After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 1
It felt as though she was submerged in a frigid ocean. A pain emanating from the depths of her mind, like ants gnawing, consumed Yan He’s consciousness, and she seemed to have been dragged by the wind and waves to the deepest part of the sea.
In her hazy awareness, something seemed to be unfolding in her mind, yet when she tried to look closer, there was only a blank void.
It hurts so much… it’s unbearable…
Yan He slowly opened her eyes. In her blurry vision, a glaring white light shone down. Her eyes, long deprived of light, welled up with physiological tears. Instinctively, she tried to raise her hand to shield them, but the moment her right arm lifted, she felt an intense pain. She immediately furrowed her brow, stopped the motion, and gasped as cold sweat beaded on her skin.
Following the direction of the pain, she saw her right arm wrapped in thick layers of bandages. She tried to move it slightly, but only received more searing pain in return.
What happened to her? Her body aches.
Lying flat, she couldn’t see anything. The smell of disinfectant mixed with the silence around her made Yan He feel anxious. With no other option, she tried to use her uninjured left hand to support herself and sit up. Lifting her head from the pillow brought a wave of pain, and a severe ringing started in her ears. She sat for a moment to recover until the pain subsided, then looked around.
It was a private room, fully equipped with everything necessary. Various sophisticated instruments were arranged by the bed, some with screens lit up and working. There was also a bedside cabinet, but nothing was placed on it. The room’s curtains were half-drawn, allowing a sliver of light to illuminate the dimly lit room.
What place is this? What are these instruments for?
Yan He’s chaotic consciousness managed to grasp a few thoughts. Judging by her injuries and the hospital gown, she should be in a hospital. But why was she here? Who was she?
Yan He tried to recall what had happened before, but apart from the headache from overthinking, her mind was completely blank.
She seemed to have lost her memory.
The room was silent, and all she could hear was her own helpless, ragged breathing. The overhead light made Yan He’s thin face appear even paler. She wanted to get out of bed and turn off the harsh light, but the moment she moved to stand, a dull pain shot through her right leg.
“Hiss—” She winced in pain, used her left hand to pull back the blanket, and saw that her right leg was also heavily wrapped in bandages and gauze.
Yan He’s breathing caught. What exactly happened to her? What happened before? How could she have sustained such serious injuries?
Unable to get out of bed, Yan He could only sit up and carefully examine the room, hoping to find some clues.
The room was extremely clean. Aside from the bed she was lying on, there were no signs of anyone else, as if she had been the only occupant the entire time. Yet, she couldn’t recall who she was.
Frustrated, Yan He covered her head, her fingers brushing against the rough texture of cloth. Only then did she realize her head was also bandaged. She had to release her hands, trying not to touch the wound.
Just as she was about to further examine her injured arm, the door suddenly opened, followed by a gasp.
“Miss Yan! You’re awake!”
Miss Yan? Is that her name?
Yan He raised her head, meeting the woman at the door’s excited and fervent gaze. A pair of clear pupils held confusion and scrutiny.
Lin Le clearly didn’t notice Yan He’s abnormality. She was still excited on her own, quickly walking to her side, looking her up and down.
“I must not be dreaming! You’ve been unconscious for several days! CEO Lu and all of us have been worried sick. I’m so glad you woke up. Are you uncomfortable anywhere right now?”
The woman spoke on and on, oblivious to Yan He’s strange behavior. Yan He couldn’t process so much information at once, and seeing that the woman was about to continue, she had no choice but to interrupt.
“Uh…” she started, her voice hoarse, which made her cough. After a brief pause, she spoke slowly, her words coming out haltingly. Lin Le had just finished editing and sending a message to Lu Youqing, and looked up, waiting for her to finish.
“Miss Yan, is that… my name?”
As soon as she finished, Yan He saw the excited woman suddenly freeze. The next second, her phone slipped from her grasp and clattered loudly onto the silent floor.
Feeling a bit awkward, Yan He touched her nose, her voice no longer as hoarse as before: “Sorry, I… seem to have… lost my memory.”
Lin Le’s mouth opened and closed soundlessly. Ignoring the phone on the floor, she walked over and stared blankly at Yan He. Seeing the clear, confused eyes that were entirely unlike the Yan He she knew, she had no choice but to believe it.
“Miss Yan, you…”
“Who are you?” Yan He asked first, her gaze full of caution.
“Miss Yan, your name is Yan He. I’m Lin Le, CEO Lu’s assistant,” Lin Le explained quickly, sensing her defensive attitude.
“You were in a car accident a few days ago and have been unconscious until now. Do you remember anything?” she asked.
