After I Picked Up the Movie Queen Who Was Pretending to Be an Alpha - Chapter 8
As Pei Suyuan stood in front of Building B3 near the scenic lake in the North District of Huajiang Court, she suddenly snapped to her senses, the haze of alcohol finally lifting.
—Little Cheese.
—Sister would actually like to ask you out.
During the phone call, after her initial shiver left her speechless, it was Wei Jinzhi who spoke. It was Wei Jinzhi’s raspy, soft, and seductive voice that said: “Little Cheese, Sister would actually like to ask you out.”
Then, it was as if Pei Suyuan could smell the marshmallow pheromones through the phone. Sweet and cloying. They carried a sense of enchantment that made her head spin. She didn’t even know how she had walked all the way here.
Autumn had begun, and with the rain from the previous few days, it should have been colder standing by the lake. But Pei Suyuan didn’t feel cold at all. In fact, she felt a bit hot. She unbuttoned her jacket, revealing her black T-shirt. With one less layer of obstruction, she felt a brief trace of chill—but only for a second, because the moment she saw someone passing by, a surge of shame rose within her.
Deep down, she asked herself: What am I doing?
Yet her body only grew warmer. Seeing Wei Jinzhi walk out of the building entrance, she felt so uneasy that she took out her phone and looked down at it, trying to hide herself.
The woman drew closer. Wei Jinzhi was draped in a grey sweater jacket, her long legs bare. Under the moonlight, they were so white it was dazzling. Pei Suyuan watched, feeling nervous.
Wei Jinzhi, however, was perfectly composed. Her “peach blossom” eyes curved as she greeted Pei Suyuan: “Have you been waiting long? Is it cold?”
Wei Jinzhi was clearly the one wearing less, yet she was the one asking if Pei was cold… Pei Suyuan shook her head, her gaze subconsciously dropping. After hesitating for a long time, she said with concern: “You’re the one who’s cold. You shouldn’t have come downstairs dressed like this.”
Wei Jinzhi paused slightly, not expecting those words from Pei Suyuan. They sounded intimate, almost like a scolding. Her eyes curved even more, but her tongue remained playful: “But you’re the one who called me~” she teased. “And why didn’t you reply to the message I sent you?”
Pei Suyuan stared at the phone Wei Jinzhi was waving. Her face flushed with embarrassment. She had wanted to ask how Wei knew she was the one in the game, but she was too shy to ask. Instead, she walked right up to her, quickly stripped off her own jacket, and held it out in front of Wei Jinzhi.
Stumbling over her words, she said: “Y-you… use my jacket… to cover your legs.”
Wei Jinzhi put down her phone and blinked hard, her voice sounding almost like a child acting spoiled: “I have to hold my sweater. Can you help me, please?”
Can you help me…
The softness was intoxicating.
For a moment, Pei Suyuan forgot that the woman had just been waving her phone with a perfectly functional hand. With trembling fingers, she wrapped the jacket around Wei Jinzhi’s waist from behind and tied a knot.
“There…” When she looked up again, she was met directly by Wei Jinzhi’s smiling face. Before she could react, she felt a sudden warmth on her forehead.
When Pei Suyuan lifted her head, Wei Jinzhi’s gaze was momentarily hazy. She bit her lip as if to tell her: It wasn’t on purpose. It was just an accident.
Pei Suyuan knew exactly how close she had been to Wei Jinzhi when she looked up. An “accident” like that wasn’t hard to understand. She stood up straight, wanting to apologize for this “accidental” kiss—even though she was the one who had been kissed.
She kept her eyes down, her pupils darting back and forth. She was uneasy. Uneasy about her own impulsiveness, and uneasy about that kiss.
Standing face-to-face, it was hard to say who had asked out whom. Pei made the call, but Wei said the words. After a long silence, she felt Wei Jinzhi move very close to her. If she looked up even slightly, she would see that exquisite, beautiful face. So she didn’t dare look up.
Finally, she heard Wei Jinzhi ask: “We’ve met before, haven’t we?”
The words “haven’t we” were light, a mix of doubt and a desire for confirmation.
Pei Suyuan nodded, letting out a soft “Mhm.”
“Aren’t you curious why I’m an Omega?” The second question came immediately after. This question forced Pei Suyuan to look up and meet her eyes.
“I… I’m not curious.”
Pei paused for a second to think. She really wasn’t curious. Everyone has unspeakable secrets. She figured Wei Jinzhi’s secret was hiding her Omega status. As for herself, she had countless secrets that were hard to talk about; even her best friend Yan Xin only knew the basics.
Remembering the past made Pei Suyuan prone to daydreaming. Her vision lost focus on Wei Jinzhi’s face, and she stared at the ground.
Wei Jinzhi was staring at her. She was quite satisfied that Pei wasn’t curious. Then, she wanted to be even more satisfied. “Why aren’t you curious?”
“Huh…?” Pei Suyuan’s thoughts had drifted far away and were jerked back by Wei Jinzhi. She didn’t react in time, her eyes wide and round as she looked at the woman.
Suddenly, Wei Jinzhi burst out laughing. Her eyes curved into crescents. This was a side of Wei Jinzhi that Pei had never seen—and never thought she would see.
