After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 11
“I’m in the car; I’ll be back very soon.” Lu Youqing’s voice was full of smiles, her tone still slow.
“Are you drunk?” Yan He’s tone became tinged with worry, and her voice unconsciously softened.
“I had a little, but I’m not drunk.”
“People who are drunk usually say they aren’t,” Yan He said with a bitter smile. “Do you know where you are right now? Where is the car?” As she spoke, she switched to a map app, preparing to look up Lu Youqing’s location, only to realize she didn’t even know the name of the hospital she was staying in.
The background noise on the other end suddenly became loud, as if people were talking. Then, she felt as if the phone had been taken away from Lu Youqing. Yan He frowned, her expression becoming grave without her even realizing it.
“Hello, Miss Yan, I am Xue Yi.” A stranger’s female voice came from the speaker. Yan He froze for a moment, unable to respond in time.
The person on the other end seemed to realize her amnesia and quickly added: “I am Lu Youqing’s manager.”
Yan He searched for the name “Xue Yi” in her mind, remembering she had seen it on Lu Youqing’s phone and heard her mention it. Her racing heart finally settled.
She cleared her throat: “Hello.”
The car must have been stopped at a red light. Xue Yi held the phone and said quickly, “Lu Youqing is with me. We should arrive at the hospital in about half an hour. Don’t worry.”
Yan He gripped her phone and gave a low “Mm”: “Thank you for your hard work, Sister Xue.”
Xue Yi was visibly stunned. She looked in the rearview mirror at Lu Youqing, who was leaning against the open window, staring at the moonlight and letting the wind blow through her hair. This version of Lu Youqing seemed like a completely different person from the one who had been chirping with joy after receiving Yan He’s message earlier. Xue Yi sighed softly and retracted her gaze.
“Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’m giving the phone back to Miss Lu,” she said. Before she could move, the female voice from the speaker hurriedly asked: “Sister Xue, is Lu Youqing… is she drunk?”
Xue Yi raised an eyebrow, surprised by her phrasing: “It’s hard to avoid drinking at a cast dinner. You don’t need to worry; Miss Lu knows her limits.”
The phone changed hands once more, and Yan He again heard Lu Youqing’s weary voice: “A-He.”
Yan He sighed softly: “Rest for a bit. Don’t worry about talking to me. Does your head hurt?”
Lu Youqing shook her head. The next second, remembering she was on a voice call, she frowned in protest and tapped the screen to switch to video.
Seeing the request on her screen, Yan He instinctively hit accept. A second later, the content of the screen changed.
The setting was dim, making it hard to see clearly. As the car sped along, the lights from distant buildings briefly illuminated the woman. With long hair and dark eyes, she wore a long dress; her skin was flushed pink from the alcohol, and her eyes seemed to hold the depth of rich wine, making one feel intoxicated with a single look.
Because of the alcohol, Lu Youqing’s cheeks were no longer pale but glowed with a deep blush. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye looked even more prominent and alluring.
Lu Youqing leaned casually against the seat, looking at Yan He with a faint smile. Her gentle gaze melted into the night; every expression looked as if it were steeped in wine.
“A-He,” she spoke, her voice tender and lingering. Just two syllables, yet they seemed to tell the story of her longing for the entire day.
Yan He’s eyes suddenly reddened. She looked away and tilted her head up so Lu Youqing wouldn’t see: “Close your eyes and rest well. I’ll watch you.”
Perhaps truly exhausted, Lu Youqing gave a soft “Mm,” closed her eyes, and propped up her elbow to rest.
The phone was propped up to ensure Yan He could see her.
Outside, the lights were brilliant; inside the car, there was a soft glow. Yan He turned her gaze to the moonlight outside the window, listening to the sound of the car driving through the speaker. She seemed to become intoxicated along with Lu Youqing in this night.
Xue Yi said half an hour, and exactly half an hour later, the car stopped in the hospital parking lot. Listening to the sound of the engine cutting out, Yan He watched Lu Youqing, who still had her eyes closed, and spoke softly.
“Lu Youqing, wake up.”
Lu Youqing frowned slightly in her sleep, murmuring a few soft words that Yan He couldn’t quite hear through the phone. “We’re at the hospital,” Yan He continued.
Lu Youqing woke up in a haze, took her phone, and walked toward the hospital accompanied by Xue Yi.
The elevator signal was poor, so the two hung up the phone first. Yan He set her phone down and sat at the head of the bed, staring blankly at a spot in the room.
Soon, she heard the faintest sound of the door opening. Yan He’s breath hitched as she looked up, meeting Lu Youqing’s gaze as she pushed the door open.
Lu Youqing held her phone, gazing tenderly at Yan He. The room’s light seemed to fall entirely upon her. She smiled and walked slowly toward Yan He.
“A-He, I’ve come out of the phone,” she said. Because of the alcohol, her face was even more flushed than it appeared in the video. Her eyes were misty now, truly looking somewhat drunk.
As she approached, the crisp scent of wine swirled around Yan He’s nose. She looked at Lu Youqing, their gazes intersecting.
For a moment, only the sound of Lu Youqing’s footsteps filled the room. She walked to Yan He’s side and sat on the bed, her eyes shining. She raised a finger and traced it across Yan He’s fair neck.
The tingling sensation made Yan He shiver. She instinctively leaned back, but Lu Youqing noticed and firmly gripped her shoulders.
“I missed you so much. Did you miss me?” Her tone was a bit piteous as she looked at Yan He with drooping brows.
Yan He turned her head away awkwardly: “No.”
Then she heard the woman in front of her let out a sudden laugh. Her head, which she had just turned away, was forced back by Lu Youqing to face her.
Lu Youqing shook her head, her face full of a triumphant smile: “A-He is lying. I saw you like my post on Moments.”
Yan He remained stubborn: “You’re drunk. You saw wrong.”
Lu Youqing couldn’t stop laughing. She leaned against Yan He’s shoulder as if she had no bones.
The crisp fragrance of wine enveloped Yan He. Perhaps she too was becoming a bit “drunk” from the proximity; her eyes grew misty. Surprisingly, she didn’t push Lu Youqing away, allowing her to nestle in her arms.
Lu Youqing lightly stroked her cheek, looking up with eyes filled with autumn-water tenderness. Yan He felt a bit ticklish and looked down at her. Their eyes met by coincidence.
The scent of wine spread through the room, soaking into every inch of skin. The temperature in the room rose with a romantic haze. Whether it was the alcohol or something else, Lu Youqing suddenly tilted her head up and kissed Yan He on the lips.
The gentle wine and the hazy night turned into a shimmering river, swirling around both of their hearts.
The soft touch on her lips, combined with Lu Youqing’s unique fragrance and the scent of wine, gripped Yan He’s heart. A shiver traveled from the depths of her soul, gnawing at her precarious consciousness.
Yan He didn’t have time to think. Her instinctive reaction made her suddenly push Lu Youqing away. The force was so great that Lu Youqing, who was already limp in her arms with nothing to lean on, nearly fell to the floor.
