After Flirting with the Wrong Stand-in, I Overturned (GL) - Chapter 11
Recruiting. Lin Shuyan thought of the contact information tucked away at the bottom of her storage chest. Miss Ren had given her a chance to choose again—a dream opportunity.
But did she really have the ability to get in? And regarding that contract, how could she ever repay Miss Ren’s investment?
“If you trust me,” Ren Xuan said with a smile, sensing her concerns, “how about I recommend a place for you to study?”
Study?
Lin Shuyan’s ears perked up.
“My family has an old friend who retired from the entertainment industry over ten years ago and became a teacher. She happens to be resting at home lately. If you go to her place to learn, she would be quite happy to teach you.”
Lin Shuyan was naturally a thousand, ten thousand times willing. Her eyelashes fluttered as she finally accepted, “Miss Ren, I want to try.”
“I’ll come pick you up the day after tomorrow.” Knowing Lin Shuyan would keep her word, Ren Xuan felt completely at ease. It hadn’t been a waste of time to persuade her for so long and wait patiently for Zhao Meili to bring up the contract.
“Miss Ren, I can go there myself.” As soon as the words left her mouth, Lin Shuyan bit her lip. Would I seem too impatient in Miss Ren’s eyes? Not poised or steady at all?
“Since it’s the first time, I should accompany you,” Ren Xuan added softly. “I happen to be free that day.”
“Get some rest early.” Her goal achieved, Ren Xuan prepared to head back and deal with other messy matters. “I’m leaving.”
“Miss Ren, I’ll walk you out.” Lin Shuyan didn’t try to keep her; the small apartment didn’t allow for it, and it was getting late—the stars had already been hanging in the sky for two hours. Lin Shuyan walked her all the way downstairs. There wasn’t much open space in the residential complex, so Ren Xuan had specifically told the driver to wait for her outside the gate.
Seeing that Lin Shuyan intended to walk her out of the complex, Ren Xuan chuckled. “Lin Shuyan, I remember I was the one walking you home. If you walk any further, we’ll end up in a loop of you seeing me off, then me seeing you off again.”
Lin Shuyan’s ears turned red instantly. She waved to Ren Xuan and watched her figure disappear before standing in silence for a moment and turning back home.
On the third day, Ren Xuan parked the car outside the complex as agreed and sent a message to Lin Shuyan. Before long, a girl appeared before Ren Xuan, looking quite different from a few days ago.
“You look…” Ren Xuan couldn’t take her eyes off her. The girl wore a deep blue dress paired with simple sandals. Her face had clearly been meticulously prepared; her naturally beautiful eyes were enhanced by a touch of light makeup, making them even more spirited. Even her hair seemed to have been styled, the ends curling slightly.
“Miss… Miss Ren,” Lin Shuyan shifted her feet uncomfortably, her head slightly lowered, her gaze fixed on the toes of her shoes. “Do I look strange like this?”
“Not at all,” Ren Xuan snapped back to reality. “You were already beautiful, but like this, you’re even more stunning.”
As long as it’s not strange. Lin Shuyan let out a long breath. Yesterday, she had used her modest savings to run through several malls and dug out all her old clothes, finally piecing together a more formal outfit.
Lin Shuyan didn’t know where Ren Xuan was taking her. From the first moment Ren Xuan saved her, she had felt an inexplicable trust in her.
The car drove slowly, passing quiet streets and bustling avenues before entering a more serene and beautiful area. After about an hour, the car stopped in front of a villa. Lin Shuyan didn’t know much about villas or estates, but at a glance, she recognized this as the famous Jinyuan. These houses couldn’t be bought with money alone.
The teacher lives here? Lin Shuyan slowed her pace, getting out of the car and following Ren Xuan. She followed step for step, keeping close. From a distance, she looked like a little tail that Ren Xuan couldn’t shake off.
“Don’t be nervous. Teacher Lin is a gentle beauty; she’s not scary at all,” Ren Xuan comforted her, seeing her “facing a great enemy” expression.
Her surname is also Lin? Before Lin Shuyan could ponder who this teacher was, a helper had already heard the doorbell and opened the door.
“Miss Ren and Miss Lin have arrived!” the helper said with a beaming smile. “The Madam was just talking about you; what a coincidence.”
Madam. Lin Shuyan caught another keyword.
“Madam is in the courtyard trimming flower branches,” the helper led the way. “I’ll take you two over.”
They rounded a corner and walked a short path paved with cobblestones. Hearing footsteps, an elegant and gentle woman slowly turned around.
The moment the woman turned, Lin Shuyan froze. Her pupils constricted in shock, and she could hardly believe her eyes. Her thin lips trembled violently, and she nearly screamed out the name: “Lin…”
Lin An. The first person in the entertainment industry to achieve a “Grand Slam” for best actress in television, alongside half of the major film awards. In her fifteen years in the industry, she had performed in countless masterpiece works. Back when Xingyu Company gave training lessons to artists, a small portion of the works analyzed featured Lin An.
She was actually meeting Lin An in her own home.
“Auntie Lin!” Ren Xuan had already stepped forward warmly to hug Lin An. After letting go, she was about to introduce Lin Shuyan when she suddenly tapped her forehead and sighed to Lin An with a smile, “Auntie Lin, your popularity really hasn’t faded one bit over the years!”
“Why don’t I see you visiting like this?” Lin An teased lightly. “Xiao Xuan, tell me, how long has it been since you last came to see me?”
“It was my oversight.” Ren Xuan raised both hands in mock surrender. Lin An wasn’t truly blaming her; she was best friends with Ren Xuan’s mother. Ever since Ren’s mother passed away, the girl rarely came by. Lin An figured she was afraid of the memories; every blade of grass and tree in this garden bore the traces of the mother and daughter.
“This beauty must be Lin Shuyan?” Lin An turned and friendly extended both hands toward Lin Shuyan.
“Hello, Best Actress Lin,” Lin Shuyan hurriedly shook her hand.
“I’ve been retired for over ten years; I can hardly claim that title anymore,” Lin An shook her head and said warmly, “You are a good friend of Ren Xuan. Why not follow her lead and call me Auntie Lin? What do you think?”
Lin Shuyan looked at Ren Xuan. Seeing her nod, she took in Lin An’s gentle gaze and softly said, “Hello, Auntie Lin.”