“I… you… please don’t laugh,” Pei said, feeling shy. Her fingers twitched slightly; she wanted to cover Wei Jinzhi’s mouth but felt it would be extremely rude. They had been physically intimate before, so covering her mouth should have been nothing, but Pei Suyuan was sober now. She couldn’t do it, so she could only use her voice to remind her.
Wei Jinzhi didn’t laugh for long. She clutched her sweater tight and said, “I’m a bit cold. Shall we go upstairs to talk?”
Pei Suyuan didn’t move. Instead, she slowly pulled some money out of her pocket. Holding it out to Wei Jinzhi, she said with embarrassment: “Last time… last time… you said it was mutual help. You shouldn’t have given me money.”
Actually, Pei had another thought: Was she trying to humiliate me? Humiliate me as an Alpha you can just buy in a club? But she was too ashamed to say it. It felt even more embarrassing to say out loud, so she chose not to ask.
Wei Jinzhi looked at the banknotes. Her gaze grew softer, and also guiltier. She snatched the money with a quick hand. In a melodic voice, she said: “That money… I just wanted to test you. Consider it ‘hush money.’”
Hush money…
Pei still felt a sting of humiliation, but the fact that Wei Jinzhi was honest about her concerns made it easier to accept. Still, she was confused: why did it have to be her that night?
She asked the question. Wei Jinzhi was silent for so long that Pei thought she wouldn’t answer. But then, Wei Jinzhi suddenly took her hand. An Omega’s constitution is naturally cold; after standing outside for so long, her hand was so chilly that Pei flinched.
Wei Jinzhi gripped it tighter. She moved very close—close enough for Pei to smell the faint marshmallow scent. Since Wei was a few centimeters shorter, Pei could easily see into those shimmering eyes. Wei’s eyes were curved and beautiful as she spoke. Her face was completely bare of makeup, but her lips were pink.
Wei Jinzhi said: “That day truly was an accident. Honestly, I wanted to thank you. But since we didn’t really know each other, I wanted to use that method to test you.”
The Omega was honest once again. The part of Pei Suyuan’s heart that wanted to scold her softened.
“It turns out, you are a very good person,” Wei continued. “I’m almost thirty. You should know that when an Omega reaches this age, they need to upgrade their pheromone suppressants. I happened to be too busy and overlooked it, which led to what happened that day.”
So… that was why Wei Jinzhi had wanted to be marked that night. She had treated her like a living suppressant.
Usually, any Alpha would feel their dignity challenged by such a thing. Pei Suyuan was no exception; her brow furrowed slightly. She tried to hide her feelings, but she couldn’t escape Wei Jinzhi’s eyes.
Wei Jinzhi’s soft hand pinched the Alpha’s chin, while her other hand smoothed out the frown on Pei’s brow. She chuckled softly and said, “Actually, that day was… quite nice.”
Then she asked: “What about you? Did you think it was sweet?”
Pei Suyuan’s brain felt like it exploded. Wei Jinzhi’s voice was soft and drawn out, sounding as if she were acting spoiled. And that sweet marshmallow scent was flooding her nose—soft and cloying.
Then, her lips were gently captured by Wei Jinzhi. Right there on the deserted street. Wei Jinzhi’s lips were just as sweet as in her hazy memories.
Pei Suyuan froze for a second, then instinctively pulled that slender waist into her arms. She let out a satisfied sigh in her heart. Her cheese-scented Alpha pheromones surged until Wei Jinzhi’s body grew softer and softer, her arms hooking around Pei’s neck. As Wei let out a charming moan, Pei Suyuan’s consciousness returned.
She realized her hand had already slid under the sweater toward a narrower part of the woman’s body. A sense of shame surged, and the deep-seated cowardice in Pei’s bones flared up; she wanted to pull her hand away.
Wei Jinzhi didn’t give her the chance. She pressed Pei’s hand down, rubbing it against her waist. Pei Suyuan felt that Wei Jinzhi wasn’t a marshmallow. She was a poppy—an addictive poppy that made people fall into the abyss.
She was lost and frantic. Instinct pushed her forward, but a voice in her head told her this was wrong. It was wrong to call, and wrong to come to Building B3. But Wei Jinzhi was holding her too tightly. So tightly that fine beads of sweat appeared on Pei’s forehead.
Vrrr…
Pei Suyuan’s phone vibrated, and the two had to pull apart. Because of the kiss, a faint blush had stained Wei Jinzhi’s pale face, making her look stunning. She was breathing slightly hard and gestured with her eyes for Pei to answer the phone.
The Alpha staring at her was likely even redder in the face; her dazed look was adorable. Wei Jinzhi’s eyes curved into crescents again. As Pei Suyuan turned her back to answer the call, Wei smiled openly, her eyes shaped like little moons.
The call didn’t last long. When Pei Suyuan turned back, the blush was gone from her face, replaced by a trace of paleness. Her breathing was even more ragged than Wei Jinzhi’s.
Her tone was urgent: “Wei, Wei Jinzhi, I’m sorry, I have an emergency… I have to go now.”
