After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 12
Lu Youqing leaned against the side of the bed, her head lowered, motionless.
Yan He stared blankly at her own hand, which suddenly felt as heavy as a thousand pounds. She stammered out an explanation: “I…” She rose, wanting to touch Lu Youqing, but the other woman had already looked up, maintaining that same smile.
“A-He must be very tired. I’ll go shower first; you should go to sleep.” With that, ignoring Yan He’s panicked expression, she practically fled into the bathroom.
Watching the tightly shut shower door, Yan He felt her heart ache as if it were being squeezed. She clutched her head, unable to believe her reaction had been so severe. Her heart trembled; she had pulled away almost instinctively.
Is it true that after losing one’s memory, a person truly cannot handle intimate contact?
She had genuinely hurt Lu Youqing’s feelings this time.
Yan He ran her fingers through her hair in frustration. By now, the gauze on her forehead had been removed. She dazed off, wondering how to apologize to Lu Youqing, entirely failing to notice that the sound of the water had stopped.
“A-He.” The woman’s soft, seductive voice called from the bathroom, briefly pulling Yan He’s runaway thoughts back to reality.
“A-He?” the woman called again, her voice lower than before, tinged with a slight nasal quality.
“What is it?” Yan He asked.
“Could you help me get some clothes? I was in a hurry and forgot to bring them.” Her voice sounded even more muffled.
Yan He’s breath hitched: “Okay.”
“The pajamas are on the top shelf of the cabinet,” Lu Youqing continued.
Yan He got out of bed, pushing the worries swirling in her mind to the back of her head. She naturally knew which clothes in the cabinet belonged to Lu Youqing and which were hers.
During these days in the hospital, since her injuries prevented her from showering, she spent most of her time doing sponge baths with wet towels. In the beginning, Lu Youqing helped her; she had been so shy and secretive that Lu Youqing teased her. Later, as she improved, she did it herself, so she was perfectly familiar with the layout of the wardrobe.
Yan He walked over and opened the cabinet. She took the pajamas from the top shelf and was about to close the door when the person in the bathroom spoke again.
“And… underwear.”
Yan He’s hand on the cabinet door froze. A flush spread from her ears, and for a moment, it felt as though her entire body had been scorched by fire.
“Okay,” she cleared her throat.
She stiffly moved her arm to look inside. She remembered her own undergarments were on the left side, so Lu Youqing’s must be on the right. Yan He pulled out the right-side drawer, hastily grabbed a set of items, slammed the cabinet shut, and tucked them inside the pajamas.
“I-I’m ready,” she said, her face flushed. Even though they had supposedly done everything together, her amnesia made her feel like a blank sheet of paper regarding these things.
Yan He dragged her stiff right leg to the bathroom door and knocked awkwardly.
A rustling sound came from inside. Yan He heard footsteps and the sound of dripping water. She felt as though her left hand, holding the pajamas, could hardly bear the weight.
Swish— The door was pulled open a significant crack. Moist steam rushed out, swirling around Yan He’s clothes and hair. Startled, Yan He stood frozen as the mist cleared, and Lu Youqing appeared before her.
Before Yan He could react, she locked eyes with Lu Youqing’s moist gaze. Without makeup and with her wet hair clinging to her, the woman looked even more radiant—her lips red and teeth white. In her peripheral vision, Yan He saw that Lu Youqing’s skin was so white it practically glowed, her exposed snowy skin like a mountain spring.
Yan He felt her breath stop. She frantically averted her gaze to the floor tiles, her pale cheeks turning a deep red. She failed to see the flicker of cunning in Lu Youqing’s eyes.
Lu Youqing reached out, took the pajamas, and pulled the door shut without giving Yan He a chance to linger in her daze.
Seeing Yan He’s frozen figure still standing by the door, Lu Youqing felt the pent-up gloom in her heart dissipate. Thankfully, A-He still likes my body; things haven’t reached an irreversible point.
“A-He,” she spoke. “So good.”
The sound of hurried footsteps running away echoed outside the door. Lu Youqing smiled radiantly. Even though they had done much more intimate things before, after losing her memory, Yan He had returned to being that pure girl who was too shy to face such things.
So cute.
Lu Youqing put on her underwear. Just as she was about to unfold the pajamas, her hand paused. She raised an eyebrow and proceeded to put them on.
When she came out, Yan He was sitting on the bed again, lost in thought. Lu Youqing curved her lips and walked over without saying a word.
Yan He looked up at the sound and froze instantly.
Lu Youqing’s smile deepened. She walked toward Yan He without a care in the world. Who could blame her? Yan He was the one who picked these pajamas—and she happened to pick the sheerest, most revealing set.
The pajamas, thin as a cicada’s wing, wrapped around Lu Youqing’s body, her figure partially visible with every step. The short, thin fabric barely reached her thighs. Yan He hurriedly looked away. she had only grabbed the top set of pajamas as Lu Youqing instructed; how could…
Lu Youqing walked over and sat on the chair to peel an apple for Yan He. The room fell into a deep silence.
Yan He’s mind was a mess. The moist scent drifted toward her, but she couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss from earlier. She bit her lip and spoke.
