After Flirting with the Wrong Stand-in, I Overturned (GL) - Chapter 2
The wardrobe doors were flung open and slammed shut; the bathroom door was being pounded on.
As the noise drew closer, the girl’s body trembled even more violently. Her steps shuffled closer and closer toward Ren Xuan’s balcony.
Both women held their breath. Ren Xuan stood with her arms outstretched, her gaze fixed intently on the girl suspended high above; her heart felt like it was leaping out of her throat.
The heavy-set man finally realized the room was empty. Catching sight of the shredded curtains, his face turned livid, and he strode toward the balcony.
The moment he pushed at the door, he found it locked from the outside. Furiously hammering at the glass door with both hands, he noticed the curtain scraps tied to the railing.
“You little b*tch, jumping from the fourth floor? I don’t believe it! Trying to act pure after being a whore—even if you end up a cripple, I’ll still have you.” The man grabbed his phone to call Zhao Meili, not forgetting to look for a tool to smash the glass.
On the balcony, the girl was only half a foot away. Her body swayed slightly—just once—before Ren Xuan finally caught her hand in a firm grip.
Neither spoke. Ren Xuan gestured for the girl to keep moving and then jump over the railing. The girl understood; step by careful step, she edged forward until Ren Xuan pulled her into a full embrace.
The girl wasn’t heavy, but as a full-grown adult, her weight made Ren Xuan stumble back two steps. Not overestimating her own strength, Ren Xuan immediately set the girl down on the floor.
On the other side, the man smashed the glass and stepped onto the balcony. Ren Xuan was quick; she pushed the girl into the room and snipped the rope before he could see. When the man reached his railing, he assumed the girl had slid down to the ground. Without a second glance downward, he immediately called the hotel to intercept her.
“Are you okay?” Ren Xuan ignored the raging man on the opposite balcony and poured a glass of water, offering it to the girl.
At first, the girl didn’t notice the water. The moment Ren Xuan approached, she shrank into the corner. It wasn’t until she forced herself to look up and realized Ren Xuan was helping her that she cautiously took the glass.
She avoided touching Ren Xuan’s hand. Even though they had just been clutching each other, here in this clean, tidy room, she seemed afraid of staining the other woman.
In the quiet room, even without looking outside, the man’s nauseating voice could still be heard. Ren Xuan turned on the television, letting a crisp female announcer’s voice fill the space.
After a while, the girl calmed down slightly, gripping the cup tightly. “Thank you, Miss Ren.”
“You recognize me?” Ren Xuan was stunned. She was almost certain this girl was the female lead—same time, same place… but the fragmented plot hadn’t mentioned that the female lead knew Ren Xuan beforehand.
“Miss Ren, you appeared in a finance magazine last year,” the girl explained immediately, seemingly worried that Ren Xuan would suspect her of having ulterior motives.
That made sense.
The original “Ren Xuan” had gained immense wealth at a young age, so media attention was naturally high. She usually avoided the spotlight, but when she heard that particular magazine would be distributed abroad, she changed her mind. Her “White Moonlight” was overseas; even if there were only a one-in-ten-thousand chance, she wanted her news to reach her.
“I remember now,” Ren Xuan nodded. Suddenly, she noticed the girl’s pale face turning a deep, flushed red. The hand holding the cup was shaking, and she looked as if she wanted to bury herself in the sofa. Between her lips, a stray, abnormal moan escaped.
Ren Xuan’s body stiffened. As an adult, she understood exactly what the problem was.
Despicable! Thinking of the pot-bellied, stout man in the hallway, Ren Xuan cursed him again.
Unfortunately, cursing couldn’t solve the problem at hand. Suppressing her anger, Ren Xuan walked into the bathroom and turned on the cold water.
When she returned, the cup had rolled into a corner of the sofa. The girl was curled up, her messy hair obscuring her flushed face, but the sounds coming from her were enough to make anyone blush.
The girl’s remaining sliver of sanity told her she was in Miss Ren’s room, but the relentless heat in her chest was eroding her brain. The moans she could no longer suppress filled the room.
“Miss Ren…” Hearing footsteps, the girl’s fingers clawed into the sofa, digging in so deep they nearly punctured the fabric. Using that as leverage, she forced her trembling legs to stand.
“I…” She bit her lip hard after just one word. The boiling heat inside wouldn’t let her finish a sentence. She used every ounce of strength she had left just to maintain a shred of dignity in front of her savior.
“Don’t speak,” Ren Xuan stopped her, rushing forward to support her.
This contact was like a raging fire meeting dry kindling.
The moment that scorching body touched Ren Xuan’s cool hands, the girl’s last bit of reason almost evaporated.
