Feiruo felt a pang of regret: such a unique lamp, yet they had met so late. Since she had no chance of owning it, she decided to take a few extra looks.
Jian Xiyan waited and waited, finally unable to stand the woman staring at a lamp with such “deep affection”!
“It’s just a lamp.”
Jian Xiyan couldn’t bring herself to yell across the room: “Just how long are you going to keep looking at it?!” Lin Feiruo was not the kind of person who could make Jian Xiyan reveal her true emotions.
Hearing the faint hint of helplessness in Jian Xiyan’s voice, Lin Feiruo gave her a shy, slightly youthful smile.
Jian Xiyan froze for a moment. She couldn’t quite describe the fleeting feeling, but it seemed she wasn’t as frustrated anymore.
“This lamp is truly beautiful,” Lin Feiruo praised sincerely.
Jian Xiyan replied calmly, “Xiaomin made it.” She then shifted her gaze to the corner near the lamp. “Take your luggage to the study.”
Jian Xiyan stayed where she was, arms crossed, occasionally looking down as if in deep thought. When Lin Feiruo emerged from the study, she sensed that Jian Xiyan seemed to have something to say.
“Would you like to sit down?” Lin Feiruo pointed to the sofa closest to her, tilting her head as she asked.
It wasn’t that they couldn’t talk while standing, but it was tiring and felt overly serious. Having been tense in front of Yu Shuyi all day, Lin Feiruo wanted to relax.
Jian Xiyan didn’t move. “You sit.”
Lin Feiruo looked at the sofa and then at her, instinctively choosing… to stay closer to the beauty. Even if she wasn’t familiar with Jian Xiyan, admiring a top-tier beauty at close range was a treat.
Seeing her approach slowly, the corner of Jian Xiyan’s mouth twitched upward slightly. “Second Uncle returns tomorrow. You can’t stay silent like you were today.”
This was the final performance; she had nothing left to test Lin Feiruo on. “I’m not sure if Second Uncle has noticed anything, but we must act exactly as we did in the past.”
Lin Feiruo sensed her dissatisfaction with the day’s performance and explained, “The topics you and Second Aunt were discussing… it wasn’t convenient for me to chime in.”
Yu Shuyi was either venting about her daughter’s fan-girling or talking about Jiang Wanru’s latest news, with the occasional question about when they planned to have children. Not a single topic was suitable for her to join.
Jian Xiyan understood her hesitation. Talking about Jiang Wanru actually involved Yan Shan. Knowing that Jian Xiaomin’s return tomorrow would lead to even more exaggerated comments than Yu Shuyi’s, Jian Xiyan felt the need to give her a heads-up—essentially hoping she wouldn’t take it to heart.
“You know Xiaomin’s temper. When she gets stubborn, she only sees the people and things she cares about; she won’t care about anything else.”
Lin Feiruo thought: I don’t know Jian Xiaomin’s personality! My dear CEO, could you be any more direct?
Seeing Lin Feiruo’s hesitant and conflicted expression, Jian Xiyan was once again defeated by the woman’s one-track mind.
“When Xiaomin gets excited, she might say some…” Jian Xiyan paused.
Lin Feiruo was listening intently and looked up to find Jian Xiyan watching her. After their eyes met, Jian Xiyan didn’t look away, slowly finishing her sentence: “She might say some inappropriate things about Yan Shan. Don’t take it personally.”
Yan Shan? The name sounded familiar. Lin Feiruo searched her mind and felt this person must have a close relationship with the original owner.
Seeing her knit her brows, Jian Xiyan felt speechless yet helpless; this woman was truly a blockhead. “It doesn’t matter what Xiaomin says. That role is set in stone; it won’t be changed. You can rest assured.”
Lin Feiruo caught the tone of a guarantee. For someone to be on the minds of both Jian sisters, they must be significant. Right, Yan Shan. I’ll remember that name.