“Regarding what happened just now, I’m sorry.”
Lu Youqing looked up at her, appearing confused.
“Why are you sorry? Because you pushed me away?” She spoke so directly that Yan He no longer felt it was hard to voice. She nodded.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why I…”
“A-He.” Lu Youqing’s voice interrupted her. Yan He looked up, gazing into Lu Youqing’s deep, moist eyes.
“It’s not your fault,” Lu Youqing said. “I was too impatient; I shouldn’t have moved so fast. You have amnesia and are naturally defensive toward everything. I was too hasty—it’s my problem.”
Lu Youqing’s tone was gentle, her eyes slightly lowered. She would never blame Yan He; she only took the blame upon herself. Yan He wanted to protest, but Lu Youqing stopped her.
“But, I am A-He’s fiancée. I love A-He. I hope A-He can try to accept me. We can get to know each other slowly and start over, okay? Just… don’t push me away again.”
The woman’s voice was soft, carrying the mist of a spring rain. The guilt in Yan He’s heart deepened, and she nodded vigorously with reddened eyes.
Lu Youqing broke into a smile through her tears. Looking at Yan He, she asked tentatively, “A-He, can you give me a hug?”
Yan He wiped the tear stains from the corner of her eyes and reached out to gently pull Lu Youqing into her arms: “I will try.”
Lu Youqing nestled obediently in her embrace, listening to their synchronized heartbeats, and smiled slightly.
Yan He felt her words were a bit too mushy and wanted to change the subject. She thought of the strange person she saw this afternoon and spoke.
“Um…” She felt Lu Youqing’s questioning hum and quickly used her name.
“Lu Youqing, I saw strange people wandering outside the hospital this afternoon.”
Lu Youqing murmured against her shoulder, “Strange people?”
“People wearing vests and hats, holding cameras.” Yan He had been searching this afternoon to find out what those people were.
“Paparazzi.” Lu Youqing’s eyes narrowed, her tone unreadable.
“Yes, so you should be careful when you go out to work these few days.” Her voice was full of concern.
Lu Youqing had a smile on her lips.
“A-He is worried about me?”
This time, Yan He didn’t stubbornly deny it. She had read on her phone that paparazzi dig into celebrities’ privacy. She didn’t want them getting a hold of Lu Youqing’s private life because of her.
“Let’s be discharged in a few days. My injuries are mostly healed. After the check-up today, the doctor said the gauze on my leg can be removed soon. Let’s leave early; I’m dying of boredom.”
Lu Youqing pulled back from the embrace, her eyes deep and fixed on her. After a long silence, she spoke, but it had nothing to do with the hospital or paparazzi.
She asked: “A-He wants to go home with me?”
Yan He blinked in confusion. Once she was healed, where else would she go but home?
“Of course. Aren’t we… engaged? Of course I’m going home once I’m better.” Mentioning the engagement still made Yan He feel a bit shy.
Lu Youqing broke into a very joyful smile: “Okay. Once I finish tomorrow’s promotion, we’ll go home.”
Yan He looked at her: “You have to work tomorrow too?”
Lu Youqing used a bamboo skewer to feed a piece of apple to Yan He, smiling as she watched her eat it.
“Just one session. It’s very short and will be over soon.”
Yan He nodded and didn’t ask further.
Lu Youqing remembered the “like” from this afternoon and asked with a smile: “Did A-He see the post I made on Moments today?”
At this, Yan He’s face—which had just cooled down—heated up again. “I was just bored, just browsing.”
“Is that so?” Lu Youqing clearly didn’t believe it.
“I was just bored,” Yan He repeated, trying to find a topic to cover it up. “I saw your Moments; you made a lot of cakes.”
Lu Youqing thought for a moment: “Then I’ll make a cake for A-He tomorrow.”
Yan He looked up: “For me?”
Lu Youqing put down the apple and reached out to wipe the juice from the corner of her mouth: “A-He forgot because of the amnesia, but you actually love sweets. You get low blood sugar occasionally, so I often make cakes and candies to keep on hand.”
“Let’s get discharged after the check-up tomorrow, okay? The cake will be a celebration for leaving the hospital.”
A discharge celebration!
Yan He looked forward to it but was worried about Lu Youqing’s schedule. She politely declined: “Maybe not. You have to work tomorrow and you’ll be tired. Don’t go to the trouble.”
“It’s no trouble at all.” Lu Youqing wiped her hands. “The promotion ends at noon tomorrow. I’ll go straight home to make the cake and tidy up the house, then come to the hospital for our check-up. We’ll eat the cake after the check-up and go home, okay?”
She had already arranged the order of everything, her tone more joyful than ever before.
Yan He nodded: “Okay.”
She looked at the sky outside and realized Lu Youqing was still chatting with her despite being tired and having work tomorrow, so she urged her to go rest.
Lu Youqing lay on the bed reluctantly, propping her head on her arm to watch Yan He with a soft gaze.
Yan He turned off the lights, leaving only the dim yellow lamp.
“A-He, goodnight,” Lu Youqing’s gentle voice drifted through the air.
Yan He couldn’t help but smile.
“Goodnight.”