Yan He barely managed to process her words. She tried to recall, then shook her head.
“No way! You really lost your memory?”
“I don’t remember anything,” Yan He’s tone was flat. Then she asked Lin Le, “CEO Lu… who is that? Do I know her?”
Lin Le paused, her expression complicated. She bit her lip in hesitation.
How should she explain Yan He and Lu Youqing’s relationship? She was just a small assistant and didn’t fully understand what went on between the two of them. Recalling the recent gossip circulating in the industry, her head instantly started throbbing.
Lin Le stepped back, picked up her phone, opened the photo album, and handed the phone to Yan He, changing the subject.
“CEO Lu is your… er… she’s on her way here now. During the days you were unconscious, she personally cooked every meal, waiting for you to wake up to eat together. These are some photos I took of the two of you before. You can take a look and see if anything jogs your memory.”
Yan He lowered her gaze, which fell upon two unfamiliar women standing in the center of the screen. The woman on the left looked cool and distant, yet her hand was naturally holding the hand of the woman beside her. The woman on the right smiled seductively and gently, gazing at the left woman with eyes full of love. Almost instantly, Yan He heard her own heart beat wildly.
“This is you, and this is CEO Lu,” Lin Le said, then turned and left the room.
“I’ll go find the doctor. Miss Yan, please look at the album first. CEO Lu should be back any moment.”
Yan He didn’t register what Lin Le was saying. All her senses were drawn to the woman on the screen. The woman’s eyes were like a deep, captivating spring, easily capturing her attention.
When she finally reacted, she instinctively looked up at the door, and her gaze truly fell into that warm, moist spring.
The woman from the photo was standing by the door right now. She didn’t know how long she had been standing there, but her dark eyes were filled with mist, looking as if tears would fall at any second.
For some reason, Yan He’s heart suddenly clenched. In that split second, she thought that while the woman’s face in the camera was already captivating, in reality, her beauty surpassed it tenfold.
Being looked at with such a pitiful, helpless expression, Yan He awkwardly lowered her eyes. Her heart began to race, and she spoke dazedly.
“You…”
“A-He.” Before Yan He could speak further, the woman walked in, placed a takeout container aside, and stood in front of Yan He. Seeing Yan He covered in injuries, she couldn’t help but let tears fall. She leaned down, avoiding the wounds, and gently embraced Yan He.
Yan He froze completely. The woman’s rich scent wrapped around her like a dense silk net, and her heart felt tightly bound, causing her to involuntarily tremble.
“I’m sorry, A-He… I was so scared…” Lu Youqing sobbed against Yan He’s shoulder, her heart tormented as if sliced by a thousand knives. The past week had burned away all her other emotions; she was utterly docile now, swept up only by a terrifying wave of lingering fear. She still couldn’t bear to remember the scene from before. Thinking of it made her cry in a low, broken voice.
“Please, don’t ever do that again, okay?”
Crying so sorrowfully, looking so utterly pitiable, like a boat drifting at sea with all her reliance placed on Yan He—anyone who saw her would feel their heart soften.
Tears soaked Yan He’s gown. The woman’s scent lingered at her nose, and her mind was momentarily confused. Many images seemed to flash before her eyes, but when she tried to grasp them, they vanished into emptiness.
Yan He was at a loss. The moment the woman hugged her, her heart raced, and her body went rigid. A slight urge to pull away was suppressed. Not knowing what to say, she could only speak haltingly.
“Are you… CEO Lu?”
The person in her arms suddenly stiffened. Yan He seemed to hear a sound of disbelief escape her. Startled, she realized she was now quite adept at giving her explanation.
“Sorry, I seem to have… lost my memory. Who are you?”
The woman remained in the embracing position, but the sound of her breathing next to Yan He’s ear seemed to halt.
Just as Yan He started to feel an irresistible prickle of unease and was about to push the woman away, the person in front of her finally released her.
She let go of Yan He, maintaining a distance of about 20 centimeters. Her head was slightly bowed, and her long, raven-wing-like lashes shielded the light, preventing Yan He from seeing the emotion in her eyes. Yan He frowned in confusion. The next second, the woman lifted her head. She was so close that Yan He could even see her own reflection in the woman’s moist eyes.
The woman spoke, her wet lips curved into a slight smile. Her voice, husky from crying, was still seductively gentle. Every word, like the serpent in the Garden of Eden tempting a taste of the forbidden fruit, stirred Yan He’s emotions.
“My name is Lu Youqing, A-He. I am your fiancée.”
“Don’t you remember me?”
“Or are you still angry with me and don’t want to see me?”
