After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 10
Lin Le was also finishing her own lunch. Hearing the question, she looked up from her food container.
“Did CEO Lu not tell you?”
Yan He shook her head: “I haven’t asked her.” As she spoke, she lowered her head, looking somewhat shy.
“I miss her a little.”
Lin Le was “shipping” them so hard her smile almost reached the sky. Naturally, she didn’t overthink it. She hurriedly swallowed the rice in her mouth and spoke.
“Actually, CEO Lu’s profession is an actress. Her new movie An Shan was released recently, so she’s been busy promoting it in various cities. However, CEO Lu is promoting in Qingcheng cinemas these two days. If work goes smoothly, she might even be back tonight.”
She blinked: “You’ll see her very soon.”
Yan He curved her lips, nodding with a bashful smile, then brought it up as if in passing.
“By the way, you’re Lu Youqing’s assistant—do you know what my job is? Are we… public?”
At this, Lin Le’s expression froze. She pursed her lips, seemingly trying hard to recall the answer to Yan He’s question.
Soon, under Yan He’s expectant gaze, she shook her head: “I don’t know. I only started working as CEO Lu’s assistant this year, and I haven’t had much contact with you, Miss Yan. You guys aren’t public. I remember CEO Lu mentioned before that you didn’t want to go public; it was supposed to wait until after the wedding. So, there probably isn’t any information about you online.”
She suddenly remembered something: “Regarding your work, you can ask CEO Lu directly. She’s your fiancée, she knows best.”
Hearing this, Yan He gave a somewhat lonely smile. Her features were naturally of the “cool and distant” type; it was only because she usually amused herself that she didn’t seem so unapproachable. Now, with her brows drooping, she looked quite like a stray puppy, making it hard for anyone not to feel soft-hearted.
“I don’t want to ask her,” she said. “Lu Youqing has been so busy these days and still has to care for me. She definitely wouldn’t want me to go back to work so soon. But regarding her…” She spoke as if caught in a dilemma, biting her lip nervously.
“You feel guilty toward her, so you want to work early to make it up to her?” Lin Le finished the sentence for her.
Yan He nodded and said conflictedly, “Don’t tell her. I don’t want her to worry about me anymore.”
Lin Le naturally patted her chest in guarantee: “Of course. Don’t worry, Miss Yan. My, Lin Le’s, lips are sealed.”
The corners of Yan He’s lowered mouth twitched upward, but she quickly suppressed it and continued her inquiry.
“You’re Lu Youqing’s assistant—can you tell me more about her? I want to understand her better. Or tell me about us; either is fine,” Yan He said.
“Well,” Lin Le held her chin, frowning in thought: “CEO Lu’s matters are mostly covered in her browser biography. As an assistant, I can’t interfere too much. The person who knows the most about her should be her manager, Xue Yi.”
“Regarding you and her…” Lin Le recalled that phone call from two days ago and suddenly didn’t know how to speak. She could only prevaricate: “The affection between you and CEO Lu is obvious to all of us. Even before the accident, your relationship was very good. Yes, very good.” She flashed an impeccable smile.
Yan He lowered her head, her long lashes fluttering to hide her gaze.
“Is that so? Then it seems my amnesia is truly a pity.”
“You can’t say that. The memories are gone, but the person is still here. You and CEO Lu can create even more beautiful memories,” Lin Le comforted her.
Yan He nodded slowly with her head down: “Miss Lin, thank you for telling me so much.”
Lin Le thought to herself: Did I actually say anything important?
Without Lu Youqing there to chat with her, and not being close enough to Lin Le to say much more, Yan He felt she had reached a dead end even after coaxing some words out of Lin Le.
Remembering that Lu Youqing’s job was an actress, she simply opened her phone to search for Lu Youqing’s movies and TV shows. She found a movie starring Lu Youqing as a princess of a fallen kingdom seeking revenge for her country and clicked play.
Initially, Yan He was relaxed. But after Lu Youqing appeared in the movie, her gaze was instantly captured by this young girl with blood on her face and filthy clothes, yet with eyes that were exceptionally sharp and angry. Despite having the exact same face as Lu Youqing, the impression she gave Yan He was completely different.
The Lu Youqing who accompanied her was gentle, wrapping around her like water. But the person in the movie perfectly interpreted the anger, despair, and subsequent tenacity of a princess. Yan He felt her heart pounding wildly, her senses completely captivated as she stared blankly at the screen.
When she finally snapped out of it and looked at the horizon, she realized the sky was already painted with the glow of sunset. She dazed for a moment, closed the tablet, and felt ripples in her heart.
This was a different Lu Youqing—a Lu Youqing who exuded a charismatic personality during work, making it impossible to look away. Yan He suddenly remembered the video she had seen earlier of fans screaming wildly at her movie promotion.
She suddenly understood the mindset of those fans. If she were there, she would definitely cheer for Lu Youqing too.
She suddenly wanted to say something to Lu Youqing and hurriedly opened the chat app. But when it came to actually typing something, her hand stopped.
It was completely dark outside. The lights weren’t on in the room; only a sliver of light from the hallway spilled through the door crack. Yan He hid in the darkness, a complex emotion rising in her heart.