Lin Feiruo intended to ask more about Jian Shenyao, since the main goal of this trip was to perform for him. “About Second Uncle…”
Before she could reach the main point, the phone on the desk rang. Jian Xiyan walked over to answer it, signaling Lin Feiruo to wait.
“Liqing, what is it?”
“Xiyan, President Bu has changed his mind.”
Jian Xiyan’s voice turned heavy. “What exactly happened?”
Xu Liqing was Jian Xiyan’s chief secretary, as well as her former classmate and friend. They had known each other for years and shared a perfect rapport in business and personal matters—the only thing Jian Xiyan hadn’t told her was the truth about the contract marriage. Even now, Xu Liqing couldn’t understand why Jian Xiyan would fall for someone like Lin Feiruo; she was no help with work and they had few common hobbies. She could only conclude that love makes one blind.
“I don’t know the exact situation, but half an hour ago, President Bu’s secretary called saying they need to discuss the contract details further. They want to postpone the signing.”
Jian Xiyan thought for a moment and said decisively, “The more this drags on, the more variables arise. Adjust my schedule; I’ll go see President Bu again the day after tomorrow.”
“I heard he’s vacationing on Tara Island…”
“Then I’ll go to Tara Island. Regardless, I need to speak with him in person as soon as possible.”
“Understood. I’ll arrange it immediately.”
“Send me the contract details they want to discuss.”
After hanging up, Jian Xiyan opened her laptop and switched seamlessly into work mode.
Lin Feiruo felt that since she couldn’t help, the best thing she could do was stay out of the way. Back in the lab, she had hated it when people would insincerely ask if she needed help while she was swamped. Damn it, if you aren’t actually going to help, just offering is a waste of oxygen!
Lin Feiruo was determined not to be that kind of annoying person. She silently placed a cup of hot tea at the corner of Jian Xiyan’s desk, then returned to the study and softly closed the sliding door.
Jian Xiyan noticed the movement, but she was too occupied to focus on it—until she saw the tea. She paused. In the past, Lin Feiruo would have left the room as well, but she would never have poured tea first unless there were witnesses and she needed to perform.
The study had its own ensuite. After showering, Lin Feiruo pressed her ear to the door; Jian Xiyan was still busy. She heard the intermittent tapping of the keyboard and phone calls to various people. The speech was rapid, yet the emotions remained stable—nothing like those explosive CEOs on TV who yelled at everyone.
Lin Feiruo retreated and leaned against the headboard to play with her phone. Even though she wasn’t sharing a bed with Jian Xiyan, she felt it would be impolite to just go to sleep while the other woman was working herself to death.
She decided to look up information on Jiang Wanru. If her hardcore fan Jian Xiaomin returned tomorrow and Lin Feiruo still couldn’t join the conversation, things might get awkward.
Jiang Wanru was indeed a superstar; one search and the screen was flooded with her news. Lin Feiruo scrolled through the headlines; the most mentioned was her transition film, Ambience. Yu Shuyi had mentioned the title several times today, so Lin Feiruo was now immune to it.
Entertainment news followed the same old patterns: press releases praising her, rivals buying smear campaigns, or fans bickering over nothing. It gave her a headache, and she began to feel drowsy. She had intended to check on “Yan Shan” as well, but she drifted off to sleep before she could.
Jian Xiyan worked until late into the night. When she finally slowed down, she noticed the half-cup of tea next to her was ice-cold. Recalling the way Lin Feiruo had placed the cup and tiptoed away, Jian Xiyan looked at the closed sliding door. Whether it was the loneliness of the late night or Lin Feiruo’s “farewell” gestures, Jian Xiyan felt a strange heaviness in her chest.
The next morning, Lin Feiruo woke up on time, only to find Jian Xiyan was already up and looking at documents.
“Did you only sleep for an hour?” Lin Feiruo was both shocked and impressed.
Jian Xiyan looked at her calmly before closing her laptop. “Three hours.”