So cool…
So comfortable…
Not enough…
She wanted more. Like a fish that had been flopping on dry land for too long, a few drops of rain had finally fallen on her; she opened her mouth wide, desperate for the next drop. Her body, suppressed for too long, screamed from the depths of her soul: closer, get closer…
There was no room left for thought.
Unsatisfied with just hand contact, the girl clung to her, an unbearable moan escaping her throat.
Ren Xuan froze in place.
Having accepted this mission to “keep a mistress then dump her,” Ren Xuan hadn’t expected the two of them to remain completely “innocent.” However, Ren Xuan had always been a mere passerby in other people’s love stories; she wasn’t interested in anyone, regardless of gender.
She could accept acting a part for the sake of her life, but her body was her own; she hadn’t planned on giving up her chastity.
She knew the girl wasn’t doing this on purpose.
The torment of such a “fire” was unbearable. Deciding instantly, Ren Xuan reached for a glass on the coffee table and poured the water directly over the girl’s head.
The girl’s grip loosened, and her body slumped softly to the floor. The brief moment of clarity brought her intense shame.
“To the bathroom?” Ren Xuan cut her off before she could speak.
“Mhm,” the girl murmured vaguely, her discomfort leaving her no room for words. Ren Xuan helped her up again, this time supporting her through a thin layer of clothing.
It was less “supporting” and more “dragging” as the two of them wobbled toward the bathroom. Ren Xuan pushed her directly into the bathtub. The water was freezing, but it was the only way.
The icy water helped the girl regain most of her senses. “Miss… Miss Ren, you…”
“I’m going out first.” Ren Xuan knew what she wanted to say. She had closed her eyes the moment they entered the bathroom. Turning around, Ren Xuan added with a hint of worry, “Call me if anything happens. I’ll be right outside the door.”
“Okay.” As the girl answered, her dazed eyes drifted toward the thick frosted glass door. She could only see a blurred silhouette, but it gave her an immense sense of peace.
The freezing water didn’t seem so hard to endure anymore. She closed her eyes, trying to dispel the heat, occasionally hearing Ren Xuan’s soft, gentle voice from outside.
But the drug was too potent. The girl shook her dizzy head as her consciousness began to slip away again…
The moment Ren Xuan stepped out and closed the door, she called a hospital for advice. Time was too tight; the doctor suggested that if she had a partner, they should help, otherwise, she would just have to endure it.
Hanging up, Ren Xuan thought: if this girl had a lover, being sent to an old man’s bed wasn’t exactly a proud story to share. Unless the girl volunteered the information, Ren Xuan wouldn’t bring it up.
Besides, Ren Xuan had already guessed this was the female lead. It was unlikely she had a lover; otherwise, why would she eventually accept being “kept” by the original Ren Xuan?
Combining the name “Director Zhang” with the “entertainment industry” keyword from the synopsis, Ren Xuan searched the web but found nothing on the girl. She continued searching, occasionally calling out to the person in the bathroom.
There was no verbal response, but the occasional splash of water gave Ren Xuan her answer.
After standing by the door for about forty minutes, the splashing stopped. Ren Xuan called out loudly twice, but there was no reply.
Just as Ren Xuan was about to break in—
“I’m okay.”
“Can you really keep going?” Ren Xuan frowned.
After those few shouts, Ren Xuan was starting to regret her choice. She didn’t know what kind of drug that pair had given the girl. Making her suffer through it alone seemed too cruel for a young girl. Ren Xuan was almost ready to find someone to come in and help.
“I can.”
The girl’s voice was much steadier now, her speech clearer. Ren Xuan knew she had made it through the worst of it and felt a wave of relief. Then she heard the girl’s bashful voice: “Miss Ren, could you lend me some clothes?”
“That was thoughtless of me.” Ren Xuan hurried to the bedroom. Being on a business trip, she had plenty of clothes in her suitcase. She picked out a few items she hadn’t worn, along with brand-new undergarments.
Uncertain about the sizes, Ren Xuan knit her brows and called downstairs. Based on the physique she had seen, she listed a series of sizes. The staff was efficient; a few minutes later, they appeared at her door. Ren Xuan thanked them, closed the door, and hurried back to the bathroom, passing the clothes through the crack in the door.
Without lingering, she went back to the living room.
About ten minutes later, the girl walked out.
Her eyes were moist, her lashes trembling, as she took small, hesitant steps toward Ren Xuan. She kept her eyes down, her legs pressed together, feet almost touching. Her pale lips parted to speak, but Ren Xuan spoke first:
“I can’t remember if I’ve worn those clothes before, so I hope you don’t mind.”
Before the girl could react, Ren Xuan added, “The undergarments were just brought up. I just took the tags off, so please don’t worry about those.”