She exited the chat and pressed her forehead, sighing deeply.
The dark room made Yan He a little afraid. She stood up to turn on the wall light and noticed a red dot suddenly pop up in the corner of her phone.
She turned on the light, took the phone, and curiously clicked in. It was a post from Lu Youqing on her Moments.
Yan He’s heart trembled. She clicked in carefully and was immediately drawn to a pair of slender, fair hands.
The setting of the photo seemed to be a dinner table. The owner of the hands was casually holding a glass of wine next to food that hadn’t been touched yet, looking very leisurely.
The caption read: [Cast dinner.]
Yan He’s eyes lit up as if she had opened the door to a new world. She clicked into Lu Youqing’s profile and found that her Moments were open to her. Her heart felt as if it were being struck by a drum.
Scrolling down slowly, Yan He found that Lu Youqing enjoyed sharing her life on Moments. This recent post was the first one she had made since the car accident. The previous posts were small daily routines from the set or handicrafts she made at home.
Yan He’s heart fluttered. Through Lu Youqing’s Moments, she seemed to get to know the Lu Youqing who was in love with her before the amnesia. The inexplicable dread in her heart was mostly soothed.
There were many posts. Yan He scrolled for a long time before reaching the bottom. Looking at the dates, she used to post basically every day. Yan He noticed that among her past posts, the most frequent were photos of home baking and handicrafts, and she didn’t show her face much—at most, she would show a hand like in today’s dinner photo.
Lu Youqing seemed to love making things.
Lu Youqing: [Freshly baked strawberry cake. She said it’s delicious.]
[Overtime with the cast.]
[Today’s chiffon cake was a failure.]
[Made some nougat, I wonder if she’ll like it.]
She? Does that refer to Yan He?
Yan He couldn’t help but read them one by one, trying to find evidence of her and Lu Youqing being in love. She looked at the photos, secretly trying to slow her heartbeat. In those ten or so minutes, she felt she had seen another side of Lu Youqing besides the gentle one she knew.
The gentle Lu Youqing, the sharp Lu Youqing, the baking Lu Youqing.
These were all Lu Youqing—her lover who was once known but was now a stranger.
Yan He’s mood was complex. Her fingertips brushed the screen as she dazed at the scene in the photo. Then, she accidentally tapped and “liked” the post.
Yan He: “!”
Oh no!
She frantically tried to unlike it, but her finger stopped just before touching the screen. She started worrying that if she unliked it and Lu Youqing could still see it, Lu Youqing would surely return with a mischievous smile and ask why she unliked it.
It might be better not to unlike it. Surely many people would like Lu Youqing’s posts; with so many people, maybe she wouldn’t notice.
Yan He comforted herself this way and slowly exited the app, planning to leave it at that. But sitting on the bed, her heart wouldn’t calm down at all.
After struggling for half an hour, she finally opened the app again, intending to unlike it.
But just as her finger tapped on Lu Youqing’s avatar in the chat box, she suddenly saw the avatar shake. Immediately, a system message popped up in the chat:
[You nudged Lu Youqing.]
Yan He: “…”
She was frantically trying to undo it when she saw Lu Youqing send a message.
[What’s wrong?]
Yan He: …
How did she reply so fast? Wasn’t she at a cast dinner? Yan He’s thoughts were a mess. Just as she was trying to think of an excuse to brush it off, her phone rang.
Not getting a reply, Lu Youqing had directly called her on a video chat out of worry.
Yan He swallowed nervously and swiped up to answer.
“Hello?”
“A-He, you haven’t messaged me for a long time.” The woman’s voice on the other end of the phone was incredibly soft, containing a hint of a pout. It was like eating a bite of marshmallow; Yan He’s tension suddenly dissipated.
“I didn’t,” she explained. “I spent the afternoon watching your movies and forgot to message.” She didn’t mention a word about being scared off by Lu Youqing calling her “wife” earlier.
“Is that so?” Lu Youqing broke into a smile, her voice laced with amusement. “But I still can’t forgive you.” She continued, “I’ve been thinking about you all afternoon. I really want to see you.”
A pool of melting spring rain poured into Yan He’s heart. Lu Youqing’s voice was too seductive; across the phone, she could almost see Lu Youqing’s expression. A blush crept onto her ears.
“Where are you? Are you coming back tonight?” Moved by Lu Youqing’s voice, Yan He couldn’t help but ask. Her heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly covered her mouth. The way she said that made her sound like a little wife waiting bitterly at home for her spouse.
As expected, the sound of the woman’s soft laughter came through the speaker, making the blush on Yan He’s cheeks deepen.
“I miss you so much, so much…” Rarely, Lu Youqing didn’t say anything further to tease her. She just kept repeating the words “miss you,” her voice becoming slower and more melodious. Unknowingly, an air of romantic ambiguity settled in, yet she seemed not to notice, continuing to say “I miss A-He so much.”
It was a sticky sweetness, like melting marshmallows. Yan He’s ears turned red listening to it. She wanted to tell her to stop, but then she heard the sound of car horns and the whistling of wind through the speaker. She suddenly remembered Lu Youqing’s post from earlier.
“Lu Youqing, where are you?”