Her pace was still like the wind, showing no signs of fatigue; she looked more energetic after three hours than most people after nine. Lin Feiruo was in awe: A ruthless person destined to make big money. The legendary “god-tier” schedules of billionaires were a real thing.
Jian Shenyao and Jian Xiaomin arrived home at the same time. The smile on Yu Shuyi’s face didn’t fade for a second. A flash of envy crossed Jian Xiyan’s eyes, quickly covered by a mask of calm. The reunion of a family of three was something she no longer allowed herself to expect.
Jian Shenyao was tall, refined, and radiated aristocratic grace; it was clear the Jian family had high standards for looks. He and Yu Shuyi were a perfect match; they seemed to have a great relationship, their eyes barely leaving each other the moment they met.
Lin Feiruo followed Jian Xiyan to greet him.
“Second Uncle, thank you for your hard work.”
“Xiyan, why are you becoming so polite? I told you I would see this project through before handing it over to you.”
Jian Shenyao studied his niece affectionately for a moment before his gaze slowly drifted to Lin Feiruo. Lin Feiruo met his eyes, but as she prepared to smile and greet him, her heart skipped a beat.
After remembering the plot about Yu Shuyi’s unhappy marriage yesterday, she had suspected Jian Shenyao might be a philanderer or ungrateful. She had already lowered her opinion of him, but once the plot fragments about him clicked into place, she realized this man was rotten to the core!
And that rot was directed at Jian Xiyan.
The plot points connected one by one: Jian Shenyao used contract traps to cause repeated setbacks for projects Jian Xiyan was responsible for. He also conspired with other shareholders to pressure her from behind, eventually overturning the family trust rules to disqualify Jian Xiyan as the heir…
There were more hazy details, but they wouldn’t clear up. Lin Feiruo felt anxious, swallowing hard several times. The person beside her nudged her gently.
“Say hello to Second Uncle. What are you dazed for?” A light reminder that, to others, sounded more like a playful scolding.
Lin Feiruo hurriedly blurted out, “Hello, Second Uncle.” Her gaze then landed on Jian Xiyan, and a sudden surge of sympathy rose within her.
She recalled how Jian Xiyan had just been chatting warmly with Jian Shenyao and thanking him. From yesterday’s conversation with Yu Shuyi, it was clear she had a great relationship with her uncle. Being the richest woman was truly hard—working until midnight only to be stabbed in the back by a relative.
The pity in Lin Feiruo’s heart deepened, and her expression changed accordingly. Jian Xiyan was puzzled; in her memory, Lin Feiruo had rarely—if ever—looked at her with that kind of gaze. She returned an questioning look, though she couldn’t make it too obvious.
Jian Xiaomin had just broken free from her mother’s hug and prepared to greet Jian Xiyan and the others. As she walked to her father’s side, she saw this “deeply affectionate eye contact” and immediately clung to Jian Shenyao’s arm. “Dad, Sis has become so girly since she got married. Lin Feiruo is actually quite impressive.”
Jian Xiaomin had loved following Jian Xiyan since she was a child. Although their personalities were polar opposites, it didn’t hinder their sisterly bond. She was a total “sister-con” and wasn’t satisfied with Lin Feiruo, but because her sister liked her, she reluctantly searched for Lin Feiruo’s redeeming qualities in every nook and cranny.
Lin Feiruo didn’t know how Jian Xiaomin managed to give such forced praise without blushing. The people of the Jian family are truly something else.
Fortunately, Jian Xiaomin’s plot wasn’t so terrifying; she was just a crazy fan with a bit of a temper. The book didn’t describe her much.
Lin Feiruo forced a smile. “Long time no see, Xiaomin.”
“It hasn’t been that long, only four months.”
Lin Feiruo didn’t reply, only smiled. Jian Xiaomin couldn’t help but chuckle after a few seconds, then switched to grabbing Jian Xiyan’s arm. “Sis, why do I feel like she’s getting cuter and cuter?”
